Kelnysi Kin'toni Clan
History
Since the Kelnysi clan lived on the mountain ridge, they had been experimenting with their immortality. They would do what they could to see what they could do. They believed that as long as they kept themselves away from anything that could kill them, that they would be safe. While it was known that the kin’toni were not immortal, just long lived, the Kelnysi clan continued to believe that they were. Eventually, as they began to die, it was made clear to them that they were not immortal.
Although watching their peers was hard for them to stomach, all it would make them think was that they had to continue to experiment to find out how they would be able to live forever. They believed that there was a specific cure that they could find that would allow for them to live forever. The members of the Kelnysi clan knew that they were able to be killed as easily as the zu’aan were, but they still believed that so long as they avoided anything that could kill them, that there was no reason that they couldn’t live forever. Because of this belief, the Kelnysi clan had barricaded themselves on the mountains, and they avoided any animals that they saw there.
No matter what, they would keep themselves inside of their small village, and this would ensure that they were kept as safe as they could be. However, they were not smart about this. The members of the clan were not as smart as they should have been if they were supposed to be avoiding death, this was made apparent by the fact that when winter hit the mountains, and there was snow, many kin’toni from their clan would forget to wear warm clothing and they would end up freezing to death. Although members were dying from their own stupidity, the other members wouldn’t do anything to change their own thought process so that they wouldn’t end up making the same mistake.
As time passed, the members of the clan started to fear the outside world. As kin’toni evolved and became stronger, the Kelnysi clan barricaded themselves further into the mountain. They chose not to socialize with other clans as they were scared that the other clans would find out that they were planning their immortality and would get jealous. When they did have to associate with other clans, they would make sure they didn’t spill any of their secrets. Eventually, the clan was so secluded in their madness that they would do anything to prove that they were in fact immortal.
They wanted to be the only kin’toni that would be allowed to live forever, and that was how they wanted it to be. They didn’t want anyone to catch on to what they were doing, and they had vowed that they would protect that information at any cost, including slaughtering any other kin’toni that questioned their plans to become immortal.
Psychology
Because of their heavy belief that they would be able to become immortal, the members of the Kelnysi clan were skittish and closed off. When they had started to think that they would be able to become immortal, they had realized that they would have to make themselves more closed off from the other clans that lived in the areas surrounding them. While there were no leaders of the clan at the time, the members had come together and decided that they would barricade their clan into the side of the mountain. As time went on, the Kelnysi clan started to go mad with the need to become immortal.
As well as with the fear that the other clans would catch on to their secret and would end up becoming immortal before them. This consumed everything they did, and every thought that they had. In knowing that they wanted to become immortal, the clan knew that they would have a lot of research to do in pursuit of this. It became everything they did, no matter what it was. Some of the highest regarded members of the clan were the ones that would keep themselves in their homes, away from even their own clan members. These members would sit in their houses and would refrain from doing much aside from drinking their blood rations and sleeping as they believed that they could preserve their lives, and that was how they would live forever.
Occasionally, other members of the clan would come to them and talk in hopes that they would be able to drink in some of their immortality. When members of the clan would pass away, the other members would take their bodies and bury them in the mountain in hopes that them passing away wouldn’t keep them from their immortality. It was widely believed that only the weak passed away, and so when they did, the other kin’toni wouldn’t grieve their deaths because they weren’t as strong as they should’ve been. The member was missed, but they were not able to actively grieve, as that meant that they were weak as well.
They were allowed to talk about the member that had passed away, especially if they were close to them, but usually the topic of conversation would end up being what that member had done through their lives that had caused them to become weak enough to pass away. In talking about the passed clan members, the rest of the clan would avoid anything that the other member did that had led them to pass in hopes that in avoiding it, that they wouldn’t pass away as well. They wanted to make sure that they would be able to live forever, so doing anything that the other members had done meant that they weren’t able to enjoy their lives as they should have been able to.
It caused them to live in fear of anything that they weren’t sure of, especially anything new. Eventually, they became so scared that they wouldn’t leave their barricade unless they were sending certain members to go and retrieve blood for them.
Biology
Because of their pursuit of immortality, and their need to be barricaded from other clans, the members of the Kelnysi clan were scrawny and malnourished. They weren’t eating as much as they should have been, and that caused them to lose weight rapidly. Because of their fear of the outside world as well as their fear of passing away, the members of the clan would only go out to get enough blood to sustain them until they needed more. They didn’t want to overindulge in eating as they thought that eating too much would kill them, just as not eating enough would also kill them.
Before they had become kin’toni, the Kelnysi clan were beautiful. They had long thick black hair that fell down their backs and over their shoulders until it reached their butts. Their eyes were a deep purple with black and white smears within their irises. This made their eyes look as though they were entirely marbled and gave them a unique look. Their skin was pale in color, and seemingly glowed in the moonlight as they walked around. They used to love their skin and had done everything they could to ensure that nothing would mark their skin.
After they had become kin’toni, they no longer cared about their skin, as they didn’t think that keeping your skin clean and healthy would keep them alive for longer. In fact, they believed that washing themselves was the main cause of them getting sick and passing away. They believed this was because they didn’t have enough of a barrier to keep unwanted germs out of their system. As time passed and they became more and more skinny from not eating, they believed that they were evolving and that their immortal forms would be skinny.
As they lost more and more weight, their legs and their arms began to look even more unnaturally long in proportion to their bodies. While their legs and arms were in proportion to their bodies, the loss of muscle tone allowed for them to look longer than they were. As well, their long hair lost its color, and it had started to fall out as they lost the nutrients that they needed to sustain it. Eventually their hair became sparse and grey, it now falling to just above their shoulders, and looked as though it was see-through. They no longer took care of their hair, and for many of the members of the clan, it was matted and filled with knots.
As time continued to carry on, more of the kin’toni within the Kelnysi clan started to die and they became scared of death. They resorted to anything that they could do to preserve themselves, including using zu'aan blood as moisturizer since it was what kept them live from the inside, so they had no reason to believe that it shouldn’t also keep them alive from the outside as well.
Culture
Since the Kelnysi clan believed that they could attain immortality, the entire clan was mad with the need to become immortal. Everything they did was in pursuit of this, and that caused them to live their lives in a very odd way. Their days were set up in a way that they would always know where they were supposed to be, and what they were supposed to be doing. They lived a very well-structured life so that there was no possible way that they would be putting themselves in harms way. The only kin’toni that were exempt from the routines were the ones that were constantly experimenting to see what would help them with their immortality.
This meant that they wouldn’t be able to follow a routine because each thing that they would try would keep them busy for different amounts of time. As the clan had been changed from zu'aan to kin’toni, they had gone through a huge culture shock in knowing that who they were was now different. While they were physically the same, the clan believed that the infection that had made them kin’toni had changed everything about them. They got talking amongst themselves and started to believe that since they had become kin’toni, that they should be able to be immortal as well.
As soon as it caught on within the clan, everything started to change. They began to build the wall around their village that they believed would be able to keep them safe from any animals or other kin’toni from harming them in any way. They had decided to cut off any and all trades with other clans, and they were no longer sending their members to meetings with other clans unless they had to. This meant that the clan would intentionally be keeping themselves secluded so that they would be able to pursue their immortality.
As they became more and more secluded and structured in their routines, they feared anything that could come as a surprise to them. If there was anything that messed with their routines, they would scramble to ensure that they could go back to the routine that they were following. They refused to embrace anything new as they thought that if they did, then they were dooming their pursuit of immortality, as well as putting their clan in harms way. Occasionally, there were times when other clans or even animals would break in through their barricades and in doing so, the Kelnysi clan would freak out.
They had never truly planned for anything breaking in, so when it happened, they would scramble to save themselves instead of protecting each other or even trying to make the animal or other clan leave. They would lock themselves in their houses and would wait until they were able to come back out. When they did, they would fix their barricade and then as soon as they could, they would go back to their routines.
Government
Within the Kelnysi clan, there weren’t a lot of laws in place. The ones that they did have were meant to keep themselves safe as individuals, but not as a clan. These laws were along the lines of locking themselves away so that they wouldn’t be killed when there were attacks on their clan. Aside from keeping themselves safe, they had other laws that ensured that they were as safe and as secluded as possible. As well, they decided that they would appoint a few of their members as the leaders of the clan. These members were chosen because they were the most dedicated to the immortality of the clan.
These leaders decided that they were the safest when they were barricaded in, and when they would only go out as they were needed. This meant that they were only allowing the collection of blood once every two weeks so that they could eat, and they weren’t going out more than what was needed. Once the members had gone out and come back, they weren’t allowed to be around the other members of the clan. They were to go right to their houses and stay there until they were needed again as they were exposed to the outside world, and that meant that they could have germs on them that could kill the other clan members.
As well, the members of the clan that were appointed to go and collect blood were also appointed to protect the leaders of the clan when they had to leave for any reason. While there were only two dozen members of the clan that were appointed to collect blood, the leaders of the clan believed that they would be dooming their clan if they were to sacrifice any more. Since there were so few members, they decided that they would live in the same building together so that they wouldn’t be alone while they were waiting to be sent out again. This also allowed for them to be able to plan out where they were going to go, and where had the best blood for them to drink.
While they were planning their blood collection, they would have to meet with the leaders of the clan to have their routes approved. In doing so, the leaders would know how much blood was supposed to be brought back, and so they could plan what they were going to do with all of it. Usually, they would make sure that each member had their fair ration, and then they would plan to use any left-over blood as moisturizer, or they would add it to a back up ration that they had s that they could stay back at the village for longer without having to go out.
Once the leaders had decided their laws and their plans for the clan, the only thing that would change them would be if there was an attack on their clan, and even then, they would only do what they could to ensure that they could go back to normal, instead of having to change much.
Military
As previously stated, the leaders of the Kelnysi clan had appointed two dozen members of the clan to retrieve their blood for them, as well as protect the leaders when they had to leave the clan. These members had been appointed the army of the clan and were essentially in charge of making sure that they could keep the leaders safe over everyone in the clan. Since the army had decided to live together, this had made it easier for them to talk to each other and had also taken a lot of the unneeded waiting time out of their routine. The were able to wake each other up as needed, as well as train at the same time and in the same space as each other.
Because they weren’t allowed to come out of their house, the members of the army were very close to each other. The Kelnysi army did everything together, as they were always together, and so they believed that they were their own little family. While the laws stated that they were supposed to protect themselves first in the event that there was an attack, the members of the army were exempt from this as their job was to protect the leaders of the clan. They weren’t allowed to assist any of the other members of the clan until it was known that all of the leaders were safe and unharmed.
If they were, the army would have to do what they could to ensure that the injured leader would be able to live. When any members of the clan passed away, it was the job of the military to dispose of their bodies, and to do so in a way that would make sure the other members were able to continue to search for their immortality. They would have to make sure that they buried the body far enough away that any animals that wanted to eat it were able to without posing a risk to the clan. They had to carry the body miles, and it would take them an entire day to carry out this job.
Since it was such a risky job, they had to make sure that every member of the army would go. Some would carry the body; others would have to keep watch to keep any animals away. If they were attacked either at home, or while they were out, the army was equipped with short swords and shields. The leaders believed that this was all that the army needed to keep them safe, and that they should teach themselves how to use them as they didn’t know how. They would leave any and all training up to the military and would fully expect them to be able to protect the leaders as soon as they were needed to. If any of them passed away while doing their job, they would be replaced as soon as they were able to find a suitable replacement, and that wouldn’t let the army have a choice in who was picked.
Religion
Religiously, the Kelnysi clan believed that immortality would make them gods. That if they were able to attain said immortality, that they would be able to go out and preach to other clans. The leaders of the clan wanted their clan to be able to live forever so that they could be seen as the leaders for the entire race of kin’toni, no matter if they were believed in or not. While they were in their pursuit of immortality, the leaders would meet with other clans to secure their safety, and while they were doing so, they would preach about how well they were doing, but they wouldn’t talk about how they were looking to become immortal.
Instead, they had planned that they would become immortal first and then they would call a huge meeting with the other clans that they had secured safety with, and they would declare that they were immortal and were now the leaders of all of the kin’toni. Because they held this belief, the leaders would sit down together, and they would re-enact how they would announce their becoming gods. As well, they would act out how they would preach to other clans, and which laws they would put into place. While they knew that they weren’t yet immortal, they would still act as though they were better than the other clans.
And this make it seem like they thought that were better than everyone else. It seemed that way because that was how the leaders wanted it to seem. They would carry themselves as though they were already gods because they believe as long as they did so, they would be able to become the gods that they wanted to be. In doing so, they also preached to the other members of their clan, saying that they were to be regarded as gods, and that the clan members would have to bow to them, to address them as god followed by their name.
Because of how relentless the leaders of the clan were in believing they were gods; the other members would do what they could to avoid the leaders as they believed that they were arrogant, and self absorbed with their beliefs. When the leaders would call meetings within the clan, there were some members that would do what they could to avoid the leaders. They would attend the meeting, but they would stay towards the back of the crowd, hoping to be missed or ignored. They would bow with the crowd at the beginning and end of the meeting, but otherwise they would do what they could to ignore how they were talking about themselves.
These members knew that the leaders weren’t yet immortal and weren’t gods, so they decided that they wouldn’t praise them until it was proven that they were finally immortal and were finally worthy of being regarded as gods.
