Sand dwellers. This tribe live in caverns beneath the desert, ascending only in search of zu'aan blood.

History

When the Chraflye tribe were taken over by the kin'toni sickness they were shantie town dwellers in the Outskirts of the Nebula City, a sprawling mass of chaos. Shunned by society there, many of their numbers were destroyed by people fearing for their lives. The Chraflye were originally an impoverished community and many of them had addiction problems or severe illness and sickness, so after they became kin'toni they were still somewhat weeker then a lot of other bloodsuckers and more easily destroyed by their enemies. Fearing for their very existances they escaped from the city and went deep into the desert.

Burrowing into the ground where they found a labrynth of ancient stone catacombs left by ancient people from a civilisation long since dead and forgotton about. They huddled in this place in the mass of what was left of their tribe, only venturing to ascend to the level above the sand every now and again when in search of zu'aan blood, usually when the starvation had got to be too much for them. Usually they would send a small number of their tribe up to hunt and they would share the blood equally amoungst themselves in small, but equal measures, barely enough to keep them sustained.

Due to their previous existence as living entities they were well used to malnutrition, it had been a way of life for them and even in the process of evolving into the a vampiric state of being, the patterns of which they were used to in their own lives shaped their newer existence as it has with all clans, which is why they are all so unique. After some time the populas of the Nebula city began to notice that people were going missing from their outskirts and the army was sent to investigate. Luckily for the clan a few scouts noticed the enemy approaching nearer and they were able to warn the rest and they readied themselves for war.

A fierce battle broke out and many of their number died. They slaughtered the zu'aan faction and immediately held council. It was deemed unsafe for them to stay in this land so they began to excavate the tunnel system further blocked up the way they had come with rubble to bar any entry for the outside. This became their new life, digging underground for hundreds of miles until they found themselves in a new land that would be far away from civilisation and yet close enough to the outskirts of potential zu'aan blood sources. They would occupy this dwelling and capture zu'aan in small amounts over a prolonged period of time.

Until their scouts deemed it unsafe to stay there and then they would move on once more in search of safer places to abode for a while longer, always barricading the way they had came. Over the decades they have been involved in small battles and skirmishes with zu'aan and their numbers have dwindled. They don’t tend to fight with other clans and make it a rule to stay away from marked territories. Survival is all they care about. They have no ego and no grand desires for power. Their ideal existence is to be left alone and take zu'aan blood when they can get it.

Biology

Dark blue irises with black sclerae and crescent pupils They are a sickly race and easily destroyed. They take a long time to recover from wounds and battle sores (Long for a kin'toni anyway) and sometimes it can be up to three days for them to recover from a knife or spear wound. They are often short of breath and speech with a slow rasping sound. They move very slowly and are generally lethargic and week. The smallest amount of direct sunlight can destroy them. Usually a spear through the heart will also destroy them, though the more resilient of them will require a beheading.

Due to their slow nature and weak physicality’s, they need to sleep for 12 hours to recover their energies. During this time they have no awareness and can be easily destroyed. Their internal organs are on the exterior rubbery in texture yet inside this you will see a dark sea weed type substance that suggest that their bodies had rotted during the metamorphosis and then mummified by the process. Their blood is green and their skin is hard and caloused. When exposed to sunlight they begin to sweat so profusely that green blood spurts out of their pores. If they stay in sunlight for too long the entire system starts to fail.

And they will bleed until they collapse. They will need zu'aan sustenance to retrieve their energies enough so that they can get to safer areas and begin the recovery process, which can take up to five days. Their skin although it has a hard exterior and has some callouses and markings and is hard to cut though, the tissue beneath is weak and soft. Their bodies are not very durable, once you cut though the hard skin, and break easily from either weapons penetration or injury. They have acute hearing and a sixth sense, which has been heightened by their deep seated need for survival and often need to take flight quickly.

It is best for their health to avoid violence if possible. Their breathing patterns improve when they are in the dark and underground where the air is moist. They are resistant to the cold of the desert night, even the coldest nights not bothering them. They are able to live on little water and food. They need about a quarter of the intake of water that other kin'toni clans need.

They are able to store excess calories as fat, making them able to last a long time between feedings, as long as they gorge themselves at each feeding.

Culture

The Chraflye Kin'toni Clan are a slow people, suspicious of anything or anyone outside of their clan. They spend much time hiding in the caverns beneath the sand. Being physically impaired they tend to occupy themselves with things that take as little energy as possible. They communicate with each other and talk about their existence and general things that concern the clan but they typically do not get overly excited or show any signs of emotion that could overheat their systems and cause tiredness in anyway. They have developed a language that uses less words then how they had spoken before they were turned into this vampiric state.

They have even developed words that do not incorporate speech and can be said with the blink of an eye or a raised eyebrow, or a slow nod. They try not to have opinions about unimportant things and let political decisions be made by those higher in command. Their reason being to conserve as much energy as possible. They are usually in a state of malnutrition and weakness so the least amount of exertions the better.

The stronger and more resilient of the tribe are elected to hold official positions that will benefit the clan. Military personnel, government officials, physicians. They do not usually have many warriors as they see it as a needless waste of vital body flow energy. The strongest of the strong are given the opportunity to take this path if they wish it. They hold the position of physicians very highly in the clan as this is of real service to them, especially as most of them suffer from illness’ brought on by malnutrition and general defects in their physical forms.

It is an occupation they see as important and positive, something that has value. Usually clans folk who show great intelligence and high levels of concentration and resilient in energy are given the opportunity to work as physicians. They very rarely have new ones. Only when one of their numbers meets with a terrible accident or is destroyed in one of the few battles they are forced to engage in. Their culture is built on fear and their never ending need for survival by flight, as they are never strong enough to defend them selves from kin'toni more powerful then they.

Government

The clan is run by a panel of 12 ELDERS. These are the most wise of their numbers who were appointed in a fair voting by the rest of the populous. The twelve are clans people who are thought to display extreme intelligence, historical knowledge of the clan and their place in the world, geographical knowledge and an understanding of strategy. The task befalls upon them to make the important decisions of where and the clan should travel to next and how to get their safely. They have council on a daily basis and consult with the warrior scouts who watch the outside.

In times of when zu'aan blood is in limited supply they are given it first as the tribe deem it highly important that the decision makers brains are kept strong and functioning. The clan is presided over by THE GREAT ELDER, a woman considered to be the oldest of them as she is many years aged beyond the others even before she became a kin'toni. Also she has consigned all the great knowledge and histories of the clan inside here brain and recites stories on a daily basis at every moment to make sure she does not forget any of the stories of the life that has befallen them.

It is the job of The Great Elder to gather as much knowledge as possible so that she can make informed judgement for the clans next steps from a combined strategy of understanding the world outside, understanding and dissecting the clans past. She often makes slow decisions and spends her day reciting the old tales, studying lore, conversing with the Twelve Elders and making valuable decisions that will affect the clan. She is a highly respected leader. They do not pass any laws for the clan as they do not need them. There is only some crime or conflict within the clan as this is deemed to be too energy draining.

Any highly strung emotions such as anger, hate, aggression are felt to be inappropriate and also pointless, serving no function or assistance to the greater good of the clan. There is however a voting sytem during times of struggle. If they are faced with a big dilemma or a ‘clan emmergency’ the Twelve will bring the options to the populous and they are allowed to vote simply for ‘YES’ or ‘NO’. In this ceremony they build a box and there are painted stones on the ground and the clan members place them to the far wall. White for yes and black for no. Then the Twelve count the number of stone votes, which are then brought to The Elder who will make the final decision.

This system is only for radical decisions. On the whole the populous trust in the The Elders decision making prowess, as it saves time and energy. Although a fearful people, their simple government is built on trust. All elders are voted in and the populous trust them highly. They believe that those in positions of power are there for a reason. The Elders take great pride in their positions and will always do their best for the clan. Their slowness of physical form may weaken their bodies, but consequently as a tribe they have no ego or vanity. Survival is all they seek and survival for the many, not the one.

They are not selfish and neither is their government. One of the few laws they have is more of a statement and it says ‘The Government is the voice of the people.’

Military

There military is a small select group as most of them are neither fit enough for combat or have a skill set in that area. There are a select amount who are warriors, the younger ones from their original tribe who were turned into kin'toni. Their number has dwindled over the years. They do not actively recruit new military members but often after a bloody conflict when too many have been destroyed they will seek out new warriors from the clan. These are chosen by a voting system.

Clan members elect a small number who they think would be worthy in the role of warriors, ones who are fit enough and also who the clan think would be happy in the role. The ones who have been voted on then have final say if they wish to take it further. If the individuals decide they wish to begin military training they must then undergo a series of exercises and tests. General fitness (press ups, running on the spot, light exercise) to see if their bodies have the stamina for potential conflict. Then they must take a test in battle tactics and strategy to see if they have the intellect for battle.

Being a clan that have very weak bodies, they have had to overcompensate this with intelligence and brain power. What they lack in strength and numbers they gain in cunning and intelligence. They prefer to avoid fighting and prolong survival, however they know it is important to have some protectors of the clan who can guard the perimeters from intruders and if worse comes to the worse, engage in the ancient art of conflict. Warrior scouts are the more fit member s of the clan, who often patrol the outer reaches and keep a watchful eye for intruders and of course zu'aan.

Normally those who join the military are given the task of being a warrior scout before they are allowed to become Infantry Warriors. It is less dangerous and less likely to involve battle as their task is to merely observe and then report to the more heavily armed forces. Infantry warriors are skilled in the art of killing. These will actively engage in fighting with the enemy. Again though, wishing to conserve energy and health they do not go for full on face to face fighting. They are more like sinister assassins and will pick off their enemy at night in the shadows when they cannot be seen.

They have developed the art of killing silently and disappearing silently into the dark just as swiftly as they have come. Their chosen weapons are bow and arrows and throwing spears. In rare occasions they will use long knives and slit attack enemies in the dark from behind. They do not think less of this way of killing as they know quiet surprise will be more effective for them. For them, a fair fight will only result in death.

Religion

The history and religion of the clan is kept alive by THE GREAT ELDER who recites the ancient scriptures daily from memory for many hours often muttering under her breath like a mantra. In the morning time the entire tribe will gather in front of her in a large cavern and she will retell old mythologies of from their past that have special meaning for the days tasks ahead. They believe that there history is very important for them to understand their presence and that a good understanding of the now will help build a better future. They use their minds more then their ailing bodies and so are interested in the pursuit of more psychological things.

They may have been a soulful clan before they became kin'toni, but now they are very much guided by their intellects. It is not uncommon for a clan member to stare into space for hours thinking, saying or doing nothing. Their imaginations have grown very strong and they are almost balanced in their lethargy. The Great Elder is their appointed leader. She is the Queen of the tribe but is also the high priest. They respect her wisdom and knowledge in all she does. They believe in respect for other clans members and hold knowledge and skill very highly.

They alternate talking. The many like to listen as the one speaks. This helps keep the flow of energy moving. They believe that taking turns in using energy whilst the others are stoic and still helps the flow of energy and protects the clan from drainage and negative waves. They believe it was destiny that they became kin'toni and that they were saved from a torturous existence. The stories of their metamorphism are retold every day lest they forget their beginnings. Also the stories of the battles they have fought are retold many times by The Great Elder and the names of the destroyed ones are called out.

Lest they forget the dangers that exist in the world. Zu'aan blood is sacred and not to be over consumed. They believe that all of their clan are equal, just different. Each one plays their part in the whole. It is their duty to support one another. Their common goal is survival. They have carved their own reality in their cavernous lairs beneath the sand and believe in the balance of all things when they are together having their talk time at night. They sleep to dream and survive. They are philosophical in their nature and their entire religion revolves around their history, thoughts and their place in the world.

One speaks, the many listen. It is both a physical and intellectual religion. The ceremony of the entire clan joined as one ear listening to their priestess queen. When they awake they give thanks for all that has been and look forward to what will be. The Elder tells them everything they need to know.
