Llyth Kin'toni Clan
History
The Llyth are fierce warriors that are among the few warrior clans that have been able to transition from a time of blood and battle to one that involves administration. As the pioneer clans’ council rose, many of the warrior clans that had been responsible for the winning of the land that is currently controlled by the Ashat nation, were disbanded and replaced by clans that were more suited to the ruling duties that the vast citizenry and land holdings required.
In this way the Llyth have set a place apart from themselves, not only are they a recognised warrior clan, and members of the most powerful decision making body present on the plains of Erea, they are also skilled at warfare and are able to offer stiff resistance to even the likes of the Fa’aka of the Adon Kingdom. The Llyth are in fact the parent clan of the Galaka as well, and the reverence of the Galaka for the nation of Ashat is an inherited trait among the Galaka from the Llyth clan.
Their bloodlines are the same, however, the Galaka’s time in the Drylands has essentially changed their psychology as well as their biology, but even in appearance, the Galaka can easily be traced to the Llyth kin'toni clan. Prior to the formation of the Pioneer clans’ council, the Llyth were mobilising and leading large kin'toni forces to secure land from the zu'aan, and their true ascendancy into the annals of history can be said to be due to the role the clan played in securing the Ser’vor forest steppes, not only were these lands densely defended, they were strategically very important.
Several clans had prior to the Llyth been given the opportunity to try and dislodge the zu'aan from the steppes, and the task was not accomplished. There is no single reason as to why the clans before the Llyth had been unable to defeat the zu'aan armies and take over the region but rather there are several important reasons why the act could not accomplished. The first being the sheer size of the region, even today, the steppes are the largest province of the Ashat nation, and not only is it the largest but it is also several times larger than the other provinces.
Besides the size, the area had been densely populated with the zu'aan, there were at least a dozen large cities that had been built on the steppes, and any attempts to take any one of the cities was severely opposed by their combined armies. The coalition of cities that occupied the steppes also had access to fortifications that they had built over centuries, pairing that with the fact that the Steppes did not have any cover for the kin'toni to safely retreat to during the day meant an arduous and near impossible campaign.
The Llyth turned the campaign on its head not only with the skill of their arms but also with the innovation of their wisest leaders, not to mention the positive and dedicated focus they turn upon all their projects.
Psychology
A good indication of the kind of mental composition the Llyth are party to can be traced from the impossible nature of the act that propelled them to great heights and essentially made them one of the ruling clans in the world. The Llyth have a long history of warfare, however, prior to the breaking of the steppe cities, they were relatively unheard of, and for the time this does not indicate a lack of talent or even intelligence but rather opportunity.
At the time the clan was raised, it was a chaotic time for the world, the kin'toni had only just begun the open warfare that led to breaking down of the Xerea Empire, and kin'toni were at the time converting whole platoons of the zu'aan soldiers on their own in the dead of the night. The Llyth are certain to be one of the company of soldiers that were transformed in the dark of the night by a singular capable kin'toni. The converted Llyth took their time to stabilise themselves in the fast changing world.
And instead of rushing head long into battle for the other regions, they instead chose to withdraw and examine their powers and abilities. At the time, there was still very little co-ordination among kin'toni, and they were mostly being controlled by large warlords that had either risen to the position through accident or sheer will. Newly turned kin'toni were anxious to win honour and secure an important place in the hierarchy by rushing headlong into battle in order to impress and draw the attention of their higher-ups.
The Llyth however proved that they were neither short sighted and neither were they impatient by taking their time at understanding the new political landscape of the world. The Llyth displayed their cool composure under life threatening circumstances by choosing to not participate in the wars during the initial day and instead withdrawing to the village that they had once called home as zu'aan. The small village formed on the edges of the steppes, they turned all on their own without requiring the support of the warlords of the time.
They were only able to achieve the feat due to their intimate knowledge of the people as well as the geography of the region. In turning their old home into a kin'toni town, they were able to secure a safe haven in the confines of which they formed the ethos that has guided them through all the long years, in addition their military history allowed them to apply their new abilities in effective means. The kin'toni drilled for several decades in the confines of their town as the world around them continued to burn.
At the time they were forced to fight off invading kin'toni as well as zu'aan but given their remote location, their contact with the outside world was limited. The founders of the clan claim till today that the village they first settled in was the only reason that they were to gain such impressive heights of power.
Biology
Theirs is the biology of the purest predator, the Llyth are the prime of the kin'toni biology, and over the years they have come to represent the ideal build of kin'toni, whether they be warrior or not. It is remarked that when the zu'aan were trying to create super soldiers, they were most likely envisioning something that looked remarkably close to the Llyth kin'toni warrior. They are not truly unique from the other kin'toni, but unlike the other kin'toni that have adapted to the remarkable conditions of their physical environment.
The Llyth on the other hand have evolved more to their chosen role rather than the environment. This is most likely due to the fact that they spent those initial years of their transformation in training for war rather than actually committing to it. In this way, their body and minds were able to adapt to the abilities of kin'toni kind quite well and much better than the kin'toni of the other clans. Now, this feature seems to have become a part of their DNA and is passed on by means of their blood even to the newly created kin'toni.
It is difficult to describe how exactly the Llyth differ from the kin'toni of other similarly famed kin'toni clans like the Daera or Fa’aka of the Adon Kingdom. Although, it is a testament to the strength of the Llyth that none of the warriors of the Adon Kingdom have ever claimed that the Llyth should be unseated from their place of leadership, a remark they have made for nearly all other clans that have found themselves in power. If we were to conduct physical trails of the kin'toni of the Llyth clan with those from other clans.
We wouldn’t detect any differences in physiology but in performance the Llyth would most certainly hold an edge. There are various theories as to why the Llyth are able to physically out do the other kin'toni clans, and most of them have to do with the diet they were exposed to during the initial years and not mention the psychological relief they had in being able to occupy their old homes even as kin'toni. Most kin'toni that are asked about the initial years of their transformation often talk about the difficulty they faced in relaxing.
And this has been traced to the changes that are taking place over the body and the uncertainty of the time as well when there were just as many kin'toni that were killed as were born as most of the newly created kin'toni were pushed headlong into war even before they had a full understanding of what they had become. In these terms the Llyth were able to develop not only physically but also mentally in the safety of their little village, which they continue to hold as important and regularly visit during the times they are able to return.
Indicating a reverence for their past as well as a certain humility, as they return to a place devoid of luxuries when their peers are steeped in it. They have red with irises with black sclera and a vertical slit pupils in their eyes.
Culture
They are warriors through and through, beyond being just warriors, the Llyth are essentially soldiers. They are driven, hard working, resourceful and function like a true team of kin'toni. Their teamwork is exemplary and forms the strength of their method of warfare even in the present times when the tactics they had developed occupy a mainstay of most armies. The kin'toni of the Llyth clan have developed the kin'toni shield and spear blocks, they are very similar to those of the zu'aan soldiers in the Xerea Empire.
But they were modified by the kin'toni of the clan to better fit the faster and stronger body of the kin'toni. Even today, the other clans that employ the same tactic are not quite able to mimic the skill of the Llyth, the Galaka are perhaps the only clan that have a technique that rivals the Llyth but they cannot be truly considered separate from the Llyth clan as they are not only related in good but also in practice of their culture. The Llyth believe in honour and wisdom just as much as the Galaka if not more, their whole society within the clan is based around living with honour and acting only with certainty.
Newly created kin'toni of the Llyth clan spend a lot longer studying warfare and administration than the other kin'toni, and this is mostly due to the centuries old tradition of having a kin'toni understand their body fully before having them move on to fighting. The Llyth fight simply but their skill with the weapons rivals the most skilled fighters of Erea, even the Oola would probably think twice before engaging one of the horns of the Llyth clan. The Llyth fight with the shield and spear in a team and switch to a shield and one sword when fighting alone.
The Llyth society is organised into horns that are teams of about 30 kin'toni, these horns are then organised into stacks which consist of 10 horns. At present there are 5 stacks of the Llyth, and they are constantly being sent to the battlefront in turn so as to ensure that their role as administrators of the land does not lead to the dulling of the skills as warriors. Their renown on the battle field is such that most kin'toni armies will immediately had control over to the commanders of the Puvesir Military college,
As the kin'toni trained by the Fa’aka are perhaps the only kin'toni that can rival the Llyth in the field of battle. The Llyth clans kin'toni warrior stacks are only sent to the battlefronts that are facing the most severe of problems. They are not required to remain in battle for too long since their role as administrators of the whole kingdom is far more important than the resolution of one of the several battlefronts that the Ashat government has active at one time or another, but even so once a stack of the Llyth is deployed, it is rare for the stack to be withdrawn until the fighting has subsided.
Government
The Llyth are part of the Junta that handles the martial aspects of the Ashat nation, not to mention they are the only warrior clan that is part of the Ashat pioneer clans’ council. By definition, the Llyth are the warrior overlords of the armies of the Ashat nation, but they refuse the title and instead lead a council of warrior and solider clans that report to the clans’ council in all matters and sets the objectives and missions of the armies of the clan. The Llyth are assigned the role of not only leading the junta, but they are also in charge of the law and order of the land.
While the Junta, of which the Llyth are perhaps the most important member, the Llyth are also required to ensure that the law and order situation of the provinces that fall within the nations boundaries are resolved. The role relating to the law and order of the situation in the nation, does not quite involve as much work as one would expect, since most of the day to day problems that relate to law and order are dealt by the police forces that the provinces are mandated to keep in accordance with the decrees of the Ashat Pioneer clans’ council.
Instead the Llyht are only required to deal with the larger problems that relate rebellion and anarchy. There haven’t been a lot of such instances wherein the Llyth were required to actively intervene in order to resolve such an issue. This is because most of the time, acts of rebellion are dealt with much more quickly by the clan before the general public becomes aware of what had transpired. Most recently though there has been an instance in which the kin'toni of the clan were required to deploy in full view of the whole kingdom and in force.
One of the few times when four of the five stacks were sent into battle formations along with the army of the Ashat nation. This was at the time of the Adon mission that had been sent to the Tamor Drylands in order to treat with the Galaka. It was a tense few days for the kin'toni in the neighbouring provinces of the Dryalnds, as many of the kin'toni had thought that the situation would most certainly end with a civil war that would pit the finest warrior clans of the Ashat nation against one another.
However, if one were to speak with the kin'toni of the clan about the matter, they are among the most certain that the situation would not have involved a war with the Galaka as the opposition. The Llyth claim full confidence in the kin'toni of the Galaka clan, and instead emphasise that the show of strength was not to threaten the Galaka but rather a message to the Adon mission into the territory and to clearly indicate that the intervention into the matters of the Ashat nation would not be something that would be taken lightly or something that would be easily forgiven.
Military
As stated in the earlier sections, the kin'toni are trained in the use of the spear and the long sword along with the shield with the both of the methods of fighting. Their society as well as the army is organised into stacks, the live, fight and die in the horns of a stack. The 30 kin'toni that make up the horn of the army, which is essentially the smaller unit of organisation in the structure of the Llyth clan, the kin'toni are closer to family and would gladly die for one another.
It would be unfair to state that the Llyth have been particularly successful in the domain of warfare due to their closeness, as there are other clans of warriors that are just as close if not closer to one another. Nonetheless, the team work that the kin'toni display in battle is impressive and certainly one of the difficulties for those that engage them in battle. The kin'toni of the Llyth clan move as if they are possessed by a singular mind, and do not resort to drums and sounds in order to keep time with one another.
It is truly an awe-inspiring sight to watch the silent March of the Llyth clan’s stacks. This prowess in battling as a singular is undoubtedly due to the several hundred hours of practice the kin'toni have committed to the same skill and the fact that they are able to mind meld with one another so well. There are other kin'toni clans that fight well in a group but they are left behind by the capabilities of the Kin'toni of the Llyth clan, who are able to enter group thinking states very easily and very quickly.
This harmony with one another means that the kin'toni of the clan are able to shift and move around threats that would have otherwise broken through an ordinary block. This feature is one that is shared by the armies of the clan of the Galaka who share not only blood but several practices with the Llyth. Besides their ability to function really well as a team, the kin'toni are most certainly gifted with a much more thorough body awareness. And perhaps this is the feature is the reason why the kin'toni are so successful in both inside and outside it as well.
The kin'toni of the Llyth clan are not only faster in response times but their sward strokes and their spear thrusts are more powerful. Obviously, there are other kin'toni clans that can throw weapons harder and can be quicker as well, but these warriors are left behind by the Llyth due to their momentous athletic ability. They have an amazing understanding of their physical capabilities and as such they are able to apply just the right amount of energy to accomplish the task, paired with their calm demeanour and sharp intellect.
It is easy to understand why the Llyth were able to succeed where so many kin'toni have failed and why they continue to be one of the most respected clans in the whole of the nation.
Religion
The Llyth like most of the other pioneer clans are some of the most devout kin'toni in the whole world, their discipline and love for the Eyeless god is peerless. Every single day, all members of the Llyth clan can be found in the temples of the Eyeless god that are found in the Jau Jungle Hills, both at sunrise and sunset. In the olden times, the sun was worshipped as its reflection came to land on the central pool of the temple, and there were certain devices that were found in the temples that allowed the devotees to not only track the movement of the sun in the heavensm but also throughout the day.
When the kin'toni adopted the Eyeless god as their patron, there were several years when they were still unable to bear the sight of the sun without being exposed to mortal harm. Many devotees thought about how they would bring about the direct prayers of the god, the rituals for these prayers had been transcribed from those that had known of the religion in the past times. Although, it was not a particularly dominant religion at the time of waning of the Xerea Empire, it was still one of the religions that was recognised by the seat of the zu'aan emperor.
The records of those people that witnessed the religion and its practice were clear that the religion was meant to be practiced through the direct worship of the sun, which is the form the Eyeless god has adopted for the sake of the mortal realm. For those that wish to be liberated from the anguish of life and embrace the all consuming love of the Eyeless god, it is essential that they witness the rising and setting of the god’s form. The Llyth were one of the most important clans as far as the religion of the Eyeless god is concerned.
Since they were among the first clans that helped install the apparatus that allows for the kin'toni to bear the sight of the sun. For this reason alone, the temples of the Eyeless god pay special homage to the kin'toni of the Llyth clan. The device that the kin'toni of the Llyth clan built was essentially based on the same principle as that of the original temples, but in the temples that have been built by the kin'toni, they involve the use of scattering lenses that are carefully polished and grated.
Made of minerals the lenses help in dispersing the strong rays of the sun, and they are especially effective during the rising and the setting of the sun since the rays pass through a lot of the atmosphere before hitting the lens itself and in that travel a lot of the sun’s potential is dispersed so that it may not affect the kin'toni as much as the light of the midday sun. The lens of course is not sufficient alone when trying to lower the effect of the sun’s rays, and there need to be other filters that further dampen the effect of the sun.
Miscellany
The temples made after the rise of the kin'toni differ significantly from the temples that were constructed by the zu'aan in the times past, while the temples of old had gaps throughout their roof that allowed the sun to reach throughout the temple without being interfered with. On the other hand, the temples that have been constructed by the kin'toni, instead they have a singular rectangular gap in the roof of the temples, and by the use of pulleys and levers the roof can be rotated.
The pulleys are used to move the roof of the temple in order to ensure that the setting and rising sun rays are able to pass through the pane that has been chosen for the purpose. The Llyth were able to devise a complex system of lenses and filters that has been proven to be safe for the kin'toni of the religion of the Eyeless god. The thick lens that is carefully cut and shaped in order to ensure that the most powerful of the rays are prevented from passing and are instead passed back out.
Behind the first thick lens is a much thinner lens that collects the rays that have passed through the first and concentrates it to a singular point, so that the reflection of the sun can be carefully formed. The second lens is coloured as well, with the pigment of the Greenwood trees that are found in the Jau Jungle Hills. This pigment is an important ingredient, with experimentation, it has been proven that the green coloured lens is much less harmful than the other coloured lenses.
The two lenses are closely packed into the rectangular pane and pasted together tightly into the gap and cemented into place with a mixture of mud, limestone and sand. The mixture is delicate enough that it doesn’t damage the lenses even during the drying process. Other adhesives have caused disasters in the past, wherein during their drying process, they formed minute cracks into the lenses which allowed the unfiltered light within the confines of the temple, and causes grevious injury to the kin'toni that had been present.
The light that passes through the two lenses that are packed into the rectangular gap is then passed into the central chamber of the temple. The whole central chamber is covered by a thin cloth woven by the most skilled weavers of the Zelan kingdom, the cloth that is suspended over the whole chamber is translucent and is the final barrier for the sun light that passes through the cloth and finally falls into the central pool. Within the pool the image of the sun is enlarged tinged a thin green colour.
The more zealous of the devotees have their bodies marked by the sun as they pass through the singular point of the sun ray that is enlarged by the central water pool found in the temple. They can be identified by circular burns that form on their bodies, most of these devotees have the mark on the back of their hand but there are others who have the same marks on their forehead and some even on their eyelids.
