Geography
Xaenthi Olivine Beach was named after the most common feature found in the region: the olivine rocks. These rocks are formed from minerals that were once buried beneath the ground. Somehow, the rocks became exposed and oxidized. This process created a plethora of clear green rocks that can be found all over the beach. Olivine is the official gemstone of the region. There is an abundance of the rocks, and when the zu’aan tribe had occupied the land, they were frequently incorporated into the architecture. The rock comes in many different shades of green: forest, lime, and sea foam to name a few.
The most common shade the rock is found in, however, is the forest green. Now that the Estera kin’toni clan inhabits the land, olivine is still incorporated into the architecture, just not as much as when the zu’aan had lived there. There is not a lot of geographical change in Xaenthi Olivine Beach, as it is really just a beach. The important features of the land are manmade. The oldest of these strictures had all been ransacked and succumbed to time. Those would be the old zu’aan structures. However, one of those structures still stands; the graveyard.
It was that last thing that the zu’aan tribe had built before leaving their homes in Xaenthi Olivine Beach. This graveyard stretches over a few miles, as the tribe was quite large at the time of their unfortunate deaths. Grand mausoleums were erected to commemorate the fallen zu’aan. These buildings were constructed from a pale grey stone. The front is fitted with four columns that mark the entrance. At the top of each of these pillars are giant olivine rocks that glitter under the moonlight. While beautiful, these structures mark a dark period in the region's past.
Now that the Estera kin’toni clan calls Xaenthi Olivine Beach home, they hav constructed many buildings of their own. These structures all have a gothic look to them, to match the doom and gloom vibe of the kin’toni clan that built them. To avoid disrupting the dead, the clan chose to build a little farther from the beach than the graveyard is. Many of these buildings dwarf the mausoleums that the zu’aan tribe had built. However, these buildings do not come close to the structures that the zu’aan tribe had constructed at their peak. Whatever ruins of the zu’aan structures remained were used to build up the kin’toni-made structures.
After the fate endured by the tribe, it is a shame that their buildings are still being looted. The dark past of Xaenthi Olivine Beach is well conveyed in the architecture and buildings that can be found throughout the region. The gemstone of the area might be a beautiful, glittery green, but the soul of the region was turned back. The kin’toni have, ironically enough, brought life back to Xaenthi Olivine Beach. New buildings pop up every now and again, showing that life does still exist in the area. However, the darkness remains.
Plants
Lots of flora and fauna exist in Xaenthi Olivine Beach. While the people that choose to live in the area have struggles, the plant life on Xaenthi is flourishing and thriving. Lots of large bushes are found in the area. They vary in species and height. Some grow to be over ten feet tall, while others only ever reach a maximum height of one foot. The color of the bushes mirrors the color of the olivine rocks that are sxeortered all throughout the area. Many of the bushes are home to the smaller creatures that inhabit the area. The leaves of the bushes all look relatively the same.
They are large 5 pointed leaves that bunch together to give the bush a full look to it. Trees are another common sight in Xaenthi Olivine Beach. Only two different species exist in the region, however. The first kind of tree is called the zu’aan tree. It was given that name by the Estera clan as those trees only grow in the graveyard built by the zu’aan. They would have named it after the tribe itself, but the name of them has been unfortunately lost to time. Zu’aan trees are large trees that have many thick branches grouped at the top. The trees have a decrepit look to them.
The bark on them appears old and is colored a light brown; it is also very flimsy bark. Even saplings share this old and decrepit look. Some say that the trees are mourning the zu’aan loss since the tribe never really got to mourn. They just commemorated their lost members. The trees add a scary atmosphere to the already gloomy graveyard. The other kind of tree that will be found in Xaenthi Olivine Beach is the Estera moss tree. These trees had always been native to the area, but when the kin’toni clan moved there, the trees began growing in abundance. So, the Estera promptly named the tree after themselves.
This tree is as grand as the zu’aan tree. It has large branches that begin towards the bottom of the trunk. On the branches are leaves that support the hanging moss. The moss that grows on the Estera tree hands down and touches the ground. The leaves and moss are a light greenish-blue and the bark is a warm-toned brown. The mossy trees add the spooky ambiance of Xaenthi Olivine Beach as the moss creates unsettling shapes in the dark of night. Adding to the darkness that covers the land is a poisonous berry bush. In the whole Xaenthi Olivine Beach region, the only fruit that grows is one that kills anything that consumes it.
The berry is black and grows on a red plant. A poison is sometimes made by the kin’toni clan from the berry to easily eliminate zu’aans without much labor needed. The poisonous berry bushes grow all throughout the region but are easily told apart from the other shrubbery that is found growing throughout Xaenthi Olivine Beach.
Animals
Despite the dark nature of the Xaenthi Olivine Beach region, lots of animals live and prosper in the area. One of these creatures is the galeovier shark. This marine animal is found off the shore. They are smaller sharks, so they choose to live in the reefs right off the beach. Galeovier have broad and flat heads that have snouts shorter than the width of their mouths. They also have slender bodies to top off being a smaller kind of their species. These sharks only grow to be about two feet in length. They are covered in a sand-paper-like skin that is striped.
The colors found on most galeovier are orange and black. They are a common sight in the coastal waters, but they seem to wish people no harm. When the zu’aan lived there, no reports of attacks were ever made. It is assumed that they are docile creatures, despite needing fish and meat to survive. Galeovier live rather long lives for small marine creatures: a total of 27 years on average. This creature is both a land and a sky dweller. The dalvi is a bird that can be found all over Taerel wherever death is present and common. When the pirates came and massacred the zu’aan tribe, dalvis began to appear in the absence of people.
These birds are fairly big, standing at over four feet tall. They have good eyesight so that they can spot any dead creatures and begin to feast on the carcass. To add to their good eyesight, these birds also have a great sense of smell to ensure that the creature they are consuming is in fact dead. They have heavily hunched over bodies with feathers that look matted and shaggy. Their feathers are larger in comparison to other birds that can be found in the region. The nest of these creatures is easy to spot, as they are pretty large in diameter. Some of the kin’toni seek out these nests to drain the baby dalvis of their blood.
Small feral xeors can be found all over Xaenthi Olivine Beach. These are the creatures that live in the thick bush that exists throughout the region. These xeors have all adopted a black fur coat. These coats are beautiful and soft. They have large green eyes that vary in shade; just like the olivine rocks native to the Xaenthi Olivine Beach region. Unlike some other species, these feral xeors are quite friendly, at least, to the kin’toni. Many of these small creatures have formed bonds with members of the Estera clan. They can be frequently seen hunting at night with the clan or raiding a dalvi's nest.
Normally, though, they are found sound asleep with the kin’toni that they have bonded with. Not all of these small creatures enjoy the presence of others, however. Many of these creatures hunt and live solo with no need for companionship. Those that live alone are frequently spotted napping in the shrubs found all over.
