Burupol Tribal Zu’aan
History
The Nyslusk Mountains Ridge were always known to be very tranquil and calm, and that was at first due to its lack of inhabitants – all that could be found in the region was the towering, precipitous mountains and the wildlife that lived there such as the that grazed relaxedly and also the birds that occasionally made their nests in the tall, imposing trees that were decorations upon the hills and mountains. Then a group of zu’aan had journeyed to the region, seeing it as a new place to set up their home after facing years and years of cruel, harsh persecution from foreign nations. Working together, these first inhabitants began their settlement by living in campsites for the first couple of centuries, living off the aid of other regions and also fending for themselves.
Soon after, an individual called Jokin Nachum was determined to make a change and started to take loans from neighbouring nations, claiming that if the people of the Nyslusk Mountains Ridge were provided with help and support, the supporters would be well-respected and offered their reward in due course – likely resources or workers from the region as there were a few mines and also plenty of ores. And the first leader of the region’s people kept his promise, for soon the neighbouring nations were able to gain access to the mines and get the valuable metals they needed.
However, an issue ultimately arose, and that was the fact that many of the nations started to become more greedy, trying to send their armed forces into the region in order to claim the mines and restrict the access from its owners and also the other users of it; this proved to be a very big issue for the region, since most of the inhabitants were pacifists and decided not to get involved in a conflict, meaning that it was not difficult for those that chose to use force to infiltrate the land and get their very own personal share that they would have complete control over. Whilst the inhabitants of the Nyslusk Mountains Ridge did not seem the take action, a response was ultimately provoked by other nations who had been using the mines and now saw a threat of losing their access to it, which meant that these nations would step up and combat the forces of the offending nations with their own.
Soon, many influential figures in the Nyslusk Mountains Ridge began to try to break apart these wars and instead bring peace as they realised that these conflicts had a negative impact on the prosperity of the region, which resulted in the region becoming known as being neutral and peacemakers. Yet, there were still nations who tried to invade Nyslusk Mountains Ridge and the region found themselves facing a returning threat, but the inhabitants still wanted to continue their old way of life and hence the majority did not take up arms to fight but instead tried to be more defensive by constructing walls and barricades. Furthermore, the landlocked nature of the land meant that the residents depended on the other nations to keep the invading nations’ forces out, but they failed in doing and therefore the invading troops swarmed the Nyslusk Mountains Ridge.
Once the invaders came to power, however, there was not much of a significant change to the way of thinking, as there was the realisation that the Nyslusk Mountains Ridge was not a place the nations desired to have to handle and manage, and therefore control was returned to the Burupol people who continued to be peacemakers.
Psychology
The people of the Nyslusk Mountains Ridge have always had to live with the trauma of their history before they inhabited the region – they originated from a group that had been heavily persecuted throughout time within Taerel and forced to become travellers, migrating from region to region in hope of finding at minimum a place to stay. Being forced to become refugees, these people would be very troubled and tormented after all their experiences of warfare, yet still managed to become increasingly resilient and determined as they put up with their horrific state and the appalling actions of their enemies and even some of those who reluctantly gave temporary accommodation to them, before forcing them out of the nation and back on their way in search of a home.
This continued on for many years, but the hopefulness and fortitude of the Burupol people were never extinguished, for there came the occasion when they reached the Nyslusk Mountains Ridge, and instantly saw a new start – the new nation of the Burupol people. During this time, the Burupol people were then motivated with a new purpose and filled with a sense of hope that would seem unlikely for such a group of people, who had been facing persecution and oppression for decades, leaving the majority in a state of absolute trauma, suffering and ordeal. As time progressed, there was soon growth in the region and it started to progress, reaching levels of advancement that came close to the progression of the neighbouring nations in record time. Yet, the Burupol people became very reluctant to discuss with their neighbours or form any relations and showed a very reserved nature as they enjoyed their own company.
One reason for this could have been the fact that the Burupol people could finally come together and had themselves for company – improving their overall happiness, joy, and contentment – although another factor could be that many members of the population had developed a feeling – an emotion of distrust for anyone outside of their people. The reason for this could be that they ultimately did not want to face persecution again and feared a possible genocide that could occur if the population was wiped out of the Nyslusk Mountains Ridge, and hence the Burupol people tended to be very reclusive and less social people, particularly around foreigners. In the eyes of the Burupol people, they felt that they should be pacifists, with their justification for this being the fact that they would not want to see the horrors they had seen be experienced again by another innocent, naïve group of people.
Furthermore, the inhabitants became known as peacemakers, for they felt that what they were doing was a great deed and action in the eyes of their deity Ryomen, God of War and Peace, and also saw fighting as being a deadly, destructive force that would bring no good to the world. Additionally, the Burupol people started to become more social, as some of them soon found a need to protect themselves in the event that they were attacked again, so to stay in line with their pacifist ideologies they would be more connected with foreign nations, trying to form better relations with their neighbours in hopes of forming alliances and making sure that the military of these neighbouring nations could protect them.
Culture
In the Nyslusk Mountains Ridge, the culture of the Burupol people was able to be revived, for these people once again had their own nation and place to stay with their own kind. However, a few changes were made in order to adapt to the region, with one example being an increase in the number of shepherds and a huge spike in cattle farming, for there were plenty of animals – that could be found. Being a shepherd was also in line with the beliefs of the Burupol people, for they felt that having to work with animals that you could not communicate with through language was excellent for character building and discipline, building up qualities of patience, compassion and understanding. Furthermore, the meat that they received after slaughtering these animals would contribute to their dishes, which in most cases consisted of meat roasted or barbecued and had alongside vegetables that would be boiled.
Hot meals were very common due to the nature of the region having a very cold temperature, meaning that delicious soups and tasty broths would be made, packed with nutrition and a source of warmth; for many, the idea of having a bowl of hot soup or broth when they returned home was enough motivation to work hard. It can also be noted how some of the residents were vegetarian or even vegan, for they felt that was in line with the ideas of pacifism. As for drinks, the water of the region often came from the mountains and flowed down waterfalls and into rivers – creating stunning, beautiful vistas – and would be packed full of necessary minerals that provided good health and nutrition for the Burupol people; many of the neighbouring nations would even buy water from the region due to the health benefits.
The region was also heavily invested in psychology and philosophy due to the nature of their history and came up with many concepts in relation to war and peace to increase their depth of knowledge on their history. As a result of this, the inhabitants of the Nyslusk Mountains Ridge enriched the region with arts and literature, telling war stories as well as creating folklore and tales, and also creating tapestries and paintings that depicted warfare and parts of it, such as the destruction it caused and the emotions it could evoke in people. Many successful and prodigious philosophers came out of the region, sharing their ideas and holding many discussions, as well as writing their own beliefs and even starting their own schools of thought. Philosophers were able to gain lots of money as well as lots of freedom of speech, for some of them even went as far as to argue against the leadership in the Nyslusk Mountains Ridge and say how they should not be pacifists.
Meanwhile, these philosophers would often find themselves in deep controversy, and those who spoke in line with the leaders tended to be more favourable amongst the Burupol people, and hence the ideologies of pacifism have always survived in the Nyslusk Mountains Ridge.
Government
During the time of the persecution of the Burupol people many centuries ago, all the leaders they had tried to elect to rule them and at least allow them to negotiate with other nations were killed, and often through many methods of assassination by enemies or during ambush attacks that were intended to take the leaders hostage and ransom them to the Burupol people for hefty sums – prices that were absolutely ridiculous and impossible for the Burupol people to pay off. However, there was soon hope, for Jokin Nachum found the Nyslusk Mountains Ridge, and then started to build up a new home, a new sanctuary for the Burupol people to live in. After many years of toiling and hard work, the Nyslusk Mountains Ridge was soon very built up and started reaching levels of advancement close to its neighbouring nations, who had not been victims of persecution for many decades; yet the most important thing was that the Burupol people had a fresh start, which was Jokin Nachum’s opportunity to protect his subjects from any event that may take place similar to their past experiences.
To do so, he found himself going against the usual self-centred, reclusive nature of his people and decided to take loans from foreign nations, offering them rewards if they chose to be so generous and helping. Ultimately, these negotiations were beneficial for both parties and arguably was necessary if the new nation of the Burupol people wanted to survive.Whilst a large portion of the Burupol people were reluctant to do this, the nation began to live off its own resources, but also started to gain dependence on their neighbouring nations. For instance, the leaders of the Burupol people had many discussions with other nations’ leaders, reaching deals and finding out different ways that both the Burupol people and the foreigners could benefit; even though this may seem like a good thing, a sense of distrust that had been growing in the Burupol people due to their history caused a feeling of reluctance.
It became clear when some nations turned voracious that the Burupol people may have been correct in having this cynicism, although on the other hand, the leaders of the Burupol people showed the benefits of forming connections and alliances with neighbouring nations, for these neighbouring nations came to aid the Burupol people in keeping out the armed forces of any greedy nations trying to infiltrate the Nyslusk Mountains Ridge and claim the many mineshafts and quarries for themselves; these defensive nations likely did this in the best interests of the Burupol people and their own nation who may have depended heavily on the resources found in the Nyslusk Mountains Ridge to thrive. This continued on for many decades, but the attempted invasions of the Nyslusk Mountains Ridge by many foreign nations sometimes reached points where even the neighbouring protective nations of the Burupol people were unable to protect them.
Due to the pacifistic nature of the Burupol people, the only action taken was making walls and barricades, and even though many of the Burupol people urged leaders to form an army or at least take more action, these leaders were arrogant and chose not to go against the established principles.
Military
For the many decades before their inhabitancy of the Nyslusk Mountains Ridge, the Burupol people found themselves putting up with persecution and trying to fight against it, but due to the powerful, formidable nature of their oppressors and their calm, not aggressive disposition, they struggled to see any victory and found their society in a state of chaos and discord, spread out across the world of Taerel. Due to this, they were unable to form a strong military force until they arrived in the Nyslusk Mountains Ridge, where they set up their new home – a place where they could finally set up the infrastructure for the Burupol people. As a result of their experiences in the past, they chose to not form an army despite being united once again, for they feared that an active military could provoke a war and ultimately lead to more chaos and destruction; some however still held resentment and wanted to continue fighting as a form of retribution, but this was a very small and almost insignificant minority.
Instead, after forming deals with other regions, the Burupol people were soon able to find a way to defend themselves as they offered their neighbours resources, making them willing to protect the Nyslusk Mountains Ridge in their best interests of not losing the vital and valuable access to the sources of supplies found in the region, such as the useful metals. Hence, these nations would make sure to have their troops prepared, especially due to an event that took place which started a chain reaction of similar events that could severely affect the Nyslusk Mountains Ridge; some of the nations had become greedy and were trying to claim parts of the Nyslusk Mountains Ridge and its mineshafts and quarries for themselves, despite the formal declaration that it was the rightful land of the Burupol people.
Determined to assist the Burupol people, the troops of the foreign nations would battle with the avaricious nations and their forces, trying their best to keep the conflict away from the civilians of the Nyslusk Mountains Ridge and especially the Burupol people. Meanwhile, a small portion of the inhabitants soon had the idea of trying to form armed forces that could defend the region and respond to these pushes by greedy nations, but this idea was never allowed to thrive. Once the invasion by foreign nations became too extreme, the neighbouring nations did not have enough manpower to support the inhabitants of the Nyslusk Mountains Ridge against such a powerful force. Despite this, they continued to follow pacifism and try to construct walls and barricades as well as try to seal entrances and exits into the Nyslusk Mountains Ridge in hopes of shielding themselves.
On the other hand, a large portion of the community wanted to lose the pacifistic nature and instead form a military force, that would have its very own formal system with ranks and armouries as well as barracks, but the leadership continued to be reluctant and restricted the concept completely. Despite the possibility of being able to use the many metals that could be found to make armour and weaponry, the resources were not used for this purpose but rather in some cases to construct walls and barricades, and therefore the opposing troops invaded the Nyslusk Mountains Ridge only to realise it would be too difficult to maintain, meaning the Burupol Zu’ann Tribe continued to inhabit the region and act as peacemakers.
Religion
The Nyslusk Mountains Ridge was a region that would on most occasions during its history be very tranquil and serene as well as soothing, with one factor for this likely being the fact that religion was common in the area. A lot of the inhabitants were devout believers that made sure to perform all their duties, with many prayers and services taking place every day where the communities could congregate to give their offerings and call upon their deities; this would usually have been done in the very early days of the region’s inhabitancy around a campfire or at a specified shrine in the campsite. As the region expanded, many people still chose to keep shrines in their houses decorated with idols and offerings (such as gold, food and jewellery as well as other valuables) and would do their prayers with family there.
But it became more popular to visit the newly built temples made of stone bricks and designed with great pillars and also fascinating designs, all done by the prodigious, talented craftsmen of the region who were exceptionally skilled in the trades of stonework and chiselling. Festivals were also very common, with the region holding at least one celebration every month, which would be one of the few occasions they invited the inhabitants of neighbouring nations for the sake of being inclusive and not due to business-related matters or war affairs. During these occasions, there would be plenty of singing and dancing as well as dining and consuming of food, and overall, the atmosphere was fairly lively and enjoyable; some people however felt that this was a better opportunity for worship rather than partying, so the more pious would tend to read holy scriptures or lead prayers as well as group meditations.
One of the gods that were worshipped by the people of the Nyslusk Mountains Ridge was called Ryomen, God of War and Peace. He was believed to have to states with one of them being where He would be calm and relaxed and offer blessings to the believers as a reward for their piety as well as plead to deities of a higher rank than him to shower the world with love and beauty and recompenses. When in this state, His large wings were said to be of a gleaming, beautiful, prosperous creamy white and it was also suggested by some that He would shroud himself in paperwhite clothing. However, the world was likely to face grave danger and severe peril when He was angered, for these wings turned a burnt black and became withered like dying leaves, and he was said to wear dark black robes instead.
It was also said that His eyes that would be a gleaming white would turn a fiery red, burning with immense fury and rage. Due to the pacifistic nature of the inhabitants, they believed that Ryomen, God of War and Peace would cause wars and such horrific events to take place as a punishment and also as a way to display his anger – many would convert to the faith of the people of the Nyslusk Mountains Ridge when told by priests that if they did not it would be too late and they would have to face an eternity experiencing such horrors, and believers would also drop in repentance, hoping that their sins and any misconduct they had done would be forgiven.
