History

The Hraniagu zu'aan clan were founded by a ranger hailing from the Eliasaam Cataract Bog region named Precnem Procuus. He was known for his deep knowledge of the regions geography as well as his ability to predict the weather and track the wildlife of the region. He would become a regular wanderer of the Eliasaam bogs after the loss of both his employment and family to a native attack. These attacks were rumored to be conducted by people from his own tribe which was the reason Precnem swallowed his ego and desire for vengeance and headed out into the bogs.

Over time, his following would grow and include members from all over the region. He preached a new philosophy- calling for peace, unity and progress. His message found many takers among the mercantile classes who suffered the most under the reckless violence that engulfed the whole region. His teachings were carried by these traders and spread all along their routes, bringing more people to his flock. His teachings attracted the teachings of a powerful tribal Lord named Emancix.

The leader came to Precnen with the hopes of learning more about this new religion. Inspired by the teachings, he would invite Precnem into his court as an advisor, Under his guidance, Emancix would oversee a period of cultural revolution for his tribe, changing them from a warring clan to a more peaceful and diplomatic group. The progress that the change in mentality did for his clan would further lead to the spread of Precnam's message. Emancix died a premature death at the age of thirty-five from liver complications.

He would pass on the leadership of the clan to Precnem on his deathbed, instructing him to guide the tribe as he saw fit. Precnam's first set of changes included a renaming of the group into the Hraniagu zu'aan clan. He instituted reforms meant for the promotion of trade and contact with different cultures around the region. He continued his peaceful preaching but started a pragmatic approach to the clan's security. He devoted a hefty share of the Hraniagu clan’s profits to the construction of defenses and the recruitment and training of a professional army.

Under his rule, the Hraniagu would establish themselves as an economic powerhouse with a far-reaching trade network that reached out to all corners of the region. Their advanced society was the envy of all clans, with people coming from all over the world as tourists and students- hoping to learn from the Great Precnem himself. Hraniagu society was built around the principle of morals and self-respect. The Hraniagu had the most comprehensive laws on private property and possessions.

This directly facilitated trade and mercantile activities in the region. They were effectively reinforced by an able police force and stringent punishments that included expulsion from the clan. Their society was free and the citizens were not compelled to join the military or labor against their will. The clan would successfully repel many kin’toni siees during the kin’toni outbreak but at a massive cost to their treasury and defensive structures which were barely standing by the end. The clan also sustained a lot of casualties during the era which would take centuries to replenish.

Psychology

The Hraniagu psychology was deeply influenced by the teachings of Precnem Procuus which preached of peace, unity and progress. Their belief in their leader translated to a strict adherence to his teachings. The Hraniagu were known for their calm temperament and composure. There are many humorous accounts of the Hraniagu being impervious to the taunting words of drunken patrons. They had the mental fortitude to refuse fights even when provoked incessantly. This attitude was also visible in their conduction of diplomacy and interactions, where they would look for solutions for even the most unsalvageable conditions and conflicts.

The Hraniagu had a natural aversion to violence and would always look for another way out before resorting to violence. They believed that violence only led to the escalation of problems and were willing to work through their problems and issues with other clans. They were known for their mercantile attitudes and their reverence for the skills associated with it. This included a love of interaction and socializing with others and a love of conversation and negotiations. They would hone these skills through their social gatherings and meetings where they would meet many other members of their own clan.

They kept records and took a deep interest in studying and mastering the calculations and economics associated with their business. They loved knowledge and were always on the lookout for opportunities to learn new information. Their clan had a very well-made system of education that handled both the mental and spiritual aspects of an individual. The Hraniagu were known for their belief in their leaders and their deep love for the clan. They considered it their responsibility as clan members to maintain the integrity of the clan.

It was built into their psychology to have a deep reverence for the clan and any of their clan members. The Hraniagu also had an innate desire for justice and fair play. Nothing irked them more than to witness a crime or injustice be committed in front of them without punishment. Thus, the clan would give each of their citizen the freedom to air their disagreements and complaints in front of their clan leader. The person case would be heard before the clan and he or she would be given a fair trial after.

The clan also prized their freedoms and were not willing to give any leader the power to compel a clan member into any mandatory military or civil service. This policy of freedom to decide one's trade was also a major reason for the development of trade as many people chose to become merchants to avoid serving in military actions. The Hraniagu were very insecure and suspicious of their neighbors and surroundings. They believed that they were always under threat and their lack of military merit also contributed to their insecurity.

This led them to devote a large sum of their profits from trade and produce towards their defensive efforts in anticipation of an attack. Their efforts wouldn’t go to waste as their fortifications would be vital to their constant repelling of the kin’toni attacks.

Culture

The Hraniagu zu'aan clan's culture was heavily influenced by the teachings of Precnem Procuus. His teachings were heavily influenced by a belief in peace, unity and progress which became the adopted motto of the Hraniagu zu'aan clan. They prided themselves in their strict adherence to this code and believed themselves to be one of the most civilized zu'aan clans in the world. They considered it their responsibility as clan members to maintain the integrity of the clan. It was embedded into their culture to have a deep reverence for the clan and any of their clan members.

They loved to socialize and interact, and their culture encouraged these through regular get-togethers and festivals where all members of the clan could come together and interact with each other while also enjoying each other company and building their bond within the clan. Their culture had very developed ideas of liberty and justice, and the clan tried their best to assure each member a fair trial under their systems. Nothing irked them more than to witness a crime or injustice be committed in front of them without punishment.

Thus, the clan would give each of their citizen the freedom to air their disagreements and complaints in front of their clan leader. They were known for their mercantile culture and their reverence for the skills associated with it. This included a love of interaction and socializing with others and a love of conversation and negotiations. They would hone these skills through their social gatherings and meetings where they would meet many other members of their own clan.

Trading accounted for a major part of the clan’s activities. They were widely known among the rest of the zu’aan for this particular activity and also led to the development of many stereotypes of the Hraniagu as merchants and traders. They were well traveled as a result of their culture and well versed in the geography as well as the traditions of many of the different clans that surrounded them. Their fondness for travel and geography were also a byproduct of the life and teachings of their founder Precnem ,who was known for his deep knowledge of geography, weather conditions and tracking of both wildlife, zu’aan and kin’toni.

They had a very open and inquisitive nature that was encouraged by their culture. Thus, every season would see the embarking of some scouts, explorers and traders to distant corners of the world in search of new territories and people to trade and interact with. The Hraniagu culture valued education and learning. They used a highly developed form of the zu'aan language with their own form of writing and grammar that was distinct from the rest of the zu'aan in the region.

They kept a lot of records and writings and would spread them to other regions through their trading activities. This led to a dissemination of their culture to many different corners of the world. Their travelling and exploration were also not done solely for the purpose of trade and were mostly done with an eye on learning new knowledge from other cultures.

Government

The Hraniagu zu'aan government functioned with a single leader and a group of officials underneath, who could challenge his/her decision on most matters. The first such leader was their founder, Precnem Procuus. She created this system after careful consideration and referendum involving the entire clan. The structure was carefully constructed, keeping in mind the beliefs and ideals of the Hraniagu and Precnem's own teachings. The government was built to stress on the principles of peace, unity and progress which were a major component of his preaching and also the clan's beliefs of liberty and justice.

The government was not militaristic like most zu’aan clans; instead, it sought to engage other clans in interactions and diplomacy. They limited hostilities and were more focused on their own development and issues that were within their clan. The government was responsible for negotiating agreements for trade and commerce, so that the traders of the Hraniagu could then engage these new parties for the mutual benefit of all parties involved. The government promoted unity by regularly hosting large festivals and get-togethers for the entire clan to participate in.

This led to the strengthening of the bonds between members of the clan and their unity. The government was also responsible for taking the lead in the clan’s progress. This was done by creation of mandatory education policies and improving the standard of life within the clan. Their society was free and the citizens were not compelled to join the military or labor against their will. In order to promote justice within the clan, the government gave each citizen the freedom to air their disagreements and complaints in front of the clan leader.

The person case would be heard before the clan and he or she would be given a fair trial after. The government also instituted measures to protect the freedoms of the clan. A leader could not compel any clan member into any mandatory military or civil service. These jobs were delegated to professionals who were properly compensated for their services. Since a majority of the Hraniagu’s membership consisted of traders, the government had to cater to the development and growth of this class.

They had the most comprehensive laws on private property and possessions to directly facilitate trade and mercantile activities in the region. They were effectively enforced by an able police force along with stringent punishments for violators, that included expulsion from the clan. The government also took the lead in the defense of the region and their clan. Precnem, their founder would set the bar in this regard, when he started the construction of defenses all around the perimeter of their settlements to secure them from any outsider attack or wandering bands of kin'toni.

Military

The Hraniagu were not a particularly militaristic clan and had very limited interest in such matters. This was because of the clan's belief in the ideals of peace and progress and their overwhelming preoccupation with trade and commerce. Their society was progressive and idealistic- and their citizens could not be enforced to join the military by force or through mandatory recruitment schemes. These factors combined to make the military a neglected sector for much of the Hraniagu's history until they were forced to adapt to the changing conditions of the kin'toni outbreak.

The outbreak changed the entire military scenario of the region as it brought in the genetically created kin'toni who were deadly predators, capable of overpowering zu'aan under most circumstances. These kin'toni overran zu'aan city after city and created widespread panic and hysteria among the population, who began to flee to more deserted and isolated regions to escape the onslaught. This sudden migration of many zu'aan clans led to more competition for land and an increase in hostilities amongst the desperate zu'aan.

The Hraniagu themselves, were forced to take a more pragmatic approach to the issue of their military and security as more incursions began to occur in their lands and the kin'toni slowly began to make their way towards their settlements. Under Precnem, the clan would begin to recruit a professional military composed of trained and motivated soldiers who were recruited from all over the region and from among man smaller tribes and clans. This army was well equipped and provided with the best training available along with a payment for their service.

These units would become the backbone of the Hraniagu's defensive efforts during the era of the kin'toni outbreaks. These individuals were not mercenaries who were recruited only for their service. They were given citizenship and allowed to settle their family within the security of the Hraniagu's lands. The Hraniagu military were equipped with weapons crafted from quality materials which were durable and could withstand tough field conditions along with constant exposure to the elements.

They were procured from all the best weapon makers that the Hraniagu came into contact with through their trading activities. The government as well as many traders and merchants among the clan took it upon themselves to obtain these military supplies for the good of the clan. Their superior equipment and elite training allowed the Hraniagu’s military to overcome their limited numbers and carry out the successful defense of the clan for the duration of the kin’toni outbreak.

Due to their limited numbers, the military had to be very shrewd and decisive in choosing its battles. They built tall and heavy-set walls all around their settlement which were constantly manned and surrounded by progressive circles of traps and thick mud that could grind any advancing army to a halt. These defensive structures allowed them to hide their numerical disadvantage and fight most of their opponents from their superior position atop these walls. It was rare for the army to venture out into the open land or fight in field battles since they would easily be overwhelmed by any kin'toni horde.

Religion

The Hraniagu zu'aan clan were very spiritual individuals and believed in many principles that were taught by their founder Precnem Procuus. He occupied a revered position among the Hraniagu locals, with some of them even worshipping him as a diety. The history of his rise to this position began with his historic arrival among the tribes of the Eliasaam bogs as a wandering preacher. His teachings would gain him a huge number of followers and would lead him to a local lord named Emancix who accepted him as his teacher.

Under his guidance, Emancix would oversee a period of cultural revolution for his tribe, changing them from a warring clan to a more peaceful and diplomatic group. The progress that the change in mentality did for the clan would further lead to the spread of Precnam's message. Emancix died a premature death at the age of thirty-five after passing on the leadership of the clan to Precnem on his deathbed- instructing him to guide the tribe as he saw fit. He would combine the tribe along with his massive following into the Hraniagu zu'aan clan.

They would be led by Precnem according to the principles of his preaching. He instituted reforms meant for the promotion of trade and contact with different cultures around the region. Precnem's preaching stressed on the ideals of peace, progress and progress. He had already witnessed enough bloodshed and violence and had personally suffered the loss of his family at the hands of an angry mob. The experience would lead to him renouncing violence and preaching the same to his followers.

His teachings were eagerly received by the population who were mostly composed of non-violent mercantile and trader classes who wanted to ply their trade in peace. He began to be perceived as an enlightened teacher and led to a further increase in both his reputation and his following among the people of the region. His teachings would usher in a period of prosperity once he assumed control of the clan. Trade and interactions flourished and the clan's city would become both a religious center and a commercial hub.

Precnem's stature would increase after his death when he began to be idolized and worshipped as a god. The city would be littered with many inscriptions of his teachings and many sculptures were created in his likeness. The people eagerly brought these sculpted reminders of their former leader and adorned their houses with it. They prayed to the idols for peace, prosperity and relief from the kin’toni who continued to stalk their lands. Precnem’s teachings and principles continued to survive long after his death.

However, peace was no longer a possibility given the chaotic conditions of the world after the kin’toni outbreak. Their beliefs would go through reformations and the clan would eventually accept violence as a legitimate means to ensure the survival of the clan.
