Ibanhon Kin'toni Clan
History
In the year 4E 78, a kin'toni named Nalshy Vorrd was exiled from the Aw'drai Kin'toni Clan. She felt obliged to believe when she was exiled from her previous clan that the Aw'drai clan hated her and that she was useless to them, and that only fueled her desire to turn more and more zu'aan; going as far as to go on a week-long fast in her desire to build an army. After her fast, however, she managed to sink her teeth into the leg of a large animal referred to as a gu'rzy, at which point she almost immediately quenched her thirst and slowly let go of the large crime that she was wrongfully convicted of.
Subsequently, she decided to start looking for zu'aan to turn. She would continue to quench her thirst by drinking the blood of the gu'rzy once every three or four days while she continued to turn zu'aan and build her army. Approximately ten year after deciding to found her so-called Ibanhon clan, she had managed to turn over two hundred and fifty zu'aan into kin'toni, raising them as her own in the process and ordering them to turn more zu'aan into kin'toni. Over the next one hundred years, a population boom would take place, and by the year 4E 97 more than five thousand zu'aan had been turned into Ibanhon kin'toni.
After the population boom of the Ibanhonians came to an end, Nalshy decided that the Jetai rainforest region was not the ideal place to reside. So her army eventually made the decision to move to the Myrithal Swamp, which was considered at the time to be uncharted kin'toni'ati territory, especially for them and Nalshy Vorrd and her army of kin'toni would soon come to a consensus to name the swamp Gatlaulta. During the Shattering between 4E 100 and approximately 4E 150, several different clans tried to take over the Myrithal Swamp with the intentions of renaming and reconstructing it to their respective liking.
According to kin'toni'ati legend, these invading clans were supposedly allies of the Aw'drai clan who were sent to the Myrithal Swamp to exterminate the Ibanhon clan. kin'toni suggest that the clans that invaded the Mindcloud Swamp had a grudge against the Ibanhon clan because of a failed peace agreement that was to be made but never transpired because of a series of disagreements between Nalshy Vorrd and one of the Aw'drai government leaders as they pertained to the fate of the Myrithal Swamp and its deforestation. At the height of the Shattering in the year, 4E 109 Nalshy Vorrd decided to hold a peace conference.
Between her clan and the Aw'drai clan to try and bury the hatchet and end her grudge against them once and for all, claiming that her forgiveness for a long-forgotten and wrongful conviction would put her in good standing with her former clan again. It is suggested by the Aw'drai clan records that the Aw'drai clan's leaders travelled to the Myrithal Swamp to meet with Nalshy Vorrd and her cabinet to discuss peace talks as it pertained to a future alignment between the two clans; however, one of the Aw'drai clan's allies turned on the Aw'drai clan and invaded the Myrithal Swamp to exterminate them.
At which point the Aw'drai and Ibanhon clans joined forces to defend the place. After the battle was over, many casualties resulted, but the Aw'drai and Ibanhon clans emerged victorious over the now-extinct Vyzragon clan and agreed to ally with one another. The Ibanhon clan has since made alliances with other endangered clans in addition to their alliance with the Aw'drai clan, but after Nalshy's death during the all-out battle between the Aw'drai and Ibanhon clans and the Vzyragon clan the leadership of the Ibanhon clan and its government changed hands many times.
However, a plague is currently spreading between the Ibanhon clan and several other clans as a result of an air born virus. But with a new Ice Age on the horizon, they may be on the cusp of another war as many clans are currently planning to come to their region and other regions like it.
Psychology
Ibanhon kin'toni is a shy and secretive kin'toni clan who has grown to live within a swamp. Masterful hunters, are patient and fierce, using hit and run tactics and natural traps. They come off as unfriendly to others due to their disinterest in the occurrences of others around them. Ibanhon kin'toni is unique in their attempts to capture and obtain their prey, but because they are not as bright as they think of themselves to be they tend to overfocus on a certain aspect of the hunt, going as far as to wait a little too long for their prey.
Some have been known to die without realizing that they have to find a way to avoid the sun when it rises. There is a science in the way that the typical Ibanhon kin'toni thinks, and it's not all that simple. On some nights, when it is warm out, the typical Ibanhon kin'toni will generally think about resting in their caverns rather than hunting, especially during the summer seasons; however, when it is colder during some nights, they immediately decide without any thought to hunt for food. Ibanhon kin'toni also follows a tradition to consume blood and eat once every three to five days.
As the clan founder Nalshy Vorrd did many thousands of years ago. That being said, Ibanhon kin'toni is heavy fasters, but they fast to pay homage to their clan founder. Ibanhon kin'toni has a distinct and otherwise enhanced sense of sight somewhat when it comes to hunting. Generally, when they hunt they wait very patiently and don't do anything until they see their prey; then, they look at their prey closely to determine when the best time to pursue them will be. This, according to kin'toni, is called the Ak'lauina effect. The Ak'lauina Effect, in most particular cases, occurs when it is cold during the night.
And an Ibanhon kin'toni feels the need to look for something to eat; it usually occurs once every couple of nights and can continue until just before dawn, at which point the Ibanhon kin'toni will usually have enough time to return to his or her underground or cavern shelter to rest for the day. In other words, the Ibanhon kin'toni will generally hunt once every three nights if the temperature is just right for the taking, but they are usually within close range of their shelter during the hunt. Even so, many of the kin'toni in this clan believe that it is important to hunt for food and drink the blood of the gu'rzy.
They also consider the gu'rzy to be their spirit animal because it represents their way of thinking and their overall modes of functioning. Generally speaking, the Ibanhon kin'toni is essentially one of the most persistent clans. Given that, it is only fair to point out that another downside of an Ibanhon kin'toni is its constant trembling when nervous, especially when it comes to certain things. That is about invasions or attempted hostile takeovers. kin'toni in this clan have been known to tremble when nervous because they always fear that other clans will attempt.
To invade their land, especially the Minemi clan. In other words, most of the kin'toni in this clan are generally paranoid and may develop signs of Schizophrenia or Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
Biology
The Ibanhon are adapted to the humid, dense, muddy Myrithal Swamp. They are of medium-height, and their torsos are powerful and elongated with short, thick limbs. This allows them to be good at maneuvering through deep mud and shallow water and maximizing their core strength. The downside of this being having poor leverage and speed on dry land and open ground. The skin is mottled dark greens and browns in color, as to blend in. The skin is extra porous, to allow them to absorb the maximum oxygen directly from the water, but the downside of this is being susceptible to skin-absorbed toxins.
They are hairless on their bodies, but have very thick head hair coated in an protective, algae-repellent slime that is greenish brown in color, to aid being unseen under the water. The slime smells strongly of an fishy smell, allowing those with a keen sense of smell to avoid them. The eyes are bright green in color, and have an thick, clear outer membrane that is an built-in set of goggles. This allows for perfect underwater sight, but the downside of this is having distorted sight above the water. Ears are short, pointed and flat to the head. These ears have an fine membrate to channel and amplify the sounds in the humid thick air.
The nose is flat to the face, with an e system of cartilaginous valves to seal the ears while under water. These can stop the ingestion of murky water. The sense of smell can filter out the intense odor of decaying organic matter in the swamp. This allows them to focus on the smell of blood. Teeth are blunt, shovel like and adapted for scraping parasites and thick mud off of aquatic prey before they feed on them. The teeth are bad for making clean, quick punctures in tough hide or armor. The fingers and toes are wind, flat and webbed for moving though water.
The limbs are adapted for explosive, short-distance propulsion to allow for a burst of speed when they launch from the water to attack prey on land. The muscles, being mostly fast-twitch, struggle at long term endurance. Feet have sensory organs that allow them to detect small pressure changes and micro-vibrations traveling through water or thick mud. This allows them to detect submerged prey and danger incoming though the water. Bones are light and with more internal cavities as to be more buoyant in water.
With the reduced bone density they are more susceptible to crushing damage and compound fractures such as from heavy falls or impacts. The chest and upper back has large low-density, concentrated fats, to aid in buoyancy. These fat sacks need a large amount of blood to maintain. There are s additional lymphatic glands and hepatic 'cell clots' in the body. These are adapted to neutralize bacteria and pathogens common in the swamp's disease-ridden waters. The blood is adapted to deal with the effects of naturally occurring anaerobic decomposition gases that accumulate in stagnant swamp bottom mud.
Inside them is internal air sacs that can be inflated with gas quickly surface or slowly sink for vertical movement control while in the water, but these sacs are vulnerable to sharp puncture wounds.
Culture
The Ibanhon clan's culture mainly deals with culinary art, as well as their signature hunting practices. The reason why that is the case is that they solely depend on the blood of animals to survive, hence their culinary sense, which at some point has to do with how they sometimes eat the fingers of a swamp animal commonly referred to as a Vaa'zro. The fingers of the Vaa'zro are considered a favoured food in the Ibanhon clan, which is why every time an Ibanhon Ibanhon cooks a Vaa'zro finger over a roasting fire he or she has to make sure that the unusually large finger is cooked medium-well.
Given that, most people would generally assume that the Ibanhon kin'toni are savages, but some kin'toni disagree, suggesting that their hunting is just a simple way of life for them. Their methods in which they hunt makes up for a great deal of their culture, not to mention the fact that most of the kin'toni in this clan were trained to hunt from the moment they were turned. It's not uncommon for one to suggest that the kin'toni in this particular clan are natural survivalists who work hard at their craft to make sure that everything comes out right in the end.
Especially when it comes to the hunt and the culinary subsequence that follows. Another part of the Ibanhon kin'toni's culture is their use of combat training, especially in times of war and famine. Because the Ibanhon kin'toni's desire for a simple life has driven them to train during a great deal of the night for things that might or might not happen in the event of a potential invasion, it's only fair that one can do their best to stay hidden from their oppositions and rivals as much as possible. Even if it comes to coming within close contact with said rivals.
They have a desire to live a simple life and make preparations for whatever might (inevitably) happen. Given that, one can only assume that this clan, although they have been known to have good intentions when around themselves or allies that are close to them, believes primarily in the concept of, "Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer," although not entirely in that certain order. kin'toni of this particular clan like to be within close range of their allies, especially when it comes to holding meetings between themselves ad their aforementioned allies.
They prefer this to be the case because they find it much easier to band together with some other clans in coming up with ideas to try and survive a little longer.
Government
Because of this new set of rules, which was set in stone by Nalshy Vorrd's eventual successor Giryn Zacaxo, a government meeting between the clan leader and the clan leader's cabinet is generally held once every ten years to discuss the legislation currently in effect and whether or not they apply to the present day. Since the initial laws were set in stone by Zacaxo they have undergone a few minor revisions leading up to the present, which has led most of the laws to be suggested by the kin'toni of the clan as opposed to the government it is run on.
Generally speaking, the Ibanhon clan's government is run specifically as a tribal council. The clan's tribal council consists of a few dozen of the most intellectually-gifted kin'toni in the Ibanhon clan; however, the smartest of these few dozen kin'toni is considered to be the leader, the head honcho, the boss, and all legislative and executive suggestions must be directed toward him or her. The leader of this tribal council, referred to in the Ibanhon clan as the Za'sroya, has the distinct responsibility of making the final decision in determining which of the laws were suggested by kin'toni.
This clan should be considered, and once these laws are considered by this authority figure, the rest of the Council will have the distinct responsibility of enforcing these aforementioned suggestions. Given that, each of the Tribal Councilors has an equal and just responsibility of maintaining and sustaining life in the Ibanhon clan, and these few dozen kin'toni thereby hold the future of their clan in their hands. For one to become a member of the Tribal Council he or she will have had to have served in the clan's military, which is essentially a training ground for hunters and fighters alike.
After the initial violent contestants are selected by the Za'sroya and his or her council they will conduct a battle to determine who is the best candidate for the Tribal Council position that is available at the time, the battle is fought unarmed and the battle is until one gives up and surrenders. The battle is done in a nine-foot by nine-foot wooden platform sticking out above the swamp. The winner gets the position on the Tribal Council and the loser cannot try again for 10 more years. The typical initiation into the Tribal Council is a party that is hosted by the councillors themselves.
And it is usually set to take place in a large cave where the clan supposedly will meet to participate in the party by playing tag with one another and then engaging in a chant, with any kin'toni in the clan getting an equal opportunity to lead the chant. However, if it is revealed during a typical term in the Council that one of their own has been unfaithful, they will be tried and undergo a test which is administered by the three most intellectual kin'toni in the clan. The Za'sroya will determine through his two elders whether or not the accused is telling the truth or lying based on the reactions of his two elders.
If the accused is lying, he will be exiled from the clan or sacrificed; if the accused is being truthful, however, they will continue to serve on the Tribal Council.
Military
The Ibanhon clan's military is more like a tribe than anything else, for they operate on a constant hunt basis during the night, and often do so in groups of four or five to hide behind trees or in trees or forest brush. The typical military exercises are very simple hunts for capturing and adopting small stray animals known as fynra'ni, which are feline animals. From there they learn how to use their fynra'ni to track and spot much larger animals which they might be able to hunt down on their own. Every once in a while during the nighttime hours, the typical Ibanhon military will split up into many different groups.
Usually groups of five or six, and at that particular point in time, they will then hide in trees to look for their prey. During the night the leaders of this clan's military will sometimes train their own in learning how to hunt, which is something that is often quite difficult to master in a short period; however, given that most of the Ibanhon kin'toni have an advanced and enhanced sense of sight and hearing most can do that while without being noticed by any animals. Generally, the process of learning how to hunt while takes a few decades to master.
But once a kin'toni belonging to this clan can learn how to master hunting, they can often rise the ranks and potentially lead their troop one day. Sometimes they have been known for not getting enough sleep during the day as most of the kin'toni in this clan sleep in caves while a minority of them are lucky enough to sleep underground, but despite all that most of the Ibanhon kin'toni can sleep surprisingly well, with some even having dreams in their sleep while they plan for the night ahead. However, those that sleep in caves are more likely to hear noises coming from certain areas in the swamp.
Beyond the cave, which is usually detected by their heightened sense of hearing; in fact, some even fall out of REM sleep and can sometimes wake up without opening their eyes, going as far as to enhance their training during the daytime hours. In light of all of that, anyone that is turned is automatically enlisted into the Ibanhon Corps and immediately undergoes a physical exam to test how fast their transformation is. From there one is trained to hunt without being seen while they continue to transform so that upon the completion of their mentioned transformation they will be able to detect and capture things.
Without being detected themselves, and beyond the transformation they learn new things as they pertain to hunting, with the possibility of getting promoted and rising a rank being a strong possibility; nonetheless, the need to capture and sometimes kill their prey is paramount in this military.
Religion
The Ibanhon clan believes in a rather new religion that was originally started by a kin'toni from an ally clan of theirs; the new religion, known in the Ibanhon clan as Kza, is the belief in an animal spirit, or, in some cases, the spirit of the animal. The animals that they worship are, in fact, all of the animals on Terael, as well as those animals' predecessors; given this, it is critical to note that the worship of these ancient animals of past and present has been a constant tradition for the Ibanhon clan according to recent studies conducted by kin'toni'ati priests.
This study, which was conducted just a few years ago, show that Ibanhon kin'toni had converted from a prior popular religion to Kza. Because of a conflict of interest in their ally clan's beliefs. his study, which was conducted just a century ago, show that Ibanhon kin'toni had recently converted to Kza from their previous predominant religion as a result of one of their ally clans in the Boughdyn clan creating a new religion that supposedly worships the spirits of animals. Thus, this religion took effect and made a stronghold upon the Ibanhon clan's beliefs.
And these beliefs in an animal having a spirit were injected into the Ibanhon kin'toni, teaching them how to look at life from the perspective of an animal's spirit. Since the Kza religion is fairly new, most of the Ibanhon kin'toni believe that to have one's prayers answered. One has to adopt and raise a stray feline animal, which may also explain why there are still many of these small animals running around in the swamp. And because one is thought to have to adopt a stray feline for one's prayers to be answered, it can also be said that.
According to Ibanhon folklore, Walshy Vorrd once adopted a stray feline animal from the swamp and Vorrd's prayers were answered in due time, although not immediately. If it is true, no one knows. That is why is it important for an Ibanhon kin'toni to raise stray animals when they are abandoned by their owners and left to die, and that also proves how the Ibanhon clan has managed to train them into finding other larger animals. Some of the most religious Kzaists generally hold a mass once every month in a cave, where it is believed that about fifty per cent of the entire Ibanhon clan is said to meet.
For a few hours of praise and worship of ancient animals of past and present. Inside the cave, kin'toni has been known to draw pictures of these animals on the cavern walls, and other kin'toni in this clan have been known to look at these pictures upon. Some kin'toni have been known to praise these drawings as masterpieces made of different colours, although it is suggested that most of the kin'toni who obtain different colours of paint do so by searching deep in the cave for jars of paint that was made years before and have since dried out.
