Zanglor Kin'toni Clan
Water tribe, wandering clan, they skulk by damp places, hunters, known for eerie singing, portents of their victims doom
History
These were town folk who once upon a time were very sociable and friendly. Simple folk with good values and deeply religious. When they were struck by the disease of kin’toni, they at first fought the urge to kill and feed off of zu’aan blood, but over time it became too much for them and they fed mercilessly, laden with guilt as they consumed the blood they needed so much to preserve their lives. Soon they found themselves living on the razors edge, feeding off the innocent and fighting with the authorities who were sent to apprehend and destroy them. After time the towns were no longer a safe haven for them anymore.
And they went deep unto the wilderness. The desert planes were too hot for them and too far away from any pickings for them to feast off, so they found themselves instead moving to the outskirts of the town lands, drawn towards river like areas. They found the water calming and also their bodies liked the damp air and soft muck of the ground. They slowly found homes inside caves and the remnants of burnt out trees from unnamed wars and built up a community for themselves where they would lurk and hide until such a time as some poor misfortune walked upon their path innocently.
And they would be upon them, tearing them to pieces and feasting with a mixture of greed and soul consuming guilt. They would also send hunters to travel along the rivers edge towards the towns and search for more victims to bring back to the dominion of the tribe. And so, this is how they etched out their new lives upon the waters edge. They have had some run ins with other tribes and militia in town areas when they have been hunting for more victims but they morphed into agile, squirming, lurking creatures that move very fast and now the terrain of hard to reach places very well.
So when ever they had been confronted they would always make good their get away. Over the decades they learned the terrain of the ancient waterways, caves and coves and submerged themselves deep within the ancient rocks into the dark depths where many others would fear to go as these places were full of things that squirmed and slimed and slopped. They liked it down there where it was dark and murky and moist. They did their best to stay away from society and if only for their insatiable need to consume the blood of zu’aan, they never would have ventured into the lands of the populated world ever again.
They stayed away from the other tribes who as far as they could see liked to battle with each other and have their politics. As the years went by, this tribe lost the power of their voice and would only speak in guttural tones of grunts and animal noises befitting of things that lived in the dark places
Biology
Their eyes have dark pink irises with white sclerae and horizontal rectangular pupils Thin and scrawny, emaciated and gangly creatures, very bendy and elongated. They have a wiry elasticated way of moving. Their skin is slimy and they are good at fitting into crevices and bending around sharp and tight corners. They have bones protruding out of their skin and long pointy fingers with tipped nails that curve and scratch as they are very sharp. They sound very weak and are always making wheezing sounds with their breath as they move, like they might fall over and collapse into a heap at any second.
They look very unwell, almost like living dead. Their skin is a grey blue shade and their features very sunken, their protruding eyes have deep rings around them. They have excellent eye sight in the dark, even in deep black caverns. Their sense of smell is very high and they can smell food 800 yards away. They are very week and always tired, but they have got used to the never ending pain that their body is constantly undergoing and have learned to carry on as they suffer.
It is gruelling for them to move as every muscle in their body is always aching and their bones never stop hurting when they move. They have white blood. They injure very easily and even the slightest fall will gash and cut them. They do not heal very fast and can be destroyed easily by being impaled, decapitated and set fire to.
Direct sunlight will make them burn immediately. They have very sharp claws and teeth. Once they sink their teeth into something they pull it apart violently. The taste of blood in their mouth makes them evil and psychotic. Their internal organs move very slowly.
The heart beats softly. They constantly have a lot of liquids inside their stomach. This is which adds to the strange gurgling rasping noises they always make when they move and breathe. Their organs are very soft and elasticated. Their sense of time also is very slowed down and they perceive reality as if it is happening at half the speed as it actually is taking place. They cannot drink much zu’aan blood in one go but they crave it endlessly and feel week and faint without it. They drink it fast and first and almost choke and force themselves to drink slower. They never learn and also damage themselves each time they gargle blood.
It doesn’t seem to ever give them the energy they hope it will. They are very nervous. Their entire system is all over the place and constantly going through spasms. They limp and hobble all the time as there is hardly any muscle on their legs. Some parts of their torsoe is missing skin and bones stick out along with other nondescript lumpy bits. They are constantly agonised.
Culture
They are a nervous tribe, constantly paranoid of unforeseen dangers that may come from any angle. They shun themselves away from all society, spending their days and nights lurking in deep and dark caverns and Icey depths close to rivers and other waters edge, seeking solitude in dark and damp places. They have massive guilt complexes about the terrible things they have done. This is during their overlong existence and despise that they have become twisted and awful creatures that must feed upon the blood of innocents to survive. They huddle together in these caverns, seeking strength in their numbers.
It makes also the emotional pain more bearable for them to suffer together in this way. They like silence and often sit crouched in the dark places, listening to the dripping of water in the caver. Their hearing is incredible so they often are sitting or lying in wait, listening to the cave sounds, always ready for any approaching victim that may have lost their way. They are always ready for the hunt. Even though it pains their spirits so to hunt and kill, they have a very strong survival urge and will do what ever it takes to continue their existence.
Once they get the taste of zu’aan blood in their mouth, they became ferocious and gulp it down insanely, developing then an insatiable hunger for more of it. They have allotted times where official members of the clan will address them all and relate stories from their past. Some of these tales have now passed down into the realms of mythology. They are very attentive during this vceremony. It is very important for their tribe to relive these stories. They are listeners so they tend to have only one allotted story teller to do the telling. They also like quiet and only speak when it is absolutely vital that they do so. They do not have many cultural differences but they often fight over the mundane, such as rights of blood and personal space.
It has been known for them to attack one another because one believes the other is occupying their sleeping space.
These fights can often become incredibly violent and sometimes result in destruction. The others will not pay much heed to this and will ignore the aggressive activities. They can be somewhat unemotional about many things. They are a very depressed tribe and feel that the world never wanted them in it and has forced them to live a reclusive life in the worst places imaginable. They will fester in the dark for as much as possible and will only venture up to the world outside when exhaustion and starvation has got the better of them and they are forced to hunt in order to revitalise themselves.
They have no real soul interests anymore. They keep their stories alive as they are desperately looking for some kind of meaning into who or what or why they are. Where they have come from and where they might be going. Very negative tribe who have a toxic co-dependence with each other.
Government
The tribal leaders are constantly changing in this clan and are decided by a number of factors. There are two class systems in this clan. There are the tribal leaders and then there are the DRONES. The leaders often elect themselves and also unelect themselves, depending on how psychological fit they feel for the task of governing. A toxic and physical weakened tribe who prefer the solitude of dark, damp and cold places, this group do not have any laws as such and so have no real of leaders. Usually clan folk who feel more energetic will assume charge and decide what the tribe should do that day.
Most of the time they skulk in the shadows away from civilisation. So there normally is no real need for leaders or people in positions of authority and power, but some times when important things have to be done (such as hunting for zu’aan blood or defending themselves against attacking tribes of zu’aan), some leaders will elect themselves and come up with a plan. The rest of the tribe will mostly follow what ever is decided by the self elected leaders,. But though sometimes there may be a conflict. Usually the conflicting leaders will argue until one either relinquishes interests in leaderships duties.
Or until such a time as the argument escalates into a full blown violent confrontation and one of them is either seriously injured or destroyed. Often when they are discussing battle tactics they can have huge arguments. And many difference of opinions and it can take ages for them to reach any kind of decision. On some occasions they have argued for so long about what to do with an approaching army that they have suddenly found that then enemy have surrounded them and they had not even picked up a leader and come up with any tactics to defend themselves.
On these occasions they had been forced to make a hasty and scattered retreat.
Normally they do their best to avoid conflict or contact with the outside world. They have no laws as such in their tribe. If any clan members have an altercation with each other it is considered to be their problem alone and no one elses. They will argue until they fight or are destroyed or come to an agreement. They do not like being told what to do by anyone. They just want to be left alone in the dark. They have so many emotional and psychological wounds that they believe an organised government will only add to their problems. Normally an elected leader will only stay elected for a few days at the most.
They are prone to extreme mood swings and cannot handle the pressure. Their government is constantly being dissolved so they never have any real organisation in the tribe. They have no goals or aspirations, apart from survival and self imposed solitude, so they never form a permanent government.
Military
They are more hands on type of military outfit and have no permanent military leaders and will appoint each other, sometimes even them selves individually to take over various military based tasks. Neither are they great strategists either. They are skulkers by nature and prefer to hide away from the enemy when possible. On the rare occasion when a fight or a battle brings it self to their territory, one will take command and order the others into some semblance of military order. They do not really have weapons and also lack the skill and discipline to wield weaponry correctly so they will normally use what ever objects come to hand in a fighting scenario.
They will use their skulking and lurking skills to maximum effect by crawling into tunnels, nooks, crannies and secret places so that they can get under the enemy and then swarm around them in a highly fiendish manner. They are at their most effective when they are close up to their foe and surrounding them in such a capacity. That they can scratch, gouge and pluck at their enemies with their long claws and jagged razor like teeth. What they lack in skill and tactical know how they more then adequately make up for in ferocity. However if they feel they are completely outnumbered they will retreat for very quickly.
They are good at finding dark secret places and can disappear very quickly and never be seen again. They have no real special military skills or prowess with weaponry, and their bodies are misshapen from skulking in subterranean depths and often erratic so an ordered military mode of battle is impossible for them. They are more chaotic in their mode of attack and use their skulking and lurking skills to maximum effect. They tend to move beneath the enemy through tunnels or under the earth or sand itself, depending of course, upon their geographical location at the time of the attack.
They find the element of surprise is their best tactic, as otherwise a military force would find it very easy to over power them. They like to be the first to surround the enemy during the battle and to get in close and utilise their dangerous claws and razor teeth to maximum effect and cause the most amount of damage possible in the quickest time possible. As their leaders are always fluctuating, sometimes on a day to day basis, they have no ordered government or military. If they are attacked they either defend themselves or they run away. They keep war very simple.
If they are in a war situation, they also do not have any preferred weapons. They do not own any swords or spears or axes, or any crafted weapons for that matter. They tend to use anything they find close by as weapons. Be that rocks, pieces of fallen trees or the skulls and bones of corpses sticking out of the ground. They prefer any way to use their claws and teeth. Their preferred reaction to war is to run away when possible.
Religion
They are a miserable clan who are consumed by guilt of the terrible things they have done in their lifetime. They generally wallow in self petty about the awful crimes they feel they have commited in order to maintain their survival over the years. They seek out dark places to skulk in as far away from the rest of civilisation as possible as they believe this is all the deserve. They are atheists and nihilists. Their existences have no value as far as they are concerned and life itself has no meaning. They are constantly in physical pain so this cements their opinion that life is unfair and meaningless.
They have no priests and see the idea of religious gatherings as a form of brainwashing. They do gather together and speak of times long one by in an effort to understand who they are and what their own individual society really means, but they often end up arguing about how things really happened as none of them can agree upon the truth of their past as their memories are very foggy on account of the fact that they live their own existence almost as if they are in a fever or a hallucinatory trance. They mistrust any from the upper levels of the world and feel that they all want them destroyed.
They believe that one day a terrible religious force will take over the world and attempt to destroy the clan and others like them, who also are non believers. They think this war will be impossible to fight and destroy.
They wish to move deeper and deeper into the bowels of the world into the deepest darkest and dampest cavernous depths they can find, far away from any civilised people or religious thinkers, who they see as incredibly dangerous. There is always a darkness around them and they believe that they now live their existence within a black void which is always moving with them where ever they go.
They think they are being punished for horrendous things they did whilst they lived and now that are cursed by the plague of kin’toni . not only have they a deep addiction for blood of zu’aans but their bodies have become twisted and gnarled and they feel constant pain no matter what they do. Their main religious belief is that they have no beliefs. They believe in nothingness and constantly seek out dark places where they can concentrate on nothing and be nothing. They find peace in silence. Pain and suffering is all they know. They deserve nothing as they are cursed. The void of nothingness, ironically, is when they are most at peace.
They will sit in dark places together and experience the nothing as one, in a very close and comforting silence.
They have no religion or leaders as they do not wish to be controlled. They seek serenity with the nothingness that is their reality.
