Historical Overview

Eons ago, when the mother land was still intact, and different species would roam not only the earth above, but also the the waters below, there were tons of volcanoes slowly building up and releasing pent up rage below the seabeds. Because of this, two continental plates pull apart away from each other and causes the lava from below to erupt and form a ridge. This accumulates and eventually rises up to the surface of the ocean to create a new island, which is now called the Boghem Volcanic Island.

An island with also its own active volcano atop of it, the volcano surrounded by a lush dense green forest with a beach/coastal area at the perimeter of the island. No one really knew when the island came to be as it was uninhabited for so long. Getting to the island proved to be a challenge so not many explorers dared to venture out and tread the dangerous waters just to get to the island. It remained that way for quite a while until one explorer braved to get to the island.

The fact that the island was mysterious and remained unknown became the explorer's driving force to be the first one to uncover the mysteries and possible wonders the volcanic island holds. With great meticulous planning and enough funding, the explorer was able to create a plan in order to get to the island and back to his homeland. For almost a month, he ventured the waters, facing many trials that nature has thrown his way. The moment he reached the dreaded area that most explorers before him could not cross, his hope and faith had already dwindled.

He contemplated for a while but eventually mustered up the resolve to push through. Finally, after years of meticulous planning and a month at sea, he was the very first explorer to reach the island. And what he saw there, took his breath away. As it says in the history books, he found a beautiful beach surrounding the island's perimeter; and as he went further in, a forest thriving with different wondrous flora and fauna that he never knew existed. Lastly, in the middle of all that, a majestic volcano with a perfectly round cone.

The maroon red from the top, slowly gradating into a deep green at the base of the volcano. He stayed there for months, documenting his findings and heading home as soon as he was done. Years later, his findings were published and eventually, a group of people would decide to live there. They rode a ship that would take them there, not much were aboard but they were plenty enough. However, they did not know that one among them was already infected with the kin'toni virus and upon landing at the island, the outbreak spread like wildfire.

No one knew yet, for there were no major symptoms that showed, nor were there any major changes that happened within them. Slowly, all of them started to change and turn into the species called the kin'toni, and because of this, they have all decided to live and inhabit the volcano island as they can no longer return to the mainland .

Geography

Thought once before to an unknown island on uncharted seas, the Boghem Volcanic Island is one magnificent island. Every detail, every bit of information talks about it being one of the most beautiful island in the world. The uniqueness of each characteristic that makes up this island is astounding and just simply wonderful. This seems like an ideal island to live in, however, it is not without its different negative aspects. There may be wondrous things in this island, but to it, are also the not-so wondrous things that this land has to give.

The green jungle is home to many different kinds of flora and fauna, even rare kinds of species can be found here because of the ideal living conditions for animals and plants alike. To get to the island is a challenge, especially if one is coming from the east and northern sides. With a trench just right beneath the ocean floor that stretches from the north to the east point of the island, it is considered to be a place where many have met their end. The climate and weather of the island and around it is also very spontaneous and random as not many can tell the weather before it happens.

When it rains, it pours, meaning that there are only ever strong rains in that area and when it becomes a storm, that is when it is most dangerous at sea. The beach perimeter of the island has black sand, attributing to the volcano’s ash that littered the beaches. The fine black sand may seem off-putting to some, but it is one of the more prized resources of the Boghem Volcanic island. Within the sand are some particles of different minerals that come from within the volcano.

There has not been much instances of the volcano erupting, but when it does, the lava flow would burn bright red hot across the forest, until it reaches the water of the seas just right after the beach. The lava would cool down upon meeting the water and it would slowly sink to the bottom of the seafloor. The cooled material, despite its unpleasing appearance, is actually a valuable kind of mineral, used for some of the things that are made by the kin'toni clan inhabiting this volcanic island.

Upon the first exploration of the island, it was not seen, but there is a cave on one side of the volcano that leads to the inside of the volcano. It shows only a hollow cave but it is not that spacious. A few people have tried to dig through the walls of the cave but stop halfway for fear that they might open a hole that leads straight to the hollow opening at the center of the volcano where magma rushes out during an eruption. The forest has multiple fruits and vegetations that help provide food for not only the inhabiting kin'toni, but also the many different wildlife living there.

Plants

There is much plantlife to be seen in this volcanic island, not only within the land itself, but there are also some which can be seen in the waters below. The soil within the forest is brimming with life, evident from the lush green trees and different plants and shrubs which can be seen upon first glance of the island. Most of the trees are plain and simple ikrida trees that grow as high as a 3-storey building. What sets this tree aside from the others is that the meat and juice of its ikrida fruit is sweeter and more filling than what we are used to.

The ikrida water is used as a beverage for the people living here, but used mostly as a sweetener for the different food they consume. The leaves of the trees are more commonly used to catch rainwater, which is used as drinking water after boiling it for some time. The trunks however, are wide and known to create a special sap on the outside of the trunks that makes it resistant to catching fire caused by the lava. Making it possible for the inhabiting kin'toni to create homes out of these trunks and other materials like the cooled down mineral made from lava and water, and the unique sand of that island.

There are also different tropical vegetation within the forest, just like green root crops called the noel, the spiral ferns called swrl, and a mathri tree variant that produces small bunches of mathri fruit. The mathri trees produce wide and durable leaves, which can be weaved or sewn together, making clothes and other coverings for the people living there. Aside from that, there are also different toxic plants and carnivorous plants within the forest. One of these toxic plants are called the xrum, which are small mushroom like plants that would release toxic spores when touched or press on the head of the plant.

This plant however, when harvested and the head of the plant is carefully removed, the spores can be used either as a poison, or treatment to wounds if prepared in the right way. Aside from that, a well known carnivorous plant here is a pitcher plant-like plant that produces a very distinct odor, described as sickeningly sweet. The scent attracts small bugs and animals, leading them to fall into a thick, sticky acid that would paralyze them and slowly melt the unsuspecting prey. This acid is actually used by the inhabiting kin'toni in their battles and warfare.

The acid is strong enough to severely harm the opponent, but is not potent enough to kill an enemy. Below the wondrous blue of the seas, there are also plantlife which can be deemed useful to the people of Boghem Volcanic Island. Useful not only in feeding the people, but also in craft making as well. The kelp in these waters are tough and can be stretched to a certain extent. Torn or shredded vertically will produce strands and once weaved together, will be able to produce a rope-like material that is useful for many things.

Another one to take note about is an underwater grape like plant that is used in cooking, usually paired with raw fish or fresh vegetables, giving a distinct burst of subtle salt water that flavours the dish well. It is light green in colour and is usually found in small clusters or bunches. The kelp is not that hard to find as it is usually growing in groups under the sea. The undersea grapes are also grown in groups or clusters, but are not as abundant as the kelps, making this plant a little hard to find if one does not know where to look.

Animals

Because of this area being an island, many expect for there to be many different kinds of wild creatures and animals within the forest and beaches of this island. However, that is not the case as there are barely any wildlife on the surface of the island, save for a few underground critters. Reason for this is because of the lava from the volcano when it erupts. With the glowing red heat from the lava, there are no land animals that would survive this. As time passed on, only a few have adapted to this island as they were, and still are, living underground, safe from being burned alive by the lava.

These underground animals are called the osan and the owk, the former being a kind of underground animal that resembles the appearance of a fox, having faded brown fur to white thin fur; while the latter is a type of rodent animal that can grow up to 7 inches in size and is usually found with little to no fur at all. They burrow and create their homes underground, creating multiple tunnels and eventually settling in one hollowed out area beneath the ground. They usually end up covering the very first hole in the ground by using their hind feet to push back dirt and sand into the hole, filling it up so as to not have any lava go down into their burrows.

Though both these animals burrow underground near the edge of the beach where the water lies, they are known to not be good swimmers as there are known cases of some of these animals drowning when accidentally washed into the water during high tide. The meat of the osan is normally used as food instead of the owk, because it is bigger and meatier than the other, making it more filling and better for eating. The innards of the osan are usually made into bait food whenever the inhabiting kin'toni would go out into sea and decide to catch some fish.

However, because both these animals are not that easy to find and catch, and are not that abundant in this island, the osan are not caught and hunted on a regular basis. In the sea however, is a different story. Within the sea lies an abundance of wildlife, mostly large predators that bring fear to the people of the island. Because of the trench below the ocean just a few meters from the coast, what inhabits there are large predators which are not all known or discovered yet. One predator known is a shark like species that grows as big as 10 meters known as a lodon.

It is known that this species has a wide and strong jaw, and that its biting force is about a ton of force. The lodon is also a known carnivore, so its diet mostly consists of the different species of fish and other underwater animals, as well as unsuspecting victims from the land above. Only one has been caught ever since its discovery, as it has been brought up by a high tide into the beach. Since it has been out of water for over the course of a few days, it was found dead by the people of the island. The tough skin was used as armor, as it was as tough as metal, by the military forces of this clan.
