Geography
The Fibodian Tropical Mountain as the name suggest is a mountainous range that spans over half a thousand square kilometres in landmass. Surrounded by the mountainous region on the west and the Eastern Taerel Sea on the East, Fibod is one of, if not the most biodiverse landmass in the whole of Taerel. Each mountain is unique from one another where some would open up caves and caverns while some would house different habitats and a microhabitat of flora and fauna unique to a particular mountain.
Some mountains open up to cave system so large it could well fit more than a hundred of Kalvorian ships. Some of these caves even house gavir – a type of nocturnal animal in the region. Other cave system intricately connects to other cave entrances. This underground cave system is called “trovong” or tunnel. These trovong are usually inhabited by tuhanut and gavir. These caves are also very important to many beast in land including wild bouvang and rimau. What really sets apart some mountains in this region is the uniqueness of many mountains that accommodates a microhabitat of various plants and animals unique to particular mountains.
Mount Daaku for instance is house to a type of luminescent bug that will glow in a bright yellow coloured light as opposed to the typical glowbug – suu’sumbu that would otherwise glow a dim yellow coloured light. Many Ril’quao who set up the Daaku shrine figured out that these bright light must be caused by the Daaku suu’sumbu diet of sulphur deposits in the mountain. Mount Daaku also houses a particular fruit that only grows next to a mountain salt deposits on the mountain.
The fruit – Langhau, is sweet and sour at the same time but ironically not salty. It usually attracts other animals across the region including kara and gob’huk. Salts deposits like the ones in Mount Daaku is especially a treat to wild tambang that likes to lick the stones near the salt deposit to benefit from the mineral. The Fibodian landmass is also home to a long stretch of river which flows from Nuh and other larger mountains the region. These river runs across many leagues from the middle of Fibod out to the sea, crossing Darot Monsoon Jungle and Lorche Tropical Flower Plains.
These rivers would also connect to lakes and canals and sometimes even flood to create small ponds in the middle of the forest during the rainy seasons. These rivers are wide enough and deep enough for large Fibodian ships to pass through. Unlike may rivers, the Fibodian waters is clear and usually free from dirt. This is hugely thanks to the pomorisi plant that grows in abundance underwater. These plants feed by absorbing in water and filtering out lose soil from the water to feed on small river planktons and other microorganisms suspended in the waters.
Over the years, the number of canals have grown exponentially as Fibodian’s main mode of transportation is on boats, ships or any other means of water transportation. A few notable mines in the region include the Vatu Limestone mine and Datu’ Granite mine which is used in many important buildings especially the Fibodian Royal Palace and Darotian Citadel.
Plants
One of the most prominent plant in the kingdom would easily be the nuk tree. Revered as a sacred flora, the tree is protected year-round by Ril’quaos, guards and even the animals that live on it. It has large lanceolate or lance-shaped leaves and can stand up to a furlong tall. Nuks are dioecious and require a pair of male and female plant to reproduce. It would then produce only a handful of fruit from the female tree and its seed will be dispersed naturally by plants and animals around the area.
Apart from standing out from the rest due to its massive size, nuk trees also produce an extremely nice-smelling odour that is used in many therapeutic medicine that’s produced by the alchemist in Lorche. Boruti is one of the most populous plant in the region. It’s a type of non-fruiting fruit that has a cordate or heart-shaped leaf. It can stand up to half a furlong tall. The boruti tree is home to multiple animals including kara, gob’huk, piip, bosing and more. Its large buttress roots can sometimes be home to herds of bakas as it offers protection from the wind and other large predators.
The boruti wood is commonly used for carpentry purposes including the building of castle, monastery, roofed-town squares and other important grand building in the kingdom. Another common tree in this region is the kasia tree. Kasias is another type of non-fruiting tree that, like the Boruti, has a cordate or heart-shaped leaves. It’s shy of a quarter of a furlong tall in its prime and house mainly birds including piip and gang-gaang. Kasias have huge barks that are commonly used in carpentry, usually in making buildings, archways, , bridges and many more important structures.
Kasias are the main source of wood material used in the region as far as structure is concerned. They are highly valued due to its strict protection by the kingdom. This is because kasia takes up to 30 years to fully mature and ready to be used as timber. Tambahang is another highly valued piece of wood. Tambahang is a type of non-fruiting tree tree that has a acicular or needle-shaped leaves. It can grow up to a quarter of a furlong tall and takes only a decade to fully mature. Tambahang wood is denser than most timber and is usually used for boat-making.
Tambahang also secretes a type of wax that makes the wood water-proof and is pefect for boat-making and for shingles for roofs of houses and other buildings. There are a number of fruiting trees in Fibod. These includes lhampun and tima’dang which is rich in iron. These trees commonly house treetops animals like the kara and also small critters like the bosing. Another important plant in this region is the pomorisi which grows in abundance underwater in the river, lakes and ponds of the Fibodian bodies of water.
This plant feeds of small microbes that is suspended on the water. It works in such a way that it feeds in water from its “mouth” and deposits the access, filtered water from its permeable skins. What’s amazing is that the soil that is sucks in is then deposited via a special tubing in its stem that’s then transferred to its roots.
Animals
Kondiu is a massive bird that has huge tallons and beaks. There are several colours of kondiu either black, brown, white, golden or a mix of any two. It’s three times larger than a zu’aan (or kin'toni) and has eyes that emits a bright light that imitates the rays of the sun. Its main diets include tambang, kara and gob’huk but there being omnivores they also feed of fruits and berries as well. They’re able to live up to hundreds of years and is able to fly as high as sky goes.
They are usually quiet creatures and don’t make any sound even if in distress (exception for babbies and young kondiu). They do however communicate through a low dissonance growl that is picked up by other kondiu as sensible messages. However, when in war or when truly threatened, the kondiu may cry out a battle cry that sounds that can be heard throughout the land. It is rare that the kondiu will cry out what is considered as the royal ‘kondiu incitation’ or also known as the whisper. They are the symbol of unity of the Fibodian kingdom and can only be controlled by the royal family.
Tambang is a medium-sized beast that walks on all four of its strong muscular legs. They are different sorts of tambang and depending on its species, their colours are vary from one to the other. Royal tambang are white in colour whereas ground tambang (or normal tambang) is brown in colour. The largest of the species of tambang is the black wild tambang which is slightly bigger thant he royal tambang. They are herbivores and feed mainly on hays, fruits and riverweed. Tambang are used as transportation, logistics and are also used in convoys, sentry guards and wars.
They are light-footed and agile and is perfect for mountainous and rough terrain. Bakas are big stout beast that is very hard to be tamed. They are usually reserved for wars and logistics. Feeding on fruits, hays, insects, meat and fishes, these beast is not a picky eater. Its thick skins is perfect to tank in a battle. Despite its weight, its muscular though short legs gives it the ability to run fast in a short time span. Its domesticated cousin – the vog’hok on the other hand is one of the main source of meat for the people of this region.
Poil’kan are white-feathered birds that. They are no larger than a child zu’aan. They mainly feed on fish and berries. Poil’kan are sacred beings even prior to the Great Conversion. Before the Great Conversion, poil’kan was almost exclusively found in the Bu’dang lake next to the Lorche Tropical Flower Plains. However after the great plague, the poil’kan’s blood is often drained for consumption by the Kalvorians. To this day, poil’kan is a heavily guarded and protected beast.
Kara and Gob’huk are one of the most common animals in the kingdom. They are both treetops dwellers and feed mainly on fruits. Unlike the gob’huk the karas are always a hassle to deal with. They tend to steal from crops and known to cause disruption to farmers and passer-bys as they find it rather amusing to toy around with others. Another notable animal that serves an important role in the kingdom are messenger piips. They are several types of piip but the usual ones are the messenger piips which is dark-blue in colour.
They feed no mainly fruits, nuts, berries and small insects in the wild but tamed messenger piips in the bestiary are usually fed fruits and nuts only.
