History

The Kuznevskov city zu'aan were founded by their leader Thesaon Competa in the Nabenia Temperate Coniferous Forest. They were composed of a wide variety of refugees and clanless wanderers who had nowhere to run too. Their membership would soar during periods of crisis such as wars and conflicts and the kin'toni outbreak when people deserted their clans. She was the daughter of a local craftswoman and hunter who learned both of her parent's arts and mastered them at a very young age. She was brought up a very soft-spoken girl and was quite shy.

She stuck to herself for most of her youth and preferred to spend her time learning and mastering her craft instead of indulging in the playful dates and the gossip that her peers indulged in. As she grew older, she began to discover a more rebellious side of herself. She knew she was different from other females of her own batch and had given up trying to fit in. She began to find her own voice as a rebel and began to actively campaign and persuade the tribes elders that she was unlike other girls and thus, she shouldn't be treated as such.

The elders would punish Thesaon out of spite for questioning the tribe’s thousand-year-old traditions. She was sent to a penal battalion of soldiers that were constituted of criminals, convicts and those unacceptable to society. She quickly took to their ways and became accepted as one of their own. It was some of the most adventurous and carefree time of her life surrounded by excitement and comrades on all sides. All this would change when the group was assigned to the task of infiltrating and burning down the storehouses of a nearby zu'aan clan called the Usuts.

Their act was to be a diversion for the main raid coming up after them. The mission had been destined to failed from the start and Thesaon would discover that there had never been a main force arranged to rescue them. Most of their numbers were cut down after they set fire to the houses and the remaining few, including Thesaon were taken in as hostages. This phase in her life would be among the hardest periods of her life and she was forced to witness the continued torture of her fellow prisoners as well as her own abuse at the hands of the Usut guards.

Her deliverance would come in the form of the kin'toni outbreak when a band of kin'toni raiders attacked the Usut outpost where she was held and killed every Usut zu'aan in sight. These kin'toni would search the grounds and discover the underground tunnel complex where the prisoners and Thesaon were being held. They took pity on seeing the state of the prisoners and decided to spare them. Thesaon would negotiate with the leader of this band of kin'toni who admired her resilience and was eager to hear her story.

The leader was particularly sympathetic to her story and offered her the chance to accompany them to their next target, her tribe's village in the Nabenia forest. Thus, Thesaon and the remaining members of the penal battalion would witness the destruction of the clan that had betrayed them and led to her suffering for so many years. They would build the foundations of their new clan using the labor and experience of many surrounding refugees and expelled zu’aan groups who willingly joined them in rebuilding from the ashes of their old settlement.

They named it the Kuznevsknov city and called themselves the Kunesknov city zu’aan.

Psychology

Thesaon Competa intended the Kuznevsknov city zu'aan to be a place of refuge for all kinds of zu'aan who had been cast away and expelled from their clans or were seeking refuge. She could relate to this emotion and had a deep longing for security and belonging herself as she spent her early years as an outcast. She imparted this feeling into her clan and they became known for their inclusivity and acceptance of other cultures and practices. Their members came from all over the region and had many distinct practices which were all accepted within thier clan.

They were known for their compassionate streak and their ability to sympathize with the suffering of others. Their city came to be known as a safe haven for all the destitute and clanless wanderers and was famous for the accepting attitudes of the clan members. This became a major part of their psychology and came to define them for their entire existence. The Kuznevsknov city zu'aan's founders were all former prisoners who had suffered greatly during their time as prisoners at the hands of the Usut zu'aan.

They endured a lot of suffering and carried a lot of emotional scars as a result. The continuous strain of their imprisonment took an enormous toll on their surviving comrades who succumbed to madness or resorted to self-harm and attempted suicide to get away from it all. By the end of their captivity, most of the remaining prisoners had already been driven into different stages of madness and many had succeeded in taking their own lives. Thesaon for her own part spent her days scratching out the names of each member of her tribe as a way to keep her sanity.

They made a resolution to never let history repeat itself and took all precautions to avoid it. They were very wary and suspicious of aggressive or militaristic clans surrounding them and actively kept their armies at the ready to counter any incoming threat. The clan had very paranoid outlook towards other clans and did not actively sought out contact or alliance with others. Thesaon trained the clan to be more resilient and prepared than she had ever been. They maintained a strict training routine and were taught to always have a recourse to armed conflict at all times.

She, along with the first members who had served in the penal battalions used their military experience to better organize the clan and make them more effective in combat. They shared a deep bond and comradeship amongst themselves due to the similar circumstances in which all members of the clan were recruited. They saw themselves as the unwanted and outcasts of the zu’aan and regarded them with disdain. They had more understanding for the kin’toni whose actions they considered as being driven out of biological need and not out of malice- as was the case with the zu’aan.

They had all abandoned their former loyalties and ties to their previous clans and had learnt to accept the Kuznevsknov's way of life. They were fiercely loyal to their clan and were willing to defend it with their lives.

Culture

The Kuznevsknov city zu'aan culture was known for its celebration of life and freedom. They considered themselves as the champions of oppressed people everywhere and would go out of their way to provide help. Most of their members were recruited from among the destitute and suffering zu'aan individuals who had either been expelled or lost their tribe to war and conflict. The clan eagerly welcomed such individuals into their clan and promised them a safe place where they could rebuild their lives and prosper.

This culture was borne out of the ideology of their founders who were all ostracized tribesmen who had suffered long and hard years serving in the penal battalions of their times. They were treated as an expendable force and would end up being betrayed and captured by their enemies. They endured a lot of torture and suffering during this time and would grow to detest most of the organized and power-hungry zu'aan clans. They could relate to the experience of people who had been mistreated by these clans- they were the only type of acceptable zu'aan in their book.

The Kuznevsknov culture did not stand for indiscriminate violence, which they only resorted to when it became inevitable or when they were under threat. Their practiced caution and preparation so they would never have to endure any of their previous sufferings ever again. Their army was composed of almost the entirety of their clan. Most of their members participated out of the sheer willingness to be of use to their clan. This feeling of selflessness was encouraged by their culture and became the defining part of the clan's identity.

The Kuznevsknov culture did not have a lot of celebrations and festivities. They were a very paranoid clan and considered celebrations as a sign of overconfidence and a lackadaisical attitude. They commemorated certain events such as the date of their founding in muted gatherings without much revelry or cheer. Their language and practices were borrowed from a lot of different zu'aan clans due to the nature of their recruitment while retaining the dominant Nabenia zu'aan influence of their founders.

The Kuznevsknov zu'aan clan were known to be one of the few zu'aan clans who held a positive regard for the kin’toni. They regarded their aggressive natures and their need to attack the zu'aan as a biological nature which had nothing to do with their intentions. They were more accepting of the kin'toni than the power hungry zu'aan clans of the region. This attitude was also due to the early experience of their founder who was saved as a result of a kin’toni intervention during the outbreak.

These band of kin'toni raiders attacked the Usut outpost where she was held and killed every Usut zu'aan in sight while also discovering the prison complexes where they found Thesaon and her fellow prisoners. They took pity on them after seeing their state and decided to spare them. Thesaon would negotiate with the leader of this band of kin'toni who admired her resilience and was eager to hear her story. The kin’toni would go on to help her exact her revenge on her previous zu’aan clan.

Government

The Kunevsknov city zu'aan clan were governed by a ruling committee with their leader at the head. This system of government was designed by their founder, Thesaon Competa after her liberation from the clutches of a hostile zu'aan clan. She, along with her band of survivors would go about setting up this new clan that focused on providing security and ensuring that none of them endured the indignity of being captured for a second time. Their government was very experienced in security matters.

Most of the ruling committee members were all Thesaon's comrades who had served alongside her as part of a penal battalion and had endured the same torture and imprisonment as her. They addressed the issue of defense by exaggerating the defensive and military aspects of the clan. Although it was not actively enforced or stated, every member of the clan was expected to contribute to the clan’s military efforts. This was ingrained into their culture and non-participation or conscientious objectors were seen as cowards or ungrateful members.

They were organized into smaller units who were commanded by their own generals during wartime. As a leader, Thesaon was responsible for making all major decisions involving the economy, diplomacy, trade and warfare. These decisions were taken in consultation with the committee and other core advisors of the leader. The clan wanted the leadership to be responsible to its clan members and wanted to avoid the tyranny that was associated with many other zu'aan clans of the region.

Their government was democratic with regards to the election of their leader and his ruling committee. Every leader following Thesaon was elected by the citizens votes. Their society was quite liberal and were granted any liberties that were not found in most other clans. This stemmed from the clan's appreciation of freedoms after experiencing the hardships of imprisonment and torture. They were allowed to freely express themselves and were protected from any arbitrary imprisonments or arrests.

The clan did not have any secret police force with excessive powers as was common to most other clans of the era. There was never a need for revolts as each member's opinion was well represented and discussed before every decision. The government was responsible for maintaining this equality among all of their members. There was no special privilege or weightage given to any members opinion, and everything was decided on the basis of a fair voting system. The leader also served as the judge of the clan and members could bring their problems to him at all times.

These matters were given a fair hearing in front of the entire clan.

Military

The Kuznevsknov city zu'aan clan were very familiar with combat due to the circumstances surrounding their formation. Their first members were composed of experienced members of the zu'aan penal battalions. The nature of their unit meant that they were always deployed at the thick of action where they could expect to fight for days without any relief or support. These unit were composed of the unruly or members who couldn't fit into the clan. The Kuznevsknov clan's founder Thesaon Competa found herself in this battalion as a result of her rebellious teenage years when she couldn't fit into the clan's prescribed roles for girls her age.

She was cut from a more adventurous cloth and her ways constantly clashed with the clan's principles. They were finally forced to banish her into the penal battalions to prevent other girls her age from becoming influenced by her actions. She would find her calling with the unit and quickly became one of their most popular members. Life was hard and familiar faces would disappear after each mission to be replaced by new faces who would quickly disappear just as quickly.

Her survival was mostly due to the love of her new compatriots, who took pity on her as the first and only teenager to be assigned among them. She was the lucky mascot of the group and they would go out of their way at every opportunity to ensure that no harm came to her. The unit would be taken as prisoners after a betrayal that saw them spend the next decades languishing in decrepit prisons. This phase was well ingrained into their minds and they were willing to take all precautions to ensure that there was no repeat of the experience.

They were finally liberated by a band of kin'toni raiders who attacked the Usut outpost where she was held and killed every Usut zu'aan in sight. These kin'toni would search the grounds and discover the underground tunnel complex where the prisoners were being held. They took pity on seeing the state of the prisoners and decided to spare them. Thesaon would negotiate with the leader of this band of kin'toni who admired her resilience and offered her the chance to take her revenge on her former clan.

Thus, Thesaon and the remaining members of the penal battalion would witness the destruction of the clan that had betrayed them and led to their suffering for so many years. The kin'toni leader would take his leave after the deed was done with a promise that he would never visit the site again as long as Thesaon promised not to come after his band when she rebuilt her own clan. These former penal members of the clan used their experience to train their new clan- the Kuznevsknov, and prepare them for all kinds of warfare.

Training was conducted on the regular and using the weapons that they would use in battle. These exercises helped them get familiar and proficient with the use of their weapons. All members of the clan normally enrolled themselves into the army although it was not compulsory. It was more of a tradition as those that did not perform their military service were seen as cowards or ungrateful leeches. The clan had competent weapons and armor that borrowed designs from all over the region.

This was because of the nature in which the clan's members were recruited from among the expelled zu'aan from all over the world. These members would bring their cultures, traditions and weapons along with them, leading to the variety in their weapon and armor styles.

Religion

Most of the members of the Kunevsknov city zu'aan shunned all religious experience and were known to be practicing atheists. This was the prevalent attitude among most of their founding members including their leader Thesaon Competa, and could be attributed to their deep resentment against all zu'aan practices and religions. Most of these original members had renounced their religions during their time in prison when they realized that they had been betrayed by the very zu'aan who they considered as their own race.

This started their disdain and rejection of all zu'aan beliefs and practices. They were very pragmatic and believed in only what existed and could be seen. This allowed scientific knowledge and other sciences to develop in their region. Although these elders were atheists, they did not actively discourage religious practices among their members. They realized that this principle was impossible to enforce among their members since they constantly received members from all different cultures at all times.

Instead, they pursued a soft policy of constant exposure to scientific and provable knowledge and facts which slowly weaned the new recruits away from their conservative religious mindsets. Their main city was famous for the absence of any religious buildings or figures such as priests and monks who were a common sight in most zu'aan cities. They would begin to take a harder stance against religion over the course of their evolution when they noticed some of the recruited members of the clan continue to practice their own native religions.

This practice alienated them from the rest of the clan who were practicing atheist and disturbed by the presence of religion around them. The clan thus, began to make it mandatory for every person who wished to join their clan to renounce every bit of their previous lifestyles including their culture, practices and religion, while adopting the atheistic principles of the Kuznevsknov clan. This helped in creating a sort of homogeneity within the clan and led to a more harmonious social life.

Although the decision appeared to be against their liberal policies, it was seen as necessary to curb any chances of divisions or rifts among their ranks. The leaders were paranoid about such a thing becoming a reality in the future and sought to address the problem before it became a larger issue. Their intention was to lookout for the best interest of the clan even if it mean ruffling some feathers in the present.
