History

Historical Overview

Ack-ormaw has been a highly inhabited region ever since the first zu'aan colonizers arrived from the east. An extremely large region, it has been home to various villages, cities, and zu'aan settlements throughout the ages. Unfortunately, due to it's easy-to-access status, this only made it the more easy for the kin'toni to absolutely ravage it during the Awakening Age, and most of these places now remain only as arrays of desert, wrecked buildings with no purpose or life. A very fertile and plain region, filled with streams and easy-to-walk soil, Ack-ormaw is the perfect place to practice agriculture. This made it a very attractive destination for the early zu'aan, who were surrounded by swamps, mountains, forests and other dangerous or treacherous locations.

Ack-ormaw quickly came to be colonized and a plethora of civilizations and regional boundaries were formed through the years. Ack-ormaw would see its fair share of internal and external disputes through the ages, as well as the steady advance of culture and civilization. Despite its easy and attractive nature, however, as the zu'aan grew and so did their technology and capacity, the need for simple terrains to settle became little, as they had the ability to build and thrive wherever they pleased. Therefore, due to its use as agricultural land, Ack-ormaw remained a somewhat rural settlement mainly used as a supplier to the surrounding nations. This does not mean it was uncivilized or lacking in power - it simply did not require large cities or the deeper marks of industrialism.

Providing and studying crops was enough. When the Awakening Age came, the zu'aan of Ack-ormaw were wildly unprepared, as were their peers from other nations. Their cities quickly fell, and their population quickly dwindled, and their settlements were quickly overrun with the merciless and blood-thirsty kin'toni. In such a large nation, however, some remained, and though most of them fell some managed to survive long enough to form small tribes and to form some kind of resistance. They did not need to do so for very long. Ack-ormaw is situated in an exemplary region of Taerel, the so-called Bruzrcuvyr Shield, which became known after the Awakening as harboring a large concentration of surviving zu'aan societies.

Thus the kin'toni and the zu'aan waged a long and painful war, but at the end, through a series of miracles and joined efforts, the zu'aan temporarily won. There are, of course, still regions of Ack-ormaw occupied by roaming kin'toni. The conflicts are never over, and neither are the embers of the Awakening. The central control of Ack-ormaw, however, is attributed to the zu'aan, and as of the Twilight Age they have managed to restore some of their former glory in a city. Though they have largely lost, and their conflict is still considered to be on-going, the local kin'toni seem to be unbothered by the zu'aan presence. One can only speculate as the reason for this uncaring-ness.

Some suspect it has something to do with the coming chill, as the Twilight Age beckons.

Geography

Ack-ormaw Hilly Plains is a vast plain in the central part of the mainland, an integral part of Bruzrcuvyr Shield. It extends from the western shore of the Aldsayryn Dirty Lake to Ananaroth Flooded Grassland, in the north it is bounded by Aesse Ancient Forest along which it passes, and on the south side, it borders on Aldgar Vibrant Swamplands. This area is quite remote, to the extent of the difficulty of the passage to these Hilly Plains, but it cannot be said that it is completely isolated from the outside world. In the northwest, a small path leads to the plains through Ananaroth Flooded Grassland; along which zu’aan periodically walk to avoid encounters with kin’toni. The total length of the plain from north to south is about 900 km and 4300 km from west to east.

The hilly plain consists of uplands with heights of 200-300 m above sea level and lowlands along which small rivers flow, more like streams. The average height of the plain is 171 m, and the highest - 479 m - Ka'Rai Upland. According to the features of orographic features within the Ack-ormaw Hilly Plains, three bands are clearly distinguished: central, northern and southern. A strip of alternating large uplands and lowlands passes through the central part of the plain. To the north of this strip, low plains predominate, on the surface of which smaller hills are scattered in garlands and singly. The southern part of the Ack-ormaw Hilly Plains is occupied by lowlands separated by low elevations, due to which evaporation from the Aldgar Vibrant Swamplands is almost not spread by wind to the plains and further to the Aesse Ancient Forest.

Almost all large uplands and lowlands of the hilly plains are of tectonic origin. All plains are dotted with underground burrow systems, so almost all over the territory you can find small depressions in the ground, many of which have long been overgrown with grass and are more like a trap for the inattentive than a simple hole. The features of its relief, geographical position in temperate and high latitudes, as well as neighboring territories, influence the climate of the plain. The smoothed relief of the plain contributes to the free transfer of air masses. Ack-ormaw Hilly Plains are characterized by western transport of air masses. In warm seasons, the air brings coolness and precipitation, and in cold weather, it brings warmth.

During the cold season comes from 8 to 12 cyclones. When they move to the east or northeast, there is a sharp change in air masses, contributing to either warming or cooling. With the arrival of southwestern cyclones, the warm air of subtropical latitudes invades the south of the plain, but together with it, evaporation from the swamps begins to seep. The plains has a developed river network, the density and regime of which change following climatic conditions from north to south. In the same direction, the degree of swampiness of the territory, as well as the depth of occurrence and the quality of groundwater, change. Most of the rivers of the Ack-ormaw Hilly Plains have two main directions - northern and southern.

The main watershed between the rivers of the northern and southern slopes is extended from the southwest to the northeast. Groundwater is distributed throughout the plains. With depth, the chemical composition and temperature of groundwater change. Fresh waters have a depth of no more than 250 m, and their mineralization increases with depth.

Plants

The hilly plain is home to countless plants, most of which are able to survive extreme temperature fluctuations, varying amounts of rainfall, and a rather specific location. There are almost no trees on the plains, and those rare species that are able to survive in such conditions most often grow on the slopes of the hills. Most terrestrial plants get water from the soil, thanks to which they have a developed root system and wide leaves. In the leaves, part of the water turns into steam, which enters the air. If the plant does not have enough water, it first withers and then dries up. If it does not receive water, then it dies, but in the plains, such a problem occurs rarely, if where you can find dried plants, then on the tops of the hills.

In the lowlands, especially in the southern part of the hilly plains, there is a clear excess of water. Plants cope with this problem in a rather peculiar way, they drive water through their bodies, and spray all the excess into the air, which is why fog often appears in the plains, the density of which can vary depending on the season. In the hilly plains, there is only one type of tree - ruag. They grow on hillsides mainly in places where strong winds do not reach. It has a rather soft bark and dense foliage, however, when you touch the tree trunk, hook-shaped needles come out of the bark, which are then quite difficult to pull out of the body, and the tree sap does not allow blood to clot.

Because of this, local animals prefer to avoid these trees. Grasses and shrubs are much smaller than trees and are easier to survive sudden changes in weather and temperature, and they are much less disturbed by strong winds. Long straight leaves growing from the ground distinguish herbs. The older the plant, the longer the leaves. When animals eat the ends of the leaves, new ones grow from the base. This means that herbivores do not pose a real threat to the grass. An'ra grass is one of the most common types of vegetation in these plains. It is low, quickly covers bare ground and accumulates a lot of water, making it one of the main sources of food for local animals and insects. However, at night, the leaves of this herb harden and become quite sharp.

The yaas and qui'ta shrubs are also widespread throughout the plains, and in addition to the large leaves, which were previously actively used in medicine; edible berries grow on these shrubs. Also on the tops of the hills, you can find poisonous saltan flowers, which have a rather pleasant strong aroma, which, along with pollen, spreads across the plains. For the same reason, during the warm season, almost all peaks turn yellow due to the blooming flowers. In addition, the bottom of most of the rivers flowing through the territory of the hilly plains is covered with densely growing ivra algae, which have a surprisingly fast growth and are unpretentious. These algae are generally distributed throughout the world, found in most bodies of water.

Due to the lack of regulation of their growth, they grow over time, slowly turning water bodies into a swamp. In the northern part of the plains, you can also find such cereal plants as shar's, black lad and kra'h.

Animals

In addition to plants, a considerable number of animals also live in the Ack-ormaw Hilly Plains; many of them have lived in these parts for centuries, while others have moved here from nearby territories. Mostly herbivorous animals live here, for them there are all conditions on the plains. However, recently, predators have also begun to move here from the Aesse Ancient Forest.

Zavia

Zavia - This type of mammalian inhabits the plains. The rolling plains are home to these animals. They are quite small, individuals larger than 50 cm are almost never found in nature. The whole body is covered with thick hair. The males are reddish-brown, while the females are dark grey. Zavia have four paws, the hind legs are much more massive and powerful than the front ones, but the front ones at the same time have much tougher hair and claws. The design of the front paws allows them to easily break through tens of meters of underground tunnels in which they live in whole flocks. They have flattened snouts and large, rounded ears that they can hold tightly against their bodies when burrowing.

Their tails are very small and almost invisible. They move with jumping movements, which allows them to instantly pick up speed up to 80 km / h. Zavia burrows are quite often attacked by predators, and they themselves often become the target of hunting, but this does not prevent them from actively increasing their population.

Kovalt

Kovalt - A predatory mammal that moved to the plains from the Aesse Ancient Forest, because here they are not threatened by anyone except zu’aan and kin’toni. Medium in size and agile. The bodies are covered with not very dense black hair with gray stripes. Quadrupeds move on all four legs. They have an elongated muzzle and a long tail, at the end of which there is a woolen tassel. They do not build their own dwellings, preferring to occupy vacant lairs more. By themselves, these creatures are rather cowardly, so zu’aan and kin’toni are rarely attacked.

Lata

Lata is a bird of prey. The rolling plains are their home. The length of their bodies is from 80 to 90 cm, and the wingspan reaches 1.5 m, they have a brown color, which becomes more bronze in cold weather. They have a bright orange pointed beak, silver stripes on the wings and a short black tail. Lata lives on the branches of the ruaga, thanks to a light, hollow skeleton and a special plumage structure; they weigh almost nothing, which helps them not to fall into the needles on the tree bark. Because of the long sharp claws on the paws, the bird is not able to walk on the ground. It hunts mainly for zavia, rakwas eggs, and in especially hungry times, it can include shiras in its diet.

Rakwas

Rakwas - large reptile. Many years ago, this species was brought to the hilly plains from the Aleves Tropical Desert and, thanks to its good adaptability, was able to survive in a rather unfamiliar environment. The color ranges from pale green to hazy blue. Rakwas has a calm character and will not attack, if there is no danger to him or the nest. However, despite his peacefulness, this reptile is extremely poisonous and one of his bites is enough to paralyze the aggressor, and if saliva already gets into the blood, then within a couple minutes, the poison disperses through the body and suffocation occurs. Rakwas lives on the banks of water bodies and often hides in vegetation in the water. Feeds mainly on plants and insects.

Shiras

Shiras - This is a ubiquitous inhabitant of the rivers and lakes of the plains. Small, has a silvery color,

which becomes lighter in cold weather, almost white. It feeds on ivra, but lives in the upper layers of water bodies and often lives side by side with Rakwas.
