Geography
This region is composed by the south and west side of the forest with an even terrain and a less thick foliage than the north side. In the east and the north, towards the mountains the terrain ascends and descends changing abruptly and with rather high falls anyone can be prey of if they are not attentive. There are some streams that cross the forest, only some permanent trough the whole year as some only appear during the rain season.
In the centre of the forest is situated Jehaleda City that altough the tall skyscrapers tower over the trees blends surprisingly well with the forest. If inside of the woods it would be very difficult to see the city unless you climbed a particularly tall tree. This city is situated over an ancient asteroid impact which made the earth of that big clearing not suited for the Taik'uun trees to inhabit due to being rich in some harmful chemicals. It is why no tree will grow there.
The Wegivart Alpine Tundra is to the east seven days and a half of walking distance. The Wegivart Alpine Tundra is up a road leading uphill for miles and miles uphill, over varying alpine terrain such as alpine meadows, highlands and upper montane forests. This road is known as Alri Road. It is a steep and dangerous road that is narrow and crumbling in parts. Near the start of Alri road in the Randgriok Cloud Forest is a zu'aan ruin called Vaki-Nar, the ruins of a old hotel from the Xerea Empire Era.
The Slaugm Alpine-Steppe is to the north, two weeks of walking distance. To get to this area, one has to go though an thick dark area of the Randgriok Cloud Forest and ear the start of the path to this area winds though the trees and past the large stone ruins of Xer, the ruins of an pre-Xerea Empire civilization called the Tar Ayrl. They existed over five hundred years before the Xerea Empire and they build massive stone ruins. Xer was an old temple to the the God of the Sun and the Godess of the Moon that the Tar Ayrl worshiped.
Waanyu Valley is to the west, a month and two weeks of walking distance. The area sloping down towards the Waanyu Valley open out into a plains near the edge of the Randgriok Cloud Forest region. Of note in the west of the Randgriok Cloud Forest on the very border is the Eos Spire, a large rock spire that rises about the plains that border the Randgriok Cloud Forest region. The Eos Spire has been caved out into a fortress by a renegade group of zu'aan, that still live there as drifters. They live an hunter gathered lifestyle and are part of no major group of zu'aan.
The Yutin Whitewater River is to the south, two months and six days of walking distance. To the south, the Randgriok Cloud Forest thins out fast and the area fades into the craggy Yauli Highlands, known for its rugged terrain, then the rolling Aeru Hills and then the flat and treeless Kaneru plains, this finally fades into the Yutin Whitewater River region.
Plants
The forest contains a large quantity of different species of plants and fungus, below will be detailed the most prominent and important ones.
Taik'uun trees
These are tall and robust with a dark bark and a hard wood that has a tint of red when you get close to the centre of the tree. They have a dense foliage with tall branches that do a good work of shielding the sun. Their roots are thick and grow downwards, meaning that it is very difficult to grow this type of tree as they will burrow into the ground meters below in search of water and nutrition. Their leaves stay all year and little white flowers that appear close to each other will flourish after the rain season. These trees are hard to kill as they are able to survive cold months with a lot of snow and dry months without much water.
They are considered sacred because of their properties. Their sap has a desinfectante effect when diluted with water in its liquid form and can also be ingested to provide pain relief. It's bark and wood can be burned for hours ( Altough the people abstain as they don't want to damage the trees). And their flowers can be crushed and dried to make a sweet form of tea.
These trees are hard to kill as they are able to survive cold months with a lot of snow and dry months without much water. Not that this forest has that type of climate, they are also considered safe and companions to the zu'aan as they can offer cover or shade in these cases.
Huri Bushes
These are small and sturdy bushes that litter the woods floor, they don't need much light and their leaves are dark and small, which makes them perfect for the misty and wet climate of the forest. They are a preferred food source for the big game inhabiting Randgriok as well as their berries, also very dark and sour are a good food source for smaller birds.
Daikarium trees
These are conifers with a characteristic conical shape, beginning with low branches and ascending to high altitudes. They have monopodial growth, dark bark on the outside and Light on the inside and scented resin that can help ward harmful insects way, to the tree and some for the zu'aan (the problem is that the resin hardens quickly and high temperatures are needed to turn it back to viscous form). They poses Awl like leaves of a light green color that turns a darker shade with age of the leave, altough not as hard as the needle like leaves they can also be uncomfortable when dry.
They are frequently used for wood as it's highly resistant to weight and outside forces. While it can also be used for fires as it will burn slowly and produce good heat, altough that is only when dry, as when it's wet it can produce little explosions and can shoot extremely hot sap and water.
Weeds and Bushes
There are many types of bushes that group themselves in clearings and mostly the outer rim of the forest area. These vary in coloration and height altough a common denominator in many of them is the fact that they have thorns to defend themselves from greedy birds. The flowers range in colors from white to yellow and pink, some having a disgusting smell to attract some polinator flies.
As for weeds there are many. Ussualy they grow in the space between rocks, on the south side or near the roots of the Banshaia tree.
Animals
Altough it has a rich biodiversity here it will be illustrated the most important and representative species that inhabit Randgriok Cloud Forest.
Mamals and Reptiles
The forest is a house for plenty of animals, being rich in birds, medium sized rodents, big game and small predators.
On the south part of the forest or where the foliage is thicker you can find some nests of Anayau, they mostly come out at night and rarely venture further than the treeline. Inoffensive and shy they can only prove a good meal for a traveler.
In this area as well as the west side you can find a couple of Fynra'ni, they are avid predators of small rodents and small birds alike. Because those areas are where their preferred prey is that is where they prefer to live. Extremely territorial and agile, males go alone while females can live with their sisters and their cubs. Some zu'aan tried to tame them without much success.
There are also rumours of Hauii inhabiting this part of the forest, yet none has been seen and no exprorer from Jehaleda has been bitten. It probably originated because of the lack of small reptiles in the area as well as the little Anayau colony.
In the east is where the big game is, the vegetation is not as thick as in the north and the terrain is not as plain as in the south which makes it perfect for them to see any predators and hide or run for cover. Their preferred diet is the grass that grows in the clearings, some low bushes with very sour berries as well as some weeds that grow between rocks. In winter they migrate to the south eating the moss and nuts they can find. These are Yatli, a capstan deer like animal ( closely related to the Ys, a shovel deers like animal but bigger and darker in color with shorter antlers) as well as silver back daruoam (massive furry animal with a very thick skin and strong antlers, can weight a ton at most, non threatening unless provoqued) .
The west of the Randgriok Cloud Forest is mostly populated by jii and sarii, both mammals that feed on grass, berries, seeds and insects. Very fast and nutritious, the sarii being bigger than the jii as well as harder in temperament.
Outside the forest and towards the mountains, where they prefer to reside, you can find some lone Fazul in springtime. They come to eat the sweet berries that grow at the edge of the forest in that region.
Birds
There are some clusters of smaller birds like the yirks and the guu'ns, these two feed on insects, seeds and berries. They make their nests on the top of the Faii trees as well as caves and the lower part of some skyscrapers. Their reproduction rate is high for both species and neither of them migrate. The yirks being black and yellow, smaller in size males between 30–37 cm and females from 35–40 cm, producing high pitched mating calls and little yellowish eggs with brown spots. The guu'ns are bigger in size by at least 5–10 cm, their coats are varied from different tones of white and Grey to even brownish.
Birds of prey:
There is a small population of onix falcons, these hunt small rodents, reptiles and small birds. They are very recognizable due to their deep dark scales between their shoulders that reflect the light in a purple and pinkish hue. Strong wings and sharp claws make them stand at the top of the food chain. They pair for life and inhabit the top of the skyscrapers, mountains and tall trees. They are frequently seen in Jehaleda and are regarded with respect and awe, as they can be trained since birth to work with the zu'aan. The citizens respect them and use them to guard their vertical farming from rodents or opurtunistic birds.
On the north side there are some wandering Uyal, owl-like birds that feed of insects, rodents, reptiles and smaller birds. Mostly active at night, with a call that can be heard for nearly 30m. The Randgriok Cloud Forest provides a very ample hunting ground for them and a good environment for camouflage. As their feathers are various shades of brown which reflect the light in a greenish hue.
