History

The Nenoji Roofed Forest has always been inhabited by the Jordorm Kin’toni Clan since they had conquered, who were people that had occupied the luscious, vibrant, beautiful forests and made it their home due to its emptiness before their arrival. Nature is prevalent in the region and since the sunlight is blocked by the thick branches and leafage many kin’toni are capable of roaming the cool, remote forests without worry. At first, there were a lack of homes and only some hunters would inhabit the area due to the large, expansive variety of fauna that could be found.

Often, these animals could be hunted for their precious resources such as meat and fur, or even taken into captivity with best being sold off to traders who were willing to sell these animals as pets to the wealthy. However, when the emperor Tsuchida Masumi declared that the forest be under his control and that nobody else would be allowed to hunt or take any resources unless they had a hunting license – even taking a stick and getting caught could lead to a punishment. A majority of the people who could get a hunting license were the wealthy and friends of the emperor, taking away what was once the source of food and income for more deprived hunters and their families.

Hence, many gangs were created to rebel against these rules – some even chose to attack the rich to display their anger and bitterness. One of the most notorious gang leaders was Okabe Yasuo, who felt an empathy for those suffering from poverty as his father had prevented him from receiving the family wealth; his father Mukai Yasuo’s status was deemed however to provide immunity for Okabe Yasuo as nobody would dare to challenge such a wealthy and respected family. Whilst the poor saw Okabe’s gang as respectable and caring, the reality was very different; his gang was responsible for any heinous serious crimes such as robbery, murder, extortion, and other horrid activities.

To combat issues like this, the emperor deployed armed forces who were named as ‘Guardians of the Forest’ to fight against these gangs and stop them in their path after the emperor felt that the gangs’ influences would be too strong and soon there could be rebellion. The emperor was yet to be surprised nevertheless, as there were other threats bigger than the gangs – these were the kin’toni forces. Starting off with small attacks on gangs, the emperor became more relaxed as he felt the power of the gangs was decreasing – a major flaw in judgement as some gang members and the poor were willing to work with the kin’toni in hopes of a better life.

Soon after, there were attacks on the forces the emperor had deployed which caused concern, especially for the wealthy who eventually found out despite the emperor trying to cover it up; the wealthy feared that the emperor was not as powerful and influential as he seemed and that he was in fact losing control of the forest, implying that there may be other better replacements. Eventually, the kin’toni had forced out all the emperor’s forces and made the forest their own.

Psychology

The Nenoji Roofed Forest had always been rather free of any form of mankind and instead inhabited many animals that lived in interdependence, with the fauna and flora creating a serene, peaceful, calming environment. This tranquillity had been used by many to cure them of their mental struggles and battles, as the soothing nature of the forest’s whispers and the pleasant, relaxing nature of the everlasting chorus of the cheerful birds and other animals ultimately complimented the aureate, courteous glow of the sun which could put many in a serene state of mind.

However, as the emperor Tsuchida Masumi started securing the entire forest for himself, it soon became clear that these natural luxuries had been seized unfairly from the public and only the wealthy had access to it, causing a state of disgust and animosity for the emperor by those that frequented using the forest. Furthermore, the hunters started to gain a more rebellious perception of the emperor and this in turn led to the formation of gangs, who were willing to display their extreme dislike for the emperor through their heinous, often unreasonable methods.

Whilst many of the public were blinded from their bad deeds, the common people were inspired by these gangs and felt that they would be heroes in attaining liberty, bringing the region back and hence creating a sense of inspiration and motivation from large masses of the public. The arrival of the kin’toni into the Nenoji Roofed Forest was one that allowed the forest to flourish and add more benefits to the already luscious, lively, peaceful landscape of the area. This took place at first with the allowance of the public to become a part of the Jordorm kin’toni clan and then gain access to the benefits of the forest.

As well as many other practices that they clan took part in. One of these include compulsory meditation as a way to connect with nature and soothe the mind, with the philosopher Hoshino Takumi saying that “the body is the vessel of the mind, but within that vessel there are contents that must be carried through the sea, the vast, grand, expansive oceans of life. Therefore, to calm the storm and allow this vessel to make its voyage safely, it is necessary to allow time for the crashing waves of struggle and storms of battle to settle and allow the vessel to safely journey.

Without this vessel, there is no use in life, and hence it is necessary to allow it to keep going on its path until the inevitable when it must sink like how all things end, and on this day, you shall be in your grave.” Overall, the occupation of the Jordorm kin’toni clan made the people of the emperor’s clan pleased as they had an opportunity to get back the indulgences and luxuries of the forest, and all members of the plan were able to live in peace and harmony and practise their faiths or meditation as a way to embrace the peaceful atmosphere of the Nenoji Roofed Forest.

Culture

The culture of the empire ruled by Tsuchida Masumi was one where the wealthy and those close to the emperor were able to live a luxurious life with large houses and in some cases their own palaces; these homes would be made out of fine matte bricks to construct the walls and use pricey shingles as roofing. The emperor lived in an enormous palace built on top of a mountain made with saffron-infused bricks and large, imposing pillars, as well as full of indoor gardens that had luscious plants which come from both the Nenojo Roofed Forest and other foreign nations.

Furthermore, the emperor has his own treasury which is within the mountain and there is also a huge cavern for his coffers and housing for the emperor’s council. Ultimately, the palace was made in such a way that it was imposing for all the emperor’s subjects and was displayed as impressive and stunning for the other nations, making them believe the emperor was powerful, impressive, and ardent to be the best. It can be observed also that the wealthy had many businesses and properties such as farms and shops, which would be decorated with flags and insignia to clearly distinguish them as the property of that wealthy person.

In contrast, a simpler lifestyle was lived by those that were unable to afford these luxuries and the poor found themselves being homeless or living in homes made of wood and stone which often had thatched roofing; this type of housing was often easy to construct but required heavy maintenance. Therefore, there was often a sense of envy from some of the poor for the wealthy, as well as a belief in the unfairness that the rich had access to all these benefits. Meanwhile, the kin’toni made treehouses in the forest that were linked with bridges under the leafed areas to allow for a tree town to be built which meant that the Jordorm clan could be productive even during the day.

The prevention of the impoverished from being able to use the Nenoji Roofed Forest also caused heavy anger at the cultures of the region, with many taking a hatred for the wealthy and also attacking the temples that had been constructed by the emperor; these buildings would be made of the most expensive materials such as gold plating and special bricks which had been chiselled with intricate designs. Some hunters even grew a disliking to the fact they had lost access to the forest, which was their source of food and business.

In the region, the food included game that could be found such as hares and deer, as well as flora such as mushrooms – a famous meal from the region includes their mushroom soup which has a recipe that is only known to the people of the area. Tea leaves can also be found, which is why tea is such a popular choice of beverage and with the spices that can be found around the forest many flavours can be produced.

Government

Before the kin’toni occupation, the region was a part of an emperor’s expansive, dominant, powerful empire, but was free land that anyone could use. Hunting groups would be formed to create organised hunting of the fauna in the area, and some of these even grew into organisations that played a large part in the upkeep and preservation of the rich, lush forest, as well as the prevention of those that would harm the landscape such as by cutting down large numbers of trees for resources or killing whole species of animals. Then the emperor Tsuchida Masumi made the decision to claim the whole region for himself and make it so that only those with permission could enter.

This was usually the wealthy and friends of the emperor. This was a major issue as those that were poor, and even had an impact on his reputation; the poorer members public had now been exposed to the reality that the emperor did not care for those subjects that were in need and had in fact manipulated religion and prophecy to put himself in a position of power for his own selfish desires. During his rule, the emperor would use statues to make other nations stare at them in awe and praise his empire and would exploit the poor heavily by making the wealthy hire many workers to do these laborious tasks of statue manufacturing.

All of this had been done in the name of faith and inspired the workers that they were committing holy duties and that it would be wrong to ignore these responsibilities. But as the public started noticing the increased spending of the emperor for expenditure and luxuries, many started doubting the prophetic nature of the emperor and hence criticised it; this became a source of tension for his rule. Another source of tension regarding his rule was the rise in the new gangs that formed in the forests to protest against the decisions he had made, and hence the emperor Tsuchida Masumi had to consult those in his council to find out possible solutions.

Which include deploying armed forces in the forest to quietly take out the gangs without this information leaking to the public as a way to make it seem as though the emperor was loved by all. However, this plan was unsuccessful as many became more rebellious and the animosity for the emperor and his council grew and grew until the likelihood of revolution was almost reached. Yet a revolution never took place, at least in the way the public had been suspecting; the kin’toni outbreak meant that kin’toni forces were preparing to liberate the large Nenoji Roofed Forest as their new home.

And once they had, the Jordorm kin’toni clan established their rule and declared how they would differ from the emperor, separating themselves from his rule by making it so that there was enough sections of the forest for all members of the society as well as removing many rulings the emperor had tried to implement to subdue the public, such as mandatory prayers and licenses being needed to hunt in the forest.

Military

The hunters that were once able to hunt in the Nenoji Roofed Forest were always equipped with a bow or crossbow and arrows, as well as string and other equipment that was useful to make traps and snares to capture animals. Some of these hunters were more cautious and aware of the possibility of bandits and thieves using the remoteness of the area to ambush them and loot their belongings, and hence they would keep small weapons such as knives and sharp blades to protect themselves. The bandits and thieves were soon replaced however by the gangs that began setting up camps in the forestland and went against the rulings of the emperor.

These gangs would start their own scout groups, with the larger gangs being more organised and being able to secure areas of the forest for themselves because of their techniques. The use of camps by them were also key in indicating what territory was theirs and show to those in authority and other rival gangs what the gang possessed. Gang wars were also common with rivalry being formed between a few of them resulting in vicious battles that could lead to many deaths and severe damage to the environment – in some cases the emperor’s armed forces would fight alongside gangs to put down threats or to negotiate for peace.

Which rarely occurred due to the distrust gangs had for the emperor. Contrastingly, some gangs formed alliances and joined together to fight against the emperor’s control of the forest. The ‘Guardians of the Forest’ implemented by the emperor were trained in many key skills of combat such as guerrilla fighting techniques which allows them to ambush the gang members and imprison them. There are many units with one type being a heavy force that wears thick, iron, crimson red metal armour and are armed with long, slender swords made of metal and gold (similar to the uniform of the emperor’s armed services).

These units were often sent to attack camps set up by the gangs and to fight against stronger forces. Another type of troop was one that wore layers of black fabric as clothing and a hooded cowl that covered their faces, with some of them wearing clothing that would enable them to camouflage with their surroundings; they would be armed with small blades that could be easily sheathed in their belt. The kin’toni that now occupy the region are well-equipped with knowledge on stealth and are very capable and deadly opponents to encounter.

Firstly, their manipulation of camouflage is dangerous and formidable as it enables them to gain information as well as attack their unaware enemies efficiently and with ease. Their training also means that they are able to have more dexterity and be more agile, giving them the upper hand in combat situations. Furthermore, they have a heightened sense of smell that enables them to sniff out pheromones of animals and even enemies, giving them the upper hand in fighting against their adversaries, and in combination with their small, short, curled fingernails they can easily scratch their foes or gain a firm grip on prey when hunting.

Religion

During the rule of the emperor, religion had been restricted severely as the emperor’s society was forced to follow the faith of the emperor and to believe that the emperor had prophetic capabilities that allowed him to converse with the God Ione; there were many that doubted this however and believed that the emperor was trying to manipulate this as a way to demonstrate power amongst his subjects and other nations. The belief in the God Ione was one which consisted of the emperor building many statues of him alongside a being that was much taller.

With the emperor’s statues being tall and well-decorated in jewellery and lavish cloth, and the statues of Ione being even imposing and well-adorned in silk clothing embroidered with golden fabric as well as jewellery made with the richest materials: these include gold and silver as well as many jewels and gems such as the dazzling diamond, the shimmering pearl, the shiny ruby, the sparkly sapphire, the stunning emerald, the gorgeous amethyst, the glowing topaz, the beautiful aquamarine, and much more. As the emperor grew in popularity.

He started getting the wealthy to build temples and these statues and rewarded them for this by giving them land, and once the rules that stated the Nenoji Roofed Forest was land for the emperor he started giving the rich sectors of the forest. Since many were in disagreement with these new rules, the emperor soon took action to try and make the public under his full control by making mandatory prayers for him and the God Ione; punishments for these include lashings and beatings as well as forced unpaid labour, and even capital punishment for repeat offenders (who were labelled as heretics) through methods such as burning, drowning and even hanging.

Furthermore, the emperor went to work by writing many books and journals of so-called revelations he received that must be shared and followed by the public; this was in many cases just rulings he saw fit for the time period. Once the Jordorm kin’toni clan occupied the Nenoji Roofed Forest, they immediately went to work by destroying all traces of the emperor’s religious beliefs: these include the demolition of shrines and temples, wrecking of any idols, and the burning of the texts written by the emperor. The clan said that they had done the public and favour and freed them from the merciless, power-hungry hold of the emperor.

And that they were free to believe in the God Ione but must not follow the fabrications of the emperor or any other lies that may be made in the name of religion to gain power or wealth or status. However, many soon turned to meditation as a way to have something to believe in, with many claiming they could transcend into other realms to see god-like beings when meditating – this could just be motivation to carry on the habit of meditation, and that if done to the greatest possible ability of a person, they could be deserving of reaching these states of mind that enable them to journey to these so-called gods.

Many believe this could just simply be the effect of taking drugs made from the strange flora of the forest.
