Geography

Den'sule Brown Beach is a long, thin stretch of brownish sand that runs along the eastern coastline of the continent. At high tide, the majority of the beach is covered in water. There is little plant life on land, but there are vibrant coral reefs offshore. The southern end of the beach is the coldest, and sometimes the water in this section of the beach can freeze over. It is in this southern section of barren beach, where the local Chraflye kin'toni tribe discovered the Artos caverns from underground. They eventually blocked off their underground entrance and found the tunnel that lead to the surface.

This tunnel surfaces far from the water's edge where the ocean may have flooded the caverns. Sometimes during storms, the Chraflye would need to block the entrance to this tunnel to make sure the caverns were not flooded, drowning the clan in the process. Several kilometres north of the Artos entrance, are the remains of an ancient religious temple. The local Chraflye kin'toni believe that this temple was built by the same civilisation that also constructed the Artos Caverns. They made this connection due to the diamond implanted in the centre of the temple and the diamond shape of the caverns. The light provided by this diamond often attracts a lot of sea life during the nighttime.

When the Chraflye are out of zu'aan blood they often have to go fishing at night. The temple mostly submerges during high tide, and the diamond makes it a perfect fishing ground. However, the diamond may attract potential food at high tide, but it also attracts predators. These predators have been known to attack the Chraflye kin'toni as they are not very physically strong. Out to sea from the temple, is the largest reef along Den'sule. The Great Diamond Reef stretches for several kilometres north and south, as well as out to sea. The reef is mostly located in shallow water, where only smaller predators can enter during low tide.

This reef, as well as the other 2 that run along the shores of Den'sule contain various sorts of coral. These coral forests are full of different colours, curious sea creatures, and interesting minerals. The Chraflye have often had to go fishing at night when zu'aan blood was in short supply. These reefs provide vast quantities of different seafood that are mostly easily obtainable. During their fishing journeys they discovered several Mantra Orbs. Mantra Orbs are what the local Chraflye kin'toni discovered in the reefs off the coast of Den'sule. They are perfectly round balls of glowing light that often grow inside the decayed bodies of predators.

The orbs are basically pearls that generated inside the stomachs of small predators who fed on a certain species of shellfish. Once these predators died, the Mantra orbs would be free and would be pushed around gently by the currents. Since the Chraflye fished only at night, they could easily locate these glowing orbs. They use them to light up the Artos Caverns so that they can see better.

Plants

Den'sule Brown Beach itself is not particularly full of plants. Most of the plant life at Den'sule is located out to sea, especially in the reefs. Whilst the beach may be brown, out to sea the coral forests are all different colours and are home to many forms of unique plants.

Euchiles

The Euchiles is a unique rose plant, native to Den'sule Brown Beach. This is the only plant that grows naturally on land in this region. The euchiles plants are small and slender, and their flowers grow white. The plants stem is light green, and generally grows many small leaves to absorb sunlight. The flowers unfold from their cases during the early hours of the morning when the sun is rising. The flowers eventually shut at about midday. These flowers can go for weeks without water, but are unable to be sustained by salt water. This means all of the Euchiles flower plants grow outside of the high tide line on the shore, and some of them can be killed off in storms or surges. The local Chraflye kin'toni cannot eat the flowers, and merely use them for decorating their religious areas throughout the Artos caverns.

Yutou

Yutou are large, purple plants that can grow up to 5 metres in diameter. They can only be found in the 3 reefs that run alongside Den'sule Brown Beach. The yutou are hard, and they grow long branches out of a central core, that is coloured a deeper shade of purple. The cores can grow up to 2 metres in height, and can sometimes breach the surface at low tide. Yutou provide a safe haven for many ocean creatures, as they can hide within their wide, sprawling branches. The yutou mostly shape the reefs into the shapes that they are, all the other plants grow beneath and around the larger yutou.

The yutou can not be eaten by fish, or kin'toni but often the local Chraflye use their branches to make floating rafts to fish on, or use them to block the tunnel to the entrance of the Artos Caverns during storms.

Vitalia

Vitalia are long tendril-like ocean plants that grow off of rocks and coral found in the reefs of the coast of Den'sule Brown Beach. Vitalia are predatory plants that feed on meat. They allow their long tendrils to float around in the current until a fish or other small creature moves through them. The tendrils then tighten around its prey and the fish is slowly pulled into the mouth section of the plant. The plant does not have an actual mouth, but a coarse area on its body that will slowly absorb the captured prey while it is stuck in the iron grip of the tendrils.

It can take up to 3 days for a vitalia plant to fully digest its prey. A vitalia plant that is eating can be seen by the change in its colour. The plants are usually green and blue when awaiting prey, and change to black when they are eating to warn off any potential creatures looking to feed. Vitalia plants have been known to latch onto feet and hands of kin'toni, as the tendrils mistake them for small fish passing through.

Animals

The large majority of Den'sule's animal life is found in the ocean, and more specifically, the large reefs. Most of these animals would be unable to survive in any other location, as these reefs provide food and protection that other locations do not. The abandoned temple north of the Artos Caverns is famous for attracting many different kinds of creatures during night-time high tides, including dangerous predators.

Argani

Argani are a species of shellfish native and unique to Den'sule Brown Beach. Argani have long and somewhat thin bodies, coated with a bulbous black shell. These shellfish are only found in the reefs that run along the coast of Den'sule. They feed on moss that grows on the coral and can also eat coral parasites. Their feedings habits allow them to co-exist with most of the coral species exceptionally well. Each Argani can live up 3 years, during this time they grow constantly. The largest ones ever recovered by the local Chraflye kin'toni measure in at 30 centimetres.

Sometimes other reef creatures consume the argani for food. Inside the stomach of whichever creature consumes them they can sometimes form into matra orbs. These orbs can either be excreted out by the creature (Painfully) or in some cases cause the creature to die by damaging its digestive system. Once the host is dead the glowing orbs are released into the sea. These orbs are a natural source of light and at night they have a similar effect on the local sea life as the diamond located in the abandoned temple.

Toatari

Toatari are a species of fish native to Den'sule Brown Beach. They are medium-size fish that have the ability to put on incredible bursts of speed when threatened. Toatari are silver in colour and feed mostly on shellfish that can be found throughout the Den'sule reefs. The males can be identified by their black tails and are generally larger than the females. The toatari are a very common food source for the local Chraflye kin'toni. The Chraflye are not great warriors and often have to rely on animal blood to sustain them, and the toatari contain quite a lot of blood.

The Chraflye have perfected the fishing method needed to catch these agile fish and are able to catch many on a nightly basis by luring them in with shellfish strapped with glowing mantra orbs to light up the food.

Koldane

Koldane are the apex predators of the Brown Beach ecosystem. They are not massive fish, but they make up for their lack of size with a deadly combination of speed and stealth. Koldane are deep water fish and mostly dwell outside of Den'sule waters during the day. Here they rest down in the depths of the ocean, undisturbed. During the night-time, when the water is high enough, the koldane swim into the Den'sule waters to hunt their prey. Koldane are jet black and have two dorsal fins, both of which are lined with spikes. Even their eyes are completely black and give them brilliant night vision to help them hunt.

Koldane generally stalk their prey for a few minutes before going into the kill. They do this to make sure no other predators are in the area, including other koldane that may be larger. Koldane are known to wait in ambush near the abandoned temple for unwary prey to swim past to reach the light given off by the diamond. The local Chraflye kin'toni have lost a few members to larger Kkoldane that were mostly likely starving. The Chraflye have no idea what how big the koldane can get due to their sighting being extremely rare.
