History

In the Oughray Boreal Rockland, there were a group of zu’aan settlers called the Washati who had the goal of making a new civilisation in the rocky region as there were many opportunities such as by constructing mines and quarries to extract useful resources such as different kinds of stone and a myriad of different valuable metals like gold, silver, and iron. The mastermind behind this idea was called Aldric Lang, who saw this prospect whilst travelling through the region with his merchant company on a journey to meet the Umjtia people, who were said to have valuable woods and talented workers as well as plenty of trading opportunities. After completing his successful business in the Wlaic Old Taiga – the home of the Umjtia – he decided to return to his place of origin and spread his idea, gathering a group of people who shared the same mindset as him to journey to the region and attempt to make it a hub of hustle and bustle with a new civilisation. The Oughray Boreal Rockland was a large hilly expanse that had many small mountains and a few forests of trees that could also be found in the Taiga, but the appearance of these forests was uncommon and were in small unsubstantial patches across the large area.

As the Washati people started off with a small population, they went to work cutting down trees and constructing their new homes and then going to work making roads that allowed them to easily transport people and goods to the region. However, as the population and popularity of the region started to grow with many miners beginning to work there, an issue arose; this problem was that there were not enough trees to provide for the demand of wood in the Oughray Boreal Rockland. Even after receiving a share of the Wlaic Old Taiga as a gift from the Umjtia, the region still suffered from the wood crisis, with one politician coming up with a solution; this was to secretly enter the buffer zones of the Wlaic Old Taiga and get some more wood, which was perceived to be able to reduce the majority of the pressure for the valuable resource. As justification, the politician – whose name was Rolf Baier – said that the Umjtia people (now known as the Umjtia kin’toni clan after the outbreak) were being stingy about their wood and only not allowing everyone to have a higher share as a way of trying to assert dominance and control, and hence many were convinced with this plan being reasonable.

This resulted in many conflicts with the northern region of the Wlaic Old Taiga, and the partition that took place resulting in this area becoming the Vesia Dense Forest with its own clan called the Utaie kin’toni clan meant that the Utaie people were more determined to apply as much pressure as possible on the Washati, as well as get revenge for the Washati clans actions of trying to force themselves and infiltrate the territory of the Utaie people. These wars continued on for many years, with times where peace seemed reachable followed by extreme animosity between each region and anger towards each other as well as determination to become victorious. On most occasions, the Washati clan would be defeated and face the consequences of losing their land on the east border, where the Vesia Dense Forest could be found.

Psychology

The Washati people have always been very hardworking individuals and rarely ever lazy as they all had a goal in mind and a purpose that was to construct a new civilisation in the Oughray Boreal Rockland. Whilst the large expanse of small mountains and hills decorated with small taiga forests started to become busier, its original emptiness had a soothing effect and was very courteous and kind to the Washati people by allowing them to have a peace of mind by letting them experience the sounds of nature rather than the clamour of the hustle and bustle of busy nations and businesses, and by also providing for them with resources that were necessary for their aims. Even though the quietness could have an eerie feeling rather than a tranquil one, it was ultimately a blessing in disguise and heavily taken for granted, especially since the region was going to experience a much louder, busier future.

The first way that the region got busier was with the influx of determined miners who desired to reside in the region and work in the many quarries and mines that could be found, seeing better opportunities as the region was slowly progressing, with even better and excelled growth being promised. Furthermore, there were many more migrants who would have not just filled the mining sector but also other areas of the economy such as construction and even trading – merchants would often visit the location feeling hopeful that they could find great business opportunities. Even though there was more hustle and bustle, the majority of the region was still very cheerful and even welcoming by providing hospitality as well accommodation, food, and drink in an attempt to make travellers want to return to the location and maybe even permanently reside there.

However, as time progressed, tensions soon formed due to the wood crisis, with many becoming more fearful and anxious due to the fact that they might not be able to have access to such a valuable resource since there were no longer enough trees to support the demand and the exponentially growing population. When Rolf Baier stated his idea, many were sceptical and worried that it would be too risky, whilst the desperation of others got the better of them and caused them to follow along with his plan and in fact become determined to teach the Umjtia people a lesson for their supposed greed. Soon there were conflicts that broke out with troops being sent into the Wlaic Old Taiga alongside lumberjacks to try and stealthily collect more wood; these attempts were a complete failure and even resulted in politicians being forced to pay off the ransom to save their people. In a fit of rage, the politicians started to become more extreme, and the residents followed in suite and became more angered as well as determined to save the Washati people by getting more wood by whatever method it took. Therefore, there was a sense of resolute and ferocious fury to push on into the new Vesia Dense Forest and attack the newly established Utaie kin’toni clan, pillaging their homes and conquering their territory.ould only be through better tactics and techniques that the Washati kin’toni clan would be successful in achieving their goals.

Culture

The culture within the Oughray Boreal Rockland was one that originated from many foreign nations, as the Washati people were actually migrants from another nation led by Aldric Lang to their new home. Singing and dancing were very common as there was a need for the new inhabitants to pass the time since there was not the hustle and bustle of business they were used to, and hence music would be a way to enjoy the company of others that the settlers would be forced to get along with in order to achieve their goals. Even then, there was a sense of comradeship and feelings of caring displayed towards each other by the settlers, who felt united by their aim and were very open and welcoming to those that wanted to join the cause. As a result of this, the population increased with not just more miners and builders but even actors and authors as well as musicians who saw the place as a great source of inspiration and an excellent place to put on performances or share literature; there was also an increase in merchants who saw opportunities in the region as a result of people from many nations across the lands visiting the nation. Storytelling was also very common with one of the most famous stories being the one about the stone giants, and in fact, many successful authors came out of the region after it became more established. Overall, the Oughray Boreal Rockland was very rich in the arts as it had been a way to cope with the tedious nature of the region before the population of it increased as it became more well known.

However, this was all yet to change when the wars broke out as the Washati kin’toni clan got into conflicts with the Utaie kin’toni clan in an attempt to gain more wood to solve the lack of wood in the region that had put the nation into a crisis for a resource that was usually abundant. The effects of this crisis on the culture can also be observed, with the fact that many wooden houses were torn down to salvage their wood and instead replaced with housing that was made using stone bricks and other resources; the housing before used to be made out of wood and due to the creativity of the settlers they managed to construct stunning homes engraved with stunning designs, but all this could no longer be done with wood but instead by chiselling stone, which not many of the settlers were as skilled in. Furthermore, people became even more conservative about their wood supplies and would not be willing to share them with other families. As the wars ravaged on, the culture that was once in the region was starting to fade away and instead be replaced by symbols of war, with many aspects of the arts reflecting around the skirmishes and portraying the Utaie clan in a negative light rather than having other more positive themes such as romance or history.

Government

The beginnings of governance in the Oughray Boreal Rockland were one that began with the businessman Aldric Lang, who brought small groups of people into the region with a vision in mind – he inspired them with the concept of the region becoming a brand-new civilisation. His appeal was mostly towards those in the excavation industry as their work was often very laborious and depended on finding suitable locations to find work – these would be places that had mines rich in many useful, vital metals. Furthermore, miners would have to face the reality that once all the resources had been extracted from a mine, they may end up jobless and hence have to migrate to somewhere else to find work. Seeing this issue, Aldric Lang found a solution, but what was it? His idea came to him on a business trip as he saw the small mountains and hilly terrain of the expansive Oughray Boreal Rockland, and with some support from mostly sceptical leaders of neighbouring nations he managed to get enough people to migrate to the region to work on constructing the foundations of a new civilisation; the only nation that was not so cynical was the Umjtia people, who knew the feeling of being doubted and knew of the need to prove yourself when doubted by many others.

As time progressed, Aldric Lang was able to make the people of the region happy and even please the neighbouring nations and keep peaceful relations, allowing many to gain respect for the Washati people. However, this was all to change when the wood crisis took place and the ruler at the time Rolf Baier chose to enter the buffer zones of the Wlaic Old Taiga, publishing propaganda to the Washati people that was supposed to portray the Umjtia as being greedy by keeping so much of the expansive Wlaic Old Taiga for themselves and giving such small shares, and ultimately caused a divide with some fearing that Rolf Baier was going a step too far whilst others believed that whatever it took for the nation to survive was necessary – even members of his own council were in disagreement with him. As the nation descended into chaos and met with its new enemy – the Utaie kin’toni clan – many were soon forced to fight for the Washati kin’toni clan, making attempts to invade the Vesia Dense Forest. These battles would continue on, and as new leaders were elected many believed that that leader would be willing to bring an end to the conflict and bring back peace between the nations, but there was no end in sight with many of the newly elected leaders being even more bent and resolute about the idea of claiming parts of the Vesia Dense Forest as their own territory. Furthermore, politicians had already managed to poison the minds of the public and portray the Utaie people as being selfish and evil, adding fuel to the fire and prolonging the wars that seemed to in reality be in favour of the Utaie kin’toni clan.

Military

When Aldric Lang brought the first settlers into the region, he also made sure to have a few soldiers in the event that he was attacked or ambushed during this migration, and in fact he was clever in doing so since many thieves and bandits patrolled the area, hunting for targets – especially rich businessmen who would have lots of money and goods with them on their travels. As the foundation of the new civilisation in the Oughray Boreal Rockland was put in place, Aldric Lang made sure to increase the military strength and force as a precaution against not just thieves and bandits that could be a nuisance but also the possibility of jealousy getting the better of neighbouring nations and growing into animosity, provoking possible attacks that would try to bring him and his people down. However, this proved to not be a big priority as many were elated with the region as it provided more jobs prospects for miners as well as better trading opportunities for merchants, and hence did not want to cause any harm to this system out of greed or envy. The years continued on like this with the leaders making sure that the Washati people had armed forces prepared in the case that an event took place where they were needed, but otherwise made sure that members of the military were not idle whilst not fighting on battlefields and made them do labour around the region that would be beneficial to the people.

The military grew in importance however when Rolf Baier sent armed forces into the buffer zones of the northern region of the Wlaic Old Taiga alongside some lumberjacks to try and gain more resources to reduce the impacts of the wood crisis, only to be left surprised when those that were sent in were ransomed for a hefty price. Enraged by this, Rolf Baier began leading a war against what had now become the Utaie kin’toni clan in an attempt to solve the wood crisis whilst also getting revenge for all the failures that the Washati clan had faced in the Vesia Dense Forest. These troops would often have very intense gear such as whole suits of iron armour due to the fact that the Oughray Boreal Rockland had many mines containing an abundance of important, useful metals, and the soldiers also had a range of weapons to choose from, ranging from sharp knives, pointy daggers and deadly short swords to long blades, piercing spears, powerful axes and mighty hammers. However, something they were lacking was tactics as the soldiers were not adapted to the environment of the Vesia Dense Forest and instead tried using brute force and sheer strength against their enemies only to be met with the surprisingly strong forces of the Utaie clan who were well adapted to the terrain and knew well how to manipulate the environment to their advantage, causing the Washati to be unsuccessful in their attempted penetrations of their enemy’s region and ultimately facing many humiliating defeats.

Religion

Folklore within the Oughray Boreal Rockland involved the belief that the origins of the region were as a result of gigantic stone giants being created by gods to fight each other for the sake of the gods’ entertainment, and that the hills were in fact the remains of these giants and piles of their dead bodies on top of each other forming the tall hills. After the deities had gotten bored of this toy they had created for themselves, it was like they had simply just dumped their plaything on the land of Taerel, almost like a symbol of their existence and a sign of their immense power and ability to create beings that were so strong and huge. To this day, many still believed these were the true origins of the region, whilst many believed that it was all simply myths and stories made for the pleasure of people. The origins of these tales were likely from the time when Aldric Lang and his people first entered the region in hopes of constructing their new civilisation, with the belief that many were bored due to the emptiness of the expanse and hence they chose to make fiction to tell themselves as a pastime and to have fun in what may have instead been a desolate, tedious land.

Whilst the first settlers did make stories, they still had their own set of beliefs in a few of the deities from their homeland but called upon a few of them for their goals. One of these was Qethar the God of Travellers, and they called upon Him because they felt that He would give them protection and safe transport to the region; the following of Qethar grew with the influx of travellers into the region as they saw Him to be their guardian and protector on their journeys. Another deity that was called upon was Qhuses the God of Life and also Zodea the God of Preservation, as the settlers saw them as deities who would provide sustenance and make sure that all life in the region would thrive. In relation to sustenance, the kin’toni also called upon the God of Agriculture Esbris and the God of Rain Rolis as they saw them as gods who would provide the Oughray Boreal Rockland with the necessities of the growth of crops by providing them with the water and requirements they needed.

During the wars against the Utaie clan, the Washati kin’toni called upon their War God Vuxeyr and Pheslir the God of Revenge. They would build many small shrines in their military bases where the troop would go to make offerings, requesting for strength and the power of the deities in their efforts against their enemies. There were also many idols often portraying the war gods and goddesses as wearing heavy suits of armour and having a weapon such as a large sword or a hammer -Vuxeyr the God of War was portrayed as holding a heavy, sharp sword and holding it high to demonstrate his immense power, whilst Pheslir the God of Revenge would have a dagger that was said to represent the blade that cuts the flesh and leaves the enemies in agony, giving them what they deserve for opposing the Washati clan.
