Monyl Kin'toni Clan
History
The “hungry killers” from the Manyl clan have earned their nicknames over the past years. They were once a group of kin'toni that were so full of rage and hate for anything that was not themselves, and sometimes even their peers weren’t safe. The kin'toni that would eventually join this tribe caused the most confusion and chaos in the initial outbreak, out of every other type of kin'toni. They did not discriminate in their killing, zu'aan men, women, children, they all ended up becoming preys to the rage-filled killers that in several years would get together and call themselves “The Manyl clan”.
It was in 4E 41 that some kin'toni with certain characteristics, namely, the powerful desire to tear every single piece of flesh that they would find, got together and decided to join forces, this would be the best way, according to them, to cause the biggest amount of suffering possible. The members of this clan would set up camp in a region for a few decades and would try to rinse it of any other population that lived there. By the end of those few decades, not more than scorched earth and dead zu'aan would exist. When the tribes in the region heard that the hungry killers of Manyl were setting up camp in their region.
Most of them would flee without taking anything with them, for this was safer than sticking around and trying to protect themselves from this clan. The reputation that the Manyl clan started to have was their own worst enemy, most fled even before the kin'toni had the chance to terrorize their villages and murder entire towns. They eventually settled down, for what was supposed to be only a couple of years, in the Swamplands. They kept on gathering their blood and getting more powerful with each passing day, however, there was something that changed everything.
One cold afternoon, after the sun could no longer be seen in the sky, a group of strangers, that the Manyl later found to be kin'toni, started to set up camp very near to where the Manyl themselves were. This eventually led to a war between the Manyl and the other clan, the Xaldtai. The Manyl thought that only one kin'toni clan should exist per region, otherwise, they would have to move again faster than they have been moving so far, for there might not be enough blood for everyone. Many soldiers died in the war, to a point that both realized that it was not the right decision to continue it.
However, the war ended up benefiting both sides, they realized that they would be stronger as allies, and that their individual goals were not antithetic. In fact, they could help each other with their individual goals. This allegiance with the Xaldtai clan ended up changing both tribes, due to the fact that they had to coexist in relatively the same region. The members of the Manyl clan became calmer and more collected, the insane lust for destruction diminished.
Biology
Usually, all the kin'toni of this clan share the same physical traits, they all have orange irises with white sclerae and crescent pupils that turn darker and become red once their hunger has reached a particular point. They bodies are large and most Monyl have already the body of a fighter a couple of weeks after being turned into kin'toni. However, the process is not pleasant, most of the transformation is a painful process that renders the infected powerless and motionless for at least a week. When this stage passes, the muscles start tearing themselves on purpose so that the muscle tissue grows back stronger.
The more pain one feels in this transitional stage, the more likely that kin'toni is to be physically powerful than average. In the end of the infection, the kin'toni develops a slightly darker skin in comparison with its former shade. Additionally, the body of a member of the Manyl clan is covered in veins, some are even ashamed of this and wear masks to hide their face, which also has this problem, especially during a fight. After many years of a semi-nomadic lifestyle, the Manyl realized something incredible about themselves.
The lust for destruction that every member appeared to have was only an intense lust for blood. When they consumed it, their bodies calmed down and there was no hate or rage to dominate and cloud their senses. Before this realization, it was normal for many Manyl to go absolutely insane if they had not consumed blood in a few weeks. Some of the members of this clan would commit suicide or attack fellow soldiers, due to this momentary madness, however, this went away after their realization that it was necessary to consume blood constantly.
Hunting for it was a necessary task, much more vital than they had realized. When they infect a zu'aan, there is a high probability of that zu'aan becoming insane, the process is so difficult that only the strongest can survive it. Although this might be considered a problem, because most of the people they turn end up falling into insanities claws, it can also be seen as an advantage, the ones that survive show much more promise as future Manyl fighters. Movement is something very important in this clan, they walk like normal kin'toni and zu'aan.
And running does not pose a challenge to them. However, because their bodies are so powerful, being restricted to running with two legs actually hinders their potential, if they run on all fours, the Manyl can achieve speeds that almost seem impossible to other tribes and clans in Taerel. Finally, the Manyl have one distinct flaw in their biological design, their power comes with a terrible consequence, the veins in their bodies can burst at any moment if a kin'toni uses their body to a point of exhaustion. This means that they constantly need to be aware of how strained they are.
If one vein bursts, if it is a small one, then a member of this clan is probably safe, however, if a major vein bursts, then that kin'toni may die instantly.
Culture
Blood is the mark of the kin'toni of the Manyl clan, it is so important to them that every aspect of their society has, somehow, something to do with blood. This is not any type of blood of course; it is solely the blood of zu'aan. Most Manyl walk around with blood-marks on their bodies, they take small quantities of it and draw the symbol of the clan on their bodies, this then dries and it appears as though it is a wound in the shape of their symbol. Furthermore, the Manyl have rituals of the seasons that revolve around blood.
In the summer there are matches in an arena where the objective is to cut the other kin'toni enough so that they bleed out. This means that taking the head of your opponent is often considered a weak move and a way to avoid the fight itself, which means that although one might have killed their opponent, that kin'toni has not won the fight and should feel shame for his performance. The spring and autumn are considered the “in between” seasons and they are celebrated by hunting every day, from dusk till dawn, the members of this clan leave, alone, into the wild and search for a worthy prey.
At the end of the day they return to the settlement only to repeat this process in the following day. By the end of each season, the kin'toni that has been able to gather the biggest amount of blood can win something of their choosing, be it a particular weapon or perk in the clan. Although in the early days of this tribe there wasn’t much art that was created by the Manyl, this has changed since they understood their increased desire for the thing that is now the main subject of all their artistic endeavors, blood. There are entire books, considered very valuable to all the kin'toni population.
That explain everything this clan has figured out, over the years, about the blood and its different types. There are so called “blood mages” and, although they do not perform any type of magic, the kin'toni of Manyl seem to think that they do. The knowledge that the blood mages possess with from researching blood and its properties over several decades and, with it, they have discovered how to use the blood to make transfusions that can save the lives of those that have lost a lot of it. Despite this being the only practical use of their knowledge so far.
It has already helped the clan immensely and the blood mages are still trying to figure out other uses for it. So much attention is given to blood that the several members of the Manyl clan have particular amounts of blood that is offered to them. These are fixed amounts that vary according to the rank of the kin'toni, the dependence on it, the number of kin'toni in one household, the last time they had blood and many other things. This helps keep track of this valuable substance but it is also the source of many disagreements between the different members of the clan.
Government
The government of the Manyl clan has always been a target of discussion among the members of the clan themselves. Although it is a surprisingly mature government for a people that only wished to create chaos until a few years ago, it still has its fair share of problems. When they settled down in the swamps, they realized that to work as a community that did not rely on total destruction for survival, they had to develop the political aspect to their clan. First of all, this clan decided that it was going to be a sort of monarchy, in which there was one ruler that made all the decisions.
Despite being advised by a variety of kin'toni experts on a variety of subjects. However, this all happened during the war they had with the Xaldtai clan, and because it was a time of increasing discontent, for the war was leading to nothing, the sole ruler was removed from his post. He was not killed or anything of the sort, but now resides in a cell deep below the settlement, so that he cannot rile up his former supporters. After this failed experiment, as it was considered, the Manyl tried to implement another kind of political system.
It functioned as a democracy in which the members of the tribe had a say in the decisions that were made, however, not every member was considered valuable enough to have a voice of their own, this means that only a small part of the members of this tribe can actually partake in the making of decisions. Despite the problems that this causes, this is the system that they now have and that has able to successfully stop the war and build an alliance with the Xaldtai. Those who have power are in control of the system and, as long as they have more power than those in the lower ranks of society.
This democracy will stay as it is. The lower class does not have the same access to things such as the law. When someone breaks the law, they are not legally allowed to defend themselves, what they can do is to duel with the other person that has committed a crime. The duel must be to the death and serves as a way to get revenge and as amusement for the kin'toni who watch it. This, however, rarely generates fair results, because it is the kin'toni him or herself that was wronged that must duel, even if it is a weaker member of the clan and the crime has been perpetrated by a stronger kin'toni.
This new government has also decided to create the so called “blood prisions”. There is almost no way to understand how it is that they have been able to build such an intricate system of cells, but they keep the zu'aan they do no murder in the cells as if they were cows waiting in line to be slaughtered.
Military
The military of the Manyl consists mostly of a type of warrior they call the “Trerá”, this warrior is a bruiser. They rely on their superior power, together with their fast reflexes that, for someone with as much strength as they have, is unusual. There is little attention paid to defensive strategies, each member of this group of warriors focuses almost solely on their offensive power, because they can easily dominate their opponent without worrying about getting hit. However, this poses a problem for this clan when they are facing another clan or tribe that rely mostly on long-range combat.
In those situations, because the Manyl do not use a heavy armor or shields, they find themselves incredibly weakened. This weakness is something that hasn’t been as much of a problem since they allied themselves with the Xaldtai. This other clan is as well equipped as any other faction in all of Taerel, they have powerful shields and armor and, therefore, they can take the suppressing fire of the enemy, whilst the Manyl hide flank the enemy. The Manyl fight with unrivaled power and motivation, every drop of blood they shed, every enemy killed only fuels this feeling even further.
It is a vicious circle of war and destruction when the members of this clan start fighting. The use of blood is also present in battles, the blood mages are always present in the backlines of the battlefield to perform an immediate transfusion if a high-ranking member of the clan gets wounded to the point that they are losing a lot of blood. Additionally, they also supply the tired troops with blood so that they get an energy boost that allows them to fight on for days, if necessary, there are particular types of blood that serve almost as if they are drugs.
However, because they are vital to the war effort, the enemies that know this try to focus their energies on killing these blood mages, so that the warriors cannot benefit from their expertise. After the battle, the zu'aan prisoners must take the fresh bodies of their fellow tribe members to a special room where they are kept and bled out, not one single drop must go to waste. Furthermore, each battlefield, after it has been used, becomes a sacred location for the Manyl, the warriors all sit down between the bodies of their enemies and the bodies of their friends to sing and dance until the next sunrise.
The Xaldtai have also started following some of these rituals and even benefit from some of the knowledge that the blood mages possess, it is not uncommon for a Xaldtai to have received a blood transfusion or a few drops of special blood so they can become even more unstoppable without having to worry about stamina.
Religion
There is only one God according to the members of the Manyl clan, he is called Blutai and is the god of blood and power. They were not the first kin'toni to praise this God, in the beginning of the first age, shortly after the clan started growing, the Manyl encountered a kin'toni clan that worshipped this God. The two clans developed some sort of bond and, in a few weeks, they had adopted parts of each other culture. The Manyl had started worshipping this God, Blutai, and shortly after the two clans had a falling out over a meaningless matter.
Because the Manyl were already much stronger, the war that ensued meant bad news for the other clan; by the end of it not a single kin'toni that was not Manyl survived. Since then, the God has been seen not only as a protector but also as a reminder of the horrible things that happened in the clan’s past. Blutai is normally shown only as a face with no eyes, the drawings that exist of him are either very dark or so bright that they can not be properly seen. This is the intent of those that draw him, he is supposed to have a connection to Manyl, this is the reason why they can see him.
But due to his inherent superiority, it is very hard for them to be able to see his true form. In an effort to worship this God, on the first day of the year, the Manyl pour poison and blood in the waters of a few small rivers, these two liquids end up mixing and they adopt a black color. For a few hours, everyone in the tribe stands still, while watching the effects of these two liquids. In the end, the rivers turn red and black and all of the fish rise to the surface, dead due to the poison that they have consumed. The Manyl then collect the fish and put them in small baskets.
Then, one by one, the members of the tribe cook grab one fish each and eat it, raw. If the kin'toni survives without suffering, it means that Blutai is with them and they are protected by the God, if one dies or lives but feels in a lot of pain, then the God has forsaken that individual, or simply wants to receive more adoration from them. After every Manyl dies, it is believed that they will approach the gates of Hell and Blutai will decide which ones are going to follow him and which ones will stand at the gates of hell forever, waiting to enter.
This decision is made according to the amount of blood that one has shed in their lifetime, if one has shed enough blood so that the quantity is equal to ones own, then that kin'toni is worthy. If one has shed less than that before his or her death, that kin'toni is considered a failure by the God.
