History

The Jaldbel Taiga Hills were an environment that was very serene, with lots of hills that are covered in tall spruce trees, coarse dirt and podzol. With its peaceful nature, many would go there to rest their mind and feel more relaxed as it was an uninhabited area consisting only of the flora that grew in the environment and some fauna that roamed around the biome. Then there was the arrival of some travellers who saw the trees to be ideal for their group’s needs and soon went to work at chopping them down and constructing simple but sturdy and inhabitable housing that soon become the start of a new infrastructure and the foundations for the future inhabitants of the Jaldbel Taiga Hills.

Soon many other travellers were willing to come to the hills and take residence there. As time progressed, the area started to see growth in all aspects with its population being one of them as more people were more than keen to move to the region as a result of its calm nature and the fact that it was slowly developing and becoming an even more hospitable area to live in. The continuation of heavy immigration into the area then provoked a response of forming a government, which was key as it enabled the residents to form relations with other nations since they could declare that they had a ruler.

This led to the prosperity of the nation as trading became more common – especially with foreign nations desiring the wood of the Jaldbel Taiga Hills – and many more skilled workers moved in to aid this growth, such as architects to design new buildings and even plenty of skilled craftsmen that could help to manufacture many useful products out of wood such as fencing and even work alongside architects to make new designs for walls and roofing. However, soon there was a change in leadership to the ruler Steinar Krag, who made the mistake of giving away portions of the Jaldbel Taiga Hills to other nations.

This was in hopes of forming alliances and good relations with the neighbouring regions. Although this did work in forming strong bonds, there was ultimately a sense of dislike for these choices from many who saw this as a loss rather than a gain, and as neighbouring nations started demanding more land knowing they would receive it due to the nature of Steinar Krag, the nation soon found themselves faced with the issue of losing so much land that the chance of overpopulation became even more likely – this could have devastating events.

The solution to this issue came in the form of the Ladir kin’toni clan, who had managed to claim a small portion of land from Steinar Krag without his awareness that he had just given this kin’toni clan a place to contain troops – troops who were ready for an ambush attack to claim the region. Soon the kin’toni had managed to force themselves into the area and claim it for themselves after battling the forces of Steinar Krag, and then even went on to take back all the land that Steinar Krag had given away to appeal to the residents of the Jaldbel Taiga Hills.

Psychology

Due to the soothing nature of the wind that blew in the Jaldbel Taiga Hills and the overall tranquillity of the environment, the region was an area that many would resort to as somewhere to take a vacation or simply rest their mind from any occurrences in life that may have overwhelmed them. people who would free themselves from their busy lives by taking breaks and excursions in the hills. The large variety of wildlife – particularly deer – made it an ideal place for those that found pleasure in hunting, and the wide range of flora were a great choice to make a sauce to go along with the meat.

Most people spent their time in great happiness even when new occupants arrived at the region, and ultimately these residents displayed welcoming emotions to all travellers, with their affable, caring, hospitable nature becoming well-known; the inhabitants of the hills even started building accommodation that was free of charge for travellers providing that they spread good, positive views of the hills to those from their place of origin. The vibe that was present in the region was one that was warm, comfortable, and overall, a pleasant experience for anyone willing to embrace the culture of the region and accept the offerings from its locals.

Once a government had been set up the people soon became even happier, as they had greater opportunities to travel to other places for diplomatic purposes as well as become more educated due to the creation of more educational institutions for the inhabitants of the hills and also students from foreign nations. Whilst the region did become more occupied and there was an increase in the hustle and bustle, the people still remained pleased and satisfied, and even determined as well as motivated knowing that they had a purpose or goal, such as working to make even more improvements to the already existing prominence of the Jaldbel Taiga Hills.

Yet, like in most places, some people had negative feelings as shown by those that disliked the choices made under the rule of Steinar Krag, who had started to give out sections of land to the neighbouring nations which ultimately displeased many and created a sense of animosity – it even provoked many to now be determined in disobeying the orders of Steinar Krag and going on strikes or protesting against his decisions. Soon the region started becoming a place of tension with many trying to riot against its ruler, to which the ruler would often send forces to secretly bring silence to those would be the biggest threat to his power.

This was through many methods, such as by having them privately imprisoned or even executed. Eventually, the kin’toni invasion meant that the Ladir kin’toni clan began to reside in the region, restoring the happy atmosphere for all members of the clan as well as the previous occupants by bringing back the land as well as removing many rulings by Steinar Krag that would have caused displeasure. By taking these actions and restoring the landmass of the Jaldbel Taiga Hills for the inhabitants of the nation, many were more than happy and the prosperity that could be found returned.

Culture

Originally, the only inhabitants of the region were the wildlife found in the Jaldbel Taiga Hills. Then the culture of the Jaldbel Taiga Hills began from a small group of travellers that settled in the region, with many of them keeping the traditions they obtained from their own places of origin. As more travellers started moving in, the region soon found itself full of people from different backgrounds, all united by one idea – to make the region a prosperous, affluent, thriving place. To do this, all of them were willing to get to work by using many different construction techniques to build housing.

And by distinguishing each group of travellers into camps that they would inhabit whilst construction took place. These houses would be constructed out of the wood from the trees in the Jaldbel Taiga Hills, that soon became famous due to their uniqueness as well as variety of properties: some of these trees include pine, ulaic, barla, and vaahil. The most notable of these woods were ulaic which was despite being considered as a light and softer wood used in construction due to its high resistance to cracking, as well as its high durability and low decay resistance.

The wood is straight grained with thin and regular texture, and the colour of its heartwood (a reddish brown) and its sapwood (a yellowish white) appeals to many neighbouring nations. Furthermore, a large portion of the members of the clan were skilled craftsmen and carpenters who knew how to turn raw wood into beautiful useful objects and could share their craft with many others, educating them on the skill of turning these natural resources into things like ornaments or even furniture such as chairs and tables. The cuisine of the region was based on both dietary choices of the travellers.

And also adaptations to previous meals that incorporated more food from the Jaldbel Taiga Hills. Berries were very common in all areas and there was a large variety of them. These berries would often be made into jams or juices that were often exported and grew in popularity with neighbouring nations for their exotic, special flavours that was believed to be unachievable in any other nation. Mushrooms were also commonly found in their many variants. These mushrooms would be used in all kinds of dishes, with the creamy, flavourful, mushroom soup of the region being the most popular dish due to the use of other spices and herbs found in the hills that added to the flavour.

Furthermore, the region had skilled confectioners and connoisseurs who were interested in crafting luxury chocolates that would appeal to all tastebuds; one of their famous examples include coating different mushrooms in chocolate and adding a hint of spices on tops, then allowing the chocolate to cool down or even keeping it runny so that it melts in the consumer’s mouth.

Government

When the Jaldbel Taiga Hills started to get occupied, there were only small but homely camps full of travellers – travellers that had a dream, a motive, a goal; there aim was to make this forest their new home. Once others saw what they were doing, many decided to join the travellers on their mission and then set up their own camps in the region. Each camp would have an unofficial leader who had the role of making the choices and determining the right course of action in decisions related to the camp, although none of these were formal governments and more of just mutual relationships regarding the leadership of the area.

Once the camps started to become more than camps and evolve into proper housing and an infrastructure had started, one individual had been inspired by an idea – this person was Hyaliaal Narum. Hyaliaal Narum believed that in order to enable the region to fully excel and reach the prosperity that would make it well-known to its neighbours and in history, he thought of one key concept – a centralised government. Although he did not want to abolish the idea of the camps having their own leaders, he felt that each camp could have its own territory but follow the rulings from one single body.

In this case his proposed centralised government. After taking a census, it was found that many were willing to experiment with this idea and then the first government was formed. Firstly, their aim was to form diplomatic relations with neighbouring nations to try and show that the residents of the nation were hospitable, caring people as to make them feel willing to accept workers from the Jaldbel Taiga Hills. And this proposition did work, as many of the neighbouring nations began to form relations with the region and there were even plans to build roads that would allow for easy transportation of all citizens between all nations.

After Hyaliaal Narum’s death due to illness, there were many other rulers who were in a good light due to the foundations set by Narum, however a key event was Steinar Krag coming to power. When Steinar Krag came to power, he made many fatal flaws such as pushing for an even more centralised government, going so close as to even abolish camps having their own camp leader and instead being replaced by those the Steinar Krag deemed fit to manage and look after the camp. Trying to follow suit with Hyaliaal Narum, he even started giving out land to other neighbouring nations.

As he felt that that was what Hyaliaal Narum would have done to keep good relations and allow for the nation to prosper even more. However, Steinar Krag was mistaken as many – even those that were in his government – found themselves disgusted by this idea and felt that Steinar Krag had lost respect for the Jaldbel Taiga Hills due to the fact he would give away large portions of land so easily. Therefore, when the kin’toni invasion occurred the residents found themselves pleased as the rulers of the Ladir kin’toni clan managed to return territory that had been given away back to the residents.

Making them willing to accept the new kin’toni government.

Military

Due to the peaceful nature and calming atmosphere of the Jaldbel Taiga Hills, there was little to no military presence as it had been uninhabited, and all neighbouring nations were at peace with each other. Furthermore, it was believed that by having military troops in the region could provoke tension due to reasons such as the fact that it could seem as though one of the nations were making an attempt to seize the region for themselves and make it their own territory. Then the travellers moved into the region and began their work, which did not seem to cause any harm or bother any of the neighbouring nations.

Although there is conspiracy that there were plots to prevent the travellers from growing their homes into a powerful new nation. These travellers were always warm and welcoming but were not foolish and still took precautions as they carried weapons such as knives and bows – which would more commonly be used for hunting; swords were also kept but only if needed in any immediate emergency such as an ambush by bandits. They were also trained in the art of making snares and traps and most of them knew how to defend themselves from attacks even without weapons through methods such as hand-to-hand combat.

Their knowledge of traps also means that it is unlikely they can be fooled by them. As the region grew in population and a government had been formed, the inhabitants soon decided that it was best to keep a military both for self-defence and to aid neighbouring nations in combat – following the beliefs of Hyaliaal Namur that good relations with neighbouring nations are key. This military force would be trained in skills that came from the multitude of travellers, as well as forms of combat necessary for a military to function such as weapons handling.

The weapons that would be used by these troops were long curved swords that could be sheathed on their backs, and the purpose of this shape was to be more ergonomically friendly for the troops who would often be in the hilly region and be climbing; climbing was another aspect that was admired by the neighbouring nations as they noticed how the troops of the Jaldbel Taiga Hills were prodigious at scaling any type of terrain, whether it was flat or hilly. As armour, tunics were often worn since there was not a need for amour for troops on patrol.

However the troops fighting in the battlefield would be given their own set of metal armour to wear to protect themselves, along with shields or any other required equipment. When Steinar Krag came to power, there was an increase in military power which could be argued as being one of his good decisions or one of his negative choices; many felt that an increase in military was good for the strength of the nation, whilst a large minority claimed that it could reduce the generous persona that the nation had set for itself, which distinguished it from other nations.

Whilst the overall equipment was the same, all troops were given metal armour rather than only those who were in the battlefield, and hence Steinar Krag dedicated a large spending of the nation’s funds to the military to finance this. Furthermore, there was an increase in the number of troops who were joining the armed forces, and once the kin’toni took over the Ladir kin’toni clan found themselves to have a strong military.

Religion

When the region of the Jaldbel Taiga Hills had no formal rulers or civilisations residing within it, the place was ideal for those who needed somewhere to relax and keep calm. Many would go there to pray with many choosing to meditate as a result of the undisturbed, serene, relaxed nature of the region. Furthermore, many desired to be buried there due to beliefs and superstitions that it was so tranquil that their grave would be undisturbed, and they could properly rest in peace. Once the travellers migrated into the area and started their foundations for a new place to permanently take residence.

They allowed all forms of religion to be followed and were very considerate, with many shrines and temples being built to allow for prayers and forms of worship to take place. As governments formed, some of the leaders would often favour their subjects who followed the same faith of them through giving them greater benefits such as free food and drink if they joined temples or groups of that faith and were eligible for it. This ultimately led to many of the poorer members or travellers becoming converters or even reverts, so that they could be a part of these groups and gain these benefits – it was common that vagabonds did this.

Many gatherings would take place and the ruler at the time had the power to decide what type of celebration or festivities should be carried out – which would often be very grand and lavish and add to the lively atmosphere – and even choose what days should be holidays during the week. An example of a religion that was commonly followed – particularly in the Jaldbel Taiga Hills - includes the worship of the Fuvos gods, who were a group of spiritual foxes that were deemed to be sacred. The greatest and most powerful of them was Fixtar the Devious.

Who was fabled to have such a high level of intellect and wisdom that he managed to place himself on the top of his other ruling gods and goddesses. He is depicted as having a long, striking tail and wearing a great, imposing crown made of sticks on his head, however made in such a manner that the sticks look regal and give off an aura of authority, royalty and leadership; his size is also much larger in comparison to the other deities to make him stand out more and seem more commanding, prevailing and stout. Fixtar the Devious’ purpose is said to be in the creation of the forest.

And it is commonly followed that he was the one who was there when the first seedlings of the ancient trees that no longer stand began to sprout out of the fertile ground. There are many other spiritual foxes who are perceived to work alongside Fixtar the Devious by aiding him in the preservation of the Jaldbel Taiga Hills: some of these include Axtia the Artful, Chibium the Cunning, Silas the Sly, Guhione the Guileful, and many more.
