Jarninnv City Zu'Aan
History
The Jarninnv city zu'aan were a zu’aan clan, based in the vast Sveiaf region and founded by a former soldier and mercenary named Wotylkki Katagamiama. He was recruited into the zu'aan army at a very young age after repelling a bandit attack on their camps. His military career would take him across the world in many battles and adventures where he made many lifelong friends and contacts who would join him in his mercenary ventures later on in life. He gained a reputation as a brave and capable fighter, if a little too reckless to serve in the higher ranks.
It was this combination along with his lower status and education that prevented him from going further in his career. He saw far less-capable zu'aan being handed command in his place and slowly grew disillusioned, before eventually leaving voluntarily. He came out of the army with no fortune, but the worse for it- suffering many wounds and aches that would plague him for the rest of his life. He resolved to never fight again unless it was worth his while. He devised a method to make wealth out of tragedy by selling his military services to the highest bidder.
He would find many takers for his services in the conflict ridden Sveiaf Calcareous Grassland.. His clientele ranged from the strongest clans who wanted secrecy and no indication of their involvement to more newly formed clans- looking to have their armies led by experienced fighting men. They made their reputation as one of the most reliable and efficient mercenary groups by successfully completing many contracts on behalf of the most reputable clients. He along with his band were responsible for most of the bloodshed and conflicts that went on in the Sveiaf region.
As they grew richer and stronger, Wotylkki's own ideas would venture towards creating his own clan. He decided that this method was the only way to create a lasting legacy in the world. He would use the riches accumulated from his mercenary career to invest in the building of a settlement in the very corner of the Sveiaf grasslands. He brought in the greatest architects and builders of his time and commenced the building of this ideal city. The news about his new venture would spread like wildfire and would attract many new zu'aan who flocked to him, offering their services in return for a chance to part of his clan.
He would accept all such offers, demanding only their total allegiance to him and the clan. The city would grow at an unprecedented rate after the new influx of zu'aan. Agriculture would begin to take root outside its walls and the city would be linked to the land and water routes through the Ardnys river. It would become the new center of trade and commerce in the region, protected by walls and one of the most effective mercenary force known to the zu'aan. Wotylkki would name the city Jarninnv City and its residents would become known as the Jarninnv City zu'aan.
Psychology
The Jarninnv city zu'aan were known for many of their fighting traditions. This was a result of the clan being composed primarily of Wotylkki Katagamiama's fellow partners from his time as a soldier and mercenary. The Jarninnv's psychology was geared towards fighting and conflict. This was a common part of their interaction with others even from among their own clan. They channeled this energy to their training and soldiering during their youth which in turn produced very motivated and fearless soldiers who were willing to carry out all kind of commands without a second thought.
They had very aggressive natures that made them perfect in the role of soldiers. They were known for their strong physical and mental reaction to provocation. This was evident when strangers or unknown armies trespassed into their lands or when they perceived an insult towards their clan, their culture or one of their own. Having all received some kind of military instruction in the past, they all retained a level of military discipline and respect for their leaders. Their discipline made them last longer than most of the inexperienced zu'aan armies in the battlefield.
They did not surrender or flee when situations turned against them. Instead, they would stand their ground and buy their leaders some time to analyze and figure a way out of their quandary. The singular aspect of their lifelong training which was only geared towards combat and military tactics made them very perceptive and quick learners of anything in this field. They were known to implement and adopt many new tactics and weapons that they had only just been discovered. This constant willingness to experiment gave their clan an edge in terms of military organization and advancements.
Their constant exposure to risks and death in battle made them very aware of their mortality as zu'aan. Thus, they lived live to the fullest and were known to be some of biggest drinkers and loudest drunks in the entire continent. They loved having fun with their fellow clan members in their free time. They picked up drinking as soon as they matured and would become regular drinkers by early adulthood. Some believe that their drinking habit was a way to cope with the gruesome actions, the violence and the sights that they constantly had to encounter during their battles.
They had very deep loyalties towards their fellow clan members and looked out for each other's interest. This close ties were a result of the constant hardships and challenges they went through in the battlefields where they had to rely on the next zu'aan fighting alongside them for protection and motivation. The clan’s society was built on this trust and proximity among all of their clan members. It allowed them to function as a strong unit and helped them survive through tough times, in both civil life and the battlefield.
Funerals, marriages and other ceremonies would attract the attention of the entire clan who attended and support their fellow clan members in times of hardship or happiness.
Culture
The Jarninnv culture was known for its highly militaristic values and practices. The military was a regular and constant part of their life and every member of the Jarninnv was expected to serve for at least a decade. They were formally inducted into the clan's military once they came of age but their training started way before their induction. The clan had many open sand fields where the clan members would gather each morning and practice their martial arts and hone their combat skills.
Their culture practiced an ancient form of wrestling that had existed within their community for centuries. Physical and military skill was highly valued and people who excelled in these arts were naturally more respected within the community and could expect to rise to higher ranks. The compulsory military service was conducted in a rotational basis where each group served a month and were then rested for the next month while another group took their place. This prevented excessive battlefield stress and mental breakdowns while also allowing the clan members to lead a civil life away from their combat duties.
Most of the clan's other activities were also geared to support their military. This included their crafting and weapon making along with their construction activities. They were known for the high quality of their weapons and armor as well as the level of innovation that was involved in the creation of these tools. The Jarninnv clan's weapons and armor were among the best in their respective categories and constantly garnered high prices in the markets all over the continent.
They were also known for their combat engineering; they built many wooden bridges and roads to facilitate communication and the smooth movement of their armies. They were also experts at the construction of static defenses and used this skill to great effect during their heroic defense of Jarninnvv city. The clan had a very loving culture that was helped by the long periods they spent in each other's company. Communal gatherings and celebrations were a common part of their routine along with their weekly drinking rituals.
Alcoholism was acceptable and highly prevalent in the Jarninnv city zu'aan's culture. Their friendly attitudes were reserved only for people within their clan, and they were known to be quite intolerant towards outsiders from other clans and cultures. This was because of their constant warmongering. They wanted to dominate others and spread their cultures all over the continent. They had a very high opinion of themselves and considered their culture as the most advanced and productive in the entire zu'aan world.
Government
The Jarninnv city zu'aan clan's government was heavily influenced by a military leadership structure. This was because of their origins as members of Wotylkki's mercenary band before they eventually organized themselves into a clan. During these early days, they functioned under the strict leadership of their leader and followed a rigorous military discipline. Total obedience was required of every member and there was no room to question his leadership. Despite these tough impositions many of the members continued to stay on and serve because of the compensation they received through wages and the fair treatment that was meted out to them.
Wotylkki made it his personal business to look after the welfare of the members serving under him. He kept an open account of their contracts and profits along with their salaries and share of any loot that they came across. He never compromised on these responsibilities and allowed his mercenaries a lot of liberties so long as it did not affect the performance of their duties. The group had very inhumane methods of punishments that could sometimes result in death.
These methods included live crucifixions, floggings and drownings; they were meant to show the consequences of any disorderly conduct and was brutal by nature to dissuade their members from engaging in such activities. Wotylkki would continue to adopt all these measures when he established the Jarninnv city along with its own clan. They city was one of the most orderly establishments in the entire continent and only accepted members who could handle their strict list of requirements- necessary to become a member of the clan.
These requirements included a guarantee of physical fitness with a promise to join the clan's military service. The members also had to acknowledge and accept Wotylkki as the sole leader of the clan. The strict requirements ensured the clan's single-minded opinion in most affairs and allowed them to easily associate and cooperate with one another. However, their picky nature rubbed many of their neighbors the wrong way and they came to be known as a nothing more than a rag-tag bunch of mercenaries trying to run a camp of refugees.
The clan would surpass all these expectations and their city grew to become one of the most well-governed establishments in the region. They maintained one of the most authoritarian leaderships that surprisingly boasted one of the happiest populations in the region. They did not desire any of the democratic process and excessive freedoms which they saw as detrimental to their military culture. The leader did not have to use a police force or other means of coercion to enforce his orders as the clan was ready to accept his words and orders at all times.
Military titles were used in their government, with the clan leader being assigned the highest of them all. The leader had to be able to lead the army as well as be involved in the strategic planning phase with his generals, before all battles. The success of a leader was judged more on the basis of his achievements in military life than in civil life.

Religion
The Jarninnv city zu'aan worshipped their own unique gods who were associated with their warrior traditions. They believed that their gods were responsible for bringing them glory in combat and gifting their favored warriors with bravery. For them the act of bravery was not something that the zu'aan were in control of but was rather a gift bestowed by the gods. According to them, no zu'aan was in control of his own fate or actions in battle. They were all mere pawns who were acting out the wishes of their gods.
This tied into their belief that prayer and dedication to the gods was vital to achieve optimal performance in the battlefield. Neglecting one's worship duties was seen as a precursor to cowardice and mistakes in war. Their most distinguished warriors such as their founder Wotylkki Katagamiama were seen as the chosen of the gods who were personally possessed by their gods during battles. They worshipped clay busts of their gods as well as their ancestors by offering prayers and burnt sacrifices.
Their prayers involved a lot of rhythmic chanting and dances to welcome the gods into their settlement and their lives. Their most prominent gods were Troil and Echrod respectively. The former was seen as the silent and burly axe wielder who went berserk during battles and could carve a path through enemies. His idols showed him clad in one of the clan's richer leather and mail and chainmail jacket with long black locks of wild hair cascading down his shoulders. He was the god of those who fought in the frontline and valued strength over all other physical qualities.
The second god, Echrod was seen as a more lithe and agile figure who wielded a long bow and arrows with serrated edges. He was the god of archery who engaged superior numbers from a distance with ease. He was worshipped and revered by the archers and distance warriors of the clan. Both the gods had shrines dedicated to them all over the region and were popular tourist and religious destination. The clan were led in their worship and religious celebrations by prayer monks who were well versed in religion as well as in combat.
These monks were among the fiercest warriors in their clan and could be distinguished by the pitch-black face paints that they painted their eyes with. They also had tattoos made from intentional cuts that they wore with pride, and as a sign of their dedication to their gods. They were revered among the locals and occupied an important position in society. They were one of the first classes who Wotylkki courted to his side when he became the leader of his new clan. It gave legitimacy to his rule and also made the clan respect his position out of fear of angering their gods.
The Jarninnv city zu'aan had no moral code of conduct associated with their religion. They followed the laws that were prescribed by their rulers and their religion only required them to offer prayers and sacrifices and seek combat and the favor of the gods in the battlefield. This was among the chief reasons behind their inhumane methods and brutality.
