Wasteland creatures, wandering nomadic tribe, hunters

History

Originally manual workers in a large factory unit in the urban areas, this tribe were struck by the kin’toni disease and forced to flee from the city into the depths of the wastelands, as the military had been sent in to neutralise them once news of the spread of the disease in the factory unit was known. Although they had started to feed on victims in the city that had not yet had time to fully organise themselves in their new manifestation or gain adequate skills and strength in the art of hunting, so it was very easy for the military to disperse them from the factory unit which they were hiding out in.

Immediately once the militia were upon them the Yogoru clan knew that their only course of action was to escape as quickly as possible. They went deep into the wilderness outside the city outposts and found a home for themselves in ramshackle and abandoned buildings, feeding off the odd stray zu’aan. It wasn’t long before more militia were sent out to attempt to eradicate them and so the tribe moved on again and this is pretty much how their lives have been ever since. Always on the move, never staying in the same place for long, fearful that any zu’aan authorities may hunt them down and destroy them for once and for all.

They have used their skills of working with machinery and constructed things out of iron to make incredible weaponry and have etched out an amazing career for themselves creating custom made weapons for other tribal members. They will often search far and wide for them to contract them to make custom weaponry for them. The Yogoru often seek out other tribes as well and sell their wares and skills to them. They travel through the wilderness, city outskirts and other tribal populated areas in search of clans to weaponise. They exchange their services for zu’aan blood which more stronger tribes are happy to give them in return for their wonderful weapons.

They have not been known to get involved in wars and are rarely attacked as they move around so much and can never be found by any tribes with violence in their minds. Apart from tools for crafting weaponry they have no possessions, they are not very good hunters, so haven’t even ever got much blood reserves worth invading them over. So they tend to successfully avoid incurring violence or aggravation upon themselves. Their early years of their near destruction and eventual escape from the city have taught them how to not only move around but also how to avoid capture and notice the tell tale signs of when an enemy is near or upon their trail.

They are an old tribe, but have never really experienced any great dramas or had any eventful moments during their existence. They have always strived to make better weaponry as this is their passion. They are artistic craftspeople and are happy to move from tribe to tribe, exchanging their skills for blood.

Biology

Their eyes have dark blue irises with white sclerae and horizontal slit pupils Average to well built creatures, before they became kin’toni, being factory workers and very physical beings they were quite fit, so their bodies have developed in this way. They have broad shoulders and strong arms and touch fingers from decades of working with iron, making weapons and hammering iron. They have high pain thresholds and good stamina and endurance. They do tend to sleep very heavily during the day when their work is done. Being non violent creatures they are comparatively calm and are not prone to bouts of aggression as they only hunt when vital.

Their breathing apparatus and other internal organs are quite silent and they do not make much noise at all, if any. Their blood is dark purple and like the consistency of treacle. Normally, an ordinary wound will heal within a minute for these creatures, though they have not built up an endurance for warring based injuries and so when in a combat situation can be destroyed quite easily. They can be destroyed by decapitations, being impaled with either wood or iron through the heart, being set fire to or being exposed to sunlight. They can only survive in direct sunlight for two minutes.

And if they do not get themselves underground they will catch burn to death. They sleep for a minimum of eight hours and fall into a state of deep unconsciousness. They do not dream. Their internal organs are hard and rubbery, though very soft inside. With force they can be pierced by foreign objects and weaponry. They are very fast creatures and very nimble, able to dart in and out of places quickly. They do not have great hearing but their eye sight is very keen. Amazing sense of touch in their fingertips, heightened from their craft of weapon making. They have more of athletic strength rather then a power strength.

They cannot carry huge amounts of weight but have good balance from working and stamina levels are quite high. They can however be rendered unconscious easily and have no real tolerance for physical damage brought on by violence. Usually they are prone to nervousness during war or aggression moments and will run away as their physicality’s are rendered useless. They have a large appetite for zu’aan blood but their system does not need a huge amount before it has enough nutrients. They tend to require to consume smaller amounts but on frequent occasions. They have brilliant night vision and can see for a long distance.

They are partially deaf and can only hear close up, due to over use of heavy hammering on anvils and iron. They have very high energy, but become tired at the end of their night cycle and then fall into a deep sleep. They will fall unconscious suddenly. When they lack zu’aan blood they become very slow, physically and mentally.

Culture

They are a peace loving tribe who love to make weapons. The sacred art of blacksmithing is the most important thing they could ever think of and they will make many weapons when ever they find a peaceful domain to reside inbetween their nomadic travels. As they do not stay in the same place for too long, believing it to be safer that way. They will collect what they deem to be good solid iron upon their travels, looking for only the best materials to make some of the finest weapons they can. They have no worldly possessions apart from their weapon making tools and of course metal forges which they have made so that they can be transported.

They travel on foot but have constructed some wooden carts that have wheels. They keep their constructed weapons and smithing tools and forge on this cart. These wagons are hand pulled. They are weapons merchants and travel from tribal area to tribal area to sell their weaponry or even to take orders for custom made weapons that they will create there and then for whoever wants them. Their chosen currency which they like to deal in is of course zu’aan blood. They have no need for anything else. They are crafts people and make everything they need, including garments to wear.

They will sit together when it is getting close to sleeping time and entertain each other. During this time they will tell stories and sing songs of the old times before they were kin’toni. This way they keep their history alive. Although they do not really remember that time any more in their heads they have memorised the stories and songs and sing and talk them every night so that the old ways are not forgotten. They speak in great depth with each other regarding the art of weapons making and are always trying to come up with new skills pertaining to the subject and new ways to improve their craft.

Weapons crafting is the most important thing in the world to them. They are very respectful of one another and incredibly supportive. They congratulate each other when they believe they have made great work. Their ultimate goal is to the cerate those elaborate weaponry that will be world renown as the greatest piece of weapon art ever constructed by kin’toni hands. They avoid war and are not fighters, although they do practice the arts of swordplay and spear fighting. This is so they can understand the weapons they make more, test out what they have created and also celebrate the wonderful things they have made.

They would rather not fight for real and will do practically anything to avoid physical contact. The great weapon makers in the tribe are celebrated and are respected highly. They will stay in one location for a limited piece of time and when they leave will have it so clean that there is no trace they were ever there. This is called THE SMITH time and during this period they make many weapons. The period when are in-between dominions is called THE WANDERING time.

Government

They have not a use for many rules and laws as they do not fight, conflict with each other, steal from one another or cause any physical or mental damage to each other. They are a very respectful tribe. They have a selection of hierarchy called THE CHIEFTAINS and these are usually master craftsman, highly skilled and experienced weapons makers. They will make sure that they never run out of iron or materials for making of weapons. They also are in charge of allocating the iron amongst the people. The more highly skilled member will be given the higher graded iron.

As their work is more befitting such a high standard of raw materials and the lesser iron will be given to the lesser craftsman. This is also how they are rewarded when they do great work, by receiving the better materials. THE ELDER is the leader of the clan and THE CHIEFTAINS report to him on a daily basis regarding the process of the tribe. It is a very democratic clan and should they ever be faced with a weighty situation that requires a big decision to be made the entire tribe will sit around in a circle surrounding the chieftains. Who are also in a smaller enclosed circle, and inside them is the elder.

They will discuss the troublesome situation that the clan is faced with and devise the best course of action through a voting system. It is a slow process and every single voice in the clan will be heard. In this government all of the clan members are deemed to be equally as important as each other. Even the ones higher up on the chain are as important as the lower ones and vice a versa. Their entire system operates on mutual respect, patience and unity. The Elder is not allowed to pass any new laws without addressing the entire clan and would never even think of doing so.

They are not driven by the need for power and our only interested in what is best for the clan. The only penalty they have for any member of the clan to commit a crime against any other member is banishment. They call it a wrong doing as the word ‘crime’ is not in their vocabulary, as it does not exist within their tribe. No one has yet had to be banished. To even consider war the entire tribe must be assembled. The chieftains must describe the positive and negative effects of a potential war. The clan will vote individually over whether they will decide to war or not.

The Elder will preside over the ceremony, making sure that fairness is upheld during this time and all have their say. The Government aims to maintain fairness and equality amongst the entire tribe. The Elder is seen as a person who works for the tribe and not the other way round.

Military

How ever, they train on a daily basis. Partly so that they well prepared should they ever find themselves in the terrible position where there is no other option but to defend themselves, but also because they see the art of fighting and swordplay as a celebration of the wonderful weaponry they have created. It also gives them opportunity to see how good their weapons are or are not and then know how to improve them for the future and also when they visit tribes to sell their wares they can speek very honestly about their weaponry. The weapons that they make for their own purposes are more considered to be more artistic weapons.

And they tend to use thin long swords and spears, also of a very adequate length. The form of which they fight with these is quite acrobatic and also dance like. They do also make other weapons including long swords, short swords, cleavers, axes and shields and they will also train with these weapons, but mostly to test them out. Ironically they are mostly very skilled fighters but they prefer to run in the opposite direction of battle. For them it serves no purpose. They would split their warriors into three factions if war was absolutely necessary. They have the militia who are they infantry.

And they fight with swords and axe and other close range weapon. They will usually attack the enemy head on, then split and work on them from opposite ends in an effort to surround them and then overpower them that way. The long range warriors usually will fight with spears and poles. These will march into battle first, hunched down on the ground and then at the last minute drive their lengthy spears and javelins upwards aiming to cause as much damage as possible.

Another reason why they move forward on the ground is so that the third of their group, the archers can fire over their heads and onto the enemy. The archers are usually placed on higher vantage points. These two groups will work in tandem and their purpose is to break the enemies opening ranks apart, thus allowing room for the militia to drive into them. The Elder has studied many of the ancient scriptures regarding the art of war and strategy, so in a war scenario would be very capable of devising a highly intelligent and creative battle plan. This would be depending on many factors.

Such as the type of enemy they are up against, their number, the weapons they are using and fighting style, the weather and also the terrain. All these factors would be taken into account and a suitable plan devised. The rest of the tribe hold the mind of their elder in great regard and would allow him to devise what ever plan he saw fit and follow it to the letter. War is only an option they would face after every other possibility had run out.

Religion

THE ELDER is in many ways considered to be their spiritual leader and will often give advise on their emotional well being, both individually and as a group, as the tribe. They see themselves very much as a unit and in many ways they see the sword as a symbol of their spiritual unity and journey. They understand the way of opposites. They see the sword as both a thing of beauty and a thing of violence. They know that everything has light and dark, just as their existence as kin’toni is both a curse and also a blessing. It has given them their true calling as the creator of ancestral blades but it has also made them outcast.

And the destroyers of life. They see how all things are balanced in the most bizarre of fashions. They have a ceremony at the end of each day where the entire tribe will gather round and tell stories to each other and sing songs that have been written down since the days of old. In this time the Elder will also address them and will deliver a spontaneous story, often invented on the spot that will involve the teachings of the night that has been. Its soul purpose is to enlighten the entire tribe as to what their next move in their great journey may be. When they are wandering through the wastelands.

They will sleep beneath their wagons deeply buried in the ground and during this time the Elder and chieftains will sing and recite lyrics in spoken word as they bury themselves beneath this ground. They look for unity in this time as they are exposed. They believe that if they thank themselves and fate for the things that they do have right now then they will survive another day and be gifted with one more long night. They believe that they are on a great journey and that the outcome of this will be the creation of the great weapon, an artefact the like of which the world has never seen before.

The only greatness they seek is in the creation of beautiful weapons. They believe they it is a calling, but from where they do not know. When they have their ceremonies each will listen to every individual with great care and attention. They believe that respect and equality within the tribe helps them move forward upon their journey towards their higher goal in creating the ultimate weapon. They seek wisdom through understanding one another and believe that they all have the power to enhance each others wisdom through sharing their thoughts. When the Elder speaks all listen.

He is respected very highly and considered to have great intelligence and understandings of the ancient writings and ways.
