History

Xiteke clan was formed several decades after the formation of Laika Kin'toni Clan. Xitekens are one of the two clans who despised the authority Laikans held. But their origin was not based on hatred but survival. As years passed and new clans started forming, kin'toni started to believe that they had to be in a clan to perish. But the competition to be in a clan was brutal. All the formed clans started to get more specific about who they want. They set out in search of kin'toni who had something to give in return to the clan like skills in weapons or brain. They never realized that the tale of a kin'toni was survival.

The transformation from a zu'aan to kin'toni is never easy. The pain that they have to endure is almost painful as cracking their 206 bones together. And yet most of them were not accepted by other kin'toni who already were in clans. Their own friends started treating them as trash once they got in a clan. Moreover, they needed to be in a clan to be recognized by the pure ones, which was very important for their existence. This agitated certain group of kin'toni, who decided to fight against this mistreatment and heartlessness. They started to realize that getting the approval from the Elders didn’t change any part of their lifestyle.

They still had to hunt and find shelter just like a new feedling. 7 decades after the Laikan clan’s formation, a fourth generation feedling named Mautian Traister, founded a tribe with less than 10 members who were rejected by other clans. They were wandering from one place to another in search of shelter when they met each other one by one. Thus, they started to move in groups from one place to other like nomads. Their clan started to get bigger and bigger which made it hard for them to walk around as a group. This made the group a threat to the Elders even though they didn’t mean any harm.

Nonetheless, the Elders wanted to wipe them out as they started questioning their authority indirectly. In consequence, the Elders deployed their military to find the new clan which ended in bloodshed. Most of the then Xitekens died except for a few kin'toni with Mautian. Ultimately Mautian took his last standing members far away from the inhabited land of Taerel to a desolate island farther in the South across the sea. They named the land Xitekar and their clan Xiteke. They lived in a constant fear of being hunted down by the Elders. Eventually, the fear died out. Very slowly but steadily they started to multiply in number.

Their tale was sung as songs by several zu'aan tribes too which resulted in zu'aan’ arrival to Xiteke. By then the Xiteke had taught their feedlings to only drink blood only from animals. This ensured the safety of zu'aan and sooner or later they too settled in Xiteke with the kin'toni. Thenceforth, they commenced to live harmoniously alongside each other.

Biology

Xitekans have been living in the island terrain for over 15 decades and thus gradually their body has got adapted to the salt breeze and heat. Their eyes have light green irises with white sclerae and horizontal slit pupil and their skin is tanned from the sun. They do have kin'toni who could apply for the Elder position with purple irises but are very rare. Being near the ocean, some had started to grow gills on the sides of their trunks. This enabled them to dive underwater and catch fishes for the rest of the clan. Some had started to show signs of flipper like feet but it is not completely evolved.

They do not have special senses like the Elders. But still being a kin'toni allows them to have a little more sensation than the zu'aan. Their only weakness is sunlight. The light particles tend to absorb the nutrients from their flesh and make them rot. Even a diminutive amount of light can affect them. This also prohibits them from staying out in day time unless they are completely covered. If affected for a long period of time, the rot tends to spread throughout their body. Nevertheless, Xitekans are very resistant to heat even though direct sunlight could be fatal for them.

kin'toni are not able to make their own off springs. They have libido like any other zu'aan but they become infertile from the moment they are turned into kin'toni. So their only means of reproduction is turning the zu'aan through their essence. If the zu'aan is not completely drained off blood and left to live then they can turn into a kin'toni, if they were otherwise unhealthy. As they lived among zu'aan who offered their blood to new feedlings willingly, everything was much easier for the Xitekan kin'toni. But only feedlings under 3 years are allowed to take zu'aan blood and they are always isolated from the rest of the zu'aan in an underground bunker.

The kin'toni above the age of 3 years are trained to survive with ocean creatures and the blood-root plant available on their soil. The essence is formed in the liver of the kin'toni which roll up into their mouth while feeding. It contains a toxic venom which can dilate the veins and arteries of the zu'aan thus giving them easy access to blood. It is also a kind of sedative which makes zu'aan to fall into a deep slumber when bitten. It is thus painless. Once they are left to live, the essence mixes with their remaining blood. This makes them hungry for blood and as they acquire more blood their body slowly starts to turn into that of a kin'toni.

The feedlings usually get the traits of their donor. But once in a while, they receive different traits like that of the Laika clan.

Culture

Being very far away from the other clans, Xitekans have their own culture and beliefs. Even though they have never formed a specific culture of their own, having kin'toni from different regions of Taerel had collectively made a diverse culture. They always tried to find mates within their own clan to keep every other clans away from them. They never let anything from their clan to go out of Xiteka whether it was a member or some goods. For Xitekans, the most important event was the day when they went in search of new members. Even though they lived with zu'aan, they never once forced them to join unless they wanted to.

Moreover, they also believed that it was important for a zu'aan to know the toil of a kin'toni, especially the excluded life Xitekan kin'toni. Every time, Xitekans left in search of kin'toni, which was once in five years, they made it a tradition to take zu'aan food with them to give to the new feedlings before they became a kin'toni. The biggest event for the rest of the clans is the Titling of new members of Laika clan. Every time a member stepped down from their position (if they die or retire) a new member is selected. The selection is done based on different criteria like their wit or strength based on the open seat.

But Xitekans never let any of their members to participate in the event or to apply. They always made it a rule to cast away anyone who wanted to join or apply to other clans. They were never allowed to return to the Xitekans. Just like many other kin'toni, another important event is the Coming of Age. According to The Paramount, the donor who gave rise to a new feedling is supposed to take care of him/her for the next five years. After five years, they are free to make their own decisions and move out. A kin'toni becomes an official civilian on the Coming of Age day. If the prerequisite conditions are applied, they can also apply for the Titling from that day.

But the Xitekans did not follow The Paramount. But they still took care of their feedlings like their unborn kids. The entire clan was supposed to take care of the feedlings together not just by their donor. This gave them more unity and loyalty towards each other. Most of the kin'toni clans held events on the full moon day to show their love to Aetius or the Moon God, Selene. But Xitekans celebrated the day of Tide Rise. Even though they did not worship the ocean, they still believed that the ocean had some unseen powers within it as they were never once found by the Elders or any other clans.

They believed that the ocean protected them by killing any intruders that came into the water looking for the Xitekans. The Elders had always tried to send their ambassador to Xitekar but never once they crossed the sea. Yet, the Xitekans were able to travel to the mainland of Taerel whenever they went in search of new feedlings.

Government

When the Laika clan had a very vivid government structure, the Xiteke clan does not have an exact government structure. The major decisions were always taken by vote of the Xitekans or by the Island Chief. The Island Chief was always a feedling from the Traister lineage. No one ever stood against the claim, more because the chief alone never took decisions. The main legal process used within the Laika clan to settle menial and criminal disputes was known as Mountation, in which the allegedly offending parties had to put their cases in front of the Warrior Panel. Anyone who commited an offence against the Laika clan wass seen as one of the biggest felonies.

Moreover, any dispute in other clans that was not able to be solved wass brought to the warriors of the Laika clan to make the final decisions. There was no appeal against the decision made by the panel. The Paramount was seen as the basic legal book to look upon in the Yaka-Varat kin'toni nation. The Xitekans did not have a rule book like the Laika clan where there were a set of rules to be abided. They always held councils together along with the members every week to take decisions. It always worked out for the Xitekans. Being in an environment with zu'aan always raised minor to major problems, more than once the feedling leaving the isolated bunker and ending up murdering zu'aan.

This steered the way to form a coalition between the Xitekans and zu'aan where they had to agree on not trespassing each other’s land to keep both their species alive in the island. Even though the Xitekans lacked a government system, the zu'aan in Xitekar had a well-structured system and more than once they had helped the Xitekans to restore peace. The other clans in the had to pay taxes to the Laika clan but Xitekans never paid any taxes. It was one of the benefits of being away from the mainland. They even doubted whether the Elders knew about their clan.

Additionally, if there was any marriage between the Elders and other clan members after they become an Elder, then they had to exchange goods and finance to each other the entire time they were an Elder. This issue too never bothered the Xitekans as they kept their mate bonding within their own clan. All in all, the Xitekans were outright disrespecting the Elders with their claims and disobedience. It was never known whether the Elders knew about the Xitekans deeds, but they never took adverse actions against it or so they believed.

Military

Xitekans are like any other normal tribe. They do not have weaponry as advanced as the other clans. They also do not train their members like they are going to war next day. But they do give them basic archery training and defense training. But more than that they are very weak compared to the other clans. Moreover, they are weak in number too, which meant that they could not afford to lose kin'toni over fights. The zu'aan who came from cities, though very small in number, helped the kin'toni get a basic idea of what weaponry the other clans had. But they lacked the resources to build heavy weaponry like theirs.

All they could manage was to make bows and arrows using wood. They did try to sneak out one or two swords to the islands, but did not have the resources or knowledge to make them. What the Xitekans lacked in weapons, they adjusted with their barriers. They had built high barriers with the wood of coconut trees and mangroves. They also had built bunkers in case they were under threat and more than 30 kin'toni were always deployed on the island for security.

Religion

The kin'toni of Yaka-Varat have 3 religions mainly, Seleniasm, Primism and Aetiusm. Seleniasm is the religion where the kin'toni see the moon as their God. They do rituals and pray to moon. There are priests in some of the clans who believe that they can interact with the moon. They believe that the moon is a woman and they are her children. This also points out that they do not believe in the first kin'toni. Moreover, they completely disregard the fact that zu'aan created the kin'toni Primism is the religion when the kin'toni believe that the first kin'toni are their Gods.

They believe that the first ones have different powers like telekinesis and elemental manipulation. They also have a belief that someone among the kin'toni are going to receive those powers one day and that person will lead the kin'toni to rule Taerel by wiping out the zu'aan. Primisans tend to attack zu'aan blindly believing that they are supposed to be wiped out from the world. Even though Aetiusm was seen in other clans, most of them did not see Aetius as their God, but rather followed him ardently. Xitekans had no specific named religions. But they did believe that the ocean had its own consciousness.

They were more than once saved from intruders by the ocean. Clans near the ocean in mainland were advanced enough to have boats and ships. Even though they tried to reach Xitekar, one way or another they failed. This made some of the old Xitekans to think that the ocean was their protector and thus made a small community of female kin'toni who prayed to the ocean and gave the ocean offerings for its protection. But the community was not named, it was always just a group of females with a male once in a while and everyone was allowed to pray or give offerings. So eventually, it became a custom rather than a religious belief.
