Yoush Kin'toni Clan
History
It had been known that the Yoush clan were conservative and very prejudiced. They believed that they and their ways were better than any of the other clans. This was because they had always lived this way. They were used to getting their way when it came to arguments while they were still zu’aan and this seemed to only amplify as they were turned into kin’toni. This was something that other clans didn’t like, as when the Yoush clan was visiting them, they would preach about how their ways were better, and how they were better then the other clans overall.
Because of this, the other clans would end up becoming quite murderous as they didn’t like being talked down to, and so they would draw weapons and kill members of the Yoush clan. While this happened often, it never seemed to be enough to deter the Yoush clan from talking down to other clans. They didn’t think that their members getting murdered meant that they should be nicer, and so they would continue to talk down to other kin’toni. As time went on, the Yoush clan was left out of meetings, trades, and other events where clans would have to meet together.
They had been left with only a few clans that were willing to trade with them and communicate with them because of the way that they were, and the way that they would talk. This was something that didn’t bother them as they were able to meet their own needs individually, and the clans that they did have contact with were there as alliances and to help with minor needs, or otherwise things that they could live without. These clans held the same beliefs as them, ensuring from the beginning that they were able to get along, and that was something the Yoush clan liked about them.
Because of their bond, they would frequently send their members to the other clans, just as the other members would come to them. This essentially joined their clans, and made it so that they would each offer aide and services to the other clans when they felt it was needed. This meant that when needed, the Yoush clan had back up from other clans. Their army was larger, their government, more structured. They were able to meet the needs of each of their kin’toni, and their lived were made no harder because they only had a few trade partners.
The Yoush kin’toni were a strong clan, living in wood huts that were scattered around their village. They would each live in their own, either as a family, or truly by themselves as they were always under the belief that their privacy was important to them. When they would have clan meetings, they would congregate outside, or they would meet in their town hall, which was a tall wooden building, one that was only used for important matters. Because of the way that they lived, the members of the Yoush clan were quiet when they were within their village.
They would watch quietly until they would have to speak, and so there were many days that were spent in silence.
Psychology
Since the Yoush clan were so prejudiced, they were often subject to each other’s scrutiny. There were many times when members of the clan would judge others, and it would lead to verbal altercations within the clan. These would last for a long while as neither of the members that were fighting would believe that they were wrong in the way that they felt. They would refuse to apologize first, and the fights would often last until someone from the government stepped in and told them to make nice with each other. While they wouldn’t want to be nice.
They would eventually realize that their officials were right, and that for the betterment of the clan, they should be getting along. Because of their conservative ways, they would wear very covering clothes, and they would not talk openly with anyone about their issues and challenges. This meant that they would wait until they were alone with their family, or they would deal with their issues on their own. The members of the Yoush found it humiliating when they would find out that someone had overheard their conversation and knew about it.
They would do their best to act as though that was okay, but they wouldn’t be happy about it. Many times, they would ensure that they weren’t being listened to, by going to their religious leaders and talking about their problems there, knowing that there would be no chance that another member would be able to overhear what they were talking about. This was because many times they would go on long walks through their religious leader of choice, and they would talk while they were walking. This ensured that no one was following them while they were walking.
And when there was a need for someone to come and get them, they would be able to stop their conversation with more than enough time to ensure that they wouldn’t be heard. Religious officials were kept under a strict oath to ensure the safety and privacy of the clan. They were not allowed to talk about what they were being told unless it came down to being a matter of life or death, or there was a strict medical emergency. This meant that no matter how bad the thing was they were being told, they weren’t allowed to openly talk about it with anyone that wasn’t the person telling them.
If they needed to gather advice from another official, they would have to ask for strict permission before doing so, and they would only be able to talk to that one other kin’toni. This was something that happened often, and the members of the Yoush clan knew that they could trust their religious officials to keep their information safe and secure. If there ever was a time when trust was broken, the official would be immediately stripped of their title, and they would be sent out of the clan as they were no longer able to be trusted.
Biology
Since they were so conservative, it was hard to tell what the Yoush clan looked like aside from their faces, and the colour of their skin. It was easy to see that they were tall and that they weren’t necessarily overweight, but it couldn’t be seen if they had muscles, or if they had scars or marks. This was because they would wear thick robes and other garments that would keep their bodies covered, ensuring that there would be no way to tell what they looked like underneath. This was how they liked it to be as they didn’t want other kin’toni to see their bodies, and thus judge them on it.
While they were quite prejudiced and formed their opinions with the intent to keep them, they still would not take lightly to being judges simply on the way their bodies looked. They hoped that their personalities would be enough to secure friends, trades, and other partnerships that were needed for them to survive. What could be told just by looking at them was that they had deep blue eyes that looked like the ocean. They had white specks in their eyes that seemed to float around with their own free will, and it made their eyes look as though they were filled with stars.
Having eyes such as these made it easy for other kin’toni to approach the Yoush clan. The look of their eyes making it seem as though they would be more than friendly enough to talk to. However, this did not end up being the case. When other kin’toni would engage with them, the Yoush clan would start with their judgment, and quickly the charm of their eyes would be lost. Another thing that could be seen was their hair. Their hair was medium length and a brassy yellow colour. It was thick like straw and was a start contrast to their tanned skin.
They would wear their hair up in buns, or if it was too short, they would braid it back against their heads. This was done so that they were able to focus on what it was that they needed to do, and so that they wouldn’t have to worry about their hair getting in the way. Because of the way they wore their hair, there would be other clans that would seek to copy their style, liking what they saw, and wanting to implement it in their own clans. While this was something that happened often.
The Yoush clan would not try to have their style be something that was copied, and so they would end up becoming embarrassed or even frustrated that there were other clans that would copy them. Since they didn’t like the way that other clans would copy them, thinking that they were being mocked out made fun of, they would stop talking to them and leave, or they would end up starting a fight so bad that they would be killed.
Culture
Culturally, the Yoush clan was different from many other clans. While they did have things that they would do that were the same as other kin’toni (hunting, meals, religious gatherings) there were other things that the clan would do that were different. They had a day where they would celebrate their changing into kin’toni, and while there were clans that did this as well, the Yoush clan would do it differently. They would lock themselves in their homes, and they would starve themselves for the day, doing so to ensure that they were hungry by the time they got out.
Initially, they had done so because they felt bad for being changed into kin’toni and they didn’t like the way that they felt. However, over time they had started to hold themselves off from eating throughout the day until they were so hungry that they would consider eating each other. At this point, they would be allowed to come out of their homes so that they could go and hunt. Once they had taken off, they would have until sunrise to return, and they would not have a limit on the amount of eating they would be allowed to do. Many would take their sweet time, ensuring that they got to drink the blood of many zu’aan.
While others would take one victim and then decide to return to their village.
They were only allowed to do this once a year, and as soon as the sun rose, they were to stop and be back in their homes. Any kin’toni that weren’t in their homes by the time the sun rose would be banished from the clan on the premise that they weren’t to be trusted. On the other days of the year, they would only be able to eat the food that was rationed to them, and this would be decided by the government to ensure they were all getting the same amount of blood.
Another thing that they would do that was different from the other clans, was that when they had reached their older age, they would have to learn how to braid each other’s hair on request. This was because they didn’t have the coordination to braid their own hair, and because they had more unique styles, they would have to know how to do them in others hair. Usually, this would be done by the women, as their hands were smaller, and they would have better dexterity, and so they would be able to do the braids better than the men would.
Because of the ways that they would braid hair, they would have to learn quickly so that they could do the hair of multiple kin’toni before they would be able to call their day done. Since some were able to braid better than others, they would be stuck back at the village so that they could do hair throughout the day, and that would be their job.
Government
Because of the way that they were structured, the members of the Yoush clan were subject to a conservative government as well. They would make their laws so that they were able to focus on what her clan needed, but also to keep them safe. They had at least one other clan that they were close with, and so they would go back and forth between the two of the clans. They would do so that they could ensure that they were getting the supplies that they needed. They would frequent each other clans so that they were able to have what they needed, and give what they didn’t need as well.
When there were laws that were broken, there would be one of two punishments chosen. Usually, the punishment that would be chosen would be jail time. This was the most common punishment chosen as it meant that they would be able to lock the members away and make them think about what it was that they did to land them in jail. If jail didn’t work, they would be given one chance to explain themselves, and if they weren’t able to do so in a way that was convincing, they would be sent out of the clan.
In being banished, they wouldn’t be able to join back into their own clan, or the other clans that they had entered into alliances with. As soon as they were banished, there would be a group of kin’toni that would go around to each of the clans that they were partnered with, and they would ensure they knew that they weren’t allowed into the clans. If they were to show their faces after they were banished, they would be chased off by the other members of the clan. It didn’t matter how much they missed their friend, they would have to chase the member off to they would face banishment as well.
Some of the laws that they had were also in place to ensure that they were safe, and these were in place because they needed to ensure when they were travelling, they wouldn’t start fights, or draw attention to themselves. One of their reasons for hating when their lives weren’t private was that other kin’toni could use that to humiliate them, and so they would try to keep their lives private, especially from other clans. This meant that they wouldn’t want other clans to talk about them, and so if they did, they would start to pick apart their lives and that wasn’t something they wanted to do unless they had to.
Another reason that they wanted to keep their information to themselves was so that if there was anything that the other clans could use against them would be hidden, and so they believed that would keep them safe so long as they were able to keep their information out of the ears of other clans.
Military
Aside from starting fights, there wasn’t much of a military within the Yoush clan. They didn’t believe that they should have to go into battles for any reason, as the slaughter of people wasn’t something that appealed to them. The one thing that they did do was have regular fights with other kin’toni, as that was how they decided that they would get over their frustration. Other times, they would choose to ignore each other instead of engaging in fighting, and those fights would last until they were told that they needed to stop them so that they could go back to doing what they needed to.
Sometimes, they would have to be removed from each other because they were fighting physically, and they would each be put into the jail so that they could calm down. This was also so that there was no way that they would be able to continue fighting no matter how hard they tried. Since they didn’t have much of a military, they would do what they could to send their members that were good with fighting down to the clans that they had alliances with so that they could help out as much as they could. This was something that they did often as they would consistently be requested to send help to the other clans.
If there was ever a time that they needed the help themselves, they would ask for help from the other clans, that way they would be able to have their help so their small army would become a large one. They would be able to have a strong front, and so they would be able to defeat whichever enemy they came up against. When they did have to go to fight, they would wear chain mail amour that they had been given to them by one of the other clans. As well, they would wield swords and shields, although there were some that were better with their bows and arrows.
They would present a strong front, and they would so as best they could to ensure that they brought their best face to the clan that they were helping. While they didn’t like to fight, when the other clans would request, the would gladly send their small army down to do training so that they could ensure that they would be able to fight as a group. This was good for the Yoush clan as they needed to structure that came with listening to the other clans leaders telling them what they needed to do.
While they were conservative, they would do what they could to put their best effort into fighting on behalf of the other clans. They would strive to ensure they would blend in, and in doing so, they would make sure that the clans that they would be fighting wouldn’t know that they were from different clans. This would usually work, and as soon as they were done with their battles, they would go back to their own village and get back to their own routines.
Religion
While the Yoush clan believed that they would have to cover their bodies to keep them from being seen, they didn’t do so for any sort of religious reasons. Instead, they did it because they didn’t want any other clans knowing anything about them unless they were able to control it, as they didn’t like not being in control of what others were perceiving of them. While there had been times when the clan had wanted to follow a different religion, they found that most of the ones that they wanted to try were ones that would require they change their ways, and that was not something that they wanted to do.
Instead, they decided that they would take a religion that mostly suited what they wanted, and they would change it so ensure that they were able to live their lives the way that they wanted to. While they didn’t believe in a set god, they didn’t have to worry about praying as they believes that their religious leaders would do so for them. When they had issues, they would go to their religious leaders and they would talk to them about any issues that they did have, and they would do so because they knew that they could trust their leaders to keep their information to themselves.
When they would need advice, they would have to give their leader their permission so that they could do what they needed to do, but they would only be able to talk to other religious leaders to get their information, and this would ensure that the information didn’t spread too far as the leaders were kept under an oath to keep their secrets unless they needed to tell.
The only reason they would be able to tell on someone for something that they were told was if it was a matter of life and death, or if there was a serious medical emergency.
Otherwise, if there wasn’t a reason for them to tell, and they did, they would be sent out of the clan and they would be shunned entirely. It would be widely known that they weren’t to be trusted, and it would be spread through their alliances that the religious leaders had betrayed the trust of the clan. Aside from their religious leaders, there were no reasons for them to have their religion be something that they would listen to often. They would go through their days believing that they could just do whatever they wanted to, and they would only need to think of their religion when they needed something from it.
They would spend their time going about their days, and when they needed something, they would go and talk to their religious leaders and ask them for what they needed. While this was something that they did, it was also something that the leaders didn’t like that they did. They knew that they were the only ones that would participate filly, no matter how much they tried to change that.
