History

The Kinper kin’toni clan had a unique evolution. Where there were some clans that would try as they might to live the same way that they had when they were zu’aan, and there were others that would reject that they needed to drink blood to survive, but the Kinper clan was different. They didn’t seem to care that their lives were a changed, and instead decided that they would take this new opportunity to go and start an entirely new life. In doing so, they moved from their home and found Samgh Forest Hill. When they found it, it was a lush forest with a hill in the middle that they knew would be perfect for them.

They started building their homes into the sides of the hill, having only their doors and a couple of windows showing from the outside. As well, they realized that they were able to create a tunnel system inside of the hill so that they didn’t have to go outside and onto the hill to get to where they wanted to go, especially if that place was directly next door. They found the tunnels helpful when they needed to quickly travel to the other side of the mountain, as they would have to do so often. When they did have to spend time outside on the hills, they had attached ropes to the trees so that they could swing from them, allowing them to move faster through the forest.

They had done this because the forest floor was covered in thick brush, and the Kinper clan hadn’t waned to dedicate their time to clearing the forest when they knew that the foliage there would just grow back. Instead, they decided that they would come up with a new form of travel. As they would travel on the outside using only their arms, and because of how low the branches and ropes were, they ended up having to tuck their legs up under their bodies to keep them from dragging through the brush. This meant that after long amounts of travelling, their legs would still be tucked up under them, and would be stiff from not being used or moved.

Over time, their legs had become more and more useless. They were travelling mostly with their arms, and so they had evolved to only need their arms and hands for travelling. As their evolution had continued, their legs had shrivelled from being stuck under them while they were walking on their hands, and so many of them would tie their legs up under them so that they wouldn’t drag on anything, as many of them had lost the ability to move their legs. There were members of the clan that had kept some function in their legs, and they used them so that they could hold tools, weapons, or even pull carts with their legs or upper body.

They did this so that they were still able to defend themselves, and the members that used their legs as hands were the ones that would go on to become the military and the government.

Psychology

While their evolution was quick, there was a lot that they had going on mentally within their clan that made it seem as though they were a rough and desolate clan. The government within the clan did their best to ensure that the citizens would stay in line with their rulings, changing laws on a whim to ensure that it was known that they were in charge. Because of this, there was a widespread panic felt throughout the clan, as they would do what they could to avoid the leaders and officials. While the members of the clan would live in fear that their laws would be changed to make it look as though what they were doing was illegal, they would still meet in private with other members of the clan to partake in events and actions that were deemed illegal anyways.

Since they had built the tunnel system, many of the citizens had found a way to hide themselves in the side of the hill, in a room that only they knew the location of, so that they could partake in their meetings. While there, they would talk about their plans, they would have fun, and they would hide from the officials. They would make sure that they weren’t going in groups that were too large, as they knew that in doing so, they would draw more attention to themselves. So when they would go to their meeting room to seek refuge, they would be on a time limit to ensure that each member had the same amount of time where they were able to hide.

Since the members of the clan walked on their hands and didn’t use their feet, physician fights that would erupt within the clan looked very different. They would each try and balance on one hand so that they could hit each other with their other hands, and some had even been able to use their legs to kick who ever it was that they were fighting. Since there was no law that said fighting was against the law, there would be frequent fights as the members of the Kinper clan were hot-headed and easily triggered by their anger. As they would fight, there would be times that they would end up killing each other, and this would cause even more panic amongst the citizens of the clan.

Murder was one thing that was looked down on by the government, and would usually mean that the person who committed the murder would be executed as well. This meant that the other members of the clan would bear witness to their friend dying, even if the murder they had committed had been an accident. The way that the execution happened would be the decision of the officials, and they would usually chose to make it public in hopes that they would be able to install fear into the rest of the citizens. They did this so that they would have a reason to execute more members however, not so that they could scare the citizens straight.

Biology

As it had been previously stated, the members of the Kinper clan had evolved to be able to walk on their hands. They had done so because they would use ropes to swing around their forest, as it was too much of a pain to them to have to consistently clean the forest floor. Since they would swing for long periods of time, the use of their legs had become unnecessary, and so they had decided to tie their legs up under them so that they wouldn’t be dragging as they were walking on their hands. Because the clan wouldn’t use their legs for much more than carrying some things, and sometimes fighting, their legs had become shrivelled and unusable.

The muscle tone had been lost, and so the clan was forced to figure out how to function without their legs. While there were still members that were able to use their legs and feet as hands, the rest of the clan members would keep their feet tucked up so tightly to their bodies, that their legs would fuse to the skin there. Some had even managed to evolve so far that their legs looked as though they had been absorbed back into their bodies. While this was a unique evolution for the Kinper clan, it was not something that they would allow to slow them down.

They had built up enough muscle tone in their arms that they were able to run as fast, if not faster than the average kin’toni that was running on their legs. They had found a way to attach vests and other garments to themselves so that they would still be able to carry things while they were moving around, and they had learned how to deal with the stares of other kin’toni when they would leave the comfort of their hill to go and complete meetings. Aside from their bodies, the Kinper kin’toni looked as average as a regular kin’toni.

They were lean with milky white skin that shone in the moonlight, and they had piercing blue eyes with a purple ring that sat around their pupil. This made their eyes look as though they were dark as night from a distance, but up close you could see the colour difference. Their hair was kept short regardless of what gender they were, as that would ensure they wouldn’t get their hair stuck in the ropes as they were moving through the forest, dragging on the ground behind them as they walked, or getting stuck in their contraptions that they would use to pull large quantities of things.

While there were members that would want to change their appearance so that they could look different from the other members of the clan, they wouldn’t dare to do so without approval from the government as changing their appearance would mean they could be sent to jail for trying to be different.

Culture

It was widely known that the Kinper clan wasn’t a traditional clan. They were rowdy and easily angered, but it was their government that had spoiled their fun. While they would want to participate in birthdays, holidays, and even events that were unique to the clan itself, their government had done what they could to ensure they wouldn’t be able to do so. There were many laws in place that would ensure the clan wasn’t able to participate the way that they wanted to, and that was something that the citizens intended to change.

When there were birthdays, the officials would inspect the gifts that were to be given to the one celebrating their birthday, and they would do so on the premise that they needed to make sure they weren’t being gifted something dangerous. However, they would usually check the gifts, and if it was something that they wanted to keep for themselves, they would take it and state that they were going to confiscate it. The citizens knew what that meant, and they would usually see the officials using their gift for themselves not even hours later.

This angered the citizens, and so they had come up with ways to celebrate their birthdays and be able to keep their gifts. Since the same went for weddings and other celebrations that included gifts, the members of the Kinper clan would give their friends and family members gifts that they knew the officials wouldn’t want, and then in secret, usually in their hidden room, they would give them the gifts that they actually wanted them to have, and that way they were able to keep their gifts.

Aside from there celebrations, the officials were always hesitant to allow the citizens to host parties or to have any sort of fun as they believed that they would cause chaos, or that they would attract unwanted attention from other clans. Each time any of the citizens wanted to hold a party of any sort, they would be asked multiple questions and essentially interrogated about how many people were going to be there, if they were going to be loud, if there would be gifts, and how much blood they would be consuming as they were partying. Many times, the amount of questions and details they would have to provide would deter them from wanting to hold any sort of parties, and this was how the officials wanted it.

If they did allow parties, the officials would usually find a way to stop the party and make the citizens go back to their homes. Usually they would only allow parties inside of the hill, but there were still citizens that would push to have their parties outdoors, and those were the parties that the officials would break up at before they would need to. Because of this, there weren’t many celebrations or events that the members of the Kinper clan would be allowed to participate in, and so they would spend their days doing chores instead of having fun.

Government

Since the Kinper clan had such a strict government, the citizens were always living in fear that their officials would decide to change their laws on whims. This was a common occurrence, so the fear that the citizens had was understandable. Their officials would decide that they didn’t like a law or that they didn’t like something one of the kin’toni was doing and so they would change the law in an instant just so that they would have a reason to jail one of their citizens. The government worked heavily off of keeping their citizens in fear. They would do anything that they could to scare the members of the clan into doing what they wanted.

This meant that as soon as the citizens were used to the laws the way that they were, they would be changed quickly so that they could keep the fear there and ensure that they were always seen as the law within the clan. The officials would frequently break their own laws, and they did so openly so that the citizens would know that they were untouchable. What the officials hadn’t been expecting was that the citizens were planning to revolt and to overthrow the government. However, when they did finally try, the officials sent most of them out of the clan, telling them that if they wanted their own laws so badly, that they could leave and make their own clan.

However, what they hadn’t realized was that the citizens were prepared to leave the clan, regardless of the fact that they didn’t have anywhere that they were able to go. Because of the threat of each and every one of their citizens leaving their clan, the government would be scared into doing as their citizens asked. However, they would only change what they wanted to be changed for a short time before they would change everything back. Once they were able to establish that their citizens weren’t going to leave, they would go back to the ways that they had previously.

This got old eventually as the officials would call the bluff of the members of the clan, stating that they were only saying they were going to leave because they didn’t like the laws, and so the officials were victorious in keeping their laws the same, and keeping the members of the Kinper clan under their rule. Since the members didn’t always want to listen to the laws, they would go to their hidden room at different points In the say so that they could do whatever it was that they wanted to, without having to worry about being sent to jail for it.

The officials hadn’t been able to figure out what it was that the citizens were doing when they would disappear, but because there was no reason to be suspicious of them, they would leave them to what they were doing and find other members of the clan to torment.

Military

Because of the way the officials liked to keep their power, they had decided that they would have a mandatory military, and that all of the strongest and most able kin’toni would have to join it. They would require each strong member to learn how to use the weapons that they liked, those being swords and shields, while also being able to hold them. Since the kin’toni walked on their hands, and many of them didn’t have the use of their legs, this was a hard task to accomplish. Although, they had managed to find a way to be able to balance on one arm so that they could swing their swords to fight, and they would attach their shields to their clothing so that they wouldn’t fall off of them while they were fighting.

Each of the members of the military had to learn different fighting styles so that they could keep up with the demand of the government. There were some members that had learned how to use bows so that they could perform ranged attacks, and they had taught themselves how to use what little motion they had in their feet to do so. This gave them the ability to stay back while their other members rushed in to fight, and they would assist from a distance. While the officials didn’t like the idea of the clan attracting unwanted attention, they would frequently send their military into battles with and against other clans so that they could show that they weren’t a weak clan just because they looked different.

The members of the military would fight as hard as they could, usually coming out victorious in their battles without losing too many of their members. The military would fight with a logical approach, ensuing that they wouldn’t have to send any of their members to their deaths. Although deaths would happen, they would do what they could to ensure that they wouldn’t lose their members. They weren’t able to save all of their members, so they would do what they could to honour those that were lost when they would go into their next battle.

With the deaths, the officials wouldn’t allow ant funerals to take place once the military would return back to the hill. They weren’t allowed to talk about the fallen member openly or they would face jail time from the officials. This was because the officials believed that the military members shouldn’t have funerals because they had died doing what they were supposed to be doing, just as they wouldn’t give a farmer a funeral if they passed away from working too hard. The citizens would be outraged that their military, who would fight for them to be safe, weren’t allowed to be honoured and remembered by the members of the clan.

When the military would come back, the officials would make an announcement about which members were killed, and then they would proceed to ask the next strongest members of the clan to come to training the following day. There were no words about how brave the members were before they were killed, just that they were dead and that they needed to be replaced as soon as possible .

Religion

It was widely known that the Kinper clan didn’t have any religious beliefs. Their leaders and officials had decided long ago that they didn’t need to have any sort of beliefs in that way as they would take away from the time that the citizens would need to be following their laws and listening to the rule of the officials. Since there had been other members that had tried to have their own religion despite the leaders of the clan not liking it, there had been a law put in place stating that any member of the clan that decided that they would have a religion, despite the law, would be jailed, and if they were to do it again, they would be executed.

This was something that had caused a massive uproar in the clan, as the members didn’t believe that they should be executed because they had wanted to chase religion. Because of the fact that they knew they would be executed if they were caught, the members of the clan that wanted to be religious would hide their beliefs where they could, and would keep it all silent while they were practicing their religions. Because they had the hidden room within the hill, there were members that would take breaks during the day so that they could go and practice their religion in peace.

The other members of the clan would be understanding about the members that would want to practice their religions, and so they would leave the room once the other members got there and they would make sure other members knew not to go to the room until that member came out. Sometimes that would stand guard outside of the room, or just down the hall to ensure that if there ever was a time that an official came sniffing around, the one standing guard would give a signal to ensure that the member hid their things and made it look as though they weren’t doing anything that was illegal.

This was something that they didn’t have to plan to do, as the members all understood the need to protect their other members, especially when they knew that execution was on the line for breaking laws. What they had wanted to do with their religion was to be able to use it to become exempt from the law there. They had wanted to be able to hide their members so that the officials there couldn’t have them executed on a whim because they believed they were breaking laws.

It was something that the citizens had tried to accomplish for a long time, but because the officials didn’t respect their religion, and instead had outlawed it, using religion as a fighting tactic ended up being something that would turn jail time into an execution.
