Yergha Kin'toni Clan
History
The Yergha clan was one of the last clans to be formed inside the zu'aan city occupied by the Parakk, Xarte and Vlakia clans. The Voont was the only clan that travelled to the city and whose members were not zu'aan inhabitants of the city before the outbreak. The Yergha clan was not originally seen as a threat, a rival, or even an actual clan. This was because the “clan” was more like a survivor group made from the rejects of the Xarte clan. When the infection first hit the city, very few of the zu'aan had time to organise themselves into groups, much less militia like the Parakk clan.
Most of the zu'aan were stranded either alone or with their families. Since the city was so small and overcrowded, it did not have the culture of joint families, so the families were usually nuclear with young children. Most of the zu'aan, especially those that inhabited the areas first attacked by the kin'toni, did not leave the city. For some, it was because they were scared and did not know where they would go once they left the city; they hoped that the virus would incapacitate the kin'toni before they were infected. The rest simply could not leave because they were attacked and either killed or infected by the kin'toni.
Of course, the kin'toni disease only made the assailants stronger and quicker – it had no long term effects that incapacitated them. Thus, the zu'aan who tried to wait out the infection were eventually hunted to their homes or ran out of supplies and had to run. However, life was not easy on the kin'toni either. The zu'aan attacked the kin'toni whenever they got the chance to – especially when they had just been infected. There was also a huge shortage of zu'aan in the city as most were either turned, killed, or captured by one of the major clans.
The kin'toni either settled in to the city or joined the Vlakia or Xarte clan, but these clans were fickle and turned kin'toni away or killed them for fun. There was no question at all of joining the proud and incredibly organised Parakk clan. The kin'toni who were abandoned, rejected or injured eventually started leaning on each other for support. Of course, there were disputes and a lot of lives were lost, but eventually there were 10 kin'toni who had banded together for survival who decided to call themselves the Yergha. These kin'toni took up residence in the abandoned warehouse district of the city.
The other clans had chosen more habitable areas like old zu'aan homes, or areas that had access to resources, such as the forest. These Yergha kin'toni focused first on recruiting as many members as they could from the remaining survivor kin'toni. The ones that refused to join them were killed. Then, the Yergha began brainstorming a way to survive. They realised the best way was simply to steal from the established clans until they had enough members to hunt for themselves.

Then, the Yergha began brainstorming a way to survive. They realised the best way was simply to steal from the established clans until they had enough members to hunt for themselves. This was made easier because some of the Yergha’s skin colour was so dark it was almost black, but it was the perfect colour to merge into the surroundings at night. Some of them did not have dark hair, but those either cut it short or dyed it black with the soot left behind from burning the wood available in the warehouses they inhabited.
This, combined with their kin'toni strength and speed, already made it easy for them to slip undetected in between the guards of the other clans but they also trained very hard to achieve this. All the kin'toni trained for most of their days there, the fairer skinned ones protected the warehouse while the darker skinned ones stole away in the night to collect and return with blood. Their evolution eventually chose the darker skinned genes. They also learned how to reproduce from the Voont kin'toni, however unlike the Vlakia and Parakk clans, they had no problems turning zu'aan to reproduce.
After all, their main religion worshipped broken pieces, and being zu'aan but knowing they are kin'toni, in their eyes, represented that. However, the dark skin, black sclerae and vertical slit pupils were the only things that were consistent among all the Yergha kin'toni. Even their hair was still multicoloured, although most of them had dark hair. Now that they no longer needed to steal blood from other clans, they stopped trying to hide their vibrant hair. They took a took a lot of pride in their multi coloured hair and tried to use the tools they had to style their hair in beautiful, zu'aan styles, but they also made their own styles.
Like their hair, the eyes of the Yerga were also unique even inside the clan. They had black sclerae and vertical slit pupils that were the only things that were consistent among all the Yergha kin'toni. However, their irises were brilliantly coloured variations of colours unlike most clans that had one dominant eye colour.
Culture
The Yergha kin'toni had a strong sense of companionship in their culture. This camaraderie was born because they almost did not survive the initial infection in the City. Each of them wes left alone to die, and they probably would have if they had not found each other to rely upon. This is why most of the Yergha kin'toni clan was focused on companionship and the survival of the people as a whole.
The Yergha kin'toni had more difficult living conditions. Unlike the other clans, they have to live in the warehouses rather than in the comfortable home that once belonged to the zu'aan. However the Yergha kin'toni were definitely survivors and they found a way to depend on each other and make their mark in the City. Initially, they have no supporters and they have to lie and steal for their survival. They stole blood, or even entire zu'aan if that was all that was available, as they would stop at nothing to ensure their survival.
It did not take them long for them to realise that that can have an advantage that the other clans do not recognise. Not only do they have a lot of space, they also were not considered as rivalsor even as a proper clan for a long time after their clan was formed. The only people that recognised them as a threat to the Xarte, clan but the Yergha kin'toni eventually convinced them to join forces. The Yergha kin'toni finally realised that their survival was dependent on their ability to work for each other.
There were not enough members in the clan to begin with. Not only that, many of them did not have the dark skin that made it possible for them to hunt successfully. While some of them hunted and stole, the others had to hold down the fort. they had to ensure that the hunters had a safe home to come back to. They also realise that it was not sustainable for all of the children to be raised by their parents. Thus came to being the idea of communal parentship, where all the kin'toni born in the clan were raised together while their parents worked.
Of course, the Yergha clan made it compulsory for every member to join the army, but they did not dictate when that had to be and the Yergha kin'toni could choose any time in their first fifty years of life for that. Their service was kept on records by the military lords. Finally, one of the most striking things about the Yergha kin'toni is how much they cared. They care for themselves, they cared about how much fun they were having. They put on skits and plays to make sure everyone in the clan was having fun.
They also cared for the zu'aan in their captivity. They made sure that the zu'aan were well fed and cared for, although it was awkward for them to grow food for the zu'aan, some of the Yergha kin'toni helped them with manual work.
Government
The Yergha kin’toni had a monarchical system, where the King and the role of all ministers was inherited. This system worked because the Yergha kin'toni had a lot of camaraderie The Yergha clan was one of the last clans to be formed inside the zu'aan city occupied by the Parakk, Xarte and Vlakia clans. This was made easier because some of the Yergha’s skin colour was so dark it was almost black, but it was the perfect colour to merge into the surroundings at night. The Yergha kin’toni were determined to survive, so they also did their best to learn from the mistakes of the clans they stole from.
After the Voont formed an alliance with the Parakk, the Yergha also tried but they were rejected because they did not have much to offer. These kin'toni then decided that they would prove them wrong. They started training as hard as the Parakk, and also learned how to hunt by stalking them. The Yergha were incredibly good hunters because they were quick learners and their dark skin merged well into the surroundings at night. The Yergha were actually better hunters than the Parakk as well.
They had ample space to store zu'aan comfortably for long amounts of time as they lived in the warehouse. They also learned how to heal the zu'aan by learning the work of herbs from the Voont. The Yergha also had a lot of companionship as they had been left to die by other clans and only survived on their internal camaraderie. The Government was split up into one Queen, two hunting lords, two welfare lords – who looked after the zu'aan, two military lords – who protected the clan and guarded the territory, and two political lords – who maintained relations with other clans.
Military
The Yergha kin’toni had a monarchical system, where the King and the role of all ministers was inherited. However, the military was controlled by the people and was not under the jurisdiction of the monarchy. This system worked because the Yergha kin'toni had a lot of camaraderie. But before this system was created, the Yergha survived based on their trust for each other, their ability to cooperate, and their strong military. The Yergha clan was one of the last clans to be formed inside the zu'aan city occupied by the Parakk, Xarte and Vlakia clans.
The Yergha clan was not originally seen as a threat, a rival, or even an actual clan. Thus, their military strength mostly consisted of the dark skinned Yergha.
The military was a cohesive unit that worked day and night to ensure that the Yergha kin'toni clan and their secret were kept safe. They had to protect the zu'aan who lived in the city. If the other clans found out that the zu'aan in the Yergha kin'toni clan were actually zu'aan, there would probably be a war in the city. This was because the Yergha clan had more than enough zu'aan to keep the entire city full for a month.
Unlike the rest of the clans, they knew how to plan for the future and they knew that the zu'aan population was declining. They did not want to take the risk of depending on evolution to save them when there were not enough zu'aan to feed on, so they took matters into their own hands. The Yergha were actually better hunters than the Parakk as well. They had to create a military that oversaw their training and safety and ensured that the zu'aan were never discovered by the kin'toni. This also involved masking the zu'aan scent using the chemicals that used to be stored in the warehouse. The hunting lords were a separate unit but they word cohesively with the main military.
It was mandatory for the Yerghans to serve at least one government term (which is 6 years) in the military. As time passed and the clan achieved stability, any kin'toni or zu'aan who asked to join the clan would first have to prove themselves by surviving with the military on dangerous hunting or recon missions for six months before they were accepted.
Religion
The Yergha had been formed by the kin'toni with no place to go when the kin'toni infection struck the city. They created their own religion long before the Voont arrived in the city, however, like all of the other clans in the city, they also followed the Voont’s H’lla religion. Despite the fact that the kin'toni were incredibly strong and genetically superior, their life was not easy. Their religion gave them something to believe in. The city had had a solid structure, but years of low maintenance had ruined the buildings. Moreover, they did not have access to electricity or tap water, or any of the luxuries they brought. Their technology was stuck in the stone ages, especially without assistance.
However, the Voont clan made life a little more comfortable for all the clans in the city. Their ideals and religion taught them to be kind and giving and that resonated in good will with the entire city. Thus, when the Voont started practicing H’lla, the Parakk clan did as well, and the other clans in the city eventually followed, whether weeks or decades later. H’lla gained so many followers that a major temple was created near the border of the Voont territory near the forest. The major temple had priests from every clan, practicing H’lla and praying to the goddess H’llaya all year round.
However, apart from the priests, no one was allowed to enter or leave the temple throughout the year. This was because consuming blood one days before entering H’llaya’s home was considered sacrilegious. This was why the temple needed so many priests, because other than Voont kin'toni, many kin'toni could not go more than two days without blood and thus the priests constantly rotated in and out of the temple to feed while maintaining the strength of the temple. The temple was open to the public only on the four holidays of the year – each of which was considered the start of a new season.
One these days, only one delegation of kin'toni travelled to the temple from each clan, to ask for guidance and protection for the next season. Thus, the main area of worship for the kin'toni were in the temples inside their territories. These temples were considered passages to the house of H’llaya and thus did not hold the same rules of fasting. Most clans developed their own system for worshipping in these smaller temples. The Yergha clan had converted some of their warehouses into extensive temples that were filled with idols of H’llaya and of extensive artwork made out of broken pieces of multiple materials.
All of the idols and artwork inside the temple was made by the Voont kin'toni. The artwork was out of respect for their own religion, that worshipped G’uul. G’uul was the god of fixing broken things and making them either beautiful or useful. The initial Yergha desperately needed the support of being accepted by their god. However the Yergha clan eventually gained power, their religion remained.
Miscellany
The Yergha clan had faced some of the most hardship compared to all the other clans in the city. The Xarte had a sad origin story, but they had been protected in the walls of their school and by their massive numbers. The Yergha knew what it meant to be abandoned on the streets, left to fend for oneself with no help. They had been rejected by all the other clans in the city and had almost died. They never wanted something like that to happen again. Once the stabilised, they tried to reach out to the parakk, but to no avail.
The Parakk kin'toni clan had already taken a down trodden group in and decided to protect them, they did not want more lives on their hands as they could not possibly protect so many people while also maintaining the security and strength of their own clan. they also needed people to hunt. This led to them turning every other clan away, both Xarte and Yergha. The Yergha clan had nothing to begin with. The other clans had chosen more habitable areas like old zu'aan homes, or areas that had access to resources, such as the forest. The Yergha clan only had the uncomfortable warehouses.
But soon they realised they had a valuable resource – a lot of ample space that could not be looked into from the outside. They also realised the best way was simply to steal from the established clans until they had enough members to hunt for themselves. They began hunting and storing zu'aan from other clans in their city. That was when they realised something important. They could store the zu’aan. They also learned how to heal the zu'aan by learning the work of herbs from the Voont. They learned how to coax them out of their fear and get them comfortable enough to reproduce.
They decided to create an elaborate system where they could store zu'aan. They knew that they had to prepare for the future. Unlike the rest of the clans, they knew how to plan for the future and they knew that the zu'aan population was declining. They did not want to take the risk of depending on evolution to save them when there were not enough zu'aan to feed on, so they took matters into their own hands. It was very important to the success and peace of the city that the other clans did not understand where the Yergha had such a steady supply of kin'toni blood from.
The Yergha had an entire department that was devoted to making the zu'aan who stayed in the warehouse comfortable. They dyed their skin black using soot so that the zu'aan could move around the territory freely without being spotted by the other clans. They also asked the Voont to make beds and other furniture so that there was enough for the zu'aan. This lead to the Parakk thinking the Yergha had a massive population.
