Geography
The land mass of Meircad is about 50,000 kilometers in area with a leveled ground that makes it easy for habitation. This region includes a large number of edible plants in various shapes and heights. The height of trees in Meircad is not consistent and its vegetation is diverse. Most plants of this northern region are Deciduous in nature, with thick strong barks and deep roots. The crops are a mix of shrubs, trees and grasses which Meircad animals graze on. The Meircad region is full of small caves and wide pathways with scattered vegetation. The soil in the area allows for healthy developed plants to thrive. It also has a fair number of streams and rivers surrounded by clay soil at their banks. These streams include those of freshwater and saltwater types. Freshwater streams are used by Meircad warriors in their practice, while saltwater is a deterrent to their practice. When saltwater is poured on a potion, it neutralizes its effect. Saltwater is therefore used in preparing antidotes to certain spells and potions.
The water bodies in Meircad are as follows;
Freshwater: The rivers of Meircad all fall under this category, as none of them are saltwater bodies.
River Pleithades; which runs from the north to the south of the Meircad region, The Tyad're; streams most commonly used by warriorss because of its lack of aquatic animals, Wofenq stream; which contains the most variety of edible fish and sea urdtha, and River Frud; which is known for overflowing and causing floods during the rainy season.
Saltwater: Dta'mon Streams; which has a large number of plants growing at its banks, and the Pyuj streams; which is majorly known for its neutralizing power. The climatic conditions of Meircad are not favorable to both humans, animals and plants alike, but with the right adaptation, all this living organisms have learned to survive in it. Those who find it mostly difficult are visitors to Meircad who leave after a week spent in its harsh conditions.
Its seasons are divided into two, namely; dry season and wet season. Even in the dry and wet season, the cold of Meircad is unbearable, as it is covered in snow all year round. In its dry season however, there is a bit of rain showers and less snow. This season is best for fishing and planting food crops, as they tend to thrive in early stages in less water. In its wet season, the whole of Meircad is full of snow, and even its trees have a blue tint to them, almost looking like Hatimati. You can see people covered up in all forms of woolen clothing in order to protect themselves from cold.
Plants
The plants of Meircad have to be planted in the dry season, as they need less water in their beginning stages of growth. They include the following:
Xekt'u: This is a healing plant of Meircad forest that is known in all households. It is used in making healing potions and pills for treating wounded warriors. It regenerates the internal and external organs of their bodies, thereby making it easy for the healing process to begin. Its leaves are washed and ground into fine powder, then boiled for drinking. The Xekt'u plant is highly valued amongst warriors and the people of Meircad alike. It grows by the side of the Dta'mon stream, surviving even in harsh weather conditions.
Menti'dy: A slight variant of the menthol species, this plant is highly recommended for its ability to heal cold. Its bark is shaved off, then soaked in hot water and used to bath. It cleanses off every cold symptom in a warrior’s system, making the skin thicker and less prone to cold related diseases. Menti'dy is scattered all over Meircad and people who come visiting often take along pieces of its bark to be used in their various homes.
Clafud: The Clafud plant is the oldest grown plant in the Meircad region. Legend has it that it was already a part of Meircad before the area was discovered. The fruit of this tree can be eaten and its leaves used in making various delicacies. Its bark is glossy and hard, giving off a shiny yellow color. Clafud is a food and fruit crop that is useful in Meircad and its environs. The blue colored fruit is washed and eaten like the berry fruit.
Triage: This plant is known for its beautiful flowers. At every wedding in Meircad, this flower is sprinkled over the couple as they match down the aisle with relations gathered around them. The Triage is also useful in the making of creopes (ropes used in the forest and around the home), as its leaves are strong and elastic. This plant grows up to three feet in height. It is also the home of small birds and insects which feed on its flowers, leaves and fruit. Its fruit has a peachy smell, but is not edible for humans.
Lumophyton: Is a luminous Moist-plantae of the algae class, that grows in the Wofenq stream. It is a green shapeless algae that survives only when submerged in water. It provides nutrients for small fishes in the river, cleanses the river of all impurities and gives off a yellowish green light. This mystical plant has been experimented on severally by Taerel scientists and its mechanism has aided in the development of technology. It can also be found in Essad autumnal Boreal grove.
Animals
The animals of Meircad are majorly small rodents, little insects and large aquatic animals. It is very common to see animals scurrying around in the day time, but the only activities heard at night is the fishes splashing in water. Some of these animals include:
Throg'er: This is a three eyed furry animal that is known for its mystical aura. The Throg'er runs around Meircad in the day, but is never seen at night. Its black and yellow fur makes it difficult to find as it lives close to the Triage tree. It is widely sought by warriors for its ability to detect sound and magic around it. It stays hidden from the eyes of visitors during their stay as it has been known to cause quite a stir whenever it is seen by outsiders. Its sharp ears pick up sound of larger animals and predators from a distance of 20 kilometers away and it is able to protect itself by camouflage.
Sagart: The sagart is a predator that lives in the Wofenq streams. It is a variant of the shark species, having a hump at its back. The Sagart lays eggs close to the Lumophyton, which hatch into smaller predators, feeding on smaller fish. It grows fast and can be up to 3 feet after four months of hatching. Sagarts are generally green in color, but their young have blue lines across their bodies, running from from horizontal end to the other.
Urdtha: The Urdtha is a land animal of about 2 feet in height. It has fur for its skin, which protects it from the cold weather conditions of Meircad. It also has short legs like the deer and antlers on its head, which it uses in defending itself from predators. It feeds on the Triage fruit and lives up to a hundred years before death. It is hunted for its delicious meat(called Urnison).
Lika: This is a migrant bird with beautiful purple and white feathers. It has a puffy brown chest and short, stubby legs, which support its weight on the Xekt'u tree. Attached to the head of the Lika is a small brown comb, which bobs at every movement. It is a sight to behold in the wet season, migrating from Elds deciduous forest. The Lika feeds on small insects and worms.
