History

The city of Chakin had always been a quiet and desolate place. Since they lived in Vazdipo Frozen Lakes, there was never much that they could do. The climate was always so cold that they were forced to stay inside of their homes, stuck there as the cold was enough to cripple most zu'aan. When there were warm days they would spend much of their time outside so they could enjoy the warmth, since it never lasted long. After a while, the members of the city started to search for things that they could do to pass their time, and have fun at the same time.

It took them a long time as they weren’t able to find anything that peaked their interest for long enough to participate in it. This was changed when a worker went out by the lake and ended up falling in. Everyone had been so panicked that it was nearly missed that the person who fell in didn’t mind the cold, in fact, he wanted to do it again. He announced that the water wasn’t that cold, and that he had gotten a decent amount of energy from falling into the water. Initially, the zu'aan was looked at as though he was insane. There were other zu'aan that were standing by, waiting to be told to take him to the jail and keep him there because he was clearly insane.

Before this could happen, there were other zu'aan that stepped forward, interested in taking a dip in the cold water to see if they would get adrenaline and energy from it. Born from the cold water swimming was the adrenaline games. Hundreds of zu'aan from Chakin city would participate to see who was the strongest, all while gaining as much adrenaline as they could. There were multiple games they would participate in to see who was the strongest, as there could only be one. At the end of the games, whoever came out victorious was given 2 weeks of full immunity to enjoy that they had won, as well as to train before the next games, where they would be able to renew their title.

It had become such a big thing that the city was essentially shut down for the games, and other zu'aan would come and visit to watch them. There were some that would try and participate as well, but since they weren’t from the colder climate, they wouldn’t do as well, and thus the title would be kept within Chakin city. As time passed, there were more and more games, and Chakin city became popular for the way they had their games, making them a popular city to visit. There were no plans to change this as along with adrenaline, they were enjoying the popularity they were getting from other zu'aan.

They liked that they were able to make money off their athlete, as well as gaining popularity from having the games themselves.

Psychology

With the way the games were set up, the zu'aan from Chakin city believed that because they were participating in the adrenaline games, that they were stronger than the average zu'aan. While this wasn’t wrong, the Chakin city zu'aan believed they were so much stronger that they were essentially untouchable. They believed that if they wanted to go up against other cities, that they would win easily. Although, while they believed this, fighting wasn’t something that they wanted to do often. They were much more focussed on their games and gaining fame from them.

Since their games were the main thing they did, it was easily the main focus of the city. With the games being held every 2 weeks and lasting a week to complete, they took a lot of time and energy to prepare for. There were zu'aan who’ only job was to prepare the games so they were ready for when the athletes came to compete. The day before the games was always busy. The streets were flooded with zu'aan who were waiting to see the athletes compete to see who was the strongest. The preparations caused a lot of stress for the zu'aan whose jobs were to set up the games and make sure they were ready when the time was right.

They would work around the clock, stressing and tiring themselves out to make it all perfect. Some would say that the rush was the reason why they would do it, as the adrenaline they would get from preparing the games would give them a rush. As the athletes would compete and perform, they would feel the rush of adrenaline rush over them. That was the reason why they would subject themselves to the tortures that awaited with the games. Since they would have to outlast their competitors in the icy lake, or see who could hold their breath the longest in a mud pit, the pressure was definitely on them to be the best, and that was how they liked it.

They liked they way they would feel as they would be competing, hearing the cheers from the crowd as they went through each of the challenges. Since there were so many games to get through, there was a lot of pressure to make sure the athletes were able to get through each of the games without issue. This would mean that while one of the games was going on, the zu'aan in charge of setting everything up would have to be at the other event making sure that everything was set up and ready to go as soon as the athletes got there. The stress this created, to make sure everything was perfect, was enough to make a lesser zu'aan want to cry, but the Chakin zu'aan would always rise to the challenge, ready to face it head on and overcome it.

The zu'aan from Chakin city were very stubborn and strong willed, but that was how they liked to be, especially when it came to their coveted games.

Culture

As it has been previously stated, the Chakin zu'aan live their lives in pursuit of adrenaline. They look for the high as much as they can, and will get it from whichever sources they can. Because of this, they don’t have much time to sit down and do other things. They don’t tend to celebrate holidays, or even their own birthdays. They will however, sit down an celebrate the athletes that are competing, or have been winning the challenges. Once a winner has been declared at the end of the games, there are extensive meals and celebrations that take place over the first 2 days after they’ve won.

Taverns, restaurants, and hotels open up constantly to accommodate them to ensure everyone is taken care of while they celebrate. It is a widely known tradition that if an athlete wins each competition for at least a year, they are sent off with multiple women from the Chakin city to reproduce with them. Since the winners that make it so far are usually male, there are usually quite a few women that are waiting to reproduce with them to ensure the mans strong genes carry on to their children. This way, it is ensured that the next generation is hopefully going to be even stronger than the generation before them.

Once the celebrations are over, the next 12 days is spent preparing the challenges yet again, as well as making sure the athletes are training. The winner is allowed to have top pick for training when it comes to equipment and times, as their goal is to continue to win until they’ve won every challenge for a year, thus allowing them the right to reproduce. Each of the athletes is not allowed to reproduce during their training or competing, as it is believed that they should have their mind on the competition and the competition alone.

Although there aren’t any repercussions legally for reproducing, it is not smart as your children will not be regarded as the strongest, and will be seen as regular children, regardless of who their parents are. Since the title of strongest is so coveted, athletes do everything they can to make sure they're as strong as they can be. For some, this means training every possible hour they can until the competition, and for others, this means cheating and hoping you don’t get caught. The stress of winning the title can be so high that there are zu'aan that will find herbs to make their skin numb, or others that will give them a temporary burst of energy so they can compete better.

They do this because they don’t believe they're going to be strong enough to win, even with other, proper, training. If they're found out, they're banned from competing any longer, since the purpose of competing is to see who is strongest, not to see who can cheat the best.

Government

Since the zu'aan from Chakin city were so enveloped in competing to see who the strongest was, there were laws surrounding their athletes, as well as the games they competed in. Some of these included not allowing the athletes to consume alcohol before or during training/competing, as it would inhibit their ability to perform, not allowing them into the areas of competition before starting time, so they couldn’t scope out the area before anyone else. And finally, regular zu'aan were not allowed to touch the athletes while they were competing or training as it could break their focus and ruin their chances of winning.

Anyone who was found to break these laws would be taken to the jail in Chakin city. If they were from another city, that cities law enforcement would be summoned to come and take the offender back. As they were leaving they would be told that they were no longer welcome back in Chakin city. While this was something that was seen as rude and unnecessary, the members of the government believed that there would be no second chances after the first one. They didn’t believe there should be any chances taken when it came to their athletes, since those were their beloved members of society.

Because of how focussed they were on the games, when they were going on, the members of the government would station members of the army at the games to watch over everything. The army would be in charge of watching out for any cheating that was taking place, as well as any security threats. They would be equipped with simple leather armor that allowed them to move easily to catch anyone who thought they might want to flee. Since there were so many other things that could happen, the government officials of Chakin city would sit in on the games to make sure they went off without a hitch.

While they would also enjoy watching the games, they would make sure any and all technical aspects were taken care of. Sometimes there were officials that would travel to other games before they started so they could make sure they were being set up properly, and as well, they would be able to see how the zu'aan in charge of setting things up handled their tasks. There were many times that the government officials would come to the games with the intention of just watching them, but they would end up participating in some way. The goal of the games was to make it all fun for everyone.

This would mean that the officials would time events or judge them to make it more fun for everyone. As well, they would be able to better gauge how long the events would usually go so they would be able to plan them better in the future. Since the officials likes being involved in the games, they found that they could at least participate as well as see their coveted games in actions all at the same time.

Military

There were several jobs that the military from Chakin city had to carry out, the most important of them being protecting the city. Shortly thereafter, however, they were to protect the athletes before, during, and after their competitions. There were always zu'aan army members that would go out and go their tasks, travelling and going into battle with kin’toni to keep their cities safe, but there were others that were tasked to stay back and make sure the adrenaline games went off without a hitch. These members were to stand guard over the competitions and make sure there weren’t any zu'aan that were trying to sneak into the games or trying to touch the competitors.

While usually this was an easy job, there were times when they would have to escort zu'aan out of the games altogether because they were consistently not listening and getting into trouble. When they were working the games, the army was equipped with simple leather armor, as well as a shield and a dagger. While they didn’t usually need the dagger, it was good for them to have it on them as there was always the possibility of needing it. When they were out fighting against the kin’toni, or even other zu'aan, they were equipped with heavier armor, as well as a bigger shield, and better weapons.

This allows them to be better equipped to fight for longer periods of time and ensures that they’ll be able to keep up with whomever they're fighting against. Aside from fighting, the members of the army are trained with as much first aid as they could ever need. This means that when they're training to become part of the army, they're expected to learn not just how to hurt someone, but to help those that have been hurt previously. While they're in training, they're expected to know how to patch wounds to ensure there wont be ant infection, as well as bracing broken bones so they're no longer an issue to deal with.

Their knowledge, while vast, isn’t supposed to be used as the only form of first aid. While they're able to patch some injuries, the injured zu'aan will still have to be taken to the doctor back at the city to get properly fixed up. Finally, while the athletes are the beloved members of the public, the army still ranks higher than them because they get their adrenaline from risking their lives to take care of the city, as well as the athletes themselves. They like that at any point they could be killed, and for them this brings more adrenaline than jumping into a cold lake to holding their breath for as long as possible.

When the army comes back from their tours, making sure that everyone is safe, they are given a celebration to thank them for everything they do. This means that they get to eat meals with the city, answering their questions and talking about what it was that did while they were out. They come back anywhere between 2 weeks and 6 months from battles, and there are always stories for them to tell.

Religion

Since they are so enveloped in chasing adrenaline, the zu'aan from Chakin city haven’t been able to make a religion work for them. They spend more of their time looking for other things they can do that will give them more adrenaline, and so they don’t allow religion to be a thought in their minds. There had been times when some of the zu'aan had tried to make their pursuit of adrenaline into a religion, but there was no way for them to get it to stick. They tried as hard as they could, going to competitions and trying to convince other zu'aan that there was a higher power that gave them the strength to compete.

While there were some that would listen eagerly to the zu'aan that were preaching this, many would find that they weren’t able to make time to add this religion into their lives. They were curious about how it would work, and how they would be able to incorporate this religion into their lives. It was something that was interesting to them, how there was a god that had given them the ability to survive more, thus enabling them to pursue adrenaline. The more it was thought about, the more zu'aan realized that they wouldn’t be able to make it work.

While they were so interested in making it a religion, they realized that there wasn’t enough time in a day to make it work. As soon as many of the zu'aan were done with their tasks, they would go and find their own ways to get adrenaline. This was how they would spend their day, and as soon as they were done, they would go back to their homes and go to bed. With them doing all these things, they found that the pursuit of religion wasn’t going to give them the adrenaline that they wanted, as they would be able to just go out and get it individually, instead of as a group under the same belief.

Because of this, the religion was lost, and the zu'aan from Chakin city went about their days as they always would, finishing up their chores and tasks for the day and then going to hunt for new ways to get their adrenaline for the day. As time had gone on, there were others that had tried to make adrenaline into a religion, but they were quickly told no, that it wouldn’t work, and so they would give up as well. Religion was something that was heavily wanted, but not something that they would pursue as they didn’t want to take time away from the things that they deemed more important to them.
