History

The Av Vara are a new clan of kin'toni that has been very carefully cultivated and controlled by the kin'toni of the Ashat’s pioneer clans’ council. They are by far the most numerous of all the clans that exist in the lands of the Ashat nation, and are considered to be the core of the Ashatan armies. The Av Vara is the soldier clan of the Ashat nation, which was founded during the time of the shattering, when so much of the kin'toni world was facing intense and never ending battle.

At the time, the kin'toni armies of the Ashat nation were very much similar to that of the other kin'toni nations. However, as the fighting led for longer and longer, caused more divisions, and strained the relationships of kin'toni clans. The Pioneer clans’ council determined that the Nation would not be able to survive the difficult period of the Shattering without being split into multiple smaller nations due to the fractious movements that it was witnessing.

At that time, the council determined that the only way to ensure that the nation overcomes this period of division and warfare, was by providing the people of the nation a vision of their future, and a reason to fight together. The Council at the time prepared the kin'toni population for a nation in which they would never have to fight, or experience the perils associated with it. They announced the formation of the Av Vara, which were going to be the clan that would be responsible for all the war of the nation.

They would allow the kin'toni to lead lives that were not torn asunder by the uncertainties of war and fighting. The declaration was a transformative action by the council, for the Ashat nation region had been one of the most active militarily speaking, and the resident kin'toni of the nation had been fighting for decades without any rest. By taking away the burden of the general populace and assigning to it a select group, the council clans had fastened the kin'toni population to themselves and given them a vision of their future that the kin'toni of the time seemed to crave.

The Shattering is a widely discussed topic and many scholars go into the reasons why it came about and how the wars eventually ended, they go into the minute details of the actions nations took in order to overcome the chaos that earth itself was spewing out at the time. However, none of them discuss the details of how the shattering truly affected the psychology of the common kin'toni citizen, because it is such a terrifying image that few, if any, have the courage to face the hard and difficult reality of the past.

The number of kin'toni that embraced the sun and chose to die instead of continue the fight, is a figure that is horrifying. The mindset of the kin'toni has of course improved since the conduction of war was handed to the soldier kin'toni of the Ashat nation called the Av Vara.

Psychology

The Av Vara are a hardy kin'toni lot, they were made from the finest kin'toni warriors that the Ashat nation had at the time, although the selection process for the kin'toni that would be put into the Av Vara clan is not something that is a common topic of study. However, the characteristics that were sought in the kin'toni that would form the clan are an excellent indicator of the kind of psychology the kin'toni of the clan would later come to imbibe in themselves.

It must be understood from the outset, that the kin'toni of the Av Vara are soldiers through and through, they are professionals that have spent the last centuries preparing for the killing of other kin'toni and zu'aan. Their prowess is undoubted, but it is not one fuelled by the passion of a warrior, and that is where the most important difference comes into play regarding the way they conduct war. The Av Vara are concerned with the winning of the battle, they have no interest in proving the supremacy of their passion or the reason for the battle.

Which is a clearly visible characteristic that the kin'toni warrior clans are known to illustrate. The Av Vara were converted to kin'toni in essentially waves, the characteristics of the zu'aan that were to be converted to the clan were not deemed worthy of inquiry. The prevailing view at the time had been that the nature of the zu'aan was irrelevant in the making of the kin'toni and the most important factor was the nature of the kin'toni that would share the blood for the transformation.

This view is obviously outdated now, and is widely understood that the zu'aan nature continues to shine through even after the time of the transformation and in some studies it has been shown that certain traits are able to shine through brighter in the kin'toni than they did in the zu'aan. Nonetheless, the unregulated use of zu'aan at the time of the creation of the Av Vara was naturally just because of the immediacy of the action that required the conversion of a massive amount of kin'toni so as to enable the general populace to revert to a civil life devoid of daily violence.

The kin'toni that were chosen to be the core or rather the seed of the Av Vara were carefully selected by the founder of the Llyth Kin'toni Clan, who was at the time the High marshal of the Ashatan forces. He has gone on record to state the kind of soldiers he searched out in order to form the core of the soldier clan, and the deciding factor had been the love for the fight. The High marshal wanted to ensure that the kin'toni that would form the clan would have an appetite for the fight.

That is not to say that the kin'toni with the most blood lust were chosen, because the appetite for the fight had to be matched by other traits as well, those being loyalty, discipline, intelligence and ability to cope with pressure.

Biology

Over the years, the biology of the Av Vara has taken shape under the careful guidance of the Junta of the pioneer clans’ council, who have forged and honed the Av Vara like a fine weapon. In the initial years, the kin'toni did not posses a very specific biological defining features, as they were formed of kin'toni stock that was not completely related and had been selected by the Llyth clan founder on their traits of the mind rather than that of the body, predominantly at least.

This difference in their physical appearance has continued to diminish over the years, and has reached a point now that the kin'toni appear almost to be descended from the same bloodline. The kin'toni of the Av Vara are tall and muscular warriors that are able to lift heavy burdens, their endurance can rival the best runners in all the world, the Galaka. Most of all however, it is their ability to continue to remain blood thirsty even when the fight has dragged on and on.

The bloodlust that the Llyth founder had desired to have in the kin'toni, is something that has been a true gift for the soldiers and according to the accounts of many it has been the reason why they have snatched the victory from the very jaws of death in certain engagements. It was never thought when initially creating the Av Vara that the soldier clan would be able to succeed in their role due to the love for the fight, as the very reason for their creation was that the kin'toni of the nation had tired of war and couldn’t contemplate its extension beyond a certain point.

Although the blood lust that the kin'toni of the Av Vara bear can never be compared with that of the Oola, who are a famed warrior clan that are known to sport a love for battle that many would refer to as being of a crazy proportion. If the blood lust or rather battle lust of the Oola is a roaring fire that burns hot and bright, the battle lust of the Av Vara is an ever burning ember. The Oola’s passion will eventually burn out, when their bodies have exerted their reserves and they have fought for maybe a whole year, their blood lust will begin to wane.

The Av Vara on the other hand, grow more fiercer and hungry for the violence as the battle and the war rages on, their attacks are propelled by the slow burn of their love for fighting, and as that fighting continues the kin'toni of the Av Vara grow only more involved in the fighting until their love beings to become a fire that rivals even the Oola. Those that have fought the Av Vara are well aware that in order to ensure a victory against the army of Ashat, engagements need to be short bursts and certainly not over long durations as it allows the Av Vaara to warm up and grow more enthusiastic.

They have dark orange irises with white sclera and vertical slit pupils

Culture

The Av Vara are not a very complex clan, in their social hierarchy everything has to do with rank, and battle experience. They care little for political connections and the charisma that a kin'toni possess and only consider the hard facts of service when considering promotions. In the earlier times, there was a proposal to install a mandatory service period for each rank in order to ensure that the kin'toni that come into the clan are not able to charm their way through the ranks or do so with the aide of political connections.

The proposal was also meant to ensure that the kin'toni gained an understanding of the role of each rank in the course of a battle, and although most of the council agreed with the proposal as well as the logic of it, the Av Vara core commanders severely opposed the proposal. The High Marshal of the forces at the time also agreed with the Av Vara and opposed the introduction of mandatory service obligations for each rank. The Av Vara explained that the quality of a solider was not something that could always be built in the same manner.

For they believed that the leadership of kin'toni in battle was a skill that could differ with talent as well. There were kin'toni that could command legions well before seasoned commanders gained the necessary confidence to do so, and so by instilling an arbitrary condition like duration of service at a particular rank could end up being a measure that could be exploited by lazy commanders to keep talented soldiers at levels below them just because they were jealous of their ability.

The High marshal who probably continues to be one of the most talented soldiers in the world agreed, and stated that the Av Vara should not be coddled and controlled like children but rather treated with the respect of the process that had gone into forging them as a weapon for the nation to wield. That is the essential core of the kin'toni of the Av Vara, the clan may have been constructed by the hands of kin'toni, but the management of their affairs is something that is entrusted to their number.

Therefore, despite being the primary weapon of the Ashat nation, the affairs of the clan are never discussed in the clan meetings. They are expected to manage their populations on their own and legislation regarding their activities is set to be outside the limits of the provincial governments. Besides the Llyth and the Galaka, the Av Vara are a deeply respected clan of arms, and many kin'toni are interested in joining their number, and besides a psychological test, nothing else is required for those that wish to enlist.

Unlike the Llyth and the Galaka, who put their initiated through several years of training and examining before promising them a place in the clan, that is not the way with the Av Vara, however once a warrior takes up the membership, it never be taken off.

Government

The Av Vara govern their own affairs and report to the High Marshal of the Junta, which is essentially the head of the whole military establishment of the Ashat nation and is chosen by the nations’ junta and the pioneer clans’ council. Since the founding of the nation, the High marshal has always been a warrior of the Llyth clan, until recently it was the founder of the Llyth clan, and at present the head of the clan has been honoured with the position. The High marshal is an enviable position and is one of the few positions in the nation that can be said to be truly powerful.

For in the capacity as the High marshal one has the enviable position of being able to direct all of the armed forces of the nation. The position is not something that the current Llyth kin'toni seems to be enjoying the responsibility of, and it must be realised that the position is one that is immensely demanding. In the past the Llyth clan founder was responsible for the duties of the High Marshal while the head of the clan as chosen by the founder served in the council. This is no longer the case, as the founder of the Llyth clan chose to retire away from the Jau Jungle Hills.

The head of the clan has been occupying both roles, that of the representative of the Llyth to the pioneer clans’ council as well as that of the High marshal, and he doesn’t seem to enjoying the process. It is in fact common knowledge that the Llyth clan is highly short staffed, with the duties of the war that they have taken on in order to remain in touch with their culture has meant that they have to go above and beyond just to keep pace with their administrative roles and responsibilities.

There are rumours now that the Llyth Head will step down from the position of the High marshal and the position will be handed to the founder of the Av Vara clan. This will be a momentous occasion and would do much to assuage the common public about the relationship they have with the Av Vara. The Av Vara have always been seen as separate from the government and the common experience of the people is that they are not truly a part of the administration, and even though they are widely admired by many of the kin'toni, there are still those that examine them with suspicion.

This has to do with the manner in which the Av Vara were created, for in the minds of the common kin'toni, the Av Vara is the clan that is being used by their government and that it was sacrificing the lives of the Av Vara clan that the normalcy of the lives of the other Ashatan kin'toni clans was established. There seems to be a guilty conscience among the common citizens about the fate of the Av Vara, which they do not share at all.

Military

The Av Vara are famed soldiers, and form the whole of the army of the Ashat nation, certainly there are other kin'toni clans that are interested in the soldiers profession but none are as accomplished at it as they Av Vara are besides, the warrior clans of the Llyth and the Galaka. While the Llyth and the Galaka are mainly those troops that deal with the engagement of shield blocks, the Av Vara are not the kind of troops to utilise the tactic. This mostly has to deal with the numbers.

Ideally the shield blocks should be deployed when the numerical advantage is out of the question, as the shield blocks are able reduce the contact between the opposing armies, they do not allow the numerical advantage to come into play. For instance, I it was possible to surround the whole shield block with your troops, there would undoubtedly be openings that could be easily exploited. In this way, the smaller hosts prefer to have the shield blocks as they are able to remain effective even in small numbers.

On the other hand this kind of warfare require a lot of finesse and subtlety that not all troops are capable of, and in this way the engagement can end being a lot lengthier and cost more lives. The Av Vara on the other hand have a different tactic, and it has won them significant success in the domain of warfare, as they have been able to master their kind of warfare. Not to mention that their kind of warfare is relatively new to the world, and although zu'aan records seem to indicate its existence in the past, there are not a lot of mentions of it.

Alongside the alien nature of the kind of war the Av Vara fight, the enemies are also hampered by the clunkiness and sluggish nature of the Shield blocks, which unless used by experts can be just as much of a hampering factor as the attack of the enemy itself. The tactic and stratagem that the Av Vara are able to apply allows for them to use the advantage of their numbers really well and allows them to adapt very quickly. The Av Vara are experts in the deployment of armies in formations, which are basically like shield blocks but unlike shield blocks.

They do not require the locking in of troops. Instead the troops maintain their own guard and remain close to one another, they are able to deploy in various shapes and sizes depending on the size of the host that they are facing in battle. In this way the kin'toni are able to mould to new threats and even completely surround enemy soldiers. The effective use of the formations has been a large reason for the success of the Av Vara in the field of battle.

The Llyth founder, who was also the previous High marshal was responsible for devising the initial strategy of the tactic, but they have been independently developed by the Av Vara.

Religion

The Av Vara like most of the kin'toni of the Ashat nation are devotees of the Eyeless god, and they follow the example of the Llyth in their devoutness. The temple of the Eyeless god is an essential feature of all their camps whenever they are established on long lasting war fronts. However for those kin'toni of the clan that are posted in regions where the temple of the Eyeless god is not available, they visit the temples they have access to and mark their bodies with the points of purity as they are called.

The points of the purity are the marks that develop on the skin when a kin'toni is exposed directly to the point of light that is passed into the water tanks of the Eyeless god. The reasoning behind the points of purity, is not only interesting but rather indicative of the inner workings of the minds of the Av Vara. It must be understood that the Eyeless god doesn’t have any overarching ideology which seeks to dictate how the kin'toni should make the decisions of their daily life, but in essence talks about the purity of purpose and the corruption of material things.

The Eyeless god confers to the kin'toni kind through the patriarchs of their family groups, who as part of the custom, spend several hundred hours contemplating the points of purity that are marked on their body. The form the leadership of the religion, but their interpretation of the messages provided by the Eyeless god are for the benefit of their family group alone. At the core of the religion of the Eyeless God is the understanding that the sunlight that comes into the world is loaded with potential of the Eyeless god.

It is the very essence of the god, and as it passes through the world it is dulled by all the sin and evil that the zu'aan of old had generated, so much so that the visage of the Eyeless got had begun to change colour. This was one of the leading indicators for how badly the zu'aan had earned the wrath of the Eyeless god, and as the zu'aan begin to be converted to the purest form of life that is kin'toni life, the god was pleased and the evil red colour that had been forced upon his visage has begun to retreat and now his aspect only turns the colour at the time of setting.

The kin'toni relationship with the sun and its sun rays is also one that is complex, when first kin'toni kind emerged out of the shadows, the zu'aan were livid that their future was being denied by a product of nature. They tried to discredit the kin'toni by claiming that the kin'toni were a product of evil and the demon, they were evil incarnate and that was why the kin'toni were unable to come out into the sun without being hurt. It is perhaps true that many kin'toni were affected by their lies and believed themselves to be evil.

Miscellany

The negative emotions the kin'toni had about their own genesis and propagation did not change over night, for many kin'toni had leaned into the lies of the zu'aan and had begin to lead lives of harm and evil. As the religion of the Eyeless god emerged, more and more kin'toni began to embrace the meaning of the gift they had been granted and came to peace with the mission that nature itself had granted them, which was the abolition of the zu'aan kind from the face of the planet.

It is not unreasonable to state that the religion of the Eyeless god witnessed the resurgence of kin'toni kinds morale and belief in themselves. Prior to the rekindling of the religion most of the kin'toni saw themselves in depiction as invaders and attackers of the innocent, but with the presence of the viewpoint of the Eyeless god, the kin'toni were able to realise that they weren’t invaders at all but liberators who had been tasked with the destruction of an organism that that begun to kill the very nature that spawned it.

In that resurgence of morale and indignation at the acts of the zu'aan came the new definition of why the kin'toni were unable to expose themselves to the sunlight, while the zu'aan had claimed that it was because of the evil that ran within their veins, the devotees of the Eyeless god spoke about the essence of nature. Over the years, there have been several religions that have been founded and established since the kin'toni took over the operation of the civilised world. Most of these religions have a single unifying truth that runs through all of them, this is the truth of nature and the relationship it has with kin'toni.

Almost all religions claim that the kin'toni were birthed by nature and their bond with it is far deeper than the relationship the zu'aan of the Xerea Empire had with it. This is also believed by the sect of the Eyeless god, but this religion goes one step further to claim that the kin'toni are essentially made of nature, that through their veins runs the essence of nature. And it is the presence of this essence that prevents the kin'toni from being able to be exposed to the sun, which is the parent of nature itself, sees in the kin'toni a pure thing that it is able to touch.

The touch of the sun is fire for the kin'toni, as the sun seeks to liberate the nature within and take it up to the heavens alongside it. In this way, the sun is not seeking to harm the kin'toni but rather to unify it with the goodness of nature. Therefore this is one of the reasons why the kin'toni that fall in combat are also not buried by this sect but instead they are exposed to the sun whose light is able to then liberate the remaining life in the body and join it with the soul that had been already liberated.
