Swutonsul Kin'toni Clan
History
The history of the Swutonsul clan spans back decades. While they were a clan that prided themselves on how nice they were to each other, they were quite rude to other clans, especially when they knew that the other clans were laughing at them or making fun of them. The Swutonsul clan were quick with their answer and would typically engage in fighting with other clans, as that was how they were used to living their lives. They were used to having to fight to get what they wanted, and the leaders they had showed no intention of stopping that behaviour.
When they moved to Inekim Ice peaks, the cold, frigid air there made it so that they couldn’t leave their homes without many layers of protective clothing for fear that they would freeze to death. That was when they came up with the idea to make a robe that covered them from the neck down, that would keep them warm. They would wear regular clothes under their robes as well, as an extra layer of protection, and they would make sure that the tasks that they were doing outside didn’t take longer than a couple of minutes so that they wouldn’t rick freezing.
The robes that the clan wore, were symbolic of their position within the clan. Men would wear blue, women wore red. The members of the government would wear yellow and green robes that also had their gender-based colours on them as well. Religious officials would wear black and white robes with no gender colour, and the members of the military would wear orange robes.
The members of the military were the only ones that were allowed to take their robes off as they would have to wear their armour, and the robes were not designed with the movement for fighting in mind.
While the military was out for battle they would be able to wear whichever clothing they felt they needed to so that they could stay warm and be protected as well. But as soon as they were back at the clan they were required to don their robes once again. This colour code was in place as it was hard for them to tell the members apart from a distance. Their eyesight wasn’t the best and so the colour of the robed made it easier for them to be able to see from a distance.
The Swutonsul clan had always been very religious. They followed their religion everywhere they went, and while they liked that they had such good routines that they would follow, they would try and push their beliefs on other people, believing that they should convert to their religion, instead of living in sin as they would say. The problem with this was that they would be rude and would insult the other clans, leading to battles and large fights, instead of being able to convert the other clan members to their religion.
Rather than trying again, they would shun the other clans, blaming them for the battle as they believed that they were innocent.
Psychology
It was known well that while the Swutonsul clan were not the smartest. They were very good at inventing things that they needed, although they didn’t like newer technology unless they couldn’t avoid it, they weren’t the best at figuring out social cues or interpreting sarcasm. Because of this, they would frequently get into trouble with other clans, insisting that they were trying to make fun of them, and the Swutonsul clan would try to start fights with them. While they knew they weren’t the smartest kin’toni out there, they knew that they were able to fight quite well, and so they would offer to do so every chance they got, figuring that it would make them seem more intimidating.
Because of how driven they were by their religion that everything they did was in the belief that they were following their religion. They would make their choices under the belief that their god would approve of what they were doing, and so they would carry on with it, making it as though they were acting in their god's best interest when it only seemed as though they were acting in their own best interest. While they were very religiously inclined, they would do their best to act as though they were a huge family within their clan. They would spend their time together and would talk to each other nicely throughout the day.
While there were punishments that would happen for the members that wouldn’t be following their religion as well as they should be, as soon as their punishments were over, they would go back to being friends and family-like with each other. Many of them didn’t like the way the punishments were, as many of them were physical and humiliating, but they were put into place by the government, so they would have no choice but to follow them, or risk having the same punishment done to them.
There were many fear tactics within the clan, each of them put into place by the government and the religious leaders so that they would all follow the religion no matter what, or they would be punished and would be used as an example for the rest of the clan. This was something that worked frequently, as the clan members didn’t like being punished in public. So the government would threaten more punishments if they thought that they would need more of a reason to get the clan to comply.
The government was mad with their power, wanting to always ensure that their members were following their rule, and they had the religious leaders in on it too, making sure they all were on the same page of scarring their members into listening to their laws. Each of the things that the Swutonsul clan did was for a reason, and that reason was usually that they were following their religion, and in doing so, were remaining pure and holy.
Biology
The Swutonsul clan were very lean and tall kin’toni. They knew how to accommodate their height with their clothing, as well as ensure they were able to be comfortable. Because of their height, they were able to run faster, their long legs being able to push them forward, and they used this as an advantage to get out of their cold climate quicker. Since they were able to travel faster, they would spend most of their time running to where they needed to go. They would make sure to secure their packs to them so that while they were running, they wouldn’t have to worry about them falling off, and they would take off, running as fast as their legs would take them.
This was something they were very proud of being able to do, and many of them would spend their time practicing their running when they had the time to, as they would always want to keep in shape. When one member would go out so that they could start running, the other members would join if they could, so they were able to run together. This was something that they would do often, and it was common with their clan members. Because they would run, they had managed to work on their stamina, and so they would be able to run to where they needed to go without having to stop and take breaks.
Sadly, there were other clans that would laugh as they would see them running, and they would be made fun of, so the Swutonsul clan would start to walk as they would get closer to the clan that they were going to visit, they would slow down so that they were walking. This would ensure that they weren't being made fun of, even if it took them longer to get where they were going. Because of their stamina, and their need to be running, the Swutonsul clan had significant muscles in their legs and torso from all of the running. They were proud of their bodies, as they knew that their muscles were from their hard work.
When they would go into warmer climates, they would open their robes so that the other clans could see their muscles, and they hoped that in doing do, they would be able to fend off the laughter and jokes that would come from them running around. Their eyes were a light grey colour, caused by the cold wind where they lived. The wind had seemingly wiped the colour out of their eyes, and so they were left grey. From a distance, it looked as though their eyes were completely white and without colour, but the closer they got, the more colour that could be seen there
They didn’t like their eyes, but they were able to use them as a way to intimidate other kin’toni. This made it so that they were able to seem more intimidating, as they would act as though they weren't able to see and so they would be able to see if other clans were lying to them
Culture
Culturally, the Swutonsul clan was a friendly clan. They were more friendly to their own clan, as they all acted as though they were a big family. Many of the members wouldn’t go anywhere without at least one of the other members going with them. As well, they were a very social clan, and so they would spend most of their time talking while they were working or spending time in their homes. It was apparent that they would usually always be talking, as this was something that they needed to do. Talking was their way of ignoring that they were cold when they were working outside.
As the more they would talk and joke, the harder it would be for them to complain that they were cold. As well, making jokes and having a good time would make it easier for the time to pass, and soon enough they would be back inside where they could get warm. Many of the things that the clan had built themselves off of them were religiously based. They lived their lives wanting to make sure that they were following their god as closely as they could. Because of this, they would have to pray multiple times a day, and they would do so to thank their god, ask him questions, and ensure that they were doing right by him.
Since they had this need to be constantly pleasing their god, they would spend most of their days talking to him and waiting for signs that they were doing the right thing or making the right choices. As time had gone on, and the weather had gotten colder outside, the members of the Swutonsul clan had started to group together in houses for warmth. They had started to heat their houses with wood, but because of the lack of trees that would grow in the cold, they had to cramp together into houses with their peers so that the wood would last longer for them.
They would ask for trades of wood, or other objects that they could burn, and while there were some clans would oblige their request, they wouldn’t be able to rely on these clans to provide them with wood consistently, so they would have to make what they had last. Sometimes they would break down houses that they weren't using so they would have more wood when the snow and cold got too harsh for them to leave, and other times they wouldn’t have to make fires as often as the weather would become more bearable. There were many things that would influence their need to make a fire, and so they were never able to tell how long their wood would last.
When they did make fires, they would all cuddle together around them so that they could get warm, and while they were there they would talk, pray, and play games to pass the time.
Government
As it had been stated previously, the Swutonsul clan were deeply set into their laws and their ways. Many of their laws had to do with keeping their government the same as well as ensuring that their religion would remain intact. There were many instances that the Swutonsul clan would choose their religion over their government, and so the leaders of both the government and the leaders of their religion had decided that they would make the religion law, and the laws about religion. This meant that they were heavily tied together, and that there was no confusion about which laws meant what.
Because of the correlation between their laws and their religion, the leaders had started to get mad with the power they held. Anything they would put into law, they would say was told to them by their god, and so the members of the clan would have to follow it. The members of the clan weren’t allowed to complain about their laws or they would end up being excommunicated for months at a time. This would mean that they would have to live in a house by themselves, and they would have to go and hunt for themselves, and they wouldn’t be answered if they tried to talk to any of the other clan members.
This was something that the clan didn’t like to do as they were so much like a family that not talking to someone was hard for them. They would have to do their best to act as though that member didn’t exist, and eventually, once the member was let back into the clan, they would flock to them and tell them how back they felt.Because of how common the punishments were, there were many instances where members of the clan didn’t know that someone was being excommunicated, and so they would end up talking to them and that would lead to them having the same punishment.
The more this happened, the more the leaders of the clan would revel in it because they knew that the other clan members would learn to tell if that member was being shunned or not. Since the leaders were so thick with their power, they decided that they would be above the law, and that they would be the only ones that were allowed to break the laws. They would so this when they felt the need to, as opposed to whenever they wanted to, and this helped the other members of the clan to believe that there were times when the leaders would act in the best interest of the clan.
There were leaders that weren’t as hungry with power as others were, and these were the ones that the clan would trust more, believing that they would be safer trusting them instead of the more corrupt leaders. While this would usually get them what they wanted, the leaders would still go back and tell the others what they had learned, and so they would be able to change their laws.
Military
Because of the way the government was, there were many times when they would request more members join the military. This was also because of they way that the Swutonsul clan would challenge other clans on a whim. It seemed as though they would try and fight each clan they met if they thought they had to. Their lack of intelligence and inability to read social cues made it so that they would think they were being made fun of when there was a joke being said. As well, they would think that they weren’t welcome somewhere when the other clans were busy with chores or tasks when they showed up.
Each of these things would cause the leaders of the government to offer to fight the other clans, and sometimes, they would end up losing their members in the battles as the other clans were stronger than them. When they would lose their members in the battles, the leaders would urge more members to join so that they would have more strength in numbers, and they would be able to replace the members that had passed away. The military had orange coloured robes that they would wear when they weren’t going out for battle, and they would be allowed to take those robes off in favour of something more comfortable to wear under their armour when they would have to go and fight.
They were allowed to choose anything that they wanted to wear, so long as they were able to move well with their armour on top of it. They wore a thick leather armour for battle, this being because they didn’t want to wear any sort of metal armour, and they would use bows with arrows and daggers as their weapons of choice. Each would be equipped with a small circular shield that they could use when they were fighting close combat, but usually they would try and stick with ranged attacks to keep their members alive. Even though they would enter into the battles because they had been offended.
They were able to keep treaties and trade routes after the battles had ended. This was usually because the other clans would understand that the Swutonsul clan didn’t know how to read social cues, and would thus end up offering to fight. When the members of the military were back at the clan village, they would do what they could to make sure that no only were they running to keep up their stamina, but that they were training with other members of the military to make sure that they were able to fight well when they did have to go into battle.
They would fight each other with their daggers and their bows with arrows so that they could work on their aim and making sure they were able to keep up. Most of them would wear their armour as well to make sure they wouldn’t be injured while they were training.
Religion
The Swutonsul clan had always been deeply religious. They were a clan that prided themselves on following their religion as closely as they could, and they had even gotten to the point where they had writing their religion into law. They had decided that they would make it so that their laws and their religion were one and the same thing, and that was something that caused many issues within the clan. The amount of laws and religious beliefs that were intertwined were enough that there were times when the members of the clans were confused about their laws, and that would lead to more punishments.
The members of the Swutonsul clan would have to pray between 4 and 6 times each day. They would pray at meal times, as well as when they would need guidance for anything that they were doing. They believed that they had a very close relationship with the god that they called just that, god. There was no set name for him, as they believed that he didn’t have one. As well, they believed that they didn’t need to know his name if he did have one, and so they would just call him god when they would pray to him.
Many of the times they would pray for guidance, they would wait for a sign that they were making the right choice. Their answer would usually come to them in the form of a coincidence, but they would believe that this was their sign, and that it would be good or bad depending on the question that they had asked. Other then praying many times each day, the clan had extensive punishments for when they weren’t performing within the religion as they should be. There was the excommunication that would happen when they weren’t praying as much as they should be, and it would last from a week to a year depending on how much they were neglecting their religion.
The other members of the clan would not be allowed to talk to them, and they would have to do everything for themselves, essentially living as a rogue in their own clan until their leaders decided that they were to be allowed back into the clan. Another punishment that would happen after being excommunicated multiple times, would be lashings. The leaders of the government would take the member outside on a warmer day and would lash the back of the member in public so that the other members of the clan could see. As soon as the punishment was done, they would receive medical attention and would be allowed to heal before having to go back to their usual duties.
The final punishment was stoning. This would happen when the other punishments wouldn’t work, and it would be done with the intent to kill the member. They would be tied to a stake in the middle of the village, and members were urged to throw rocks or even chunks of ice at the member until they passed away. This was an extreme punishment, and not one that would be done often.
