History

The Hathdani clan was originally known as the Alquan clan, and it was originally formed in the year 4E 50 with about twelve thousand in population. In the years 4E 100 to 4E 150, there was a dark time of much death and darkness called the Shattering by kin'toni and zu'aan. At that time clans was fighting clans over resources and zu'aan to turn. Around one-half of the around fifty thousand clans of the time were nearly wiped out. Twenty thousand of these clans survived past the Shattering to the Third Era. The Alquan clan lost around five thousand kin'toni in the war, the clan then having seven thousand in number. Then one night, in the year 4E 107, a then-unknown group of rebels invaded.

They were kin'toni that had been cast out of the then-named Alquan clan and members of the many clans shattered in the Shattering. The rebels, calling themselves the Unbroken had around ten thousand kin'toni from around five clans. They wanted to wipe out their rivals, starting with the then powerful Alquan clan. The Alquan clan never knew about this invasion, and they were quickly decimated and forced to retreat. Those that survived fled to other clans, while the victors and their leader, Lated Athturskel, claimed this land as their own. The Unbroken had lost around three thousand in the battles and military campaigns to decimate the Alquan clan.

The size thousand Unbroken that survived renamed the clan the "Hathdani" clan. In 4E 135, years after the invasion, the descendants of the surviving "real" founders of the now-named Hathdani clan came back. They are who had fled from Lated Athturskel, and his rebels came back for revenge. They had rebuilt some of their numbers to around three thousand by turning zu'aan and enslaving other, smaller clans. This group of kin'toni were now calling themselves the "Descendants". The kin'toni who were Lated Athturskel's rebels were now calling themselves "Followers of Lated Athturskel".

The Descendants ambushed the Followers of Lated Athturskel, attacking in the thousands when Athturskel and his legion least expected it. The numbers game was enough to cause serious bloodshed and mass murder throughout this clan. Those that were able to make it out in one piece managed to flee but died before they could reach the next nearby continent. Both the Descendants and the Followers of Lated Athturskel suffered great losses. The Descendants had only around five hundred left after the battle and the Followers of Lated Athturskel were nearly wiped out, only having around three hundred of them left.

The Followers of Lated Athturskel swore that they would come back. After decades of relentless enslavement, an anorexic Athturskel pleaded for his life to be spared. At first, the Descendants initially declined, but after several debates within the families, they decided to spare him his life on the condition that he serve as the clan's religious and political advisor. Athturskel knew nothing of the former or the latter, but after agreeing to this condition several elders became his helpers, giving him advice as he gave his new responsibilities a breath of fresh air. Although Athturskel died before he could be successfully nursed back to health in the year 4E 141.

His leadership and eventual expertise in the fields of politics and religion led the Descendants to build a statue of him in his honour and found a religion based on his existence and overall use of common sense. This religion ended up being the main religion of this clan. After over a hundred years, the Followers of Lated Athturskel have rebuilt and are coming back for vengeance, there is a war on the horizon. Now is the start of the Third Era, a time that will test the clan as the other clans are closing in, wanting the resources of the Hathdani kin'toni Clan and this is with a new ice age coming.

Psychology

kin'toni in this particular clan is not only proud, but despite the apocalypse brewing on the horizon, they are optimistic and cheerful. They have a very loose society, tied together only by a common goal and common sense. When compared to other clans in the kin'toni'ati race this one, in particular, tends to have the most survival training considering how much of their night is spent preparing for whatever is to come. Psychology in this clan is somewhat of a new concept for these kin'toni as only a few thousand years ago the concept of psychology was tackled.

Back in the year 4E 117, there were several philosophers from this clan who spent their nights observing the behaviours of other fellow Haarvenians. These philosophers, now known as Tinusyn and Zaoquin, concluded after a few months' work that almost everyone in this clan has some form of determination that is brought by hunting and gathering skills. In the years that followed other philosophers from other clans began to jump ship to join this one because either: One, they didn't feel welcome or needed in their other clan.

Or; two, they had committed a terrible offence which was punishable by extradition. One of these philosophers, simply known as Ayzr — or, the All-Seeing Eye — observed many kin'toni in this clan and concluded that most of them possessed enough common sense to get through the worst of storms. But for the most part, kin'toni in this clan are generally regarded as very extroverted. It is possibly mainly because of their ability to build huts and do other things that involve the use of common knowledge. Unusually, kin'toni from this clan is very extroverted.

Maybe because in this clan the extroverted were able to work together and to the benefit of the clan. The clan's kin'toni can work together most of the time, but as shown in the Shattering, they can be divided and it never bodes well for the clan. The clan is still divided into two factions, that had been around since the Shattering. They are the Descendants, the most of the clan and the Followers of Lated Athturskel, the exiled. kin'toni of the Hathdani clan, love water instead of disliking it, unlike many other kin'toni clans.

Biology

The Hathdani are adapted to the hot, humid, and of limited resources, Qatar Isle. They are tall, slender and lean of build. This allows them to quickly over hot, uneven terrain and have efficient heat dissipation. The downside of this build that they are less resistant to impact damage and crushing. Their skin is shaded in shades of lush green and deep browns to blend with their landscapes. The skin is adapted to be extra leathery and resistant to abrasion from salt and sand. The downside of this is an lower regenerative speed in the outermost dermal layer, leading to surface wounds being slower to close.

The skin has extensive subcutaneous capillary networks and using changed sweat glands, the ability to sweat an excreted, mineral-rich fluid that allows for rapid evaporative cooling through a thin layer. This fluid's production makes the clan need more blood to replenish the minerals and fluid lost. The body has only very fine, very little body hair, and the hair on their heads is dark and tightly coiled. The hair aids in evaporation and scalp cooling. Eyes are sandy yellow in color, small, with thick dark eyelids and three-layered nictitating membranes to protect against dust, sand, and glare.

The eyes can secrete a saline fluid to keep the clear membrane clean of salt spray and dust. The ears are long, pointed and act like radiators to wick away heat. Their teeth are needle like, elongated and adapted for quick, clean punctures for blood taking. These teeth struggle with tearing and chewing tough or sinewy flesh. The nose is small, and able to be sealed rightly to prevent the inhalation of fine sand and salt spray. The downside of this is being able to smell much if the nose-holes are closed.

The nose has internal air passages adapted as a cyclone filter to clear away the sand and dust particles from the air they breathe by trapping it in thick mucus. The sand and dust filled mucus is spat up. This system can be overwhelmed, leading to severe, debilitating sinus infections. The claws are wide, spade-like and blunt, adapted for digging in sand, not for climbing or fighting. The hands and feet have muscles adapted for fast, powerful digging. These muscles came into being as digging shelters into the earth and sand, helps survive the harsh UV light.

With the muscles being adapted for digging, they get cramps and spasms if they keep an tight, prolonged grip on a weapon or tool. Feet have thick, multi-layered pads that are highly heat resisant, and this allows them to scorching hot sand and rock. The downside of this is an much lowered sensory perception of ground vibrations. The blood vessels near the skin are adapted with extra muscular sphincters to quickly move blood to the surface for cooling as needed. This can lead to quick hypothermia or frostbite in colder environments.

They are able to break down and filter out high concentrations of salt and ingested mineral impurities from their blood meals. This system can be overwhelmed if it encounters heavy toxins or biological poisons that are not native to their environment.

Culture

Hathdani kin'toni uses a large collection of materials to create clothing which consists of palm leaves, bark, vines, seaweed, fish bones and seashells. Seaweed is commonly used by females for camouflage to hide away from predators when scavenging the seafloor for seaweed and other useful materials for the clan. Hathdani kin'toni is swift hunters that work with the element of surprise and teamwork. They hunt in packs which consists of four to five miles. When hunting the Haavenu will lure their prey then ambush it. The Hathdani Clan never leave anything to waste, especially with fish leftovers, the guts of the fish are used as bait and the bones are used for weapons and armour.

Hathdani kin'toni lives in huts that are created with large leaves, wood and vines. These huts are made of a-top sturdy trees that are close to the shoreline. This makes it easier as it helps them to stay away from land predators at night and keep their huts from being ruined by the tide. In an attempt to display survival skill, they often use moderate-sized pieces of timber that have just recently fallen or uprooted to chop with sharpened rocks, set in a wooden handle and tied together with vines. They use these as axes in an attempt to chop wood. When using their stone axes, they often will lay the piece of timber down onto the ground before the chop.

As soon as they have the right position down pat, they will chop the piece of timber horizontally and, one chop at a time, they will break the piece of timber down into smaller pieces. After this, they will chop each chopped piece of timber vertically to split them in half. The next night, after they have chopped and piled up these moderate-sized pieces of timber into small pieces of wood, they will then pour huba juice (a form of flammable oil extracted from the huba plant by crushing the leaves and stems) on the pile before grabbing a match or two, lighting it up, and dropping the match(es) on the pile. As soon as the pile begins to burn they will then decide to camp out in the nighttime stars.

They will then grab a few Valxyll, a coconut-like fruit to share and warm them up by putting them right next to the fire for a moment or two before drinking the coconut juice like a fresh cup of coffee. The juice seems to have a stimulant effect on them if consumed in large amounts. This is their way of having a good time. Many kin'toni have more than one name, a short name that is public and a longer name that has personal meaning, they keep to only loved ones. The short names are things like Malahaion [translated as "Ancient"] and the long names are things like Ulala-yea Malahaion Qurai [translated as "Bearer of Ancient Stars"].

Government

Military

This clan didn't have a very big military as it used to have only a couple of hundred kin'toni in it, but over the last thousand years there has been a swift and furious uptick in enrollment, and conscription has been started. With the dawning of a new Ice Age and forthcoming war, there are now close to three hundred kin'toni in this clan's military. This is all, but two hundred of the clans' numbers. This may be the result of the Tribe's attempts to prepare the Hathdani clan for total war. This military, which is often referred to as the Tribal Corps, has a strict and unique policy that involves rigorous training sessions and exercises in the jungle.

A specific area in the forest of Uatmali where they learn to hunt, fight, and defend their territory. Anyone that comes of age in this clan is automatically put into this clan's military, but no basic training is required as the members of this clan's military train on a nightly basis. From time to time the clan will go on special trips to meet with the Ulu, which makes weekly trips to the jungle where this clan's military trains. The Ulu will meet with the leaders of the Tribal Corps (who are often referred to as Alucundus) and give them a weekly review on how good their military is training and the Ulu will also give them advice on what the best way.

In which to prepare its militia for total war before the Alucundus and Ulu salute each other. Following this, the Ulu will return to his underground bunker. The Tribal Corps — when training in the jungle in the dead of night, undergo a series of exercises directed by the chief Alucundu. These exercises range from sit-ups to jumping jacks, and sometimes they time each other to determine who can climb up and down a tree the fastest. Their signature exercise is a march around the jungle, which requires a lot of stamina. This is often done at a moderate speed and takes about an hour to complete.

The army relies heavily on lots of infantry and the use of stone weapons. Their tactics use the large numbers of kin'toni they have in their army. They have even used kin'toni wave tactics once. These types of tactics are not used much, for they lead to great losses. They are famous for ruthlessness and for their refusal to accept surrender. Each force contains 2 squadrons of 35 soldiers. They have a strict chain of command, with ranks based on appointment by civilian officials. At the moment, they are resting in between campaigns to drive other clans from the places near the Hathdani kin'toni Clan's home.

Religion

The kin'toni in this particular clan isn't as religious as those in other clans; however, they do believe in the existence of the seas and the ocean and often worship the marine life of the ocean, as well as some life on the island. This religious form of worship is often referred to as the Xunaomo (translated as Island and Ocean Praise), but this religious form of worship is not very often practised, as they believe foremost that once they die their souls will go into the sea to dwell there forever. Every month at month's end the believers of this religion will gather together to celebrate and praise the creatures of the island and sea.

As well as the dawning of a new month which often occurs in the middle of the night. It is during this time of worship that they gather wood and chop it up into smaller pieces of logging to set ablaze somewhere close to the shore with huba juice and a match or two. This is how they worship the creatures of the island and sea. Perhaps what is most interesting about the believers of this clan is that only roughly 54 to 64 per cent of the kin'toni in the Hathdani clan believe in this choice of religion, and the rest choose not to believe in a religion at all, thereby declaring that they are agnostic from now and moving forward.

The reason for this divide between a religion and a lack of religion lies within the believer's attempts to convince the nonbelievers to convert to Xunaomoism. This is because followers of Xunaomoism have been known to burn kin'toni who do not believe as heretics on the pyre. kin'toni from other clans have ended up as offerings to the sea god, Xuna. The divide in this clan from this could rip the clan apart. The symbol of Xunaomoism is a representation of a body part (head, foot, etc) and a representation of a deity. The holy colour is crimson and blue. It is passed down via a strong oral tradition.

The creation myth is that the land that is lived on had emerged from the sea. The mortals originate from water. A major myth and its symbols are the labyrinths, the betrayal, the exile There is one problem with the logic behind some of the purposes of this particular religion, however: since the island is slightly hotter than most other places on the Terael world map, much of the marine life in the ocean choose to move elsewhere in the sea to seek the ideal temperature for an ideal environment, so the lack of marine life in the oceans below Uatmali serves as this religion's defeated purpose to an extent.

Miscellany

Before the start of every single meeting, the elders of the Tribe will gather in the centre of their underground bunker to form a circle around their circular table; after they do this, they will then perform an ancient chant, supposedly dedicated to their ancestors from before the Shattering, by saying in Haarvenan and then Azmian, "Bring me the power of our ancestors long gone," and repeat this chant in both of their languages until the sound of a forest wolf can be heard from above the bunker.

Sometimes a Hathdani kin'toni can be seen hunting in the forest, usually being accompanied by several of his kin as they are hunting as a group. As a result of this, when they are hunting they will often find fruit on the trees, prompting them to shake the tree until the fruit falls. In most cases, cherry-shaped fruit such as the uao or the orange-shaped fruit ansu will fall from it one at a time during the shake, at which point the family would then stop shaking the tree and eat the fresh fruit before they continue their hunt.

What is also a commonly overlooked fact about this clan of kin'toni is the fact some are said to have the ability to hear animals talking in their native language, notably the peacock-shaped pqoalu or the large, polar bear-like creature known as the wofn. These animals which they encounter in the forest area are in stories, sometimes be heard speaking in one — but not both — of their native languages. From there the group that hunts in this forest and encounters these creatures often befriend them as a result of their ability to communicate with them.

There is no proof of this happening, but it is in the mythology of the Hathdani kin'toni Clan. In rare cases, a kin'toni can be seen on the island part of the Uatmali region taking care of his or her animals as if these animals were his or her pets. From time to time other kin'toni in this clan will notice, but while some gawk at the sight of something like this others help the caretaker nurture whatever animals that this caretaker nurtures with him or her. So, more often than not it is often a win-win for the kin'toni and the animals as they bond together on the island as guardians and pets.
