Perydel City Zu'aan

History

In the heart of the Cheton forest thicket lies a new city formed by citizens that have escaped the persecution of their home city. Created and formed by Perydel Wittle, the city with the same name was established deep in the heart of the forest. It started out small with Perydel’s wife, Magnera and their three daughters with their husbands and 8 grandchildren. The story goes that farmer and animal raiser Perydel and his sons were maintaining their farm in the city of Rinud when the cold war struck. All the men of the city were called upon to come and fight in the war or… die.

Perydel refused and instead he packed his things and his family and they left the city. They were the only men along with some other deserters that survived the cold war to help care for their families. The rest of the men perished and passed away leaving their families to face life on their own. Needless to say, Perydel survived with his family and went on to create a strong hold and a city in the heart of the forest. He began to clear the land and work on creating a farm where he could grow crops and raise animals. People who joined the city were taught to farm as well so that they could create their own farms and produce crops for their families.

When Perydel died, the city had become so large that they named it after him in commemoration of his hard work and kindness toward strangers. The next generation began to form warriors like a military to defend the city and the generation after that developed a government. The generation that followed this one, began to send traders out that would take fresh produce to cities around the forest and trade with them for things like clothing or weapons or stone. The city began to build walls from the stone they collected and they began to train with the weapons they traded for.

So the city became strong enough to defend themselves against attack. Because the city is in the middle of the forest, it is not often found by many strangers and that suits the Perydelians very well. Though they are kind people willing to help, they also understand that anyone could become the downfall of the city. They listen to the tales of strangers that they do come across and the stories that traders bring back about raiders and the kin’toni. Sometimes they even lose their caravans and lives due to the cruelty of strangers. That’s exactly why they tend to avoid those situations as a whole.

They have come to an understanding that not everyone is as kind as they are and that they need to become more wary. Over the years Perydel has become a city that is self standing as well as a city that many others rely on for its ability to produce food for others. The strength of the city lays in its people and it will become more profitable and powerful with each generation.

Psychology

The people of Perydel are down to earth farming types that have learned to live off the land that the forest provided them. They also took control of the forest around them with the help of scouts and towers placed in strategic positions. This made them feel safer and better protected. They prefer the simple life of farming over the dangers of war and raiding. They are family orientated and follow the god of farming so they are also taught to respect nature. Their most valued possessions are their animals and they would do anything to protect and care for their animals.

They are not afraid to fight for their city and to keep it safe but they are known to avoid conflict. They are hard working, dedicated people that are willing to help a complete stranger when they are called upon to do so. They care a great deal about nature and wish to protect it. That is why they have become the protectors of the forest. They are constantly pushing their force down on strangers who enter the forest and will often escort those strangers back to the city in order to see what those strangers are really about. Through a set of delicately placed tests, the stranger will be given various calls to reaction.

Based on the individual’s reactions, they will decide whether to let the stranger stay or they will send that stranger off without a second word, escorting them blindfolded to the edge of the forest so that they will not be able to find their way back to the city. This is how they have come to develop strategies to protect the city and the forest. They know that the forest gives them what they need every day and so they have a duty to give back to the forest by way of protecting it from harm. That is why they have developed the earliest form of a psychological test to do some psychological profiling and it hasn’t failed them yet.

The city is stronger now than it has ever been and that is mainly because they often keep to their area and defend it very well. They are unique in every way since not many of the other cities have learned to be self reliant. Most of the other cities will avoid contact with the outside world but at the detriment to themselves whereas Perydel does not need the outside world for anything much really.

They have learned skills to defend themselves and have learned how to make many other cities reliant on them for food and produce. That way the other cities have an invested interest in making sure that Perydel is a city that is secure and protected because they rely on the city so much. Perydel has made alliances and that will help them during the future. Apart from this they are also constantly developing new ways to further their city and the way they farm their land which gives them added security for the future of the city.

Culture

The culture of the city is mainly a culture of farmers. They care about the land and have a great respect for nature. Their animals are some of the most important things in their lives and they treat their animals like treasured pets despite the fact that some of them are slaughtered for their meat and hide and various other things. As far as the city is concerned, they believe in family and farm. Many of the citizens belong to big families who married into other big families. It would be hard to find a family who isn’t completely intertwined with all the other big families.

The god that they follow is the god of agriculture which means that he is also in charge of harvest, sowing and storing. They have a festival for all of these activities in agriculture. During the harvest festival is when the families exchange food, holding a grand feast in the center of town to celebrate the harvest. The tables are often decked with all sorts of foods.

The next festival is the spring festival. This is the time when people share gifts of seeds or saplings they have prepared over the year past. They will share this during a big festival and this is often the day that couples marry one another to produce a new family.

This is a day when flowers are presented to the married couple and the new season of sowing seeds for the coming harvest are planted. The last festival is held during the beginning of winter. This is when everyone prepares their last feast and gives thanks for the year gone by. They thank their god for the produce that was given to them and they make preparation for the coming cold winter months. Meat is cured and preserved. Vegetables and fruits are cooked and put in a sugar mix to preserve it and wheat is ground to make flour so that bread can be made during the winter months to sustain the city.

The city’s culture is very vibrant and interesting. It’s one of the few cities that still holds onto their culture and their religion quite firmly. The other thing the city has is a very homely atmosphere. The people here are very family oriented. They respect elders and discipline children. They take pride in their homes and their lands. They are hard working people with religious piousness. This is one of the main reasons that their military is so strong. Every single member of the military has something to fight for. That something is family.

They will fight to the death for their family and they believe in their family. The people are educated about the land as well as living off it. They know how to preserve food and when to grow crops. They know what each plant needs to thrive and they pass their knowledge down through the generations. The city of Perydel will ensure that their culture and their people stay alive for generations to come.

Government

Perydel’s government is a newly established one. It consists of a number of elders that have gathered together from the most established families in the city. They take into account the city and how it is run in order to provide solutions to problems that the city faces. They will hold council meetings every week and hear people’s complaints if there are any. They will then attempt to provide solutions for those problems in order to keep the city running smoothly. One of the most important topics that the council discusses is the alliances with other cities.

If the alliance is threatened in any way, the government will discuss cutting ties with that city. Every single city is on a very tenuous path with Perydel and any wrong action could see that city without the fresh produce that Perydel can provide for them. The government knows that they have the power and monopoly over many of the resources and they will use that to their advantage to obtain the most profitable alliances in the empire. The government also runs the military and they decide who is best suited to go on scouting outings.

There are both men and women in the government and each brings their own unique perspective on things. It is the perfect balance of perspectives. With this balance it would mean that the city is safe and governed properly. Over the years with the new government in place,there had been a good reform to the structure and running of the city as a whole. It is important for the city to have a strong government that can lead the way to a brighter and more prosperous future.

The fact that the government was in place to help build the city walls and helped with the construction of many other buildings in and around the city was one key factor in allowing the citizens to put their trust in the government. Because the government is made up of elders who have lived their lives and know the city well, with a wealth of experience and knowledge to give their city the best chance of survival. They have experience in dealing with the citizens and the knowledge to know how to solve problems. The government here has learned from experience how to better the city.

The city has grown immensely since its first conception. It now has everything it needs to face any hardship that comes their way. They have built a city that can stand the test of time. It is self established and can weather the storms that are coming its way. This is all thanks to sound leadership. If one elder passes away or becomes unable to take on the responsibility of being in the government, another elder will take their place. The elders are selected based on a vote by the remaining council members so that everyone has a sound understanding of what they expect from their new and latest member.

The city is thriving because of the well designed government control.

Military

The military, like the government, is made up of men and women that are able to carry a weapon and fight. Those that want to join the military can join at any age and are then trained in fighting tactics that help them understand how to be the best at taking care of the city. It is important to the military generals to have the best possible individuals for the task and the training which is why recruits are put through strenuous tasks to prove their worth. The city is mainly known for its agriculture which so it’s often thought that the city would not have a worthy defense or military but that all changed when the government took position in the city.

They were the ones who insisted on a structured military. A stranger who’d been a general in a city he deserted was the one to help bring the military to its full potential. He began to recruit men and women as well as teenagers and started training them in combat as well as the use of various different weapons that the traders have managed to collect.

The military of Perydel might be small but they are efficient in every single way. They train for many years. The most important topic of training is how to make a quick and painless kill. They have used these tactics to hunt too so that they know what it is like to take a life. The Perydelians believe that whether an animal or human, their lives are the same price. They live in the knowledge of the circle of life, knowing that some need to die and other’s need to live. That is why the military has taught their recruits that the price of the life of their enemy means that they will be purchasing countless lives of their own people.

The more enemies killed, the more of their own people will be saved. What makes Perydel’s military so dangerous is the fact that they understand and even accept death. They have a healthy relationship with death. There is no fear of dying. The fact that they accept death makes them vastly stronger and more determined fighters. They will go to extremes to fight their enemies. They have never been put in a state of war because they are mostly safe in their forest and they have been protected in their city. It is also a very new city so they are unknown to the vast majority of the empire except for those that they trade with and those that rely on them for food.

The general that has been training their military and growing the city’s defenses has dedicated his life to making the city strong. This was a gift sent from the gods for the people of the city and they rely heavily on the general’s guidance. He has the most control in the city and enjoys a lot of power that other citizens might not have but he has an invested interest in the city’s safety so would never use the power he was given against his beloved city.

Religion

The religion in the city is mainly based around the god of agriculture called Ozark. He is a hard working god that teaches his followers the value of labor. He doesn’t demand sacrifices or festivals in his honor. He just demands that people are kind to nature and protect and respect it. Children are taught from a young age to never mistreat animals or pluck anything that is not ready to be taken. The older children are encouraged to take part in farm work and taking care of the animals as well as scouting in the forest for edibles and herbs that can be used as medicine.

Whatever is taken from the forest is paid for with something else. If a herb is taken, a seed is planted to grow into a flower or tree. If an animal is slaughtered, hay, wheat or part of the animal is left for the others still in the forest. They have always believed in fair trade. Even with nature. They are honor bound to follow their religious beliefs since this is what keeps them alive for the most part. They will religiously pray every day and each household has a praying room full of offerings to their god though he’s never demanded anything from them.

He is a kind god that has taught his people the ways of farming and encouraged them to take care of his land. The prophets of Ozark often have stories of Ozark appearing as a man to help a farmer with a task that he is not able to accomplish on his own and through these sacred stories handed down from generation to generation, the people have come to learn all about how to farm the right way and what to do to get the best crops. There are also a few stories about how Ozark found the goddess of trenches and together they learned to help each other with their own unique skills which they then taught to the farmers that became their followers.

Ozark and his Goddess encouraged gender equality allowing men and women to be equal in everything. The religion teaches that both men and women can do one another’s jobs. Men and women are equally responsible for raising children and manning the farm. In fact, women are also allowed to go hunt, gather, scout and join the military. This is a part of their culture and their religion. Discrimination and controlling behavior is not tolerated in the community. Ozark does not punish his followers and there are no consequences to doing something wrong.

Yet, because of Ozark’s teachings, his people will never attempt to hurt one another, no matter whether there are consequences or not. They are taught to be a close knit community and city working for the betterment of the natural world. The natural cycle of nature is what they choose to promote within the community. The city and the religion promotes the following of the cycle of life so consequences are part of the natural order of things and that is why they honor nature.
