Lidebi City Zu'Aan
History
The Lidebi city zu'aan were founded by a zu'aan warrior named Anya T'kal who established their home city of Lidebi within the Yutin Whitewater River region in the year 4E 65. She was born the daughter of a reputed zu'aan warlord in the Yutin Whitewater region, where she spent the early part of her life being groomed as the potential successor to her father. She spent many years studying his political affairs and decision-making while also building her proficiency with all kinds of weapons. Her training would culminate in the clan's ritualistic passing rites that decided the acceptance and status one would occupy in adulthood.
She would display her unbreakable mettle during her trial where her fellow peers- including a few of her cousins would knock her unconscious and leave her for dead in enemy territory out of jealousy and a desire to claim their own rights to the throne. Anya sustained grievous wounds during this encounter but crawled, hobbled and rode a wild mount back to her homeland. She refused to be treated before the act of treachery was punished, and proceeded to murder all of her cousins after a public proclamation of their deeds.
The tribe took notice of her actions and collectively rejoiced at the tenacity and brashness displayed by the young prospect. The incident cemented her spot as the unchallenged heir to the clan's leader. Like most expected, she would eventually take over the leadership of the tribe, after her father passed away from a kin'toni attack during the outbreak. She was one of the few zu'aan leaders who realized that they couldn't win an all-out battle against the kin'toni because of their overwhelming numbers.
She was quick to notice her advantage in defensive positions since the kin'toni were hopelessly primitive and hadn't mastered the use of any weapons and tools. She argued these points in a zu'aan council called to decide on a course of action to meet the kin'toni threat. She stressed on the value of defense and tried to convince the other zu'aan clans not to resort to open warfare where the kin'toni had an advantage with their numbers. Anya's warnings fell to deaf ears and the other zu'aan clans embarked on a full-scale battle against the kin'toni that would end in defeat.
Anya's first major decision as the leader of her tribe was to withdraw into the desolate caverns of the rocky Libedi hills. Here, Anya would establish a defensive enclave for the tribe and renamed them the Libedi zu'aan in honor of the region that they inhabited. Under her, the clan adopted a more defensive ideology and would use the large river rocks found along the Yutin whitewater region, to build tall and formidable stone walls to protect their enclaves. These rocks were purposely draped with overgrown vegetation to act as a natural camouflage and hide their presence from kin'toni scouts.
Anya's rule would continue inside the enclave where she instituted a strict limit on the clan's freedom of movement outside the walls along with a compulsory society-wide reproduction program to keep their numbers alive.

They believed that this system was fair and just, and allowed the best and most suitable candidate to rise above the rest.
The Lidebi were known for their very possessive attitudes towards their land and resources. This was a common trait among all tribes of the Yutin whitewater river region and led to many of the wars and conflicts in the region. Tribes would regularly wander beyond their clan boundaries while hunting or tracking prey and would consequently be met by the claimants of that particular territory. The fate of the land was then decided through battle between the two sides. The clan would have to tone down their aggressive attitudes during the kin’toni outbreak when they began to face incursions from bands of kin’toni warriors.

This was a vital part of surviving in an environment where the clan was constantly involved in warfare with other tribes of the region. The military culture of the clan was apparent in the way their children were trained from a young age. They were allowed to pick their weapon of choice and were trained until they mastered its use.
Their military training would continue even later in life through drills and regular hunting trips that were scheduled to keep them sharp and ready. Warfare and fighting played an important role within the clan and would continue to do so throughout their existence. Trials were a common part of their culture which were used to decide the membership as well as the distribution of roles and responsibilities within the clan. In return the winners and achievers among the clan could hope to achieve fame and glory along with higher ranks and positions within their society. Celebrations and festivities were a regular part of their culture. These were intended for the more mature and adult members of the clan and involved a lot of traditional drinks and drunken revelry.
This was in keeping with the clan's disregard for family values and their promotion of individual heroics and independence. Religion was also an important component of their culture and the average Lidebi clan member wore many ornaments and clothing of religious significance. Their religion was drummed into them from a young age and helped to motivate the members into becoming loyal clan members who were willing to undergo all kinds of hardships for the good of the clan.
Language and writing were not well developed within the clan due to their primitive nature and their disregard for intellectual pursuits. Literature and traditional stories and legends were passed down through generations in the form of hymns and songs that were sung by their priests and religious leaders, who also doubled as historians. Their culture would undergo some advancements during the kin'toni outbreaks when they were forced into a more settled lifestyle and had to commence the construction of walls and protected dwellings to protect themselves from the savage kin'toni groups.
Government
The Lidebi city zu'aan had a tribal form of government that was one among the hundreds of tribal groups that occupied the Yutin whitewater river region. The region was known for its chaotic atmosphere with regular wars and conflicts among its inhabitants. This necessitated the creation of brutal and straightforward governments that were tailored towards efficiency in combat. They were responsible for preparing and gathering their citizens for war in the most effective way possible. The pre-outbreak government of the Lidebi clan were also constituted in this way.
They were led by a single leader who was chosen on the basis of a long and arduous trial, where the victor emerged as the next leader of the clan. The leader was responsible for making all decisions on behalf of the clan. This included matter relating to diplomacy, the economy, trade and warfare. Their system was an authoritarian one where all clan members had to adhere to the word of the leader. This was necessary in order to ensure the effectiveness and responsiveness of the clan. Conflicts could arise at any time in this region and the clan who could respond faster and with more force usually won out.
The leader made laws to keep the clan in a state of constant readiness while balancing it with the happiness within their ranks. Order was maintained within their ranks with the help of social pressure. The clan was very loyal to their leader and those who did not conform to the laws were regarded unfavorably by their members. Punishment came in the form of social ostracization and harassment which could extend to expulsion in case of larger crimes. The government would be tested time and again during the outbreak when they faced a larger threat in the form of the superior kin’toni warriors.
The government would make many radical changes during this stage to effectively counter this threat. Anya's first major decision as the leader of her tribe was to withdraw into the desolate caverns of the rocky Libedi hills. Here, Anya would establish a defensive enclave for the tribe and renamed them the Libedi zu'aan in honor of the region that they inhabited. Anya had witnessed first-hand the effects of the neighboring clans encounters with the newcomers, and chose discretion and fortification in preparation for any incoming kin’toni attack.
Anya's rule would continue inside the enclave where she instituted a strict limit on the clan's freedom of movement outside the walls along with a compulsory society-wide reproduction program to keep their numbers alive
The Libedi society was also turned into an ever-ready military reserve that was able to step into their colony’s defense in times of trouble.
Military
The Yutin whitewater river region was home to a large number of aggressive zu'aan clans who engaged in constant warfare with each other. This environment made it necessary for the Lidebi city zu'aan to have military capabilities long before the kin'toni outbreak. The clan was known for its hard lifestyle that was designed with combat in mind. Their culture valued independence and warrior skills which were inculcated into their members from a very young age. Their members were taken into communal dormitories from birth, where they were trained in all aspects of combat and trained regularly to become proficient in the clan's weaponry.
Their children were allowed to pick their weapon of choice and were trained until they mastered its use. Their military training would continue even later in life through drills and regular hunting trips that were scheduled to keep them sharp and ready. Warfare and fighting played an important role within the clan and would continue to do so throughout their existence. They were known for their aggressive attitudes and their possessive nature towards their land and resources. Thus, they would meet any challenge or threat, head on without shying away from combat.
These early combat against their fellow zu'aan clans were characterized by the rapid nature of their engagements. This was due to the forested and heavily vegetated environments that allowed the armies to disappear once they sensed a disadvantage. Ambushes and traps ruled the roost in these environments and were deployed to deadly effect by the zu'aan armies. Their armies were known for the use of a wide range of weaponry which from hammers, maces and spears for melee combat to thrown javelins and bows for longer ranged combat.
The armies used this variety to effectively engage their enemies from a distance before switching to melee weapons, once they closed in. Their armies were a mix of all kinds of units and fought in disorganized ranks. Battlefields were very chaotic as a result and it was rare to see the effective deployment of complex tactics. The armies relied more on bravery and individual skills rather than large scale tactics to win the day.Warfare was revolutionized soon after the kin'toni outbreak when massed open battles became an outdated concept.

These rocks were purposely draped with overgrown vegetation to act as a natural camouflage and hide their presence from kin'toni scouts. The Libedi clan's society was also turned into an ever-ready military reserve that was able to step into their colony’s defense in times of trouble.
Religion
The Lidebi city zu'aan followed many old beliefs and customs that originated in the region some hundreds of centuries ago. They continued to practice many of their primitive rituals, including the sacrifice of their enemies and the 'unsuitable' within their clan. Their religion was purpose-built to secure the clan's survival in the competitive and hostile surroundings of the Yutin whitewater region. It was known for its brutality and harsh practices that it required from its followers.
The brutal initiation trials and leadership tests were all customs that were prescribed and sanctioned by their religion to choose the most worthy among the Lidebi zu'aan. The initiation trial was undertaken at the end of a clan members training in the dormitory. The member would have to pass the challenging physical, mental and endurance tests in order to become a member of the clan. Those who failed were designated as unworthy and sacrificed in elaborate rituals that were performed by the clan's priest and priestesses.
This was intended to keep the clan at its optimum state and to prevent any liabilities from existing within the clan. The heartless and brutal nature of their religion was also evident in its discouragement of family bonds and emotional attachment within the clan. The religion followed three major gods that were named Uriso, Say and Lalov. They were the god of warfare, fertility and prosperity respectively. Uriso was most commonly portrayed as a warrior dressed in varying forms of Lidebi armor and weapons according to the times.
The clan prayed to him for bravery and for success in battle. Say, the god of fertility was depicted as a zu'aan woman and was responsible for ensuring the fertility of the population as well as the viability of their offspring. The clan prayed to her for healthy babies so that they could maintain their numbers. Most of the clan's sacrifices were directed to her. Lalov the god of prosperity was responsible for the material prosperity of the clan. They prayed to her for a healthy economy and opportunities in trade and commerce.
The hardcore early phases of their religion which were mired in sacrifices and brutal practices would be toned down by their leader Anya T'kal during the kin'toni outbreak when the clan began to lead a more settled lifestyle within the protection of their walls. It was her logic that the clan could no longer afford to lose any of its members on sacrifices and ritual practices. The religion would undergo a period of modernization which made it more humane and acceptable to civilized society. These sacrificial rituals were replaced by more enjoyable celebrations and festivals that were meant to uplift the morale of the people.
