Noestryn Kin'toni Clan
History
The anthology and overall history of the Noestryn clan go back for many tens of years, dating back to the early centuries of the kin'toni'ati Golden Age from around 4E 70 to 4E 90. During that time in Terael history a group of kin'toni known as the Bae'Heali were exiled from their respective clans for a crime that they never committed, and Ildtorhin Che'tai, the leader of the Bae'Heali, decided to take his own responsibilities seriously and lead the Daring Dozen into an icy region commonly referred to as the Icy Hills of Jakyla. Over the course of the next three years, they would build, raise, and teach a mighty army to learn how to hunt for food and defend themselves in battle or fighting.
The Noestryn clan's Golden Age came in 4E 75 when the clan began to defend their territory from a series of attacks from various mysterious clans who came one clan after the other in an attempt to bring the mighty Noestryn Clan down to its knees; this would continue for a period of twenty years, at which point they managed to defend their land from all corners while gaining alliances in the Xfaxa and Meullton clans, who were undoubtedly impressed with the clan's ability to defend themselves in an effective manner. Thus, they became stronger in numbers and allies, and with each passing year, their military would begin to see a surprising turnabout in size.
During the Shattering from 4E 100 to 4E 150 a minority of the Noestryn kin'toni began developing signs of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (or, as it is commonly referred to, battle fatigue), leaving them spiritually broken and at odds with themselves; as a result, some of the military kin'toni began to sympathize with their mentally deteriorating counterparts, and it cost them dearly. Although they continued to win battles, each passing victory became more and more questionable as the size of the Noestryn Clan, began to dwindle in population, and by the time the Shattering was over less than a third of the Noestryn kin'toni population were active or involved in the Oligarchy.
Today, because of an increasing number of deaths related to the Spotted Sickness that had infected the Icy Hills region from 4E 212 to 4E 215, the Noestryn kin'toni clan are but a fading memory of what they once were as a superpower. They have a total population of around 240. Strangely enough, there came a cure for the epidemic in 4E 245, and since then virtually every Noestryn kin'toni has been cured in the outbreak that once devoured their total population; but even so, a new Ice Age is coming, and chances are the Noestryn Oligarchy will not survive what will be the coldest period in known history but they are preparing for it nonetheless.
Psychology
Noestryn kin'toni is generally well-behaved, losing their temper only when they are pushed to the edge; because of this, they are generally slow to anger, trying as best as they can to deal with the current situation that is at play. They are not one to think about other underlying things when something important is transpiring around them, so when something gives they often focus on the task at hand and only on the task at hand and nothing else until they can manage to get the task completed. They are also of slightly unsound mind and are sometimes unable to think for themselves when they are overclocked.
Or sometimes they have too much on their minds. Individually the typical Noestryn kin'toni has a lot of common sense and knows how to use it when the time is right and the opportunity is there. One such typical Noestryn kin'toni is definitely not one to pass up on certain incentives, especially if it involves his or her being able to see and interact with the clan's leaders in person and talk to them about issues that he or she thinks and believes the clan's leaders can resolve. On occasion and from time to time the typical Noestryn kin'toni will pride himself or herself on an immense undertaking to contribute.
In light of all of these facts, a typical Noestryn kin'toni will stop at nothing to achieve his or her goal, and sometimes that same kin'toni will try numerous times to complete a seemingly easy task, which may also explain their lack of intelligence sense and common knowledge. Noestryn kin'toni are not entirely unintelligent, however, because they often keep promises that they originally intended to give to their own clan, going out of their own way to get a job or certain other jobs like it done. Although it is not easy to live as a Noestryn kin'toni compliance with the Noestryn clan leaders.
Can result in a number of different rewards, which may include promotion and a visit to the cavern in which the leaders of the Oligarchy live. Another note of importance to consider is that a Noestryn kin'toni is easy to motivate, although not as easy to convince. When they are feeling upset they normally beat themselves up over things that they can't seem to control, but when one of their own motivates them to continue pursuing a goal that one was not initially able to reach effectively the glum Noestryn kin'toni will eventually consider the motivation as a wake-up call.
Biology
The Noestryn are adapted to the very cold, heavily snowy, windy Icy Hills of Jakyla. They are very dense, compact and low slung of build, with short, thick limbs to keep in the heat in the cold and be stable in blizzeds. This also means they are slow and clumsy on open ground. The skin is thick, white and overlaid with a dense layer of subcutaneous lipids and keratin scales. This allows them to keep in heat and resist the cold. This also means the cutaneous respiration is slower than normal.
Under the skin, are large, dense fat pockets for an emergency energy supply and thermal buffer. They have a thick double layer of coarse, white, hollow guard hairs on their entire bodies, to act as camouflage and thermal trapping. This also makes them easy to see in non snowy landscapes. The eyes are small, deeply set and protected by thick, oily lids. They have an high concentration of rods and a specialized light-filtering pigment. This helps them see well in glare and whiteouts. This also means they have limited night-sight.
The ears are small, and with heavy fur. The nose is large, and equipped with heat-exchange coils that warm cold air before it reaches the lungs. This stops them from internal freezing and cell damage. The fangs are short, stout and adapted to to pierce thick hide and break frozen flesh. This allows feeding on large mammals. These fangs mean they are unable to feed stealthy or painlessly. The claws are broad, blunt and shovel like to allow them to dig into packed snow and ice for shelter or stability.
Using specialized vascular shunts, they are able to move warm blood to their feet to allow them to melt snow for traction. This also stresses their core temperature regulation. The ligaments are encased in a hardened, fibrous sheath. This lowers the chance of dislocation and makes joints far more stable for moving over thick ice. Using specialized muscle fibers,, they can produce a limited amounts of body heat. This is done by rapidly contracting the muscle fibers. This allows them to have increased reaction time during sudden drops in temperature.
The downside is that it burns calories, and making feeding needed if used too much. They have a large amount of specialized anti-freezing proteins in their internal fluids to allow them survive even being frozen solid (abet unconscious). They are able to use powerful vasodilators that to swiftly force warm blood to extremities. This allows them to starve off frostbite. The lymphatic filters and recycling glands are much more densely packed. With this, they can lower heat loss from internal surfaces.
The stems cells are adapted to work well, even in the freezing cold to allow regeneration of minor wounds in the cold with minimal energy loss. This also leads to slower healing in warmer climates as the stem cells are not adapted for that. They are able to use an controlled, long-term state of metabolic suspension to survive months of starvation during even deep winter. But to take from this state, means having to spend time recovering.
Culture
Most Noestryns have an uncanny way of clothing themselves. Males normally wear shirts, trousers, boots and cloaks of animal fur to keep themselves warm in their icy region, although they don't necessarily need the cloak when considering that they are very tolerant of the cold and can handle it manageably to an extent; however, females typically wear a robe of red interior and blue exterior over fur shirts and trousers to make themselves more stylish. The Noestryn clan, just like their neighbours the Falyir clan, are also a military-governed clan as the leaders of the Noestryn clan.
Were once leaders of the clan's military and thus a law was established for former successful military soldiers to lead the clan in which they reside; however, the leaders of the clan like to test the Noestryn population and give them incentives if they are able to successfully complete said tests; therefore, the clan have been raised from a cultural standpoint to compete with one another so that they will be able to learn how to compete against other clans from other regions. They are also very socially awkward among other clans of kin'toni, although it is suggested by most of the modern Noestryn.
kin'toni that they themselves don't have a problem interacting with themselves. The reason for such a unique mindset is because in addition to their other weaknesses they are also aware of the existence of other clans and don't typically believe in themselves enough to give those other clans a proper impression. Most Noestryn kin'toni are also gifted in building ships, and sometimes up to 15 Noestryn kin'toni can be seen working on one ship all at once. The ships that they build are fairly large and are able to carry at most about a fifth of the clan's current population.
This is due to Nalrad Eelma being on the coast of the Sea of Kaxli, and needing to defend the region by sea. The boats help with fishing as they can go out far into the Kaxli Sea. They are not the best cooks as they don't ever cook their meals and would rather choose to eat their meals as they are. The clan fishes in the sea a lot as a major food source and consider sa'ki (a sea weed-like plant) as a major part of their diet. Borth foods can be eaten raw and are often eaten as a meal consisting of very fresh raw fish and sometimes meat sliced into thin pieces and served on sa'ki.
Government
The Zeraxu'shia-Nesory (loose translation: Noestryn Oligarchy) is a military-controlled government that is governed by a group of former Noestryn military soldiers. This government, which consists of a team of three primary leaders and seven secondary leaders controlling the seven different local sectors from across the Icy Hills region, each of which serves simultaneous roles in the labour, war, treasury, diplomatic, cultural and religious departments. Furthermore, the Zeraxu'shia-Nesory also doubles as a military when their major operations as a government are inactive.
The Falyir clan could be considered by many within the Noestryn population as an ally of the Noestryn clan, especially considering how the Zeraxu'shia-Nesory meets the Falyir region once every five years to discuss diplomatic relations with other clans and the best way in which to handle said diplomatic relations. During each meeting, the two governments from the Noestryn and Falyir clans discuss the current status of their own diplomatic relations and deliberate on what they are doing right at the present moment or what they can do right in order to continue their alliance with one another.
When considering the electoral process of a typical Noestryn government cycle it is important to note that the electoral process, which is only for vacancies within the Zeraxu'shia-Nesory, involves several different challenges, which include a race across the region and back. Whoever wins the majority of these challenges will be granted either initiation or re-election into their respective positions within the Noestryn kin'toni clan's government. If there is a tie after the challenges conclude, then the decision of who wins will be determined by a series of three coin tosses.
Where the winner of two of the aforementioned tosses will become either a primary or secondary leader, depending on the position in which they are. When it is discovered that a certain primary or secondary leader within the Zeraxu'shia-Nesory has been caught doing something that is not in the best interest of the leaders (and the clan in general) they will be initially questioned and interviewed. If the suspect in question is lying or is suspected by the three primary leaders of lying, then the suspect will be tried by the rest of the secondary leaders.
If convicted, the suspect will be exiled from the Zeraxu'shia-Nesory and forced to live as a recluse; but if proven innocent, they will kick out of the government, but allowed to stay in the clan.
Military
As mentioned in paragraph one of the Government section, the Zeraxu'shia-Nesory operates as a military oligarchy when it is active and as a militia when the oligarchy is on break or inactive. During the early hours of the night the three primary leaders and seven secondary leaders that are responsible for running the militia effectively and in a timely manner, which, of course, leads to the vast majority of the population going to a large cave in the Icy Hills region to stand up and be counted as their military exercises prepare to begin. This is where things start to get very interesting.
The Zeraxu'shia-Nesory's military exercises are very important in keeping Noestryn kin'toni in near-perfect healthy and tip-top shape. These exercises involve a number of different cardio and aerobic exercises, including running, push-ups (referred to in the Noestryn population as xyran), crunches (also referred to in the clan as zguansu), and sprinting. The two-hour workout is often gruelling, but it often proves to help more than it does hurt, and as a result, the leaders of each section oversee and motivate each of the individuals as they switch from one routine exercise to another.
During missions, the leaders of the Zeraxu'shia-Nesory split into two separate but equally important factions, which consist of one faction that travels eastward and another which travels westward. The entire population of each of the factions then become missionaries and travel to the Xfaxa and Falyir regions, respectively, to assist their allies in battles that may potentially be ongoing, depending on the state of the regions in which each faction travel. When all is said and done, they immediately salute their allies in an obligatory fashion and return back to their military base in the Icy Hills region.
Soldiers in the Zeraxu'shia-Nesory are initiated as soon as they are turned and are then subject to basic training, which includes having to go through an obstacle course of icicles and various other items or hazards of some kind. If a fledgling soldier can manage to get through this obstacle course in a certain amount of time, they will gain entry into the Zeraxu'shia-Nesory and are branded with a symbol that symbolizes the name of the clan and its governing force. If they don't succeed, then they will not be able to try again for another three years, at which point they will be advised to train for their next attempt.
Religion
The Noestryn kin'toni is typically a slightly religious person if it involves military activity, The Noestryn kin'toni often prays during a break in the Oligarchy's military schedule, particularly when mass is to be scheduled in the deepest part of the cave where a dozen candles are lit in several different places; however, despite a typical mass encouraging the participation of all that take part in the clan's military and its activities just 43 per cent of the clan's current population are religious, much less predominantly, and one's religious beliefs tend to contradict another's personal beliefs.
This is given or taken the situation that is currently playing out. The primary and secondary leaders of the Noestryn clan generally like to hold mass in the deepest and darkest part of the cave in which military activities are held (at which point a religious leader and advisor are needed to give sermons and lead in prayers), and the Oligarchical Church of Wisdom (preferably referred to by the Noestryns specifically as the Nesory-Xur'swi), which was originally founded by the clan founder's first and foremost successor some fifteen thousand years ago, supposedly during the later stages of her life.
Is often home to some of the Noestryn recluses, who come here secretly to pray and then depart quickly without being spotted. The founder of the Nesory-Xurswi supposedly had sympathy for the recluses back in her day, often letting them worship in the deepest, darkest part of the cave. It comes as no surprise that most of the kin'toni in this clan are not religious in particular, but the other half of the Noestryn kin'toni clan recently founded a new theory based on their own personal beliefs behind the creation of the kin'toni'ati race; this theory, known as the Tzawaqona Zkian.
Suggests that the birth of the kin'toni'ati race transpired when a zu'aan was adopted by a mutant known as the Dyryan and eventually turned into a kin'toni when it bit his neck many years later before its death. This theory has been debated amongst the two different sections of theorists and religionists within the Noestryn kin'toni clan, and as a result, the debate has raged on ever since the original Tzawaqona Zkian theory was proposed by the leader of the minority of the clan. There is very little to show this story is true. Given that, it is important to consider that when observing the spirituality of Noestryn kin'toni at work.
It should not come as a surprise that they are clearly dedicated both religiously and discipline-wise to the work which they do, even if it causes them great pain. They also know that their leaders, the primary and secondary leaders that are responsible for both its government and its military structures, typically like to be praised and revered
