Historical Overview

Che'vor Wasteland Spikes is a large desolate region located on the southern coast of the continent. Che'vor was once a prosperous land full of powerful zu'aan cities and large expanses of fertile farmland. For many years Che'vor was the one of the most ideal places one could live in the world. That remained true until the kin'toni virus was released upon Taerel. Wars ravaged Che'vor for decades, kin'toni fought each other just as viciously as they fought the local zu'aan. Many of the massive cities located in Che'vor were not built for defence, and more for tourism and trade.

These lightly defended cities were hit worst by the virus, and there was little that could be done to halt the progress of the plague. Entire cities were turned and kin'toni numbers in the region skyrocketed. The result of such a huge amount of kin'toni being turned within a small space of time was utter destruction. Everywhere the hordes of newly turned kin'toni went, they left nothing of substance left intact behind them. The zu'aan cities fought to survive, but many of their leaders were selfish and power hungry. Some zu'aan leaders did not eveh believe that the kin'toni were much of a threat at this time.

The zu'aan cities turned against each other as readily as the surging hordes of untamed kin'toni had. By the time the conflicts had ended, nothing but a charred wasteland remained. Any surviving kin'toni or zu'aan left in the region after the wars and vacated to other safer locations as fast as they could. Che'vor was not only a pile of rubble, but its atmosphere was now toxic to all zu'aan and most kin'toni. This was due to all of the weapons of mass destruction used during these wars. These weapons included the powerful atomics, that left massive craters and polluted the air with toxic radiation for years after detonation.

Che'vor is dotted with these massive craters, many of which have filled with rainwater and become toxic lakes. The region also contains many geysers that explode polluted water and acid from beneath the ground into the air. Almost all plant life has vanished from Che'vor, and the few species that remained were horribly deformed and mutated by the radiation in the atmosphere. While most wildlife was wiped out during the years of war, some persistent creatures managed to survive. These creatures become as deformed as the plants of Che'vor and for the same reason.

There was little drinkable water and barely any food for animals to sustain themselves on in the wasteland. The surviving species had to adapt to their harsh environment and have always remained extremely wary of any zu'aan or kin'toni found in the area. Occasionally, foolish, or stray zu'aan or kin'toni stray past the borders of Che'vor. If they do not exit the region fast, they are usually discovered by a certain creature native to Che'vor that is especially agressive toward any zu'aan or kin'toni. These creatures are known as dhaars, and when they catch their prey, they drain all of their blood and stick their drained corpses upon a selected stone spike for all other travellers to see.

These spikes were naturally formed and are located near the northern border of the region. Already hundreds of dried out husks that were once zu'aan and kin'toni lay here, skewered in the sun.

Geography

Che'vor Wasteland Spikes is a mostly desolate land with little major landmarks. The land is mostly flat and contains many unfilled craters, geysers, and polluted crater lakes. The remnants of once great cities and ports still remain, these are tainted with the sheer amount of death that occurred within. Thousands of rotting bodies were left within these cities and were never buried. Over the years they dissolved into the ground, leaving nothing behind but a sea of bones. The stench of death and decay can be smelt almost anywhere in the region due to this. The largest ruined city in Che'vor is called The Bone Yard.

The Bone Yard was once the most prosperous city in Che'vor, it was most famous for its extravagant gardens. These gardens are no longer discernible from the rest of the city. Most of the city has slowly slid beneath the surface due to the soft, mucky foundations. The streets are about knee deep worth of mud that is laced with the half-rotted remains of dead and charred bodies. The centre of the city has sunken into the ground the most due the massive crater than can be found there. This crater was a result of another zu'aan city states attack.

Slowly all the muck in the ruins flows toward the centre. Here all of the bones of the thousands of deceased meet and form and hideous pile of jumbled body parts. This is how the once great city earnt the name, The Bone Yard. Some of the largest features on the Che'vor landscape are the crater lakes. These lakes were caused by powerful zu'aan weapons used in the wars that took place during the kin'toni outbreak. Some of these craters are several kilometres across and some go hundreds of metres into the earth. Over time rainwater began to fill up some of the larger craters that did not drain fast enough.

These craters eventually became ginormous bodies of water. However, due to the toxic nature of the land surrounding the craters, the water quickly turned sour. The soil in Che'vor is tainted with rot and poisonous chemicals used as weapons during the wars. These chemicals and bacteria spread into the lakes to make them undrinkable and inhospitable to almost all forms of life. In a section of the northern lands of Che'vor there lies a place of horror for any whom considers themselves a zu'aan or kin'toni. A series of rock spikes that were created by the slight movements of tectonic plates below the surface.

These spikes were pushed to the surface overtime, and now form a maze of grey points. This area is simply referred to as 'The Spikes'. These are why Che'vor is commonly referred to as the Wasteland Spikes. Within the northern section if Che'vor lives a certain breed of mutated creature known as dhaars. These creatures attack any stray zu'aan or kin'toni who wander too close and skewer their corpses on top of the spikes. Currently The Spikes is mostly covered in the rotting remains of the Morhpics victims. It serves as a warning to all zu'aan and kin'toni to keep out of Che'vor.

Plants

Plant life in Che'vor Wasteland Spikes is very unique. The plants here are extremely hardy and have become mutated by the toxic environment as well as radiation. Almost none of the water in the region is drinkable so the Che'vor plants have found adaptations to solve this problem. None of the plants in Che'vor are edible and most are undiscovered by zu'aan and kin'toni.

Che'vor hylava

Che'vor Waterleaves are a species of plant that has managed to survive in Che'vor despite its harsh environment. These plants are small and grow on rocky surfaces rather than in soil. They are grey with green leaves to absorb sunlight. Che'vor Waterleaves have wide leaves shaped like bowls so that they can catch rainwater. The rainwater is untainted by the toxicity of the region and these plants can live off of it. These plants are commonly found in The Spikes area of Che'vor as there is plenty of stone surfaces for them to grow from. They can also be found on top of the remnants of stone buildings inside some of the ruins.

Hylava plants only grow enough roots to firmly attack themselves to their chosen surface, after that they do not spread further. They prefer to expend energy on growing upwards and sprouting more leaves to catch more water. While the majority of Che'vor hylava plants are small, there are some in The Spikes area that now tower above the rocky spikes.

Ultesae Algae

Ultesae is a species of algae that has managed to survive in Che'vor despite its harsh environment. Ultesae is an adapted variant of traditional algae that has been brought into existence by the toxicity of the lakes in which it inhabits. Algae is brought about by still water, and there is plenty of still water lakes in Che'vor. While other algae species died off, Ultesae survived due to its newfound hardiness. Ultesae algae is able to survive inside the crater lakes that are spread across Che'vor. They usually congregate at the surface of the lakes so they can get the maximum amount of sunlight possible. The algae is green in colour and gives off a foul odour.

Due to the toxic water that the algae breathe and lives in any zu'aan or kin'toni who touches it will be burned.

Che'vor Mushrooms

Che'vor Mushrooms are species of swamp mushrooms that grow only in Che'vor Wasteland Spikes. They are a variant of the mushrooms that used to grow in the region that are now extinct. These mushrooms are brown and covered in small holes that release spores into the air almost constantly. If inhaled these spores can kill within hours of entering the lungs of any stray creature. Che'vor mushrooms are very light and are able to float around on top of the vast flowing streams of much within many of the ruins. They generally grow in small clumps of 3-5 individual mushrooms. They do not need light to survive and are able to feed on the rot and decay that is found in its habitat. They are another reason why it is extremely dangerous to venture near or into any of the ruins that lie throughout Che'vor.

Animals

Wildlife in Che'vor Wasteland Spikes is very limited and mostly primitive. Only the hardiest species are able to withstand the harsh environment around them. The air unbreathable in many places, and there is little to no plants to eat. This means that the creatures of Che'vor had to find other ways to sustain themselves.

Aghari

Aghari are a species of worm that is able to survive in Che'vor Wasteland Spikes. They are generally found in the ruins that are scattered across the region. Aghari can grow up to a metre in length and rarely see the light of day. They consume the nutrients found in the soil, mostly generated by the carbon remnants of creatures and plants that died in the past. They have no eyes or mouths and tunnel through the ground using their sense of touch. They are able to sense nearby food and absorb the nutrients through their thin outer layer of skin. Aghari have brown skin and the head is not discernible from their tail, although the move headfirst. Often aghari find themselves being washed out to sea by the natural drains that run off the coastline.

The water does not kill the aghari, but they usually die of starvation in a matter of days. Apart from this Aghari are not killed and can live for decades.

Matari

Matari are a species of insect that have managed to survive in Che'vor Wasteland Spikes. They have been able to survive because they adapted to be able to live off of spores released by Che'vor mushrooms. Che'vor Mushrooms release toxic spores into the air almost constantly, and the matari are able to catch and eat them. Matari are able to fly but they mostly use their wings as nets to catch the spores floating in the air. Matari will find a solid surface inside a ruined city and perch with their wings spread wide. Their wings are laced with many small pores that stick to the spores and are able to slowly eat them.

Matari and golden in colour with 6 black legs. To defend themselves they have a long sting at the rear of their abdomen. This sting contains the poison of the mushroom spores they eat and can easily kill a zu'aan. Matari however, do not usually attack other creatures.

dhaar

Dhaars are a species of animal that were mutated by the radiation in Che'vor Wasteland Spikes. They stand on 4 long, spindly legs and are the same colour as rust. Their skin is riddled with sores and often oozes green liquid. When standing dhaars can reach heights of up to 3 metres. Their legs are each equipped with a 3 fingered claw. Each claw is curved to help them grip onto surfaces around them. Their mouths are misshapen and have no consistent shape. These ugly mouths are lined with lengthy white teeth several rows deep. At the edge of their throat is a thick, black tongue that has several small teeth of its own attached to the tip.

Dhaars hunt zu'aan and kin'toni and use their tongues to drain their blood. They are able to smell them from many kilometres away and often stalk their prey for days before making the kill. These creatures are not afraid to cross borders into other regions in order to make their kills. One of their traits that makes them so terrifying is that they often mount prior kills in the path of the prey they are stalking to startle them. The prey then becomes fearful or panics completely. Once the dhaar is done toying with the prey they take their drained corpse to The Spikes region in Che'vor and pin their body atop one of the huge stone spikes to serve as a warning for all zu'aan and kin'toni to stay away.
