History

The history of the Idril clan is dramatic, emotional and inspiring. As the clan is one which has been forged together in the most difficult of times, and has spent nearly the hole of their initial years tackling one problem after another. The Idril clan is a product of the mixed bloodlines of the Ashat and Itkali navy clans that ran their ships aground here in their escape from the Ashat nation vessels that had been chasing after the deserters. The Idril clan was created as a compromise between the two different nationalities of kin'toni that began to call the Nyses Coral Reef as their new home.

Given the enmity between the two nations, some of the distrust continued to infect the deserters that had escaped the naval battle for the Bliss beaches. In their enmity, the kin'toni became unable to decide upon a leader that could claim loyalty to both factions of the kin'toni, at the time the captains of the two ships proposed an arrangement that although un conventional settled the dispute. The captains used the captive zu'aan they had procured during their journey to coral reef islands, and mixed their own bloods to convert the zu'aan that had been brought.

Over the coming years, these kin'toni that had been converted with the blood of both the Ashat and Itkal kin'toni became their own distinct clan, and named themselves the Idril clan. The Idril clan founded the nation of Tharis, the kin'toni with the mixed blood were able to claim the loyalty of not only the Ashat kin'toni but also the Itkal kin'toni. They do not truly bear resemblance to either of the kin'toni found in the nation but have instead become something new altogether.

Additionally, the Idril are well aware of their heritage from both nations, and as such the structures of the coral reef nation can be seen to reflect the architecture of both the Ashat nation as well as the Itkal nation. The Idril clan members had spent their first several years under the tutelage of both the Kin'toni captains of the Ashat ship as well as the captain of the Itkali vessel, only one they had garnered a deep and instinctive knowledge of the customs and traditions of both nations were the Idril allowed the title of the leaders of the clan.

Since that time, the Idril have led the Tharis nation towards great renown and acclaim, in the present times they are allied with both Zelan and Nara of the Canlai landmass. This alliance has meant that the kin'toni have been able to secure a satellite region under their direct control outside of the tropical coral reef islands where they first came into existence. They have only been able to progress and remain relevant in the world due to their indomitable spirit and the constant innovation that they have had to rely on in order to survive the difficult life of island living.

The kin'toni are famed for their resourcefulness and sharpness of the mind which sets them apart from other kin'toni clans.

Psychology

As mentioned above, the Idril are a unique kind of clan not only in their origin but also in their creation. The kin'toni were nurtured to rule over fractious people, and are expert negotiators that can put to shame even the merchants of Zelan and Turenth, their prowess is particularly established in the field of conflict resolution. In evidence of their talent for the skill is the whole nation of Tharis, which alternates between calling itself a kingdom and nation, which was at one time filled to the brim with kin'toni that wanted nothing to do with each other and in some extreme cases wanted to kill one another.

The founding of the Idril clan as being one that was equally of Ashat origin as Itkali was truly a saving grace and the navy captains must be accorded the due credit for coming up with a solution without which there would be no Tharis kingdom. It may be unclear to some about the history of the kingdom, and the enmity between the factions that exist within the population. In order to better appreciate the scale of victory of the Idril clan, one must begin by learning that the kin'toni of the two navy ships that ended up here on the islands had never intended to come here together.

In fact, when they were in talks for the possibility of deserting the nearly endless war for the bliss beaches, the captains had agreed to head to completely different landmasses where they would begin new lives. However, fate perhaps had a different plan, their betrayal and escape was discovered a lot quicker than they had counted on, and very soon the ships were being chased by the might of the Ashat nation. In order to survive, the ships ended up going to a singular place, and once they had run their ships onto the islands for the fight of their lives only to realise there was no imminent threat,

T here was nearly a mutiny that would have ended the history of the nation on the same day as landing. Instead the kin'toni of the different factions picked different sides of the island to live until the Idril clan was raised. The Idril lived with both factions and learned their way of life, and over a course of a long decade, they forged together the people of the nation into one, and most of all earned their loyalty and trust. This duration of dealing and negotiating with the two sides allowed them to really develop an empathetic mindset, wherein lies their prowess of trade.

The kin'toni are very easily able to put themselves into the shoes of those that they are dealing with and are therefore able to come up with deals that not only meet their goals but also leave the traders satisfied. Besides their empathy, the kin'toni are obviously ferocious fighters as they have spent several centuries raiding ships and coastal villages for the riches that have kept the nation afloat during lean times.

Biology

The Idril have evolved in a very unique way, upon glancing at their visage and body it would be impossible to ascribe them as belonging to either nation of Ashat or the kingdom of Itkal. The features that they have are very distinct and in fact more likely adapted to the conditions of the coral reef than their bloodlines, which both originate away from the tropical waters in which they now exist. The Idril are also unique in that there doesn’t seem to be a great degree of homogeneity in the whole clan as there is among the members of other clans.

And experts have concluded that this is likely due to the duality of the bloods that were used to create these kin'toni. Since the degree of the blood mixture as not something that was measured at conversion, the Idril clans have a lot of different kinds of kin'toni that look nothing alike, differing in not only shades of skin colour but also to degree which they can adapt to the sea water that surrounds their home.

There are of course large patterns in the whole, and many kin'toni have a lot of common features but almost all Idril kin'toni can boast of an individual character which isn’t really very common in th kin'toni bloodlines. One particular phenomena associated with this anomaly of their biology is the line of kin'toni that have completely adapted to living in the water. Surprisingly, despite serious attempts by all other kin'toni, there have been almost no water kin'toni adapted outside of the Idril clan.

The original kin'toni of the navy ships from Ashat and Itkal have failed to grow the essential body functions that allow the Idril kin'toni to not only work in the water but positively live in it. The degree to which the Idril kin'toni can differ from kin'toni to kin'toni, and is very much like a lottery. There are kin'toni that are able to grow the essential sound organs in the chest that allows the communication with the Garel-are herd, but cannot grow the gills that help them stay permanently under the water.

There are those that develop the watertight which allows to look into the depths of the ocean with little trouble while they are unable to change and grow webbed fingers and feet. This unpredictability of their own blood has also meant that the Idril kin'toni have learned to make the best of any situation that is handed to them, they quickly learn to use their ability to the advantage of the nation. The Idril water kin'toni are the sword of the Tharis nation, it is with their hard work and help that the Tharis nation has become a power to be reckoned with.

Their hold of the oceans is a vice like grip that has prevented several other kin'toni nations from building a position of power in the tropical oceans of the world, and a nightmare for the zu'aan cities that have been trying to restore their ancient supply lines. They have purple irises with white sclera and vertical slit pupils.

Culture

Truly one of the most martial societies to have ever exited in the world, the Tharis nation as founded by the Idril, is a nation that is recognised as a warrior nation by the most honourable of warrior clans like the Daera Kin'toni Clan of the Mal Jade Cliffs and Fa'Aka Kin'toni Clan of the Puvesir Autumn hills. In fact the Tharis nation has been one of the most important clients of the Aere Clan from the Yaneit clearwater meadow. In Tharis, there are only two kinds of citizens, those that herd and train the garel-are, and spend most of their time in the water.

And the warriors that ride the hollow arrow shaped ships that unleash carnage when their iron tipped hulls into the ship that is being attacked. Those that live within the water, perfect only their presence in the water, and are in fact encouraged to escape from battle. Their rarity in the clan of Idril means that they aren’t allowed to risk themselves in battle, a death of one of the water kin'toni would be severe blow to the whole nation. In fact the existence of the water kin'toni is not a commonly known secret.

Most kin'toni nations assume that the kin'toni are controlling the garel-are from outside of the water. The kin'toni of the warrior clans all probably suspect the truth of the matter, and the Fa’aka are certainly aware for they have sent a diplomatic mission to the coral reef islands, and Adon has become the only nation on the Erea landmass to have a friendly relationship with the Tharis nation. The warrior society of course prizes combat ability, and all kin'toni, besides the kin'toni are required to not only understand the intricacies of the art of war but be experienced in the reaping of its crop.

Most kin'toni of the nation are compelled to attend at least two raiding compaines every week, the law was introduced only for the sake of allowing everyone an equal opportunity. Otherwise, all the kin'toni would crowd out those that did not have connections with the raiding party leaders, and the law allowed these kin'toni to compel the leaders to secure for themselves a berth on the raiding vessel. The building of the ships is a group activity that the kin'toni undertake altogether, there is little shortage of wood now.

But in the past all the kin'toni had was the debris of the ships that they had run aground on the beaches in their escape. At the time all the kin'toni of the navies had got together to try and build small boats that would allow them to escape the island or find food, of course none managed to travel too far and those that risked a longer journey found themselves on the receiving end of the fire kiss of the sun as they failed to find shelter from the sun. Nowadays, there are several ships that are brought back from the raiding which are recycled by the Tharis kin'toni into their deadly ramming arrow ships.

Government

The Tharis government is run by the Idril clan, they are the only members of the nation that are trusted by both factions that continue to remain divided on several important political questions even though centuries have passed since the kin'toni became a nation. In terms of carrying the burden of the war and its leadership, the Idril do not take command in the field of battle, although they are probably as skilled as the kin'toni that came from the navies of Ashat and Itkal, still by consensus, it is always one of the sailors that is handed the charge of the military battles.

The election of the martial leader is one that is taken exclusively by the Idril clan, and only takes place on a year to year basis in reference to the goals that Idril clan have set out for their government. It can also occur from operation to operation, and in this instance invites are sent to popular martial leaders whose skills are known to be the best in the realm within which the operation is going to occur. They are asked to prepare their own versions of the plan that they would take in order to ensure the objectives are met.

All the invited commanders are allowed to sit in the presentation of their peers and encouraged to offer feedback. On the basis of the discussion that takes place and the original plan that was submitted the Idril choose the commander only among themselves. The Fa’aka were particularly impressed with this process and have been said to be adapting it into their new kingdom of Adon, and have concluded that the success of the Idril can surely be traced to the efficacy of the decision making process adopted in the selecting of their generals and commanders.

The Idril although are the only ones expected to fulfil the work of the government still require significant assistance from the other clans that exist in the Tharis nation. They assign small projects to individual kin'toni through the process of lots and in this way are able to avoid the argument of Itkali or Ashatan kin'toni. The process of drawing lots has been a riotous success and the Idril have begun to hand out larger projects through the system thereby freeing them the responsibility of completing menial and tedious tasks and focus more on the bigger picture and improve governance.

This increased reliance on handing out projects has led to another issue that has been resolved through the application of the recent law. The kin'toni that were assigned work, are not actually compensated for the work but do it as a form of tax, the increased work load meant that they were unable to maintain their relationships and found it difficult to secure berths on raiding vessels. The Idril resolved this by compelling all kin'toni to make sure that they attend at least two raids every week, this decision has had the desired effect but also created little unrest in the community of the ship leaders.

Military

The Kin'toni army of the Tharis nations is organised into four fleets, three of these fleets are always placed on raiding duty while the last fleet is on active guard duty and patrolling the neighbouring waters for possible invasion forces of the zu'aan or other kin'toni. This fleet was not always placed in defence but rather at one time all the ships that the kin'toni had access to were used as raiding vessels that were spread out throughout the tropical ocean.

The regular attacks on the zu'aan convoys had made the Tharis kin'toni a target fro retaliation, and the zu'aan were able to track down the coral reef islands that form the home of the kin'toni folk of the pirate nation. The zu'aan prepared to launch a huge scale of attack on the Coral reef islands during the daytime when the kin'toni would be unable to fight back, and truly the victory would have been decisive had the attack successfully found the Tharis nation home.

Instead of defeat the pirate kin'toni of the Tharis nation woke up to find a destroyed fleet that had been smashed against the invisible coral reefs that the water kin'toni had so carefully constructed in order to repel the attacks of the kin'toni nations. These reefs had served as the last bastion of defence for the nation, which would have certainly been destroyed if the zu'aan had managed to safely land their troops on the Island. Instead of weaker, the pirate kin'toni were able to come of the situation not weakened but rather strengthened.

As they repurposed the wood and iron of the zu'aan ships to build the ships of the arrow fleets. Furthermore, the hundreds of zu'aan soldiers and sailors that had manned those ships were used by the kin'toni to further swell the number of the Idril clan, which after the failed invasion became not only the largest clan of kin'toni for the Tharis nation but also the ruling clan. After the attempted invasion, the kin'toni of the Tharis nation decided that the threat from the outside was very real and they had most likely survived the invasion by the skin of their teeth.

And this further escalated the need to have a united front against those that were seeking to destroy their way of life or change the culture of the pirate kin'toni nation. A major change that was made in the aftermath of the zu'aan invasion was that one of the fleets of arrow ship was pulled away from active combat duty and assigned the work of only patrolling the surrounding oceans and to constantly ensure that no unknown vessels approached the coral reef islands of the Tharis nation. This is obviously a tedious task that is unpopular among the warriors.

However, given the importance of the task, the fleets take turns on being the guarding fleet. Sometimes fleets even trade the privilege of raiding instead of being on guard duty by exchanging favours and more popularly using gold to buy the ability to go on raid.

Religion

The Tharis people are mostly followers of the two most popular religions of the nations of Ashat and Itkal, while the Itkali believe in the existence of the Shepherd and therefore follow the way of the Shepherd. Theirs cannot be truly be said to be a splinter group of the religion, since they have developed very little of what they had been taught by the Yuaa kin'toni. They follow the harshest practices of the shepherd, and often fast to point of emaciation in order to confess and purge their sins.

The kin'toni of the Tharis nation that follow the Shepherd are said to be far more zealous and strict in their devotion in comparison to their counterparts from other parts of the world besides Itkal itself. In fact one of the first structures to be built by the kin'toni since they began to occupy the region, was that of a church to the Shepherd. The building continues to stand resolutely and solidly even today, although the traditional offerings are not possible in this land that is several thousand miles away.

Instead the primary offering that is being offered to the Shepherd here is the blood of the ayrela. The Tharis kin'toni were initially were very reluctant to practice their religion completely freely, especially the Itkali kin'toni that were raised under the strict supervision of the Yuaa priests. In this matter the kin'toni of Tharis were privileged in that they were able to secure the services of the Adon Kingdom’s assassin and spy clan. The Idril, in an attempt to create a harmonious environment for the kin'toni of Itkal ordered the kidnapping of a group of the Yuaa.

And the Adon Kingdom had delivered 3 Yuaa kin'toni to the coral reef island. These priests have been threatened and cajoled, as such they now willingly serve the flock of kin'toni here in the Tharis nation but still claim to be loyal to the Itkali throne. The kin'toni of the Ashat nation pray to the monotheistic God, the Eyeless god, and in tune with the faith of their blind god, the Ashat kin'toni pray to the reflection of the sun that is carefully controlled and presented to the kin'toni at the temple of the Eyeless God for the dawn and dusk prayers.

The Ashat kin'toni don’t believe in the presence of any priests and maintain a relationship with their god through the head of their household, who is said to confer with the Eyeless God for the sake of the kin'toni under his care. The Temple built to the Eyeless god built here in the Coral reef Islands is truly a work of art, built of quarried stone that has been transported to the distant islands by the coin of the devotees. The stones are carved with the depictions of the Eyeless god and his prophet . And quotations from their holy scriptures, which are a set of 12 books that have been written by various devotaries of the Ashat nation, including some of the founders of the Ashat pioneer clans’ council.

Miscellany

The Tharis nations ships are truly modern wonders that have put the pirate nation on the map, paired with the capacity for wild innovation of the Idril clan has certainly meant that the kin'toni of this pirate nation can truly envision a bright future. This was not always the case, for the longest time the kin'toni of this nation were ragged and desperate, quite convinced that they would soon perish in their attempt to survive wars that had never had anything to do with them.

The pessimism permeated through the whole population of the islands, in all kin'toni except the captains that had initially made the decision of leading their sailors away from mindless bloodshed to a more secure life. They of course had their moments of doubt, and publicly apologised for dooming their loved crew mates, but at the end of most meetings of the kin'toni, they always concluded that although the life in the reefs was a difficult one, it was still one in which they had some degree of control over the future.

This daily declaration has become imprinted in the minds of most kin'toni of the Tharis nation, and this is evident from the fact that to most pirate kin'toni the concept of independence and freedom is far more relatable than the common citizen of any other kin'toni nations. Although the kin'toni here still lay their loyalty according to the culture from whence they came, they do not really regret living in Tharis and neither to bear any fealty to the government of the lands according to which they draw their factional lines.

The Idril must be credited in equal regard as the captains of the Navy ships that brought the kin'toni here, for they too have contribute in creating a great environment that has made the citizens of their nation feel genuine patriotism towards their nation. In tune with the concept of independence and freedom, the Idril have created few laws and no enforcing bodies. The kin'toni of the nation maintain law and order on their own without having to rely on a policing force that has been commonly used by other kin'toni nations.

This can be due to the nature of law in the islands, as well as the nature of its creation. One cannot be faulted for thinking that although the rule of the islands lies in the hands of one particular clan, Tharis still has democratic features. The most prominent feature of their democratic process is the one that deals with legislation, the law making process involves very wide consultation procedures, during these public meetings Idril clan members spend lengthy periods explaining not only the nature of the law but the situation that led to its creation.

The debates that occur in these public meetings can even put to shame the debates of the representatives of the prestigious and grand representatives of Nara from Canlai. The average Tharis citizen is not only very well informed about the rights that can be claimed but also very articulate in representing the guiding ideology of the nation.
