Geography
The Rynper Jade Valley is a medium sized region South of the Risold Dark Grove and East of the Tayk Springs. The region is a valley created by two small mountain ranges to the North East and the South West. There is a river that starts from the base of the North East mountains and moves south to the west most edge of the South West mountain range. Part of the river branches off around a quarter of the way to the other mountain range and moves to the east. At the end of the branch is a small waterfall that feeds into a large lake. The Urayachay built their village hidden in the region.
Depending on the home’s location, some were built into the side of a large hill, or the mountains, others were made to look like they were part of the surrounding rock formation. Others were covered with dense foliage and branches to look like a downed tree or a large bush was there. They were all moderately close to one another, with enough distance between that if one were to be discovered the others would not be in any immediate danger. At first the disguises were not very well constructed, but by the time of their change, the Urayachay had nearly perfected the art of camouflaging their buildings that unless right upon it and looking for it, it was near impossible to spot.
Added to all the homes was a small area where sunlight would shine through, letting the Urayachay know that is was still day time. When darkness or moonlight, depending on the season, replaced the sunlight, they would know it was safe and time for them to leave their homes. They were very connected to the region and nature in general, so they believed it was their job to take care of it and preserve it. They had farm-land close to the base of the South West mountain range, a way a ways from the village so that if the more easily found farm-land was discovered, there would be time before anyone reached an area where they would be an immediate threat.
The Urayachay believed that their strong connection allowed them to remain safe and protected from others, as well as gave them good fortune and prosperous lives- especially in their harvests. They kept very good care of the soil which allowed for larger and better crops. After turning into kin’toni, they continued and simply used the crops as a trading good. Their nature tending extended to the rest of the region, obviously. They were extremely dedicated- so much so that if any battling clans managed to make their way into the region and damage it, they would work as long as needed to restore the area.
They would clean the area not wanting spoils from the battle to ruin the soil and would work at tending to the various damaged or destroyed plants. They would leisurely take nature walks across the valley, so many and so often that they were able to memorize what each area looked like. Using this information they would work as a clan until it was restored so much so that it was impossible to tell there was a battle there, and almost impossible to tell the had been any change to the area. They also used this to tell if there were any enemies approaching them or were at some point in the region.
The clan’s leaders would have various meeting in the region, settling trade routes and partnerships, though they had specially built buildings in each of the corners of the region. The various trade routes through the region were always placed as far from the Urayachay’s daily life as much as possible to keep their village safe.
Plants
The Urayachay’s ideals that they are responsible for taking care of the region has had a strong effect on the plants that live in the area. Under their care, the flowers on various plants bloom larger each season, and their crop harvest would be more bountifully time. The region’s plants vary from ground cover vining types, to a handful of trees that make up the region’s forest, to small individual flowering plants. One such single flowering plant that thrived under the Urayachay care is the qaryon. The qaryon plant grows in small bunches and often has a single stem containing about 3 flowers.
The plant used to originally only bloom with small flowers, each only about as thick as a zu’aan’s thumb. Over the years under their care though, each of the qaryon flowers now bloom at about the size of a zu’aan’s hand. Their flowers are heart shaped, some sharper edged and more like an arrowhead, and are made up of 2 crescent shaped petals. There are two main colors the flowers are seen in- an extremely dark wine color that borders on being completely black, and a pale purple. The black variation of the plants usually grows near the base of the mountains where various nutrients from the rocks have built up to give the plant the black color.
The pale purple is scattered throughout the rest of the region and is more common. Sometimes the two crossbreed in an area that borders the divide between the two resulting in a swirling pattern emerging in the petals. Zu’aan outside the region view the swirling patterned flowers as romantic and symbolizing two people coming together- they will often pay other traders to specifically obtain fresh or dry cuttings of the flower for a romantic gift. One of the fruits that the Urayachay would cultivate in the region is the Malmol. The Malmol tree produces dragon fruit like fruits that are extremely bright skinned.
It grows on a mid-sized cactus like shrub; their leaves are stiff and filled with a watery flesh that is used for natural topical remedies to various ailments. The leaves are often trained to grow vertically so that the fruit stays off the ground as the weight of the fruit usually forces the leaves to grown downward. The fruits, under the Urayachay care have grown as well, nearly doubling from their original palm-sized growth. The inside of the fruit is a firm pale lime colored flesh that holds a large number of free-floating seeds and contains a large amount of nutrients.
The outside skin if left to harden and in a majorly intact state are perfect as a pot for plants inside their homes. After turning into kin’toni the Urayachay do not need to eat the malmol fruit but continue to harvest them for the intent of using them for trade. The ingmol tree makes up most of the forest in the region. It has a large amount of foliage making them perfect for the region to hide the Urayachay’s homes. There are branches across the entirety of the tree trunk giving the trees an overgrown shrub appearance. They can grow to be 50 feet tall, branches stemming out about 20 feet left to right.
They have a mix of deep green oak tree like leaves and pine like needles that coat the branches.
Animals
The most common animal seen in the Rynper region is the lamil. The lamil is a tiny hedgehog like creature that makes its dens in the iIngmol tree roots. This is to protect them from having their homes easily dug up while they are hiding, as the tree’s roots are strong and would act as a natural reinforcement to the den walls. The Lamil love the Urayachay as whenever they cross each other’s paths, the Urayachay will give the Lamil some extra food as a sign of mutual respect to them as creatures of the region. The Lamil are omnivores, though they prefer to lean toward the herbivore side as its easier for them.
They will eat various grub like bugs they can find in the soil by their homes, along with the leaves of whatever plants they can reach. The lamil are moderately solo creatures, staying with their parent only until they are old enough to gather the skills needed to live on their own before they leave, but staying together when they find a mate. They have small quills, but will only release them when they feel threatened- meaning a zu’aan or kin’toni could pick one up without risk of being injured. The Lamil’s main predator is a Valaith similar creature called a vyil.
It has a similar appearance to a maned wolf and uses their extremely long legs to move quickly once they spot a Lamil. Lamil’s can move fairly quick and rarely travel far from their den, so the Vyil have to be extremely quick to get to it before it reaches the safety of its home. They sleep wherever there is room, though they prefer the ground as their long limbs have dragged them out of trees while sleeping in the past. Their limbs are double the length of a valaith, which often places their head at chest height with the Urayachay. The Vyil though has little interest in the Urayachay, and will usually ignore their presence when they cross paths.
The vyil also will attempt to catch any Firanyon they happen across. The firanyon is a song bird type creature who makes its nests in the trees. They rarely land on the ground, so they adapted to have feathers a similar green to the Ingmol trees. They are a midsized bird, weighing about 5 pounds averagely, though their feathers make them look almost triple their actual size. They often whistle tunes back and forth, each having its own meaning- though the most common is a greeting that they start up every morning to the nearby nests. When the Firanyon are young, after just learning to fly, its not uncommon for them to ‘play’ by diving toward the ground above a vyil’s head taunting it.
Due to this, its not uncommon for at least one to become a casualty from their game, getting too close and ‘playing’ too long- enough for the vyil to get proper timing and momentum to snatch a firanyon out of the air. After the first casualty of the season, the younger firanyon usually abandon the game as they learned the risks.
