Geography

Haetran is a low lying marshland that was mostly covered with mangroves. It had a vast marsh and deadly quicksand ready to engulf helpless victims into a slow and painful death. It is bounded by roaring sea and rocky mountains which serve as the natural fort for the inhabitant tribes. The marsh is mostly covered with snow with the wet areas frozen into deadly black ice with zero friction. The mangrove roots when covered with thick ice have transformed into small cavities that serve as hiding places for kin'toni and home for the surviving fauna.

Chilly cold weather is often accompanied by snowstorms that are often violent and unforgiving. The Kintonis mostly live near the hills and have outposts on the mountain tops. The mountains are draped in pale-white snow with massive rocks protruding out that serve as checkpoints for the Kint'oni warriors. These mountains are also used by the clans to train their finest warriors in the hazardous conditions that prepare them for the worst. The Haetran chemical factory that once stood gorgeously tall is now seen as a tall black ruin.

Pale yellow smoke is still seen blasting out of its mysterious chimneys that penetrate the clouds. This smoke is the source of the toxic pale snow that falls all year round on the deadly marshland of Haetran. The land is mostly barren with strange purple trees funneling out to the sky at intervals. The snow is thick at most of the places with slippery ice at places that accommodate brooks and rivers in the old Fen. The weather here is mostly cold with temperatures falling as low as -50 degrees during winter. Chilly frost winds freeze almost anything upon contact.

The pathways in Haetran are generally the thrashed remains of the old zu'aan highways that were used by the empire to transport soldiers from the training camps to the ports of The Vile coast which was barely three quintons from Haetran. These paths were now covered with ice but the regular movement of kin'toni warriors made narrow footpaths that could be used to trace their way back home. The pale snow mixed with the purple mold forms deadly quicksands that ensure painful death to the helpless victims that fall in it.

Most of the areas in Haetran are covered with purple trees but the Gonari caves have other forms of the fatal fauna which ranges from small helpless herbs to large carnivorous plants. The soil below the snow has only some nutrition hence the only reliable source of nutrition in this part of Terael is hunting and killing the weaker ones and feeding off the scant plants that live there. Overall Haetran is a marsh that is not a marsh anymore, it is a breeding ground for most of the diseases in this part of Terael .

It is rumored that the mad scientists of Taerel picked most of the ingredients used to mutate the virus that caused the outbreak. Overall it can be said that Haetran is the rotten fruit of this area of Terael where the climate is as unforgiving as its inhabitants.

Plants

Plants in Haetran have mutated into something very peculiar. The trees are not living but not dead as well. These are generally old trees that once stood in the lush green marshes of Haetran. The chemicals have turned them into weird structures that neither grow nor fall. Small herbs and plants have turned into deadly thorny bushes with thorns loaded with toxins.

Korats: These are the most prominent in the region, these trees are as tall as 100 meters and have a purple bark. The leaves have been replaced by spikey twigs and their purpose is unknown. No snow sticks to these trees as they are creepingly slippery. No animals can climb them and they serve no purpose whatsoever other than just reflecting the empty soul of the dead marshland of Haetran.

Paninis: These are small bushes generally growing under rocks as they have no self-defense against the toxic snow. Purple Mold (kifi) This is a kind of mutated regular mold that grows near the purple korat trees which were earlier believed to be secretions of the korats but later found out to be a completely different organism; a highly toxic mold.

These molds are purple and spread at a steady rate. They flourish under freezing cold conditions and wipe out nearby life indiscriminately. kin'toni coat their spears and arrows with this mold to make them deadly. The kin'toni do not die to this toxin but it does have acidic effects on them making them hallucinate and overdoses can cause them to pass out. Kifi is banned in many kin'toni clans.

Treril These are small carnivorous plants that feed on roaches and rodents that stray too near to them and off the soil. These plants generally get eaten by the larger lifeforms, these lifeforms, even the though they eat plants, can be hostile to kin'toni and zu'aan. These plants are usually repelled by the scent of kin'toni and have pores below the main shaft that secrete a greenish-yellow fluid that attracts small animals in the region. The animals are slightly hypnotized by the patterns on the plant and do not tend to run away in its close proximity allowing it to catch its prey.

Toroth These are larger versions of treril and can catch large size prey even fully grown zu'aan. These do not attack kin'toni and are mainly active during the night.

Pildas These are small plants similar to korats but bear bright magnificent purple-white flowers that have a pungent smell. It is a mutated version of the zu'aan medicinal plant paldas which were used to cure cancerous tumors before the outbreak. These were also a subject of research for the mad scientists of zu'aan. These plants have tentacles hidden below the attractive flowers that open up on the sensation of a foreign object.

The tentacles latch on to helpless victims and release a highly toxic substance under their skin which slowly melts their internal organs and turns it into a fluid that is sucked in by the pores on the tentacles. These plants are harmless to kin'toni and almost harmless to zu'aan. It causes numbness to zuans in the area of contact is widely used by them as tranquilizers.

Animals

Animals in the Haetran are as chilling and unforgiving as the place itself. From swift lemur-like chichinkas to slow but deadly furats everything is ready for hunting at every possible time. Sleep had left Haetran with the greenery and sleeping here means death. All the categories of animals found in Haetran are listed below.

Chichinkas- These are small but furious little lemur-like creatures who balance their strength with speed. With sharp venom loaded nails poking out of bony fingers these creatures like to bite and run and then return later to harvest the fruits of their labor. Their venom is slow but deadly, it means certain death and starts affecting even through the thick hard skin of Haetran creatures. They mostly eat plants and creatures when they can get hold of them, mostly old or weak or sick creatures.

Furats: Furats are are slow turtle-like creatures that descend from the mutated tortoises which were prevalent in these regions. They do not attack or run but mostly just creep through the snow flooded land. Their shells have turned into sticky Gooey substances that stick to any living creature that lands on them. Their size ranging from 1 meter to 1.5 meters can catch creatures like chichinkas stepping on their shell. They do not have any mouth but have photochromatic organs on the top of their heads. The creature stuck to their shells is slowly digested in days while still alive for the first few hours of digestion when the poison takes over their bodies.

Creis: These are small bugs that run swiftly through the pale snow of Haetran giving its hills the famous creis stripes which are used by the Kintonis to identify checkpoints. These bugs have a large head and thin sticky legs. They usually climb the korats at night to escape predators and descend during the day to group hunt for small animals and microbes and to find plants to feed on. They are sometimes seen feeding on the corpses of fallen kin'toni warriors and other dead animals. The creis hunt in groups and have dormant wings that they can not use to fly.

But at night they flap these wings really fast making a loud humming noise to communicate during the night. Creis are scavengers of Haetran and there is nothing that these creatures do not eat.

Bereli: Bereli are wolves of Haetran which are excellently equipped with hunting tools. From fierce deadly jaws with a bone crushing grip to long skinny legs with flaps at the feet to help them run on snow with ease. The breathing organ is located on the shoulders with a large opening to breathe faster during the hunt. They usually travel in packs and howl like regular wolves during the night at the three moons of Terael .

Khilla: Khilla is the only aerial predator of Haetran. With featherless wings formed by stretched skin, these flyers are extremely swift and agile. Their wing tips have fangs that are used by them to transfer poison inside their prey. They shoot like a dart towards their prey and join wings to form the shape of an arrow. The tips enter even the hardest skins and deliver lethal quantities of poison inside the prey's body. They have ultrasonic sensors on the tips of their head and no eyes.

Breathing organs are located under wings to facilitate defrosting wings after a chilling flight.
