History

The zu'aan from Loran city would use the rocky terrain around them as a camouflage. They did this because it was easier for them to hide than it was for them to fight off any kin’toni that would attack, or other zu'aan that wanted to battle. There were more attacks that would happen on the zu'aan from Loran city as their terrain held more shadows and places that the kin’toni could hide until nightfall and they were able to perform their attacks. This was something that the zu'aan despised, and so they had developed the plan to send their military into the more shadowy places to chase away any kin’toni that were hiding there.

They would make sure that there weren't any kin’toni that were hiding in the shadows, and any that were caught would be killed as long as it was possible. There was no mercy shown towards them as if there was, the kin’toni would assume they were allowed to come back to Loran city to terrorize and attack the zu'aan there. When they were building their city, the zu'aan from the city weren't worried about anything. Loran city had been constructed long before the Shattering, and so there were no precautions put into place to keep the zu'aan safe.

The worst they would have to worry about was battles that happened occasionally. And so because of this, there wasn’t much of a need to properly protect the edges of the city. This came back to bite them when the Shattering happened and they needed to protect their city from the kin’toni that wanted nothing more than to feast on their blood. When the Shattering happened, the zu'aan from Loran city started to worry about their safety. They weren't sure how they were going to be able to keep themselves safe, and so they turned to their government and their military.

Since their climate was usually quite warm and inviting, there wasn’t much that the Loran zu'aan had to worry about in the way of kin’toni attacks. This was because the heat and sun drove the kin’toni away from the lands. However, there were some that still wanted to come feast on the zu'aan there as there wasn’t much in the way of defences that would be able to keep them out. Because of how scared they were, the Loran zu'aan decided that they would rely on camouflage that they were able to quickly develop that matched their terrain and was abe to keep them hidden when there were kin’toni attacks on their city.

They were happy with the camouflage as it was effective from the beginning and gave them purpose in their lives. However, they wanted to make a change that would keep the kin’toni out of their city easier. This was when they decided that they would take rocks and boulders from around their city and stack them up, creating a small wall around the city. They didn’t make the wall more than 10 feet tall, but they were happy with how it was able to keep the kin’toni out.

Psychology

Shown by the way that they found their camouflage and were able to adapt it to look exactly like their terrain, the Loran zu'aan were very smart, and they knew it. They knew that their development of their camouflage was what was going to keep them from getting killed by kin’toni that decided to attack their city. The more time that passed since their camouflage was made, the more secure their city became, and the less attacks happened against the city. Because of this, the zu'aan believed that their efforts were working, and they were right about that assumption.

Their city was becoming less of a target for the kin’toni to attack them as they were focussed more on keeping themselves safe. As soon as there was the threat of an attack, or even the beginning of one, they would get into heir camouflage and they would hide as best they could. Since they had evolved to become smarter, there were other changes that the zu'aan made to their city. They knew that the kin’toni were hungry and would do what they could to make sure they had something to eat, meaning they would break into Loran city, or even hide there, as much as they could so they could have food.

There were a few caves that were on the property line of the city, where the mouth was within the city, but most of the cave was behind the wall. This meant that if there were kin’toni that were able to get into the city, they could go into the cave and, if they went far enough back, they would be able to say they weren't in Loran city. While this was something that could technically be true, the military and government from Loran city decided that if they were going to occupy a cave that’s mouth was on Loran territory, they would be able to watch the comings and goings of the kin’toni that claimed they lived in there.

They would document everything so they knew where they were at all times, and in doing so, they were able to deter the kin’toni from trying to inhabit those caves. They found that the majority of them didn’t want to be watched every time they left their home, and so they would leave and wouldn’t come back.

Since there were things the Loran zu'aan would do to keep kin’toni out or make sure they were protected from them, they regarded themselves as smarter than most of the other zu'aan cities around them. Because of this, they were more cocky towards other cities, and had lost multiple alliances because of it.

They made their city work by selling their camouflage, or making patterns for other cities, so that they could share in the safety of knowing that kin’toni wouldn’t be able to fine them. Knowing they were smart because of one thing they came up with was what worked for them, and they weren't about to stop gloating about the invention they had made that everyone was dying to have.

Culture

Although the Loran zu'aan were smart enough to keep themselves camouflaged when there was an attack by kin’toni, that didn’t mean they would live their lives quietly. They liked to have parties, and in doing so, they would often bring the attacks on themselves. This meant that they would go out during the day and they would play loud music and horse around, acting as though they were on top of the world and that the kin’toni wouldn’t be able to get to them, especially because they would only party during the day when the kin’toni couldn’t get to them.

Since they were smart enough to party only when the sun was up, by the time it was going down, they would make sure that they were all sober enough to get into their camouflage if there was an attack that night. This consisted of the military timing the zu'aan to see how quickly they could get dressed, and how effective they were in getting their camouflage on. This was done to make sure that the zu'aan hadn’t had too much to drink and ran the risk of exposing themselves and other zu'aan to the hungry kin’toni. The more they would party, the more they would chose dangerous options.

This meant that there were times when they would go into the caves that used to be inhabited by kin’toni so they could feel on edge as they partied. While the idea of the party and the location weren't the best ideas, the zu'aan weren't stupid. They would always make sure to send members of the military into the caves to check and see if there were any kin’toni in there before they would have their parties. If there were any, they would have them killed or driven away so they could properly occupy the cave for the duration of the party.

While there was no true reason for them to be having parties, they thought they were allowed to, and so they did. There was no need for them to ask anyone as no one truly seemed to protest their parties. This meant that they would party until there was no more alcohol, or the military shut their parties down because there was something else that was important that needed to be done. Since they would party just about every day, they were frequently drunk. They would remain this way so long as they could still get into their camouflage, and so long as they were able to remain safe.

If they weren't able to, they would be forced to become sober and would no longer be allowed to join the parties as they would be seen as a risk to the city and a threat to their safety. Because of this there were many of them that would keep drinking so they could master getting into camouflage and keeping their city safe so they didn’t get banned from the parties.

Government

Since the zu'aan from Loran city had invented their camouflage and had begun selling it to the other zu'aan cities, they started to party to celebrate that they were able to do that. That meant that there were at least two parties each day, if not one long one. There were members of the government that didn’t believe there was any need to celebrate so much when they could be making and selling more than just camouflage. Because of this, they decided that they would have to approve parties to make sure that work quotas were met and that other aspects of the government were taken care of.

Since the government were the ones that would have to approve the parties, there were many times when they wouldn’t participate in them because they were too busy taking care of other things. While the zu'aan were partying, the leaders of Loran city were usually conducting business and making sure they would have more buyers for the camouflage that was made in the city. They would take perspective buyers to see the camouflage that was already made to see if they liked the quality of it before they would ask how much was needed.

The final step was to send a few of the zu'aan from Loran city to the other cities to take samples of their terrain and get a feel for how everything looked so they could make sure that the camouflage was as effective as theirs at keeping them safe. The more they would do this, the more they would have to think about the things that needed to be done. There were things that the government wanted to implement, but the constant partying made it hard for them to adapt or grow their city. Because of this, it was common for the leaders of Loran city to close the parties down early, or for them to stop them for a week at a time so they could make sure that they had things done before the parties were allowed to resume.

The zu'aan from the city didn’t like that the leaders would do this, as they believed that they should be allowed to party as much as they wanted to. This was the reason that the leaders would cut them off, because they needed them to continue to do their jobs and make money for the government. The leaders themselves would often abandon their posts at the top of the government, temporarily, so that they could go and assist the zu'aan in making or distributing the camouflage, as that way they would be able to make more of it and sell more of it.

The zu'aan weren't sure what to think of this, as they weren't sure if it was being done because they were being too slow, or if it was because the leaders genuinely wanted to help them. It would cause a lot of confusion among the zu'aan, although they wouldn’t complain about it because it would mean they would have less work to do, even if it wasn’t a lot less.

Military

Since they did so much for the city, the military were essentially regarded as gods. They were the strongest, smartest, and most versatile zu'aan that were in Loran city, and because of that, they were well endowed with a god complex. While they had always remained humble about their duties, when they were at parties or were talking to the leaders of the government, they would talk about how they were the strongest and that there wasn’t any zu'aan out there that would be able to take them down. They were cocky with how strong they were, but because there was no one out there that would challenge them, they were left living their lives thinking that they were the best of the best.

Since it was their job to secure the city and make sure that parties, business meetings, and other things would go off without an issue, there were several branches of the military there. There were the regular military that would have to go to battle at a moments notice, so they would spend a lot of time training, so they didn’t have to worry about not being fit. They were essentially on call 24/7 and that was all they did. There were the guards, whose job was to make sure that the leaders of the government were taken care of when they were in meetings.

They would have to stand guard outside of the doors, make sure they kept a log of each member that was in the room, as well as the visitors, and they would have to make sure that they were sober and clean at all times. Since they would go with the leaders when they would travel, they would have to make sure that they were protecting the leaders from any threats that could arise. The last branch was the lead zu'aan of the military. These were the ones that were the supervisors or the managers of the other branches. There weren't many leaders, and so they would spread themselves out within the branches to make sure that things were getting done as they needed to be.

This meant that they would each the other members of the military to make sure the leaders were being kept safe, or that places were being properly checked before there were parties. While the entire military was worshipped as though they were gods, the leaders of the military were the ones that were looked up to the most. On top of having the same duties and tasks as the other members of the military, they also had to make sure that the other branches were doing their tasks properly.

This meant that they were constantly under more stress, although they never acted as though they were. They were regarded as the best because they knew they were doing their jobs well. They were in the ear of the government, and there were some that were able to make changes within the laws of Loran city because of that. If there were zu'aan that wanted something changed, they would go to one of the lead military members and usually that member would take the request to the government. Usually, this resulted in a change.

Religion

Because of the way that they would regard the military as their own personal gods, there was no other religion with the city of Loran. There wasn’t any problem with this among the zu'aan as they were fine with regarding the military as their gods, since they were the ones that would make changes in the city and keep the zu'aan safe. However, when zu'aan from Loran city would talk about how they would idolize their military, they would be laughed at. There were other cities that would listen to the Loran zu'aan about how they would worship their military and pray to them, and they would try and tell them that what they were doing was wrong.

The other cities would say that they were missing the point of what a religion is and that because of that, they weren't allowed to call it a religion. This was something that confused the zu'aan from Loran because they truly believed that they had started their own religion. It wasn’t a religion that they wanted to spread as they knew the other cities wouldn’t like it. They wanted to keep it to themselves, and so they stopped talking about it unless they were asked about it. As more time passed, the zu'aan from Loran knew that their religion wasn’t as conventional as the other religions that were out there, but that didn’t mean that they wanted to change theirs.

Instead, they decided that they would rather pamper their military to let them know that they had never forgotten about them and that they were always going to believe they were gods. Since they wanted to pamper their military, that meant that they would go out of their way to make sure that they were sending as much to the military as they could. Even though they were staying around the city, the zu'aan would still send them care packages and money to show them that they were worshipped. Other times, they would leave offerings for them at their houses to show them that they were cared for and that they were going to be taken care of as much as possible.

Because of these constant streams of gifts and offerings, the members of the military would never have to buy anything that was needed. They would simply mention that they needed something, and that meant that the item they needed would show up for them. There were always zu'aan that were listening to them and trying to figure out what was needed, and the military knew this. They would notice zu'aan that would hang around and listen to them, and so, to play along, they would act as though they couldn’t see them and they would talk normally so that the zu'aan could fulfill their duties and get the military what they needed.

This was something that was especially prevalent at parties as it would give the zu'aan the perfect cover to be close to any members of the military and talk to them as well. This was the system that worked for them and wasn’t something they wanted to change.
