Geography

The Seegor blanket bog forms the western boundary of the Ashat kingdom of the kin'toni that is ruled by the Pioneer clans’ council, here the kin'toni kingdoms of the Ashat and Itkal meet, the boundary between the two is a highly contested region, despite the numbers dangers associated with the landscape its productivity in supporting blood stock is amazing. Historically, the Ashat have held the bogs for the longest of times, as they do so today, but the bog has changed ownership several times in the past century.

There are no trading posts in the region, that allow for the perennial trade between the Itkal and Ashat nations, this trade is allocated for regions that are more peaceful and the boundaries are settled. The bogs are the home to ivokalinkors that the Ashat nation famously developed for feeding their armies and people, the ivokalinkor is closely related to the zu'aan and as such has the kind of blood that tastes most like the zu'aan themselves. The Ashat under pioneer clans’ council have tried several times to establish farms of ivokalinkors elsewhere in their kingdom.

As well but have failed to establish a community that is as productive as the one found in the bogs. The bogs are connected to the rest of the nation by way of road and river, the river sees a lot of incoming traffic as the ivokalinkors depend on the import of bananas and coconut as their primary source of food, and this is brought in from the Iturn Dead Swamps of the Ashat nation itself, which is where the plantations of Banana and coconut are found. The bogs themselves have few areas large enough to allow for the cultivation of crops.

The terrain is very challenging and it is difficult work conducting regular patrols as well as fielding any large forces in the area and this is why the bogs are so difficult to secure completely. The Ashat have managed to keep an upper hand in the fights of the region due to the fact that the forces they field are almost always better equipped than the ones of the Itkali kingdom, whose quality of weapons is severely outmatched. Although, the Itkali outmatch their opponent in the tactics they employ and the experience of their soldiery.

The bogs see a skirmish between the two forces nearly every month, although there are almost no deaths in these engagements they are nonetheless draining. The bogs therefore witness the deployment of military personnel in large numbers, and there are little to no civilian establishments in the bogs, another factor that affects the presence of the kin'toni in the region is that like the swamps of the Ashat nation, these bogs are also home to the carnivorous plants.

The carnivorous plants in this region are not as strictly fought as those ones of the swamps, instead, the Ashat encourage their growth in certain areas to help guard the forests against the invasion of the Itkali kin'toni who are much less familiar to the ways of the carnivorous plants. The Seegor Blanket Bog supports a very complex ecosystem, the bogs are an extremely infertile region, the only plants that grow in the region are those that have specifically adapted to the environment of the bogs over the long centuries that it has remained unchanged.

Attempts to plant trees here in order to feed the unsustainably large population of the Siamese monkeys that has been cultivated in the region. The plants that could support dietary requirements of the siamese monkey farms have failed miserably in the bogs, as result they are brought in from the swamp marshes of the Ashat nation. The primary challenge lies in the soil itself which has been so thoroughly inundated with moisture that there isn’t any room for air bubbles in the soil as such the roots of most plants are unable to breathe through their roots.

The plants that have evolved for growth in the region like the mangrove trees of the coasts have evolved to have roots that grow vertically out of the ground. In an attempt o try and improve the habitation conditions of the bog, the Pioneer clans’ council tired to plant some mangrove trees like those planted in the bliss beaches however, the pH of the soil here is far too basic for the mangrove trees to grow. The weather in the bog region is hot and moist, it is sunny nearly throughout the year and it rains nearly everyday at midday.

In the past few decades however the spell of winter have begun to become noticeably longer, and the kin’toni believe this to be due to the expanding influence of the ice that seems to be growing further out of the poles every year. Due to the frequency of the precipitation in the region, the sky is almost always cloudy, paired with the presence of unique trees that provide a decent size of canopy, the kin’toni are able to walk in the region even during the day, and so the area is not a popular posting among the soldiers, since it requires the posting of patrols throughout the day as well as the night.

The wind system in the bogs region is almost non existent and this further aids in the creation of a weather system that most kin'toni find to be very smothering. This feeling of claustrophobia makes the posting of military in the region another challenge, for it is aggravated by the fact that the bogs have a lot of dead and decomposing matter in the soil, and so the putrid stench of decay is ever prevalent in the bogs. The kin'toni which have a heightened sense of smell in comparison to their zu'aan counterparts are bound to struggle in such an environment.

However the Itkali do not seem to share the problem with the stench as much as the kin'toni of the Ashat nation, and some claim that this is due to the fact that the Itkali are used to a meal of yak that smells much worse than the smell of the bog.

Plants

The bogs have a very varied variety of plant life, although the plants grown in the region are not particularly nutritious and as such they do not allow for the formation of several trophic levels in the ecosystem’s food chains. The primary producers in the region are the hollow nathuyvaki trees, that cannot seem to draw enough nutrients from the soil to grow into a complete tree. The nathuyvaki trees although hollow have a vast canopy of branches that are not only sturdy but support a large number of leaves.

It is theorised that the success of the ivokalinkors in the region has been largely due to presence of the hollow nathuyvaki trees, which are unique to the region and being endemic they have been impossible to cultivate in other parts of the Taerel. The nathuyvaki trees have a very short lifespan but an incredible rate of replacement, a nathuyvaki tree generally begins to decay within the first 50 years since its sapling first blossomed its first fruit. The decaying nathuyvaki is generally replaced very quickly with at least two additional trees within the first year that the preceding nathuyvaki falls to the bog floor.

The nathuyvaki tree is a pale beige in colour and bleeds a white sap when incisions are made, the sap of the nathuyvaki tree is known to induce hallucinations as well but the kin'toni have been found to experience the same hallucinations upon consumption but find the sap extremely unpalatable. The ivokalinkors on the other hand have found to be very fond of the sap of the nathuyvaki tree. The nathuyvaki tree also has a very active reproductive process, the nathuyvaki generally produces a crop of fruit nearly every two years.

The fruit produced by the tree are dry and lignified, they decompose very slowly in the surrounding bog and sometimes take decades to germinate successfully. Another interesting plant that grows in the bog are the various species of the carnivorous plants, although the ones growing in the region are much smaller than their counterparts found in the swamps and other evergreen parts of the Taerel. The carnivorous plants of the bog are not able to consume as much or as effectively as the ones found in the swamp particularl.

As such the armies of the Ashat posted in the region have not initiated any large scale operations to eradicate the carnivorous plants found in the region. The presence of the carnivorous plants in the bogs have actually worked in the favour of the armies of the Ashat, since they have been exposed to the larger plants of the same variety in the swamps they are aware of the telltale signs of the plants while the Itkali kin'toni have no experience in dealing with the plants, this was one of the factors that prevented the Itkali from retaining control of the bogs when they first gained possession of them.

The Itkali were unaware that there were plants that could not only kill kin'toni but kill them in such significant numbers, and although they managed to keep the upper hand with the engagements of the battle with the Ashat kin'toni, they were unable to cope with the losses they suffered in trying to deal with the carnivorous plants.

Animals

The greater population of animals that is found in the region is that of the ivokalinkors that are raised for the purpose of supplying their blood to the kin'toni. The monkey’s live in societies with a tight hierarchy, and the ivokalinkors’ rigid social structure is very reminiscent of the zu'aan’ concept of the ethnicity. In general the ivokalinkors of different regions do not mix and fraternise, in fact observers have determined that the societies of the sapient monkey are capable of passing on rivalries through the generations as well as the capacity to conduct war.

The overseers of the societies generally do not allow the ivokalinkors to wage any war on a scale large enough to cause damage to the stocks. The ivokalinkors of habit of retaining a group identity has allowed the Ashat empire to experiment with different flavours of the ivokalinkor blood, by changing the nature of their diet. kin'toni have different preferences of flavour for the saline money blood, but the most prevalent one has been the mixture of the banana and coconut which is not only one of the best tasting but also the among the cheapest.

The most rare ones strain is developed upon the personal expense of the pioneer clans’ council and is used in the most special ceremonies involving the council. The ivokalinkor for this particular strain are fed only on a combination of the nathuyvaki sap, red wine and the blood of the par hog. The expensive strains price is a consequence of not only due to the rarity and difficulty in procuring the ingredient but also due to the increased number of the supervisors that must be assigned to take care of the ivokalinkors fed on the aforementioned mixture.

The price however is said to be well worth it, for the kin'toni that have tasted the rare blood claim to experience a feeling of bliss and oneness with the world that is impossible to describe, besides having a profound impact at the moment of consumption, the effects of the blood are said to be incredibly long lasting, sometimes extending up to several months. The representatives of the pioneer clans’ council by ceremony are required to consume a glassful of the diluted blood before their discussions begin.

a step put in place to ensure that the decisions of the council are made in favour of the whole nation and not just for the benefit of the ruling clans themselves. The sapient monkeys live in the hollow of the nathuyvaki trees, they carve out their homes into the wood itself, the process is incredibly destructive of the nathuyvaki trees, and initially there was concern that the ivokalinkors would destroy the nathuyvaki trees altogether but the nathuyvaki tree adapted relatively quickly and the number of nathuyvakis tree quickly began to grow and at present there seems to be a fine balance between the trees and the ivokalinkors.

The homes that the ivokalinkors create are able to house several individuals at the same time, and when the nathuyvaki tree begins to become too fragile, the ivokalinkors quickly move to another in order to carve out yet another home, the average ivokalinkor which lives to about the age of thirty generally changes homes at least twice in its’ life span.
