History

The Nyale kin’toni clan was once a fruitful clan. While they lived within Inawar Barren Lands, they had found ways to ensure that they were taken care of and had everything they needed to survive. What they didn't anticipate happening was the kin'toni virus. The infection wiped through their village and caused mania in the adults, driving them wild. Many of them either left, or went after others, killing them off before killing themselves as a release from the hallucinations they were having. The children, being young enough, didn't experience these hallucinations or mania, but instead were stuck watching their parents die or run away from them.

After all of the adults had left, the children were stuck in the village not knowing what to do or who to turn to. They didn't understand what had happened, that they were now different, and this confused them. When they tried to seek help from surrounding villages, they were met with angry zu’aan that wanted nothing to do with them, and would try to kill them as soon as they knew that they were kin’toni. This confused the children even more as they didn't understand why they were so hated when all they wanted was to ask for help.

As time passed, a few other kin’toni clans heard of the clan of orphaned children and they decided to help them. They started bringing the children of the Nyale clan goods that they could spare from their own villages so that they could make sure that they had everything they needed. Sometimes, the other clans would bring the Nyale kin’toni some fresh blood to sustain them, as many of the younger children weren't able to go out and hunt, and the older children weren't too good at it themselves, and would only bring back enough for a few of them.

These other clans frequently took the older kids hunting to teach them new ways, and would have them take back blood for their clan members, ensuring that everyone had enough to sustain them. Eventually, the children of the Nyale clan grew so used to having no adults, that they would spend their days doing as they pleased, knowing that they didn't have to do much but be children and enjoy themselves. The older children eventually would wait to see if the infection would cause mania within them as they got older, and if it did, they would leave the clan early on so that they didn't hurt any of their friends.

They would be sent away with some materials that they could use to make temporary shelter, and they would essentially be cursed to wander the Inawar Barren Lands until they passed away. This would ensure the clans safety, even though they were slowly dying off from the infection. The other clans would help the older children leave once they became adults and succumbed to the infection, allowing them to have a quick getaway, and allowing them to keep the rest of the clan as safe as they can.

Psychology

Because of how young the members of the clan are, many of them hadn't even finished school before the Awakening happened. This meant that many of them relied on the older members for the knowledge they needed to survive. Initially, the Nyale kin’toni clan had no idea that they were kin’toni. They had watched their parents and all of the adults go mad and kill each other or themselves, and some had run away, but they didn't have the chance to learn what the infection had done to their bodies.

They understood that they were no longer able to eat zu’aan food, it made them sick once they did, but they didn't understand that they needed to consume blood until another clan of kin’toni found them and explained everything to them. The children were shown how to hunt, but it wasn't something that came easily to them because of how small and young many of them were. They would become easily frustrated when they couldn't do what was asked of them, and they would give up quickly. Many of the children would end up starving and dying because they lacked the skills to properly survive.

Even before the infection, the Nyale kin’toni clan was one of average intelligence. They would attend school from 6 until 20 and then they would go off to work for many years. After the infection ravaged their clan, it left the children with a decreased intelligence over time. As they would get older, the infection would progress inside of their minds and slowly cause them to go mad as the adults had before. They learned to anticipate the infection causing them to go mad as they turned into adults, and would keep an eye on any rising symptoms so that they could leave the clan to ensure that the rest of them were as safe as they could be.

As soon as they suspected that the mania was setting in, meaning they were showing more signs of it, they would wait until a new shipment of goods would come from one of the other clans, and they would leave with them and a few items of their choosing. The other clan would make sure they had a small supply of blood, and some supplies to build a small shelter, and then they would send the Nyale kin’toni on their way to wander out in the Barren Lands for the rest of their lives. They held the belief that there was no cure for their mania, that it would only get worse.

So they didn't allow anyone to try and help them, and they would instead prepare themselves to leave their clan to wander. This caused a lot of anxiety within the older members of the clan as they weren't able to retain the information that they needed to survive on their own. Instead they would leave their clan and not know what they were supposed to do, but they hadn't wanted to ask for help before they left, thinking they should have to take on life by themselves.

Biology

Because of their young age, the Nyale clan held a beauty that many other clans did not. They had oval faces, so round that it seemed they didn't have any imperfections. Their skin was smooth and untouched from their young age that it would almost glow when the moonlight touched it. During the day their skin was also quite light, even though they would be out in the sun for many hours. It seemed that the infection caused their skin to remain light no matter how much time they spent outside, much to their dismay. They all wanted to tan even though they couldn't, but that didn't stop them from trying.

Many of them would end their days with sun burns, but none of them would have a tan. Their eyes consisted of different colours, one eye being blue, and the other being green. The only difference was that some of them had green and then blue, and some had blue and then green. There was no cause or pattern to this, just that some of them had reversed eyes than the others. Sometimes there would be a child turned with each eye having both green and blue, but that was the only difference between them. The children were naturally small and lean, their muscles sinewy as they had never really worked hard labour before.

This didn't change much as they got older as they would still spend most of their time playing, and not overly lifting anything heavy. Even when they would leave once the mania set in, they still didn't have much body fat. This was also caused by not being able to hunt well and thus eating less than they should be. This made it hard for them to gain weight, and left them weaker than even other average kin’toni children. One thing that they had going for them due to their small size was that they were faster than other kin’toni children.

Because they didn't have to carry around so much extra weight, they were able to be faster on their feet when they were running, and they were more agile. This should have helped them when they were hunting, making it easier to catch their prey, but they would frequently run out of stamina before they were able to secure their prey. As well as that, they weren't able to hold down the prey that they did catch because their lack of muscles caused them to have less strength than they should have. They would frequently go without eating which would cause them to lose even more weight, and many of them would pass away because of this.

It was also hard for them to retain body heat since they didn't have much fat on their bodies so they would have to huddle together for warmth at night. They would have to be in groups of at least 4 with blankets so that they had enough warmth to make it through the night.

Culture

The Nyale kin’toni clan was a lost clan after the Awakening happened. They didn't have many things that they did, and they had even less to look forward to. There was a lot that their parents used to believe, but not a lot was passed to the children since many of them were too young to understand or remember what it is they were supposed to be doing. Before their parents were taken by the infection, they had many ideals that they held firm amongst them. They believed that once their children were done with school, that they would go right into working before even thinking of marriage or having children.

They believed that having children young would ruin them and would take away from any life experiences that they wanted to enjoy. So therefore they would state that their children should wait, as they did, until they were older than 30 before they decided to start having children. Many of them did follow instructions and wait, instead choosing to pursue careers of their own and build up their lives before adding another person, and eventually children into their lives. While this was how many of the Nyale kin’toni would live their lives, some of them would have children out of wedlock early, wanting to start their families young.

This was looked down on by their parents, and they would be sent away to figure everything out for themselves and on their own since they didn't want to listen to what their parents wanted them to do. After the Awakening, many of the kids had decided to band together to create their own little families so that they felt like they weren't so alone, and the really little ones would have older friends or even siblings that would take care of them and essentially raise them. They had taken over the bigger houses in the village and they had moved many beds into them so that they could all sleep in the same area to keep warm and to keep an eye on the younger ones.

Because of them being alone, they had shipments of goods coming in from other clans to help them get through their days with what they needed. These shipments would come once a week and would provide anything from building supplies, to new blankets and clothing, anything that was deemed necessary to survive. Sometimes, there would be members of the other clans that would stay for the week to try and teach the younger kin’toni to hunt and to take care of themselves without always needing an adult there. Oftentimes, whoever decided to stay with the Nyale clan would be subject to answering their questions, such as why they had to drink blood, what happened to their parents, and why these kin’toni weren't sick like their parents were.

The member that had decided to stay with them would answer the questions as best they could before they would leave at the end of the week.

Government

While there were many laws that the adults had put into place before the Awakening, there weren't many after. The children didn't think that they needed any rules or laws since they either spent their time taking care of each other, or avoiding each other. The only thing they had to look forward to was the shipment that they received once a week. This seemed to be the only consistent thing that happened for them, and they would make sure that they were available to receive it. It was almost as though they needed the guidance that the other clans gave them over the supplies that they were brought.

Before the Awakening, the adults of the clan had set rules and laws to ensure that everything had run smoothly. They were in place for everyone, but more specifically 18 and older. These were laws that kept shipments coming in, they kept each member from drinking too much of the blood that was supplied, and they would ensure that the proper actions were taken on any member that broke any laws or were caught trying to hurt someone else. After the Awakening however, the only laws that really stuck were the ones that would ensure the shipment each week would come in without any issues.

Many of the kids would not fight each other, they would usually ignore each other to do what they needed to do. This would involve going to play, usually with kids that were more their age, securing items from the previous shipments, or even going to the bathroom. It didn't overly seem that any of the kids cared what the other ones were doing unless they needed to make sure someone remained locked up until they had to leave. Eventually, it was known that the only true law that the kids made and enforced was that any kin’toni, especially the older ones, that believed they were coming down with the mania, would leave as soon as they could when the next shipment came in.

This would mean that they would have to keep themselves inside of their houses until the members of the other clans were preparing to leave, and then they would leave with them. If these members suspected that they had started to succumb to the mania, and they weren't keeping themselves away from the other members of the Nyale clan, the other members would be allowed to do anything that they could to ensure that the infected member wouldn't be able to leave their house. They would lock them inside and would block all of the doors and windows so that there wouldn't be any way for them to escape.

Because of the lack of intelligence there, the locked up member wouldn't try too hard to get out of their house, and the other members wouldn't have to try all that hard to keep them locked up.

Military

Because of the age of the children, there really wasn’t any type of military setting among them. They didn’t have an army as little to no other clans knew that they were there, and the ones that did didn’t want to battle against a clan filled with children. Before the Awakening, the Nyale kin’toni clan had a significant army. Many of the adults had applied to be within the army as they believed that they could make a difference if they did so. Many of them didn’t want to have any type of family setting yet, so they joined the army so that they always had something to do.

This army had their own fighting styles that they would use as they needed to. They would train everyone to know how to fight in various different styles so that they could hold off any other enemies. Some of the children would go to fight training before they even finished so that they could learn quicker and enter the military the same month that they left school. Their army would use double scimitars as their main weapons, wielding them with precision. They didn’t like to use shields as they wanted to be right in the middle of the fighting, and didn’t want to be bulked down by the shield when they could have two swords.

They also had archers that would fire ranged attacks that would give the main fighters an advantage when they ran into battle. The archers also carried a scimitar for when they would engage in close combat battle, although they would usually focus on using their bows while they were fighting. They would stay back as far as they could and pick off enemies with their arrows from a distance so that their attacks were assists for the other fighters. They wore mainly leather armour that would allow for them to move quicker and to keep up with their enemies, even gaining the upper hand in some cases.

This was how they liked it, enjoying being able to have the movement speed that they wanted. Many of them would design their own armour, putting their own touches, colours, and patterns into it to make it work for what they needed. This made their army looked mismatched in some ways, but that was okay to them because they still got the job done effectively. They made sure that their army was trained efficiently with medicine so that when there was an injured soldier, they could help to heal them and make sure that they would be able to be transported home to receive the rest of their medical care there.

Many of them completed their medical training and would bring it home with them, using it around the village as well to help the doctors there with their jobs. The doctors were appreciative of this, because while there weren’t so many members that needed attention, there were also few doctors and they couldn’t always get to a citizen when they were needed. This ensured that while there were always enough doctors, that they would always have the help they needed when they were back in the village.

Religion

When there were adults in the Nyale kin’toni clan, it was believed by them that there were multiple gods that controlled different aspects of life. There were gods that would give them bountiful crops, some that would ensure the safe and natural birth of their children, and some that they believed would give their army better fighting skills to ensure that they would win. It was believed that the kin’toni of the Nyale clan had so much of a belief in these gods, that they would spend a lot of their time praying to different ones throughout the day.

They would pray before their kids would go to school to ensure that they got there safely, and they would pray that they kept their intelligence up so that they could graduate with good grades. They would pray when they got to work so that their profits would grow throughout the day. As well as praying that they would be able to serve more customers, and gain more ideas on how to reach new customers. They had passed these religious beliefs onto their children, teaching them to always pray, and to be thankful for any gifts that they received.

Their kids usually did as they were told, praying with their parents and giving thanks when they did, but it was more to appease their parents than anything else. After the Awakening happened and the infection drove the adults out of the clan, many of the kids tried praying for their parents to come back. They tried promising that they would be good from now on, that they would study hard in school, and that they wouldn't make fun of the gods that existed, that they would believe 100%. Sadly, none of this ended up working, and the only help that they received was the members of other clans that would come to assist them.

Initially they felt like they had been ignored, that the gods were laughing at them for only now praying and actually believing it. After a while, each of the children started to accept the help of the other clans, beginning to enjoy when there would be an adult around that they could talk to and learn from.

They told the other clans that visited them about what their parents had believed before the infection took the, and some of the adults would sit down with the ones that were interested, and they would teach the children how to pray and how to worship the gods that their parents believed in.

They admitted that even some of their clans had believed in the same, or similar gods, so it was much more genuine when they would sit down and teach the kids how to pray and how to talk to these gods. Eventually, they got to a place where the kids were able to pray on their own, but they preferred to do it with the adults present so that they knew that they were doing it properly.
