History

In the year 4E 30, the Huaetet kin'toni Clan was founded by Koest Bur'raya. The clan survived the war against a now-lost clan by fleeing to the inhospitable Natye Desert, far away from other clans. Only one hundred had survived the Great War. Many did not make it to safety in the Desert of Jalaitar, killed or enslaved by other clans while fleeing. Of the kin'toni that made it, many died in the Desert of Jalaitar by being unable to get water to drink or food to eat. The heat also killed some of the kin'toni. After that, the clan lost a few kin'toni but found a few zu'aan to turn and no kin'toni to enslave. The clan only had around three hundred kin'toni then.

It wasn’t until 4E 69, That the Huaetet found refuge near a mountain and took refuge in a cave. According to legend, that night, Koest Had dreamt that he was awakened by the sound of singing throughout the cave. He followed the sound deeper into the cave until he came to the end of the cave and found light pouring from a crack in the wall. Upon touching the wall, the crack burst open and Koest could see water, trees, plants and animals, pyramids, cities, palaces, his people, and their generations for years to come down this passage. It was then Koest heard a voice call his name. when he looked up, he saw the Gods smiling down on him from the heavens.

They told him that this was the place that his people could flourish and promised him that he and his people were chosen to rule this land. When he awoke, he and several of his fellow kin'toni went down the cave in his dream and found the crack in the wall. When they pulled it apart, water began leaking from the crack. It was then that he told his people of this dream and they saw it as a sign from the Gods and made him their king. It was also here where they placed their city, Jalaitar. They broke the wall open the aquifer and made a river that flowed to the sea. For the first forty years, after they broke the wall, the kingdom grew.

It was small at first but steadily grew bigger. The clan tried to stay out of the Shattering and failed, a group of clans invaded and killed most of the clan. Over time, the Huaetet kin'toni Clan has, like the other clans, been losing kin'toni and being unable to turn zu'aan to make more kin'toni. With the weather of Terael becoming colder and the crops that the clan needs to grow for food failing. The aquifer is running dry slowly and the clan is finding it harder to keep their once-great kingdom. A thing is too, the other clans are closing in, wanting to enslave this clan.

Psychology

Huaetet kin'toni has an explosive personality prone to sudden outbreaks of emotion from an otherwise calm and collected exterior; as a result, they exhibit bipolar and manic behaviours that could sometimes be characterized as borderline insanity. They dabble in extremes, giving it their all or no effort at all. They are said to have poor attention spans, but when they focus they truly focus. After surviving for years in the inhospitable desert and becoming masters of said land, they have become very proud of themselves,

Often referring to themselves as “The God’s Chosen Children” and considering all other races inferior. Though despite this pride, they highly respect those whose Honor and prowess in combat, as well as those who are willing to sacrifice everything to change their fate; however, an unfortunate coincidence regarding this clan is that their pride has usually come with downfall and strife, as their claim on themselves being declared as the chosen ones are often tested to its utmost extremes. Sometimes, if their pride is tested.

They will come out on the winning end, although occasionally they are forced to retreat to avoid being wiped off the face of their world forever. In addition to their pride and explosive personality, Huaetet kin'toni is surprisingly gifted in at least one trade, namely because they are determined to do something right and the all-out attitudes they express when they give everything they've got. They excel mainly in construction, with building and design sketching being one of their top priorities. However, to show that they are not one-trick ponies.

They often experiment with different musical instruments, such as the nine-stringed guitar (or, walsinqua) and the trumpet-like instrument commonly referred to as a guyoca. A strange thing that transpires among clan members is the supposed construction work while sleeping coincidence, which usually happens inside Huaetetian pyramids that can house up to approximately 200 kin'toni at a time. Not many kin'toni have confirmed this as it has only been seen by others once every dozen or so years and is done in private most of the time when not seen by the public eye.

However, according to some kin'toni, Huaetet kin'toni does construction work almost all of the time, even when they are in a deep sleep, and they do this because their ancestors excelled in this trade.

Biology

The Huaetet are adapted to the very hot, very dry and open Natye Desert. They are whipcord lean and very thin of build, with very long limbs. This allows them the maximum surface area for loosing the heat from day-sleep and swift, graceful movement across sand. The downside of this is being very vulnerable to being knocked down or stunned by heavy blows or shockwave effects. The skin is sandy-yellow in color, and thick and leathery. The skin's inner layers are adapted to powerful osmotic pressure changes like those from when salty or brackish water, but the downside of this is that fresh water damages and makes swell painfully the cells in their skin.

In some cases, the skin begins to slough off from damage. They have no body hair, and head hair that is changed into thick, dark, tightly braided strands. They use this braids as heat shields from the heat of the ground during day-sleep. The eyes are small, deep set and bright yellow in color. Like many clans, they have an nictitating membrane, serving to clean and protect from the find, sharp sand. The ears are very large, pointed and adapted to moving heat out of the body via a system of blood vessels under the skin.

Inside the ears, the canals have heavy narrowing and complex protective skin fold and internal hairs, to act as a sand filter and windbreak. This also leads to being highly vulnerable to pressure build-up and excruciating pain when exposed to changes in barometric pressure. Their hearing is also impaired by this adaption. The nose has highly convoluted nasal passages with extra mucus-producing glands as to keep out the sand and lower extra mucus-producing glands. This is an adaption to the very dry air, but leads to their sinuses being very sensitive to sudden temperature drops.

The teeth are sharp, serrated and fragile, changed for quick cutting and rapid blood flow when drinking from thick-skinned desert prey. These teeth are easy to chip and break on hard materials. Claws are adapted as digging tools, not cutting tools for fast digging of dens for day-sleep. These claws have spoon-like tips and thick bases as to quickly move sand. The claws are bad climbing tools and poor weapons. Feet are wide and flat, and with fibrous pads, adapted for moving over soft sand via spreading their weight.

With this, it makes them loud and clumsy if they move over rocky or hard ground. The bones are adapted to be unusually flexible in the spine and joints. This allows them to hide in even small holes in the rocks to hide from the sun. The downside of this is a lack of lifting or leverage power, making them weaker for heavy work. The digestive system is adapted glandular modifications allowing them to recycle blood and plasma from their blood intake. The blood is thick, dark and with less water then other clans as to save on water and mass.

The downside of this is a weakness to blood loss, heart attack and stokes. Lungs have modification to act as internal moisture condensation surfaces alongside their normal use. The flip side of this is humid air overwhelms this system. This leads to the system being waterlogged and an temporary drowning sensation, or in some cases, drowning.

Culture

Huaetet Culture was, though harsh, very elegant and complex in everything from art, architecture, literature, science, and religion. Art was heavily encouraged among higher social classes, and education was held in the highest regard by the Set’un-Kai. In the Old Kingdom, knowledge was the key to a more successful kingdom and the Set’un-Kai were the ones who recorded history, conduct scientific experiments and created new inventions for the kingdom. They had been known to go into extreme depths to uncover knowledge. Even so far as to experiment on captured prisoners of war or slaves to test biological weapons and other dark sciences.

The Shattering had changed that forever. They have lost most of this knowledge now and keep what they have and they are not advancing anymore. The experiments on captured prisoners of war or slaves have made other clans, not like them and target them in the Shattering. Now they try and keep what little knowledge they have. The Huaetet have many celebrations as well as rituals to coincide with their many Gods and events that have happened throughout their history. The Huaetet kin'toni Clan made great pyramids to honour both the Gods and the former Pha’ros of the past, but now they do not make any more and the old pyramids are falling apart other times.

They do not know how to build more pyramids. They have become as harsh as the desert around them, but yet maintain a certain sophistication of manner and thinking. They value Honor, Chivalry, Loyalty, Honesty, and Wisdom above all else. All these are taught to newly turned kin'toni through the Ekka ne Se’mga, The Edicts from The Mouth of the Gods, which are the Holy Scriptures written by the first Se’mga and all other Se’mga thereafter. Art also depicts these scenes as well as exploits between kin'toni and the Gods, Demons, desert and other clans. The Palace of Jalaitar was built around where Koest discovered the aquifer and the palace was built so that the river would flow from it.

This palace is also falling apart, but now so much as it is maintained better. The Huaetet are obsessed with mummification. They mummify anything that they can get their hands on. Men, women, newly turned kin'toni, Small animals, Wuk’tu, you name it. Falconry is a very popular sport in Huaetet society. Though is mostly used for hunting and warfare, The Loe’m mostly used for their entertainment. They must be fascinated by birds of prey killing small things. Their written language has characters are formed with lines and curves in a somewhat complex style. They represent mostly sounds, as well as some concepts.

Government

Huaetet Government is Hierarchical, Ranging from the many peasants, Lo't, to the rich merchants, Che'm'a, to the nobles, Loe'm, to the military generals, Hoen'ka, to the scholars, Set’un-kai, and finally to the King, Pha'ro. Huaetet believes that the Pha'ro are rulers selected by the Gods to rule over the people fairly and nobly. No other social class outranks the Pha'ro, aside from the Se'mga, the Speaker of the Gods, who instead, works alongside him. It is said that the Se'mga was one whose faith was so strong, that the Gods solely chose him/her to speak from directly and spread their word to the people directly.

The Huaetetians believe strongly in the "Eye for an Eye" philosophy and those who Trespass upon another must face the consequences by the other hand. Punishments range from thrashings to full-blown slavery. And those who commit heinous crimes, such as murder, rape, or treason, can be sentenced to death or worse. They can be handed over to the Set’un-Kai to be experimented on. Other extreme forms of punishment have been endured by criminals of this clan, but it is not known how these said criminals' psychology and overall state of mind and body have been affected.

On top of these particular facts, it is also known that the higher-ups of this clan's government have a huge responsibility when it comes to governing this clan, as good deeds within the government's higher-ups do not go unnoticed. Once it is discovered that a government official, or Vuza, has done something good in the eyes of the Pha'ro, the Pha'ro will offer him some kind of an incentive that said government official might enjoy, such as a taste of an exotic food whose history dates back to the origins of this clan, or even an ancient medallion that is believed promote goodwill and peace.

The flag of the clan is a rectangle with a solid tan background and a diagonal cross of white. The emblem is a hydra and a skull within a square. The main export is lumber and the main import: precious metals. The main resource is mining precious metals and there is a slight surplus in trade. The strength of the economy is strong and improving and wealth is spread throughout the upper and middle classes. A strong influence is a merit and a popular issue is personal freedoms. Personal freedoms are tolerable and scandals are very rare. Foreign relations are very bad.

Military

The Huaetet Army, though small, is a formidable force not to be taken lightly. They are savage on the battlefield and masters in strategy. Courage, honour, as well as wisdom, are favoured above all else in the Military. Soldiers value these principles like they value water. From a young age, they are raised and trained in these principles and all manner of weaponry, strategy, horsemanship, falconry, sailing, and formations. They do have their weaknesses and can be overcome with numbers. Each kin'toni is a formidable foe, but this comes with every loss being a big one and it takes a long time to recover losses.

They also have the weaknesses of having little armour and few ranged weapons. The arm of this clan fights up close, for that is what they are good at, but they fair badly in ranged assaults. To counteract this fault they mostly use the desert to their advantage and engage in skirmishes. This army is famed for its superior military intelligence and the use of Warhammer. They also employ many lightly armoured units. They are famous for ruthlessness and their overwhelming bureaucracy. Each regiment contains 7 divisions made up of 5 lines of 120 soldiers.

There are five regiments in this army, the first is called the Ax'a, the second is called the Ni'k, the third is called the Mi'a, the fourth is called the Ty'a, the fifth is called the Yt'e. The division names are prefixed with the name of the regiment. One regiment of the Mi'a regiment is called the Mi'a-Lka as in the L'ka division of the Mi'a regiment. Lines are prefixed with the name of the regiment, then division. One line of the L'ka division is called the Mi'a-Lka-Shi. This means it is the Shi line of the L'ka division of the Mi'a regiment.

They have a loose chain of command, with ranks based on seniority. At present, they are returning home from a big war. But one of the most interesting things about the Huaetet clan's Army is their abundance of architectural supplies, particularly, daggers, wet concrete, nails, and granite blocks. This is because the army of the Huaetet kin'toni Clan also builds the homes and other buildings that the clan needs. All of these aforementioned supplies are supplies that they most commonly use to build their places of residence and offer additional shelters to other kin'toni in their clan who are most deserving of a sturdy home.

But with the dawning of a new Ice Age, they may have to go a long way to search for other miscellaneous supplies that they might need. The clan arm does not take these supplies with them in times of war unless they are needed.

Religion

Huaetet religion is polytheistic, having multiple gods to pray to and revere as well as demons to blame for misfortunes and disasters. The major Gods they pray to is Mot, God of Wind, Wisdom and adaptability, Set'u, Goddess of Water, Knowledge, and Vitality, Hep'e, God of Earth, Willpower, and Stability, Teh, Goddess of Fire, Courage, and Passion, Nab'm and Chim'aj, The King and Queen of the Gods, and Kaa'l, The Master of Fate and Insight. Kaa'l, though isn't seen as part of the Gods circle more like outside of it, much like a wizened hermit that the other Gods listen to.

Kaa’l is often favoured by those of a lower social class, due to his ability, it is said to change the fate of those who prove themselves to him. To win his favour and that of the other gods, kin'toni who come of age, and older may take the Sa'et eh Kaa'l, The Trials of Kaa'l. The Sa'et eh Kaa'l are a series of perilous tests that are thought to be overseen by Kaa'l and the other gods that test if one's Head, Heart, and Soul are strong enough for one to be in control of one's destiny. Though to applicants, what the tests are a mystery, but the Sa'et eh Kaa'l tests go in this order. The Chamber of the Head is a maze filled with deadly traps to test one's intellect.

The chamber of the Soul Is a path through a place that is said to fill with the influence of Shei'kra, the Devil of corruption and madness, to test one's resolve. And the Chamber of the Heart is a Labyrinthine like chamber where one must kill a wounded Deva'ri, one of the most dangerous creatures in the Jalaitar region of Taerel, known for its ferocity and an increased element of danger when wounded, to test one's courage. Those who Pass may be said to be given a blessing from the Gods, may change their social class and receive a new name. Those who fail are either dead or remain on the same path that the gods have given them.

kin'toni can only take this test once. The Sa’et eh Kaa’l is the final determining factor in which you thought to have the chance to change your fate, but your fate can change through other means, such as marriage, servitude, or prayer to the Gods. It is not known if the Gods are real, but like most other clans, the Huaetet kin'toni Clan believes the Gods are real. There is a cult that is outlawed to Shei'kra, the Devil of corruption and madness. They kill kin'toni and eat them in rituals and they are known to deface shines to other gods. A kin'toni who is found to be in the cult is killed.

Miscellany

What is also common concerning the mystery and shock surrounding the daily activities of this clan can be found by looking into a Huaetetian's construction regime, which is sometimes updated to meet the time requirements of certain tasks. During their night activities, they will generally make weapons of blunt force, but when they are still working in their sleep they will generally construct less demanding and morbid objects, objects which often take a lot less time and a lot more ease and wisdom. Another common mystery about this clan's daily and nightly activities is the use of blunt instruments to shape a seemingly immovable object.

Unusual methods are often used during such construction times, and those unusual methods can include the morphing of an object through deconstruction and a unique reconstruction process that would normally take a typical kin'toni clan several times longer than what it takes in terms of time. Typical construction methods in this clan may also include the scattering and splattering of neutral colours of paint. And now for a more unique take on the mental health of the Huaetet kin'toni: generally it is common for a kin'toni in this clan to work while sleeping, which may explain why most of the kin'toni in the Huaetet clan sleepwalk while they work.

It is almost as if these kin'toni are in some kind of a trance, but in reality, they're not. They've just gotten so used to working during the day that they have developed sleepwalking habits in addition to their working while asleep and that in of itself is not very uncommon in a clan of this size. It is also of important note that while kin'toni and zu'aan consider the average Huaetet kin'toni to have an estimated 50 per cent muscle mass in their body weight index, it has been proven by kin'toni from across Terael that the real muscle mass percentage of a Huaetet kin'toni's body weight index is 25 per cent.

Two holidays in this clan are: Dradimoh, a solemn religious holiday celebrated just after the third crescent moon of autumn. It commemorates a failure. It is associated with pessimism, a thwarted plan, confusion and purity. Traditions include public sacrifices, forgiveness from debt, intoxication and exchange of compliments. Oraf is a joyful historical holiday celebrated on the second crescent moon of spring. It is associated with greed and imagination. Celebrations last seventeen days. Traditions include private contests of strength, fasting and marriage proposals. A few notable traditions celebrate it differently.
