Geography

When traveling the grand forest of Wlaic Old Taiga as well as the Vesia Dense Forest, many geographical similarities will be discovered. The most obvious similarities between the two are the trees. Since it really is all one forest, it makes sense that the forest would not change drastically just because some zu’aan split the forest up. Another similarity would be the animals that live in the forest, however, they are not really geographical features. Since Vesia is a part of a taiga, the trees that are found are huge, and geographical features all on their own.

The different species of trees in the forest are very interesting. Usually, in a forest only a select few of species grow, however, in this forest, so many different species grow that it begs the question of how they all got there. The forest has existed for so long that it is not unheard of for so many to have grown and become local to the area. Certain types of trees grow in specific parts of the forest. But for the most part, they are all intermingled with one another. Some caves exist in the area as well. It is unclear how they came to be, but they are interesting nonetheless.

The mouths of the caves are usually covered by a group of trees. They’re not very dangerous caves, and wondering into one isn’t the end of the world. Most of them just go into the ground a little but don’t really reveal much of the landscape. Unnatural geographical features can be found in the forest as well. These features are the homes and buildings built by the Utaie kin'toni clan that had taken over and separated Vesia from Wlaic Old Taiga. The Utaie clan makes all of their structures from the different wood types of the various trees that grow in the forest.

Most of the structures built are just regular small homes for the regular members of the clan. They try their best not to tear the forest down too much. However, some of the wealthy embers of the clan have mansions built. This deforests a decent part of the forest as they need to clear out a decent area to build the mansion, and then cut down any remaining trees to actually finish completing the mansion. Even though those wealthier clansmen do deforest part of the Vesia forest, the clan as a whole does their part to prevent too much deforesting from occurring. The mansions are actually quite beautiful structures.

Many different types of wood are utilized in their construction, and this creates a building with different textures and colors. The mansions add a lot of life to the forest. Other buildings are constructed from the trees, but again, not much deforesting occurs as a whole. Most of the Vesia part of the forest remains in tact despite a lot of construction done by the Utaie kin'toni clan. The homes and mansions alike really bring new life into the forest.

Plants

In both the Wlaic Old Taiga and the Vesia Dense Forest, many different types of trees exist. In fact, there are far too many trees to name. So many types that vary in height, color, and composition. Just one of these trees is the sap tree located just in the Vesia part of the forest. Utaie works hard to tap the trees to extract the sap of these trees and sell it to the other clans in the area. The leaves that adorn these trees are bright orange and three-pointed. The leaves are also quite large, with some of the bigger ones growing to be as big as a kin’toni palm.

This is just one of the trees that litter the vastness of the Vesia and Wlaic forest. A more local plant life that grows in Vesia Dense Forest is mushrooms. Lots of mushrooms grow throughout both the forests, but there are 3 specific kinds that grow mostly in Vesia Dense Forest. The first is called eentoki. Eentoki have a dark brown color, but when not exposed to light for long periods of time, they develop a whiter color. They have shiny and sticky caps and eentoki usually stands at about 6 inches tall. They also have spores that grow along with them.

They have a tendency to grow near tree bases and towards the entrance of caves so seeing white-colored eentoki is not uncommon. Eentoki can be consumed, and they make a rather delectable addition to any dish. Another type of mushroom that grows locally is the edulis mushroom. This mushroom prefers colder climates, and will always be found growing in the shade of cliffs or trees. Anywhere the sun doesn’t shine on it. This kind of fungus is able to grow berries, as the spores are large enough to produce them. Edulis has a circular cap and a short fat stem that extends from below it.

Fruit that grows from the edulis can only be produced when the spores on it have fully matured. The cap of an edulis is a few centimeters to a few inches in diameter. The largest recorded cap was a foot in diameter. These mushrooms are slightly sticky to touch and have a reddish color to them. The final type of mushroom that grows most prominently in the Vesia Dense Forest is the ostrea mushroom. This is the only type of mushroom to grow on a tree in the whole forest. The cap has an oyster shape. The color of an ostrea mushroom is normally either tan or white.

The rim of the cap is wavy and jagged, making it stick out against the bark of the tree that it grows on. Interestingly enough, this is the only type of mushroom in the forest to be carnivorous. It preys, as best as it can, on insects that land on it. This unusual mushroom is a must-see in the Vesia forest. It is a rather peculiar mushroom that grows in the forest.

Animals

A lot of the animal life in the area is shared by the Wlaic Old Taiga. It makes sense, as the two forests are essentially one, and only really differ in a few areas. One being name, and another, specifically, be the ire life in the area. The ires of Vesia forest are just that: ires of only Vesia Dense Forest. They form nests and hives on the tall trees that grow both in the Wlaic Old Taiga as well as Vesia Dense Forest. These ires are commonly referred to as Vesia ires. The Vesia ire is one that goes around the forest and pollinates the local flora and fauna, specifically the flora in the forest.

They construct large nests from wax that they harvested from the flora, and build large nests that sit at the top of the tall trees in the forest. There is a hierarchy amongst these ires, with one queen and the rest being worker ires. The honey produced by these ires is highly sought after by the Utaie. Another creature that lives in Vesia is the Wlaic yaertin. The Wlaic yaertin travels all throughout the Wlaic forest, Vesia included.

Many different types of yaertin exist throughout Taerel, the Wlaic, however, is one of the more docile ones. Wlaic yaertin are quite big, but not very dangerous. They stand about 10 feet tall when on their hind legs, standing all the way up. They have dark brown fur that makes up a thick coat. Utaie will hunt the Wlaic yaertin as its pelt is thick and provides them with a lot of warmth and protection. They are also so large that they provide the Utaie with plenty of food, so hunting them frequently is not necessary. On this particular yaertin is a hump on its back.

This distinguishes them from other yaertin that exist throughout Taerel. During the winter, Wlaic yaertin have a tendency to hibernate and spend many months hiding in caves that litter the landscape. When preparing for this time, the yeti will consume lots of food. Their diet consists mainly of the smaller woodland creatures. However, they are omnivores and will seek out the honey that the Vesia ires produced. Because of this, most of the Wlaic yaertin population has migrated to living mostly in the Vesia Dense Forest. One of the sky dwellers of the forest is the murkion bird.

This bird dominates the skin above Vesia Dense Forest and Wlaic Old Taiga. Murkion feeds mostly on the fish that can be found in the streams that cut through the forest. These birds have dark-colored bodies, usually dark brown or black, and white heads. They produce a stark image in the sky. They make their nests by the ires; high up on the trees of the forest. They are covered head to toe in soft feathers. Murkion have large wings that adorn the sides of their medium-sized bodies. To see a murkion is to be blessed by the skies.
