History

In the beginning, the Keris kin’toni clan had been wandering around looking for a new place for them to call home. Since they weren’t looking for anything specific, there had been many places that they had gone while they were looking. Finally, they decided to settle within Waress Dry Field. While there wasn’t a lot of trees or cover in the field, the clan grew to like the openness of the fields there. They had managed to find a small dip in their field, the area there lower than the rest of the fields. Something about it had drawn the Keris clan there, and so that was where they had decided that they would settle.

As soon as they had trades with other clans established, they had their building materials sent in and they built their village. This village, they decided, would be small and would allow for the members of the clan to live close to each other. This was how they wanted it to be as they didn’t think that they should be to far apart, this being because they had wandered for so long, and now they wanted to make sure they stayed closer to each other. After their village was established, the clan had decided that they would try to farm animals in hopes that in doing so they could improve the state of the fields.

Since they weren’t in any way a naturalist clan, they weren’t quite sure what they were doing. They had animals brought in after they had built the pens for them, and they started their farming journey. When they had brought the animals there, they didn’t realize that they would fall in love with being able to take care of the animals. They found that taking care of the animals had given them purpose, but since they could only tend to them at night, they had found it hard to bond with the animals since that was when they were usually sleeping. So, they found a way to change the routines of the animals so that they could have them awake more at night, and so they were able to bond with the animals.

With each of the animals that they had chosen to farm, they made sure that there was something that they could use from the animals. While they weren’t able to eat anything the animals produced, they ensured that they were able to get something from them that they could use. They would turn any milk into lotion that they could use to keep their hands soft since they were working hard each any every day. Animals that had ended up passing away were turned into clothing, and meat was used for animals that needed meat to survive. The Keris clan had always found a way to adapt each challenge they faced with their farm, and so they were able to grow it bigger and bigger and had always remained prosperous.

Psychology

Since the members of the clan had wandered for so long, they had developed an unhealthy attachment to each other. They had spent so long trying to keep each other alive that they didn’t want to go long without each other, and so once they made their village, they built their homes close to each other. This allowed them to always be surrounded by their friends and clan mates, and this meant that they weren’t going to be alone. When they had started their farm, many of the members of the clan had chosen to do their tasks in groups, wanting to keep close to each other, even if the task was only meant for one person to do.

This had caused some issues as the tasks would take longer to complete and it would cause the rest of the tasks to be behind. As time went on and the rest of the clan slowly adapted to being on their own to complete some of their tasks, and they learned that being on their own for a while was good for them. They enjoyed the silence and being able to bond with the animals by themselves. Many of them had taken to hogging the tasks that would allow them to be by themselves, as this would mean that they would be able to be alone for most of the day.

Eventually, the Keris clan fell into a comfortable routine. They would go about their jobs peacefully, and by the end of the night, they would come together to eat and spend the rest of their wakeful times together. They would eat the blood rations that they had, and they would talk about their tasks, many times trying to figure out how they would be able to improve them or add to them, so they were able to be done faster. Sometimes there would be debates about if they could add more animals to the farm, and if they would be able to handle taking care of all of them.

There were some that already believed that they had enough animals, while others believed that they could afford to have some more. The ones that believed that they could have more would try to convince the rest of the clan that if they allowed newer animals that they could expand their business. And the ones that thought they had enough animals believed that they didn’t need to take on anymore hardship. These debates had become something that they didn’t want to have, but they continued them so that there was always more than one opinion within their clan.

It was believed by everyone that there should always be more opinions as that would ensure that everyone had a voice. They would take into consideration how everyone felt about matters before anything was decided, and that would ensure that the best choice was made for the clan. While there weren’t always happy members, they knew that the choices were made in the best interest of the clan.

Biology

Biologically, the Keris clan held a lot of muscle. Since they were farmers, they had a lot of muscle built up from lifting things and having to carry them to where they needed to be. While there were carts and other small helping devices that they could use, these would only serve to help them to carry more when they would be able to without them. This meant that the kin’toni from the Keris clan had a lot more muscle than an average kin’toni would. Their skin was bumpy and scarred their work, as oftentimes they would end up injuring themselves even just doing simple jobs.

Sometimes, there were animals that would fight back against them, and some would end up killed. Other times they would end up so injured that they would have to seek proper medical attention and would have to take a break from working until they were properly healed. Because of the extent of their injuries, some of the members of the Keris clan had ended up partially disfigured, but nothing that happened to them was able to stop them from working. While there were some that had lost limbs when they were working, this had not been able to stop them from working and going right back to the same jobs that they had been doing when they were injured.

They didn’t believe that they should have to stop working because they had been injured as they knew that they were responsible for taking care of the animals. So instead, they had decided to adapt to having less limbs, but they always made sure that they were still able to complete their jobs. Because of their work ethic, the Keris clan faced a shorter lifespan, their lives cut short as they were always out working. Some were killed by the animals that they worked with, while others would simply work until they weren’t able to live anymore.

They believed that this was their normal and that they shouldn’t be lazy and stay home when there was work to be done. When these members did pass, they would hold a short funeral and talk about how hard working that member had been, and how they were proud of them for being so good at what they did. They would never spend long there because they knew that they had work to get back to, and so funerals would never take more than an hour.

With the members with disabilities because of their injuries, if there was ever a time when they needed help moving around, or if they were unable to walk, they would accept help from whichever clan member was available to help them. Usually, they wouldn’t want to inconvenience the other members of the clan by not being able to move as they used to, but it was known that there was always a job that could be done, no matter how disabled someone was, and so each clan member was always able to find something to occupy their time, regardless of how they were able to do it.

Culture

Since the Keris clan was so hard working, they had dedicated everything that they did to their farm. No matter what they were doing, they were making sure that they were doing it in the best interest of the farm. This meant that funerals were cut short because there were chores that needed to get done, weddings were quick and would usually only have immediate family members, and that there weren’t many holidays or other celebrations. When there were events that needed tending to, the clan would make sure that the event moved quickly so that they could go back to doing what they needed to do.

The clan didn’t want to hold off on their tasks because something else needed their attention, and so everything that they did that wasn’t working on their farm was fairly rushed. When there were trades that had to take place, there were certain members of the clan that took it upon themselves to accomplish the trades. They would make sure that they had everything they needed before they would go to meet up because they wanted to make sure the trade went smoothly and quickly.

The Keris clan members wouldn’t spend their time talking to the other clans that they would trade with because they knew that would take away valuable time from the other tasks that they would still have to complete when they went back. Each clan member had a list of tasks that they would have to complete on a daily basis, but they would also take on other tasks that weren’t needing to be done on a daily basis. These other tasks were things like the trades needing to get done or going to fetch animals that had broken out of their pens and were loose in the fields.

The clan members had a set schedule for their usual tasks, completing them in set time frames each day as that made it easier for them to remember when things needed to be done, and how long it would take to complete each task. The Keris clan had always prided themselves on how much they would get done each day, as many other clans that they had encountered would comment and say that they weren’t able to get as much done as the Keris clan was able to. Because of their work ethic, the Keris clan believed that things like government issues and politics was something that wasn’t as important to tend to as their farm animals.

Since this was how they viewed government issues, they didn’t have much of one, and this caused them to be behind on advances that other clans had made. although this was something that they had deemed as important, they also knew that they eventually had to sit down and sort through their politics, but they would also push their politics to the side and rush through them so that they could go back to the farm.

Government

As previously stated, the Keris clan had next to no regard for their government issues. They would speed through everything that they did within the clan and would assume that any issues they had would resolve themselves over time. Because there were so many things that the members of the clan would need to do, they hadn’t even thought about appointing anyone to run their government. They thought that they would just talk about the issues that they had and that the issue would seemingly go away on its own over time. Because of this however, they were severely behind technologically, as they had no time to work through the issues that they had and would end up settling for the fixes that they already had.

This meant that they hadn’t fully fixed their issues, and instead had deemed them unworthy of their time. When there were issues that came up between the members of the clan, they would usually be left to deal with it themselves, as the other members were usually quite busy with what they were doing at the time. Because of the fights being so small, there had never been an outright law made for what should happen when the fights would get out of hand. The clan members who were fighting would usually just go back to their jobs as they knew that they were more important.

If there ever was a fight that would break out, and it resulted in one member killing another, they would usually end up turning themselves in. Since there were no leaders of the clan, they would talk to someone else and tell them what they had done, and together they would figure out the proper consequences. If a member had gone on a killing spree and refused to turn themselves in, the other members of the clan would band together to catch this member and they would end up executing them so that they couldn’t hurt or kill anyone else.

Since the Keris clan was a farming clan, they hadn’t felt the need to appoint any sort of military to protect them, but there were still members of the clan that felt the need to practice sword skills in case anything happened. They would add these practices to the end of their chores so that they wouldn’t take up the time that they needed to do their chores. While they knew that they weren't appointed, the members of the self-proclaimed military had decided that they were the protectors of the clan, and that their safety was their responsibility.

As time went on, the ways of the Keris clan had stayed the same. There wasn’t anything that they felt the need to change about their ways, and they didn’t want to add any laws as they were always so busy that they believed that they didn’t need laws within their clan.

Military

As it had been previously stated, there was a group of kin’toni in the clan that decided that they would be the military of the clan. They vowed that they were going to protect the members of the clan, as well as still be able to take care of their chores around the farm. This was something that was easier said than done, as the only time that the military of the clan was able to train and practice their sword skills was after all of their chores were done. This would only leave them with a short time frame to complete what they needed to before the sun would start to come up and they would need to go back to their homes.

However, they had to make time to train together after their chores so that they were able to protect their clan as best they could. Since there wasn’t a lot of crime that happened within the clan, or there weren’t many attacks that would take place, there wasn’t a lot for the military to do. Sometimes they would have to take care of members of the clan that had gone mad and were murdering others. Since they were the strongest and most able kin’toni in the clan that would have to do what they could to protect everyone.

This meant executing kin’toni that were actively trying to hurt others or ensuring that their clan was safe when attacks would take place. Since they had appointed themselves, the military never truly had a certain agenda that they had to follow. They would make their own schedules to train and when they needed to, they would get together. There weren’t any higher ups in the military as they didn’t feel the need to have anyone ordering everyone else around and would instead listen to each other’s ideas and would incorporate them into what they were doing.

As well, they had to teach themselves how to use the swords that they had, not having any formal training when they had been given to them. They found the weapons themselves, and taught themselves how to use them, and perfected their technique. They forged their own armour from the skin of the animals they farmed and would use the same skins to add grips to their weapons, each time ensuring that they were stronger and easier to use. When there were attacks on the clan, the military would mobilize as quickly as they could, and they would use the form that they had learned together to protect their clan.

They would shout their plans to each other in a way that was confusing for others, but that they knew well enough to determine where they were supposed to be, and which attacks they would use. They were a well-established group, and they were able to carry out their attacks with fluidity and grace. While the weren’t the best fighters, they were usually able to handle themselves, and they wouldn’t usually lose any of their members while they were fighting.

Religion

Since the members of the clan felt the need to be constantly working on their farm, they didn’t hold a lot of religious beliefs. They were so busy day in and day out that they thought of taking time to worship a god hadn’t occurred to them, and so they wouldn’t pray or practice any sort of religious activities. While they were working outside, they would talk amongst themselves and would wonder if they should pray or worship any gods. They knew of some that were supposed to be good with helping animals grow, but they wouldn’t pray to them as while they thought it was a good idea, and that it would still take up far too much time.

Thus, they would only ever end up talking about new religions instead of enacting them. Since the start of the clan, back when everyone was still zu’aan, there was always talks of religion and gods. When they were wandering around trying to find a home for themselves, some of the members would pray to themselves quietly asking for a hole to show up, asking for signs that they were on the right path to getting what they needed. Many of the members wouldn’t share that they were praying as it was known that the clan didn’t pray or have any set beliefs.

Once the infection had turned the clan into kin’toni, and they had found their home, they had quickly gotten too busy to even talk about having a religion anymore. This was a sad time for some of the members that had prayed that they would find a home, but they didn’t bring up their concerns because of the beliefs of the rest of the clan. Instead, they decided that they would keep their beliefs to themselves and quietly bring up the gods that they believed up to the other members of the clan to see what they thought of it all. The members of the clan that did believe that there was a higher power would take it upon themselves to pray on their own.

They would keep quiet about their praying, and they would do it when they had their own free moments. Because they understood how important it was to work first, they wouldn’t make a show of when they prayed, instead choosing to find quiet places that they would feel more comfortable praying in. Occasionally, there were times when members of the clan would find another member praying, but since it wasn’t wrong, and they usually weren't distracting themselves from their chores, they would just leave the member be, and they would go back to doing their own chores.

Religion wasn’t much talked about throughout their clan, and so if any members had decided to partake in it, they would be on their own in doing so. Even if other members were interested, they wouldn’t want to ask about it as they would assume that it would get in the way of their chores, and so they would avoid it as much as they could.
