History

Tthe zu'aan from Danic city had capitalized on their land and made it into farming territory. They saw the opportunity to make their living from growing crops and tending to animals, and so that is what they did. The only problem with them doing this was that they had always gotten frustrated easily. There were times when something wouldn’t go their way and they would get frustrated so they would take their anger out on it. While this wasn’t something they wanted known about them, they quickly became known for it.

When it came to their land, they had given a piece of land to each family within the city, that way they could each make a living on it how they saw fit. This worked out for a while before the government started placing taxes on the land, and many landowners had to sell their land to richer farmers as they couldn’t afford to buy crops or animals for the land they had. These taxes continued to increase each year as the government realized how much they could be making in doing so. Quickly, Danic city became known for the way they would get frustrated and would tax their people for using the land that was given to them.

There was a vast diversity within the city since there were some that easily made their living from farming, and others that had to resort to living and working in the city itself to try and live. There were some zu'aan that weren’t all too good at farming, so they would find other things they were good at, and they made their living that way. There were some that went on to become blacksmiths, others became miners, and some worked in inns and taverns, feeding other zu'aan that came in. Their city grew and they were able to prosper well.

They were partners with many other cities that they knew well, and there was not a thing in the world they thought would ever stop them. Then the outbreak happened. Danic city was thrust into chaos as they weren't sure how they were going to handle the outbreak. The government was more concerned with keeping their livelihood alive over the well-being of their people and that caused many of the people to revolt against the government and tell them they were going to leave. The government didn’t want to lose any of their people as that would mean they would lose income, so they proposed ideas to keep the whole city, and everyone in it, safe.

They decided that they would put up fences and wire around the fields to keep any kin’toni out. As well, there was a curfew put into place. Any zu'aan that were out late had to be in their homes by a certain time to make sure they were caught and killed by any roaming kin’toni. If any zu'aan stayed out through the night they would be taken to a hospital to me monitored for a week to make sure they weren't turned into kin’toni themselves.

Psychology

Since the zu'aan from Danic city got frustrated so easily, it wasn’t hard for them to take their frustrations out on each other, or even on the animals they would tend to. They would consistently expect things to go their way, and as soon as it wouldn’t, they would get angry and would take their anger out on whatever made them angry. That was how they were, no matter what would make them angry. They would be nice as much as they could, working together with each other to have things work out for them, but as soon as one of them was frustrated with something, they would both explode with their anger.

Sometimes, when some of the zu'aan would fight, the fight would turn into one of them killing each other. The fight would escalate from frustration to them yelling, to the first punch being thrown, to one of them killing the other. This wasn’t something that was planned, as they didn’t want to kill each other, but their anger would easily get the better of them and many times if they weren't able to contain their anger, they would end up committing murder. Each of the zu'aan from Danic city would do what they could to keep their anger low.

They would try and do jobs that would keep their stress levels low, or they would look for ways to lower their anger when they would get frustrated. This would mean that they would go to meditate or even just take a walk so they could get their mind off of what was making them mad. Sometimes, there were some zu'aan that would ask others to come to where they were as their jobs were to help the zu'aan get their frustrations out without harming others. Since anger was how many of the zu'aan from Danic city would end their days, there were some that took their anger and made it into energy for themselves.

They would go to a gym that was designated for getting their anger out and so they would be able to punch and attack sacks of rice or flour so they could feel better. As well as helping them to get their anger out, doing this would make it so they were healthy. Since it was a lot of moving around, and there were zu'aan whose jobs didn’t offer them physical movement, this became a beneficial way for them to relieve their anger while also getting into shape. It has started as a small gym that many didn’t know about, but as soon as word had spread about it, there were multiple zu'aan that would go there so they could get their anger out properly.

It got to the point where the gym turned into multiple gyms that ended up charging a subscription so the owners could afford to get more equipment into the gym for the zu'aan to use.

Culture

For the most part, the zu'aan from Danic city spent their time doing their jobs. They wanted to make sure their city would prosper and that they would make money so they could continue to grow. As well, spending their time working would make it so that they were tired and ready for bed by the time they came home, minimizing the chances that they would get mad and end up causing a fight. There were times when the zu'aan from Danic city would do other things that weren't working or sleeping. They were a social group, wanting to talk and to spend time with their friends every chance they got to do so.

This meant that there were many groups of zu'aan that would go into the city to spend their extra time with their friends. They would go to the tavern so they could eat, or they would go to the theater to see a show. It didn’t matter what they did, as long as they were surrounded with their friends, they were happy. Occasionally, there would come a time when they would do things that weren't just hanging out with their friends or working. These things were marriages, birthdays, funerals, or even special parties they would have together.

While there wasn’t anything special about birthdays, funerals or parties, there were a couple od special things that would happen when there were engagements and marriages. Upon engagement, the one who was proposing to the other would bring an offering from their job. A farmer might bring some crop, or a nice animal. A blacksmith might make a knife. A baker might bring some bread or a sweet cake that they would make. Regardless of their job, they would bring an offering as incentive to show whomever they were trying to impress, that they were worth marrying.

Even if the proposal didn’t go as planned, the one that was proposed to would be allowed to keep the offering if they so chose, as it was given to them as a gift. When marriages happened, there was a special process that would happen. While the couple would usually be living together for a while before they were married, they wouldn’t be allowed to talk to each other about the ritual that would be performed at their wedding. This ritual wasn’t something that was rehearsed as it was better to be something that was raw and unrehearsed. Before a couple was pronounced married, they would each have to take a rodent that was the same sex as they were, and they would have to kill it.

They would each do this at the same time before they would wash their hands in the blood of the rodents together. In doing this they were signifying their union with blood, as that was the highest thing they could do to show their love for each other. Since it was bad to spill their own blood because it could attract kin’toni, they would do it with rodent blood instead.

Government

The government that ran Danic city were corrupt with the need to make money. They wanted to make as much money as they possibly could, but because of this, they would tax their own villagers to make sure they knew that the government was in charge. When the land was split, there was no need to create the tax for it as they were only worried about making sure that everyone had a job and had food coming into their homes. As soon as the land prospered, and there was enough food for them to start selling to other clans, the government announced that they would be taxing the land so that they could offset the costs of buying animals and seeds to grow from other places.

While at first this was something that the people initially thought was a good idea, once the taxes started to rise beyond what was deemed as reasonable, the zu'aan that were farming started to realize that the government wanted a piece of the money that was being made by the people. Because of the tax that was put in place, there were many zu'aan that were unable to continue with farming as they couldn’t make enough to see and offset the tax. Because they were unable to keep their land to continue farming it, they had to sell the land back to the government or to other zu'aan that wanted it and could afford it.

The zu'aan that were displaced were forced to find another way to make an income to provide for their families. Some realized that they had other skills they could use, and so they went on to become blacksmiths, tavern owners, shop owners, or an employee at any of those places. They were able to make their fortunes and feed their families, as well as helping the city grow. Once again, as soon as the government caught wind of how much money their people were making, just in feeding themselves, they imposed another tax that entitled them to a portion of the money made by the zu'aan that were working.

This tax was higher for the owners of the establishments as they made more money. It was made clear that the government was only doing this because they didn’t want to find their own ways to make their own money. They knew that they could force the zu'aan from the city to pay and so that was what they did. While the zu'aan didn’t like it, they knew there wasn’t much that could be done and so they allowed it, knowing that as long as the government was in power, they would change laws to make it easier for themselves, rather than the people who lived there.

As well, it made the zu'aan endlessly angry causing there to be fights and murders as there were some that agreed with the taxes and many that didn’t. For a long time, the zu'aan were divided, and it created issues that weren't able to be fixed.

Military

The military from Danic city were there because they liked to be in charge of things, just as the government did. They liked that they were able to make rules and uphold them because there were many zu'aan that were too scared of them to do anything about it. Since they were appointed, the army had focussed more on hazing their own members, rather than carrying out the tasks that they were supposed to do. They liked to make the new recruits fight the stronger army members so that they could find their “place” in the ranks of the army. The leaders would say they were doing this so they could test the newer members to see what skills they had and if they could put them to good use.

But many of the other recruits knew that this was a lie that they told the government and other zu'aan that were thinking of joining, so that they would let their guard down and the army wouldn’t get in trouble for what they were doing. Since there was so much hazing that was going on within the military, there weren't many zu'aan that wanted to join. They didn’t want to be subject to the cruel hazing of the higher ranks, and so they decided they would rather do anything else. Because of this, there were many time when zu'aan would have to be forced into the army, since there weren't enough members to withstand the attacks of the kin’toni, or even other zu'aan armies.

They were scared that their city would be overrun by another city since they didn’t have enough soldiers to keep themselves safe. They wanted to be safe, but they didn’t want to give up their hazing techniques for anything. This left them being vulnerable and open to attacks, which was something that surprisingly didn’t happen as much as it could. When there were battles that the army needed to go and attend to, the government would force any of the zu'aan from the city that were fit, young, and healthy to join. They didn’t have a choice and would be put into jail if they declined going.

The draft was sent out in the mail, being delivered to the homes where it was known there were zu'aan that could attend. They took zu'aan that had been drafted before and weren't injured, as well as some of the zu'aan that owned shops so they could provide for the army as well. This was something that didn’t happen often, but when it did, there were zu'aan that would do everything they could to hide from the government so they wouldn’t be forced to do something they didn’t want to do. They would either run away or they would hide so they couldn’t be drafted. The only problem with them doing this was that as soon as they were found their were either sent to the army anyways, or they were taken to jail for disobeying the law.

Religion

Since there were things that the zu'aan from Danic did that could be considered religious, a quick religion was built surrounding them. While there were the marriages that would have the rituals in them, always ensuring that they went off without a problem, there were also things that the zu'aan from Danic city would do throughout the year to make sure that they were doing their jobs well. Twice a year, the zu'aan who were farmers would have to pick from their animals for a sacrifice in order to keep their land prosperous.

They believed that in doing this two times in the year, they would be able to have their god look down on their crops and animals and help them to grow. Once a year they would take a male and female of each species of animal they grew, and these would be the smallest adult animals there. They would ask for their animals to grow bigger in the next year as they let the animal blood soak into the earth. The next time, they would take a male and female from each species, and they would make sure they were the biggest, and they would kill them in thanks to their god since their animals were growing so well.

They did this each year as a way to thank the god and ask them for things, since they believed that was what their god did. Other times, they would pray for weather, wanting rain or warmer temperatures to help them to grow their crops. There was no proof that asking for this would help, but they were happy when they were able to have their request granted. Most of the prayers they would send in would be granted within a couple days, as there were times when there were things that were already in motion to grant the prayers. However, the more prayers that were granted, the more zu'aan there were that were happy about how things were done, and so they would continue to believe.

It didn’t take long before almost every single zu'aan from the city believed in this god. They only called him god, and would refer to him as such, since there was no need to try and come up with a different name. They were happy and secure in their religion, and because of this they wouldn’t try and make others believe. When the army would go out for battles they would pray for them to be safe, and they would pray for marriages and funerals, but otherwise the majority of the prayers would go to the crops and animals when the sacrifices would happen.

This is how they liked it to be, and there was nothing that could change that for them. Their religion was a secure belief among them, but it also was not something that was forced on anyone. If someone was to choose not to believe, that was their choice, and the rest would go about their day without worry.
