Geography

Wyrra is on the Western side of its continent and is the Northmost region to contain the namesake Taiga. While relatively small in its original size, its borders were constantly expanding for a long period. The region is very similar to the Cersamhin Evergreen Taiga, though due to its more Northern location, its weather is harsher and more grueling during the frozen seasons. Sunny summer seasons rarely got above freezing, leaving the ground frozen a majority of the year, with only one extremely short month or so where the ground was thawed enough to allow new plant growth.

Unlike Cersamhin, the region was covered in hills of various sizes; some of the hills were large enough that they on the verge of being considered mountains. The forest in Wyrra coated the region evenly- the only break being in the city the Kelets used as their home. The city itself was made from stone. Each of the buildings had at least one fireplace for each room, the wood supplied from the surrounding forest as needed. It was not uncommon to find underground cellars built below or next to the respective building to store fire kindling or extra supplies for keeping warm.

Not that they Kelet needed them with their various pelts and layers beneath their armor. The city acted as a headquarters for the Kelet clan, the place where they would train, relax, or prepare for the next battles. There were rare times that leaders of the clans under the Kelet control were called to the city, so the supplies was kept for them during their say. The actual borders of the Wyrra Taiga Hills only measure at about a couple hundred acres in diameter. It majorly was considered a large region as there was an extremely large area around the Wyrra under its control; thus temporarily absorbing multiple territories.

Due to the Kelet’s clan taking over others, nearly the entire Northern region (Tundra, Taiga, and Mountain regions specifically) of the continent was considered as part of the Wyrra at one point. A large portion of this take over success was to the Kelet leader Taylek. Under her leadership, the region nearly quadrupled in a short period of time. The rapid expansion backfired though, as clans started revolting. The large size made it difficult for the Kelet to keep control of the farthest borders, so the Wyrra started shrinking as more and more clans regained their freedom from under the Kelet rule.

Those close to the immediate area of the Wyrra city launched attack after attack for years, leaving destruction in their wake to the forest and city structures. Over the years, the outer most edges of the city walls, as well as buildings fell to ruin. There were paths of demolished trees leading in the directions of various clans’ homes (which would actually prove useful later). After years, the leader Taylek was defeated. The clans took back their original borders, solidifying Wyrra back to the original borders they had decades before, before they started invading other clans.

The destroyed stone rubble was used to create the starts of roads in the paths created by the previous tree demolition, should the Kelet need to travel (or welcome travelers) for trade in the future.

Plants

The region is forested, but the trees grew sparsely due to the extreme weather of the region. The tightest compacted region of trees is along the Southern border of the territory, with it being the thinnest on the North border. That Northern quadrant is closer to Tundra type weather, with near constant snow, and high winds which makes it extremely hard if not impossible for new sprouts to survive long. Unlike with the animals, Wyrra only has one plant species in common with Cersamhin. A subspecies of the Wilspinara tree that’s been called the eriamathnrioa.

Like the wilspinara, the Ghost can grow to average about 700 feet tall, with hair and fur like strands that line and hang from the branches. Unlike the Cersamhin wilspinara, the eriamathnrioa hair and fur are translucent, and reflect light like an icicle would. When they die, they turn to a near mirror like finished silver color; and with its white bark, the tree more often than not seems like an apparition to those who see it. Some have thought that the eriamathnrioa had mystical properties, due to the fact that with the dead strands around the base, the tree seemed to create portals to another world.

A few who had seen the tree in person had saplings of the species brought to their home region- it became a popular superstition that those buried under the tree would be reborn into a new world with mystical powers. The eriamathnrioa only thrived in those areas as, without proper coloring to their hairs, they had no way to gather nutrients without relying on their roots. A Geriamathnrioa would only be able to grow where there’d been a dead body of some sort, as it absorbed the bones of the creature to grow. They continue to grow in Wyrrra due to the fact that most all the carnivorous species of creatures would eat at the base of one of the trees and leave the remains at the base of the trunk.

There was also a boom in growth during the years that Wyrra was constantly under invasion and attack, as there were constant bloody battlefields and numerous dead kin’toni. The rest of the plants in the region are of the ground cover variety which go dormant once there’s snow. During the frozen season, the eriamathnrioa is the only herbivore food source. When the snow thaws, and the other plants come out of their dormant state, the animals will consume as much as possible before the next freeze. This often leaves the ground rather sparse due to large amounts of plants being eaten in a short period.

There is a large variety of ground cover plants, ranging from: ‘Tiatet moss’ a moss like ground cover that the animal uses to coat wounds; ‘eriatita’ and ‘erhostita’ that grow at the base of the eriamathnrioa tree- the ‘eria’ being a bright deep red plant that has 4 leaf sprouts per stem, ‘erhos’ being bright blue near florescent small 7 petaled flowers; to Ithulu, sometimes called the ‘Green River’ as from a distance, with some wind the leaves replicate a running water motion.

Animals

Wyrra has many similar animals as Cersamhin, as both are upper regions in Taerel. The oroilltet is not located in the region, but a cousin species tiatet is. It is similar in most ways, except that being more of a ground hunter, its bones are not hollow and it has an added layer of fat to keep warm due to the harsher conditions of the region. One other difference is that, due to the limited food supply, the Tiatet is an omnivore. Its stomach is set up more in favor of processing meat, so in order to get the same nutrient levels the Tiatet would need to eat 2-5x more plants than meat.

While not ideal, it does allow the Tiatet to receive some kind of alternative sustenance during the harshest periods of winter. Vaarai- a small flying reptile species- also stop in Wyrra temporarily. Unlike in Cersamhin, they do not spread across the entire region. When they stop for their short period, they favor staying in the Southern most part of the region, as even at the warmest, the Northern areas of Wyrra are too cold for the Vaarai to stay for more than a few hours. They create their burrows in the trees, often returning to the same few trees as they aren’t as plentiful there.

If the Vaarai have young with them during that specific trip, they might even bully the current inhabitants of one of their previous burrows instead of creating a new one. Creating a new burrow with young is often too risky, as it takes two fully grown vaarai 3 full days to dig out a new burrow. If the season has been particularly harsh, a vaarai without a young- either because they lost it, or failed to have one that season- may allow the young vaarai to stay in their burrow while the parents dig a new one and act as a nanny or grandparent.

One of the most common creatures to get bullied by the vaarai parents is a field mouse like creature called a Titi. Its original name was lost over time, as they aren’t often seen and remain hidden, but those that have seen them call them ‘titi’ as when they run in a bouncing like manner, they make squeaks that sound like they are saying ‘tea’. They are extremely small, as long as the width of a hand- nose tip to end of the tail. Because of their small size, they travel in large groups of nearly 20 or more so that they can stay warm as well as to look larger in hopes of making predators avoid them.

A determined set of vaarai parents can bully the near 3 dozen titi out of the burrow, so they are forced to try and join another titi cluster; else they risk freezing to death as their nails are built purely for climbing and not digging. One of the creatures that is not in the Cersamhin region, is one similar to an elk. The bassumo is an extremely large herbivore mammal, with antlers that are strong enough to knock down trees. They tend to stick in the forested area of the region as they mainly eat the leaves of the trees as their meals.

Their hide is extremely thick, so it makes them difficult to hunt; a tiatet’s claws barely leave a scratch- which is perfect for the Kelets to use as a secondary armor under their armor. Bassumo can be extremely aggressive when provoked though, so the Kelets are usually forced to sneak attack them to kill shot them in either their eye or ear (the easiest accessible weak areas) or they risk having to damage the pelt to kill it. They get their name mainly due to their calls; a reverberating wail like sound (similar to interpretations of what a banshee sounds like), which sound similar to a whale like creature called a Bassu that frequents off the Western coast of Wyrra.
