Cave dwellers, reclusive, can be dangerous

History

Originally scientists in a large military compound, this tribe were stuck down with the kin’toni. The surrounding military had at first tried to contain them by locking them into the compound. However they escaped and went on a bloody rampage killing and destroying all in their wake and eventually escaping from the compound, which they left in ruins and a trail of death behind them. Being scientists with curious minds and very good hearted people. They were consumed with guilt and remorse for what they had done and sought to escape the area and go into hiding before they were discovered by any authorities.

They found a secluded line of caves on the coastal tracks and made this their dwelling. They would go out on hunting expeditions to locate fresh zu’aan blood for them to feed on. They would keep this to a minimum, just enough to sustain life as they hated what they had become and really were overcome with deep seated guilt at the evil creatures they had turned into. Their leader DR STAVROS was a woman who believed anything was possible and so she concocted a plan. She suggested to the tribe that they return to their old path of science and undertake a mission in which they use their scientific knowledge to attempt to find a cure for the disease.

Stating that if they could, they would be doing the world a great favour. All were in agreement. Under the cover of darkness they returned to the compound that they had fled to and ransacked the place for all the scientific equipment they could find that would be useful for their plan. Luckily the compound had remained unoccupied and they were able to search for and take all the items they could find. Not wishing to tarry too long they brought all their equipment back to the coastline cave dominions and began their experiments. For several decades they have lived in the underground cave dwellings conducting experiments and tests.

Hoping to find a cure. They have not yet had success but they strive on regardless, each hoping that one day they will be successful in their mission. They have remained mostly hidden and have kept themselves away from the other tribes, never getting involved in politics or war. When they hunt zu’aan, it is done as quietly, quickly and efficiently as possible. They have used their scientific knowledge to create many machines to aid them in their experiments. Although they have only basic technology at their disposal they have always tried to remain inventive.

And even the outdated arcane and medieval equipment they have they think will yield some hope for their never ending search to develop a cure. They have also built many comforts inside the caves for them to feel like they have a home. Like in the days before they were kin’toni. They never relocated anywhere else from the cave dwellings they found as their laboratory though it isn’t very sophisticated is still very important for them and difficult to move. Instead they concentrated on making their dwelling appear uninhabited from the outside and keeping their existence secret from the world, so that they could continue their studies in peace.

Biology

Their eyes have light blue irises with white sclerae and horizontal slit pupils Thin and skeleton like. They lost a lot of weight after they became kin’toni and have developed bony and skeletal features. They are emaciated looking with extremely pale skin and long pointed fingers with sharp long nails that are white with silver edges. They move very slowly and slither when they walk, like serpents. They have very silent breathing and often appear to be like statues as they stand so still. As they only drink zu’aan blood when they absolutely have to they have learned to minimise physical movement to next to nothing.

This is as a way to conserve their energy at all times. They have an overall temperature well below zero. They have a very silent yet strong heart beat. Their internal organs are soft and jelly like. Their blood is silver. They can be injured very easily and it takes them some time to heal. Their skin is very soft. They are not physical creatures are prone to bodily damage and malfunction. They have no tolerance what so ever to direct sunlight and will burn up instantly if exposed to its deadly rays. They can be destroyed by being impaled with iron or wood through the heart. They can also be destroyed by decapitations.

When they have to battle they will wear armor as their skin is so week. They are however highly intelligent and their brains can problem solve equations, conundrums and problems very quickly. They sleep for shorter periods of time as their brains are in a constant state of overdrive. They have created underground lairs that replicate night, even when outside is daylight to compensate their erratic sleeping patterns. Due to lack of sleep and food being a constant feeling for them, this tribe are considered to be insane. They are highly eccentric, typical scientist types.

They are kind natured and non violent as their brains have become accustomed to doing more work then their bodies, so they have next to no testosterone outbursts. They have a very fast metabolism and are in a constant state of starvation so never grow fat and remain very thin. They sometimes do not sleep for days. They have little sensations in their bodies. Their thoughts are very strong and they often have waking visions. They are a deeply thought based tribe. When they feed on zu’ann blood it will fill them up and then make them sleep for long periods of time.

Culture

They are a thinking tribe, scientists in life, they deny themselves from their insatiable thirst for blood and pursue the path of the mind. They are a good people and although consumed by guilt for their addiction to zu’aan blood they have taken it upon themselves to use their powerful minds and scientific skills to find and develop a cure for kin’toni. They are very respectful of one another. They are fanatics in their quest to discover a cure and they are always in their laboratory with every waking hour. Sometimes they are forced to hunt, but in this time they divide the clan so that there is always someone in the lab.

It is important to them that their work never stops. They are very hopeful that they will one day find a cure and help heal the world. Their leader DR STAVROS is a very well respected scientist. And when they lived was in chare of the laboratory they worked in at the military compound. She is considered to be highly intelligent and skilled by the rest of the tribe so they happily accept her as their constant leader. STAVROS has compiled many books and manuscripts pertaining to their search to create a cure and has built a library in one of the caves dedicated to their lives work.

And also all the important knowledge and culturally significant history from their past. This work is available for all the other tribal scientists to peruse at any time. Each of them also adds to the information. They read together often and will have heated discussions about many scientific and medical theories. Through conversation they keep alive their past and also increase their knowledge. They are constantly looking for ways to develop and increase their mind and understanding of science and the mechanics of the world. They are pacifists and stay away from other clans as much as possible.

They work very hard to keep their labyrinth of underground cave dwellings a secret and hidden from the rest of the world. They share everything that they have with each other. They believe that through combining their talents and resources they will ultimately discover the cure together and save the world. When they find zu’aan blood they will drain the bodies and place the blood into large vessels which they will bring back and store in a ‘blood bank’ which they have created. This is a make shift refrigeration system that they have built at the bottom of an indoor natural pool at the bottom of one of the lower caves in their domain.

This blood is rationed and they share it amongst them selves equally. The main part of their culture is geared towards them developing a cure and their society is based on sharing knowledge, raw materials and space. They are very respectful of each other and every tribal member is as important as the other. Although they have a leader, they have a very democratic state. They are people of the mind.

Government

They are a very democratic society and each member of the clan has a vote about every thing that effects the tribe. There are 12 key political figures who are known as THE CHAIRS. These are leading thinkers in the tribe who are deemed to be appropriate candidates for positions of power due to many deciding factors including but not limited to intelligence, a broad range of scientific skill sets. Knowledge of the tribes history and culture, an overall understanding of the research being conducted by the tribe and strong moralistic and holistic code of conduct and honor.

In short these group of twelve have been elected by the tribe to be key decision makers. They are trustworthy and respected members of their society who have proven themselves to be pioneers in scientific fields of discovery and also are regarded as being very honest, a highly important trait in this tribe. They will deal directly with DR STAVROS, the tribes leader. The twelve will make any issues or grievances/potential problems known to STAVROS and they will then discuss the matter at great length. Dr Stavros will usually have an answer very quickly of what she thinks is the best course of action to take.

And this information will be brought before the clan by the 12, who will then be given the opportunity to vote on it. The clan do not possess any egos and are not selfish or driven by a need for power, so they tend to make informed decisions based on the facts presented to them at that given time and they always decide to do what is best for the clan. They also tend to value the opinion of STAVROS and mostly will take her advise. In this society no one is ever ordered to do anything. They are methodical and also highly diplomatic. They can however take many days to come to a decision.

As they will talk about the conundrum in great details before finally coming to a unanimous decision. DR STAVROS is driven by a desire to do what ever is best for the greater good of the clan and will service their ultimate goals and needs, which is to continue with their scientific research and to ultimately discover a cure for the dreaded kin’toni. They have no need for any laws as they are a peace loving community bound by the common goal of scientific and medical discovery. They never argue with one another, steal or are involved in any petty squabbles. Their consciousness has reached a higher plateu and they all share the same goal.

STAVROS spends more political time maintaining their literature and research books, files, manuscripts and notes, keeping their knowledge base up to date. The most important commodity the clan have is their ever expanding knowledge. They do however treat the security of their cave compound as highly important and doctor is always looking for new and better ways to improve their security and maintain the secrecy of their existence.

Military

They are not a violent tribe by any means. They are more interested in pursuing avenues of the mind and doing what they can to repair the problems in the world, which they believe they are very much an integral part of that problem. They do however understand that it is imperative that they not only look after but also enhance their chance of survival. The most important thing to them is that they can maintain their scientific research. and be in with a chance of successfully developing a cure. Being scientists they are totally fanatic about their studies and will do what ever it takes to make sure that this is a success.

They have all learned how to defend themselves and use long range weapons, knowing that they would not be much use in close quarter fighting, due to their pacifistic natures. They have made some basic mechanically operated crossbows that fire metal arrows at long distance targets. They have also worked out a way to dip them in hot tar which they then set fire to and aim at the enemy, taking special care of course not to set fire to themselves in the process. Their military tactics go beyond mere attack or defence. They understand that the most logical course of action is for them to avoid war completely.

They have developed a system of military security where they spend more time disguising their outer perimeters so that their dwellings look completely uninhabited. They also take care to have disguises all around the entrance and exits so that it also looks dangerous and inhospitable with many natural obstacles and dangerous looking objects, overgrown nettles and sharp rusted objects. They believe that if the terrain looks potentially life threatening, as well as unoccupied, then they are less likely to encounter any unwelcome guests or visitors. This is a far more intelligent course of action for them.

As they would very probably lose a battle with a well organised band of warriors. They have fought in the past and been victorious but they do not wish to tempt fate, they know where there strong points are and where their week points are. Hunting expeditions are also kept to a minimum and the dead bodies are left at the site where they killed them, usually as far away as possible from their dwellings so as not to arouse suspicion in their area. They will then drain the bodies and place the blood in containers which will then be brought back to their caves. They take special care to hide not only their base.

But also to hide their very existence from the entire world. The less people who know of them, the less likely they will ever find themselves in a violent scenario and risk very probable destruction. They are a tribe who are more mind orientated then physically led so their entire military is structured around surveillance, secrecy and security.

Religion

They believe that science holds all the answers that the spirit requires. Even before they were kin’toni they were more methodical and logical in their approach to questions of a spiritiual natural. Their whole existence is about proving that which is real to be real. They search for facts. They are a curious people who want to understand how the universe works and they believe in the power of the cosmos but in a scientific way, where everything is logical and plausible. DOCTOR STAVROS is their leader and guide through the journey of their existence.

They all look to her in matters of confusion and also as a means of discovering the general direction that they should go in the journey of their existence. Their reason for this is also logical, as she has proved herself on countless occasions to be an amazing leader and not only that, but also a brilliant scientist who has made many great discoveries and advances in the scientific world. They believe only in what they can prove to be real. Anything else is an illusion or a conundrum. They are eager to learn but they doubt anything that falls into the realms of ‘mumbo jumbo’ as they would put it.

Facts are what interest them and they believe that all the great mysteries of the world and the universe have a scientific and logical answer. They have a very strong moral compass and will do anything for one another. They believe that they are all equal in the tribe and each member has a huge value. They are all part of the great machine that is their clan and it is their opinion that if any member was missing then their tribe would not be as effective as it is. They have a theory that through physical order by the individual comes a greater balance for the entire group.

Being their nature to question things and also to have healthy debates about the nature of existence. They will often have deep and meaningful discussions with each other about many spiritual topics and often their conversations can get very deep and heated, though it never turns to anger. They love to discuss important subjects that concern life, the universe and all the important things of the cosmos that have special bearing on their own individual existence.

They will always listen to each other as they think the individual opinions are very important. Even when they debate with one another they will allow the other to express themselves fully before they in turn speak. Sometimes they have very large gatherings when all are present and they will discuss incredibly important topics at this time. They have no priest as such as they do not believe in organised religion, though they do often look to the twelve and in some very important cases, STAVROS herself to give them guidance. Their clan is a tribe of the mind and they strive to be a good clan.
