Eawa Kin'toni Clan
History
Soon after the Shattering Age started, the first few of a group of fledgling kin'toni tasting blood went on a hunting spree. They mercilessly killed the tribe people in the nightfall to meet their hunger. They were brutal enough to kill children passing by them. The empire which once spun the thread to prosperity was reduced to a bloodbath. The city was completely conquered after several battles against zu´aan remaining soldiers that pretended to defend the city and eliminate the kin'toni, even if that required blowing up important buildings.
Some way the zu´aan knew about the weakness of their enemies to the sunlight and they pretended to blow up as many buildings as possible, the idea was to left the kin'toni without refuge against sunlight; this strategy almost razed the city. Nights then on were painted in red. The Magdar kin'toni leader, soon learned learned he could turn zu'aan into his own kind. Taking advantage of this knowledge he used it cleverly to enlighten others and thus, gain a political superiority among others.
As a consequence, he was chosen as the leader who would guide the Eawa monsters in their day-to-day new life. He was also the first one of his newly turned clan to discover that they had an aversion to sunlight, so strong so as to cause them death. This fact further made the kin'toni walk the path led by their founder so as to stay safe and directed. In the vicinity of nights, he steered his working force to develop various underground shelters, much like storm shelters in order to stay protected in the daylight.
As time processed many of them newly changed kin'toni left for other cities to find a fresh destiny along with very few originals of the clan. Maximum original kin'toni soldiers preferred reigning the place of their origin. Magdar kin'toni continued to rule the Eawa Kin'toni Clan in the city of Eawa. The city soon came to gain political dominance. Soon Magdar noticed the other kin'toni clans were adopting religions and diverse government systems, different from his dictatorship, he realized too many contacts with other clans would be dangerous to keep the control, to have their followers clean and free of external influences.
During a time Magdar decided his territory would be forbidden for the estrangers, although his terrain is rich in resources they don´t have the technology to process and make new weapons and tools, most of the industrial buildings were damaged during the battle against the zu´aan survivors that tried to keep the city. Having no other choice Magdar decided to open diplomatic relations with other kin'toni clans that could trade weapons and tools in exchange for the material.
Despite the pacific relationships, Magdar still refuses to open full contact with other clans, he only permits trade and celebrations. He believes the city can be self-sufficient, he leads the people and works in projects that would improve their technological development to the point he can close external contact permanently.
Biology
They are pale white in color. A shade one or two darker than the moon. Their eyes have light red irises with a black sclera, a horizontal rectangular round pupil. Their lips a perfectly shaped pink. Their hair color ranging in between blonde and light brown. Over time they have taken to sophisticated biting. Their stature is almost the same as the zu´aan, slightly tall than them. They prey on their prey in quiet, without making any noise, they prefer to hunt with weapons since it is more trustable than bare hands.
Their legs strength let them jump high distances and run very fast, their fists can hit with the strength of 190 lbs, their jaw has the pressure of 390 lbs, weight. Biologically sterile as they are, they indulge in women rarely for physical needs. While their strength and durability is their stout and rigid army built allowing them to form a great military power, their weakness lies in their narrow-mindedness that prevents them to grow or include young kin'toni to their clan.
Their thick skin is resistant to cuts and hits, however, it is vulnerable to piercing attacks. Their heart is a vulnerable part that they give priority to cover. Another weakness they possess is the sunlight exposition, they can resist sun damage only for 30 seconds, after that the skin change color to black and starts a fast decay process that expands to the muscles and organs. Exposed to the sunlight their skills reduce to less than half.
Their senses become more acute, with better ear and sharper sight; they can listen to a prey at 80 feet distance and close a target at 160 feet far away, however, their brain becomes slower in other functions like processing information or developing non-combat skills, in a way they became more primitive than zu´aan. They are better workers in bulk labors like mining and digging, although they can move the hands faster than the zu´aan, they can´t control the impulse enough to make faster activities like tailor, paint, assemble or draw.
Their lung capacity let the kin'toni hold the breath for 3 to 5 minutes making physic activity, this capacity could be improved to longer time lapses with the practice. Their respiratory system keeps being vulnerable to poisonous gas. kin'toni nutritional requirements are bigger than the zu´aan. They prefer to eat raw food, especially meat, their incontrollable bloodthirst is due to a lack of D vitamin in their circulatory system, fresh blood help them to feel better, it would take constant amounts to make up of it fully.
The kin'toni stomach is resistant to many diseases provoked by eating raw food, their capacity is considered between 8 to 12 lbs. of organic matter. kin'toni stomach is still vulnerable to poison and other toxins present in mushrooms, insects, reptiles, and amphibious.
Culture
Owing to their base being in their place of origin they take huge pride in celebrating their originality. Every year they commemorate the founder's day as the day of independence, as the day of freedom. It has become a part of their culture. They sing, feast, and organize grand festivities in the largest of all, the 'Elysian field'. Members from all the other clans come and take part in the merriment. Their loyalty to the leader makes them have obedience as the only purpose in life, they have big confidence and faith on his leadership and work hard in the founder´s projects.
There is no a common trade coin, however, they use to trade weapons and work tools. With other clans, they trade materials for weapons and armor. They are not very interested in art pieces, mainly because they think a statue or sculpture could represent a foreign god, they are not interested in known about other clan´s religions. They don´t have a complex writing system, it is reduced to mark symbols in the walls that represent words as “leader”, “armory”, “train”, “work”, depending on the purpose of the section.
There are no symbols for each individual name. They have numbers, the same numeration system as many kin'toni clans and zu´aan tribes, they use it mainly during their construction projects, they don´t use numbers on themselves. They know entertainment like the music, they enjoy it in celebrations with other clans, even so, they don´t have their own music. The closer is loyalty hymns they use to sing while they are working underground. Their legends and tales are related to the founder life, real battles that happened and interesting things that happened in the clan.
Eawa kin'toni clan enjoys games that other clans don´t have. One of these games is practiced between hunters, when two hunters have preys of the same size each hunter carries the body and runs to the shelter, the one who arrives first is the winner and is considered a better hunter than the other. Another game is practiced during mining. Each miner looks for a stone to play with. The miners set a big stone on the floor and mark a circle around, then each one must throw their stone to push the big stone out of the circle.
If somebody succeeds in pushing out the stone then other players must hit his stone by the same method. The winner is the one which stone endured inside the circle a full round. Another game they used to play is walk through the shelter with the eyes blindfolded, the player must walk without stop or crash with anything. If somebody stops walking or touches a wall must take out the bind of the eyes. The winner is the one who walks a bigger distance. kin'toni don´t have an advantage with the eyes blindfolded compared with the zu´aan in the same conditions.
Government
The legislative, judicial and executive head of the government is the founder, who is also hailed as the king. The Eawa Kin'toni clan is relatively authoritarian. He along with his right and left-hand rules the entire city. He designated assistants that use to be close to him, the subordinate members are more than often useless and powerless during the take of decisions. The founder takes decisions of what must be done but he designates others to be executive directors, these executives must do the design work and inspect the project while it is being constructed.
The most common projects are underground tunnels and shelter expansions. The director must explain to the workers the labor and certain details of the project. Also, there are projects like build fences to mark limit terrain and find material sources to build new weapons and work tools. The executive director must report daily the progress and important details as incidents or lack of workers. Magdar selected inspectors to verify and measure the loyalty between the clan members, the inspector works undercover, mixed between the crowd to listen to what people think about the founder and their ideas about religion.
If the inspector detects an individual with ideas about other government systems or other gods then report it to the leader. The inspector must watch close the suspect to be sure it is a potential deserter or it´s just a simple moment of doubt. Over the years the secret task of the inspector has work as proof the founder has a superior mind and he knows about what his people think. In complicated cases of judge an individual and the founder is occupied with other business he trusts in the inspector to decide what to do, the inspector can be a more reasonable judge than the leader.
Underground space is valuable, the founder considers prisons are a waste, then the guilty individuals use to be judged fast, according to the crime their loyalty is tested. Minor criminals as idle workers have to fulfill a specific task; thieves and counterfeiters must reattribute with the double of the price their crime represents; if they fail or their crime is something more severe they are executed in public or in the moment, it depends on how busy the founder is.
Over the years they have come to a few settling terms with the zu'aan tribes, which constantly is over crossed. Many kin'toni clans are neutral, there is relative peace with them. Magdar doesn´t trust enough in other clans to be considered allied or agree on joint projects, this decision has been the limit to bring to the clan improvements in architecture, design, and production, especially the forge which is a technological advance mastered by other kin'toni clans. Diplomatic relations with other clans are limited to trade and celebrations, Magdar prefers to avoid too much contact that could give to their own clan ideas about different government systems or other religions.
Military
A number of 200 well trained men constitute the military all together. The have been involved in training other freshly turned zu'aan grown-ups. They use varied tools such as the iron made swords that make an efficient weapon, spear throwers, bow and arrows, etc. They mostly believe in their own physical strength. Being fast runners with a sharp vision, they are indomitable after dawn. Despite their individual power they use to move in different group formations depending of the battle.
Their weapons used to be from zu´aan they defeated, that they took from the remains of the battlefield, they have no means to produce new weapons by smith, the process to make weapons from junk is slow, a sword can take two weeks cut and sharpened in the proper size, the faster weapons they can make are improvised spears from steel junk and wooden. The arrows are produced in large amounts, it takes time to collect branches enough; most of the new-made arrows are one single-use, most of them broke in the first battle.
The swords, axes, hammers, and shields use to be for the best warriors, while the younger, less experienced soldiers have to use poor quality weapons. They don´t use to hunt the weapons they made for battle, to hunt big prey they prefer to wield long knives. Only soldiers hunt although it is not considered training. Unexperienced warriors must train without weapons, they must fight between them, and the last warriors standing are considered successfully trained, with no winners. The next day they will train the same way.
A warrior who last standing consecutive 20 times can be considered worth training with weapons. Experienced warriors train with weapons, they train in pairs, exchanging attacks with each other, and the purpose is to resist attacks and break the other´s defense. Most of the experienced warriors' training ends in a draw, however, there neither consider winners. The armor is reduced to cover the chest, more of the armor pieces are torn apart because they believe it slows them, only the high-rank soldiers can wear a helmet.
Like the weapons, the armors are taken from the defeated enemies, they are not enough so the younger warriors make their chest armor by attaching steel plates to leather. There is common to have battled against zu´aan soldiers and even other kin'toni clans that pretend to expand their territory, their territory is a potential trade route and there are resources enough to live without starvation, that´s why it is coveted.
Religion
They have one religion and that is them. The Eawa kin'toni clan is expected to worship none but their founder. He is the Supreme. He is the God. They believe the kin'toni transformation brought by the leader is an act of mercy, something between a second chance to live and a resurrection from death, although this more than often inflicts controversies among themselves causing few to abandon the clan. Their belief system is similar to a dictatorship, they admire and respect a living individual instead of intangible gods.
The speeches of their leader are considered to have a religious meaning, similar to preach of a priest. They use to build altars dedicated to the founder, few of them have the skill enough to make sculptures or paintings of the leader. There is a considerable amount of religious art in the clan hall, however, statues and portraits of any other than the founder have no spiritual meaning, just pieces of art. The closer to priests is the direct subordinate members of the Eawa Kin'toni clan, who use to memorize and repeat the speeches of the leader to the rest of the population.
Every single order sent through them is considered a spiritual task. Orders not accomplished are considered a reason of sorrow and shame, no matter the leader doesn´t care about the spiritual repercussions of the people. There are a few acts and omissions that can be considered blasphemous, actions that would deserve to be punished. The worst disrespect is the next: disobey an order from the founder, damage a religious art piece or altar, trespassing the founder´s quarters without permission, and adore another deity than the leader.
Most of the disrespectful actions can be expiated by a loyalty trial, these trials are different according to the blame and none of them are easy however some are harder than others. One of the most common trials is to survive one day out of the shelter, which means find cover from the daylight; a few ones survive to this trial, even so, it is possible if they are lucky enough to find a cave, a deep fissure or a piece of junk large enough to block complete sunlight. For the sinners who damaged a religious art piece, the trial is to make another art piece dedicated to the founder which quality is the same level the damaged art piece.
A judge evaluates the art piece made, if the quality level is too low the sinner must destroy the art piece and start over from the first a new one. The sinner who blame is to disobey an order or adore another god has the worst punishment. To succeed the expiation the sinner must be tied to stacks with arms and legs spread and survive the direct exposition to sunlight for a day. If the sinner survives will be forgiven and accepted back, but nobody survives such a trial.
Sinners who are accused of the worst disrespect have a better chance to survive if they leave the clan before be judged. They become deserters, they must find another clan that accepts them or will be chased by their former clan.
Miscellany
Eawa city is bigger underground than on the surface, it is covered with rubbish and the remains of blown-up buildings. The stone chunks are scattered in every direction, Magdar is planning to reconstruct them one day, meanwhile, the clan is busy digging underground shelters. The urban roads of the zu´aan empire are intact, which makes Eawa city a potential trade route to many zu´aan and kin'toni settlements. There are 190 hymns dedicated to the founder, they sing them in a different order to have the feeling there are more, and don´t be bored of singing always the same.
The executive director designated by the leader use to be the followers he knows from a long time ago is the same case with the inspectors. He considers them his friends, although they consider him their leader. The weddings are celebrated during tributes to the leader, the couple swears loyalty to the leader first, then both swear to love each other. The last time the city planned a joint project with another kin'toni clan the workers of both clans were found singing different hymns, just the other clan was singing to his gods.
When Magdar noticed their followers were being introduced to another religion he canceled the deal and the project was abandoned. When hunters come back after the hunt, they offer to the leader the biggest piece of meat. Eawa citizens trade pieces of gold and silver instead coins. They want to have coins with the face of the founder but they have no technology to make them in big amounts. The underground shelters have long, narrow corridors and rooms with rounded shapes, the ground and stone chunks dug went dumped in the surface.
They are mixed with the remains of the destroyed city. Eawa citizens like to socialize in celebrations with other clans, they enjoy to know the games other kin'toni clans play but they don´t want to share the games they play. There is a section in the dump area where the remains of poor quality art pieces are dumped, only good quality sculptures and statues are acceptable. The subordinate members of the founder want to hire professional artists from other clans to make sculptures and portraits of him, he refuses due he consider any artist with a different religion is unclean.
The same discussion has endured for years and is always interrupted because one of the parts changes the subject. There are small shelters dug along with the Eawa Kin'toni clan territory which doors are hidden. These shelters work as emergency refuges and guard posts. The product more wanted by Eawa citizens are shovels and pickaxes, they have tried to make their own tools but make a good shovel is hard. Unexperienced warriors use to make the labors of digging and mining, the hunt is reserved to the expert soldiers.
There are circles with stacks set with ropes ready in many places, those circles are to judge the deserters and inveterate sinners. The process to select a zu´aan is long and complicated, they want to be sure if it is worth it and make the different test on the candidate, who usually dies before the transformation.
