History

Within the many trials zu'aan have to face due to the kin'toni threat within the Shattering Age, the Hyref tribal zu'aan carry a history with deep scars from different sorts of oppressions which shaped the tribe's existence and allowed for its proper settlement. All beginning in the year 4E 141, with the declared fall of the Laenaia tribe, which stood for years as a prominent power within the Shattering Age, and would, after its many internal and external challenges, split into three different tribes, each with their own identity and distinct existence.

Those which are important to tell the history of the Hyref are the Garest, which are the faction of the collapsing Laenaia which fled north towards the Kudapa Mutated Forest, led by corrupt elites which brought many of the military class as a means for self-defense, and the Edano, formed by many which encompassed the lower working classes of the self-declared kingdom, which fled south towards the Iuste Ashland, where a fully different identity was formed by them.

These tribes and their respective histories are deemed important for the formulation of the Hyref because they are what can only be considered and described as a hybrid between the two aforementioned tribes, formed between not only members which were against all the rites and oaths from the Ashlands—who decided to wander through emptier plots of land in a northeastern direction, and loyalist guards from the Garest which refused to remain in a regime which got rid of the elite in such an exclusionary manner, some of them even sneaking members from said elite with them as they fled southeast.

Many of them met upon the Reultdyn Lush River, which was initially more of a hub for many of the refugees, be they tribeless zu'aan from many other conflicts during the Shattering Age, or those members which left their previous regimes; all meeting around a peaceful river which remained beautiful despite all the horror around them in the world of Taerel. Its vast hydrical capabilities also allowed for crops to be grown and for living spaces to be vivid, some people even beginning to sleep around said river for the safety they so felt when in that hub. Within the evolving activity around the Reultdyn river, many of these groups began to build properly organized settlements within the biome.

They see it as a proper safe home for the zu'aan which had lost their homes, seeing the perfect opportunity to declare a fully independent tribe within the year 148 4E, as they watched the activity of the volcanic winter which covered the land during the Shattering Age begin to dissipate. Chaos across the land didn't fully go out, but at least it was stabilizing, and it was seen as a good opportunity to prepare a haven for those which lacked another place to stay. Such organization and proper settlements were organized by an architect of Edano origin named Lisadar Hyref.

Who was a crucial part of everything which even allows the Hyref tribal zu'aan to stand today; and thus, the tribe was named after his surname as a display of respect, especially since the full inauguration of the tribe was done a year after his death, in 154 4E.

Psychology

The psychological framework of the Hyref tribal zu'aan follows a very distinct nature in how it expresses itself in many reconcilial practices, since it allows for two distinct extremes of a past society to exist and coexist within a peaceful method in their very inner psyche, creating many differentials from the average zu'aan; since the minds of the Hyref were bred by the contrast between the hollow despair of the south paired with the aggressive collectivism of the north, which shapes such a framework to only be fairly described by the word "equilibrium."

The rationale observed by a vast majority of the members of the Hyref tribal zu'aan is quite developed in its application of critical thought and analysis, always keeping themselves skeptical of most demonstrations of absolute truths or doctrines, which is a very logical conclusion considering how many of them chose to willingly part from a political regime they found unpleasant on the basis of their own criteria. This also translates itself into a seated notion of distrust for any sort of ideology which demands to any degree total devotion or radical change without further explaining the opposite side's views.

Allowing for the creation and development of cautious and moderate individuals which prefer to fact-check instead of simply believing something pushed culturally. The Hyref's sense of identity is also extremely fluid and plural, considering how many of the members part from extremely and radically different backgrounds than other members, which creates deep philosophical contrasts between many cultural practices and ways of living within the tribe. Though, while they do keep themselves fluid at most times.

The members of the tribe are also extremely resilient to change in some degree, often believing that they're able to hold themselves to their own identity without any issue as long as it doesn't interfere with the principles which kept the members of the tribe together and well; which also applies to their views of their very own home, being fully prepared for destruction if such case comes to be true. Furthermore, the members of this tribe also believe their resistance should take place in quite a passive manner, avoiding any sort of existential justifications which part from ideals of aggression.

Often believing that such behavior is foolish since it contradicts the Hyref in their own adaptive history. This takes deep roots from their practice of oral teaching, which is something that can reach the levels of plain storytelling and the manner in which history is repeated, which may leave some interpretations up in the air or ambiguous, but it allows for the prevention of a single individual to gain too much protagonism over the many members; the latter of which are allowed to share their story.

This had a deep effect as historical individuals which were responsible for reshaping the land they live in and solving all the challenges which were before impeding them from living a peacefully accepted existence in their past tribes.

Culture

The culture of the Hyref tribal zu'aan displays many vibrant factors which characterize the tribe the same way the Reultdyn Lush River was titled before they properly established themselves in the region: as a living hub, marked by deep senses of reverence for individual plurality and the organization of many of the world's diverse wisdoms, creating a self-sustainable culture which always seeks to filter, mend, and share the achievements done by the zu'aan race despite all the challenges attributed to them.

Since the tribe was founded in years of negation of what was usually forced upon groups of zu'aan and their respective doctrines, we see a primary focus within their culture on presenting collective critiques in matters and practices within the tribe, creating an analysis between their practicality and the morals behind such practices as a means to justify the permanence of them within a consensual matter. This isn't done by some group of authorities which hold power in the decision-making.

Instead, major decisions are placed within historical places, where public debating groups come upon it to help decide what is seen as better for the tribe according to democratic means, creating a space for the debate between their oral storytelling and their skeptical analysis, where, oftentimes, unless the presented idea is inherently harmful, it is allowed to exist as a space of interpretation for the different historical individuals within the Hyref. A key dynamic for the functionality of a selective cultural scope comes in the way in which individuals that propose their ideas through expression must be held accountable for their practices, proposals, and what their works preach.

Which translated into the development of the reclamation of utility given to a proper work, which is one of the key things which centers the Hyref's expression and displays how culture is an important part of what keeps collective well, being afloat. Much of their architecture is designed in such a manner which allows for not only creative output but also extremely practical manners to construct living units, where even the smallest huts along their river feature full decoration, be it internally or externally, and oftentimes featuring neat little traits which allow them to examine the river's bed from within their households.

Their architecture is also undeniably modular, creating flexible river-reeds and lightweight timber which can be easily moved and placed somewhere, allowing for practical resettlement in those worst-case scenarios that can always come up in the world of Taerel, which also reflects much of what built their existence to this point. Many of these practices are brought together and fully valued in yearly rituals, which happen during seasonal transitions, where items, stories, and individual experiences are brought together in a communal ceremony along the riverbank.

There, they often symbolically allow the thing to go with the current while they walk to a better tomorrow without it, allowing for cyclical moments of renewal, seen as good for not only their mental state, but also for the stability of the tribe's plurality.

Government

The governance of the Hyref tribal zu'aan often crafts itself meticulously around placing itself in a neutral position for a vast majority of their issues, which is designed with the specific objective of acting as an antithesis to the corrupt centralization of power which takes place in many of the government styles across the zu'aan world, while also avoiding any sort of style which structures itself with strong and rigid hierarchies, instead preferring the logic of a sort of dispersed authority, which holds the main objective of preventing power from becoming stagnant and oppressive.

One of the measures done to prevent the accumulation of political egoism within a means to undertake the government doctrine of shifting power around, the Hyref tribal zu'aan lack a permanent ruling body, instead preferring to utilize a council of ever-shifting members, allowing for rotating groups of delegates, which are chosen from different regions of the riverbed, to be chosen via a popular vote as a means to regulate the policies and the justice system of the tribe; this council holds the primary function to filter proposals.

Many of them which are born from the public debate events the tribe partakes in and promotes, deciding which is democratically better for the interest of the tribe, which basically translates this branch as a regulatory body which is there to simply ensure that the actions taken within the tribe follow consensus in a way which doesn't harm the tribe's primary concept of plurality. Their executive branch also follows the same rotational logic, being handled through a series of well-documented and regulated mandates which are changed each six months.

Declaring who holds the new responsibility of being the properly declared administrator of the tribe's events and allocator of resources; this leader is then strictly forbidden from seeking any sort of consecutive terms, each individual being limited to only one within their lifetime, sometimes even leading to situations where non-interested individuals are placed in the position of leadership of the tribe due to the lack of candidates. Another thing about this leader is that they're often ensured a proper servant of the tribe's immediate needs rather than a constructor of their own individual empire.

This is all due to the tribe's adopted policy of rapid rotation. Their judicial philosophy is also one which follows a more restorative means, such as most of their tribe's already developed cultural notions, instead of one which focuses solely on punitive methods and metrics, which is all regulated under the legal code; one which believes that irregularities to the flow of existence can all be placed back into balance, and they defend that their legal code does this greatly when it limits the potential of a single individual's harmful behavior.

Their judiciary body often allows for solutions to be found in a way which allows both the harmful and the harmed parties to return to a safe state within the equilibrium of the tribe's objectives, often taking to practices which involve community service.

Military

The Hyref tribal zu'aan's military forces act as a specialized extension of their psychological doctrine of shaping their resistance around pacification, taking to the most passive means possible so as to not contribute to the harm the world reproduces in their era; this philosophy makes it so their armed forces function more as an intricate defense network instead of the classical concepts of a traditional army, which seeks ideals such as conquest or glory. This allows for the building of a doctrine which is built wholeheartedly around the concept of evasion and mastery of their environment, with the objective of ensuring that any kin'toni threat is neutralized without the sometimes needed means of brute force.

Their fundamental principle allows for the creation and naturalization of an overall notion which goes along with a pretty commonly used phrase, which declares that "the harder an enemy strikes, the more defense should seek to reset," which makes it so they conclude the best manner to tackle difficult situations is by avoiding decisive, head-on battles, something which is seen as a means to weaponize the collective instead of allowing it to stand strong together, something which many of their members fled from when they migrated to the lush river.

Instead, the overall method of dealing with such issues is following strategies which seek to lure invaders into more treacherous and mutated parts of the river's delta, trying to weaponize the environment against them, or as they prefer to say, to "potentialize the natural shield's potential." They also developed an intricate system reliant on sentry technology as a means to guard and keep safe the riverbanks within various locations, and these so-called sentries are represented by the very members of the tribe, which are trained within decentralized means as a matter to guarantee their guarding of their respective portion of the river.

Most of this training is done naturally by most of the families, all with the objective of the defense of their own individual property, and this is given even more of a highlight with not only the houses' mobile nature, but also in the development of many fortifications which prevent reckless kin'toni invasions. Another key trait of the Hyref's military are their elite troops, responsible for gathering not only the highest level of accessible intel of the tribe, but also, as it sounds obvious, concentrating the best and highest quality training in military terms that the tribe was able to provide.

This branch consists of scouts with extreme training in tactics about keeping oneself submerged as a means of defense, creating stealth-based maneuvers beneath the river's seeable surface, allowing them to sneak right past enemy lines to give fatal blows while not raising even eyebrows. These elite members come equipped with specially designed breathing reeds and special belts that allow them to walk within the riverbed undetected, focusing not only on those fatal blows but also on sabotage when the threat is smaller, be it by destroying temporary bridges or by stalling an entire army.

Religion

The religion of the Hyref tribal zu'aan follows the very force they have come to cherish to such a high degree thus far, the Reultdyn river, thus creating the religion of Reultdynism, a religion which the nature of its deity is an uncountable amount of shifting currents, shifting currents that aren't all-powerful, all-good, or all-knowing, they are the incarnate representation of deities that is translated into how they've become such a fluid and adaptive life-source despite the brutal world zu'aan are currently forced to live in.

It is proof, divine proof, that survival doesn't require aggressiveness, dominance, or anything that justifies violence, which shaped how the Hyref believe the river’s flows are the purest forms possible to represent the right way to live; they are sacred because of their gentle endurance, while still being flawed, chaotic forces. What makes the Reultdyn divine by nature, and clearly representations of deities for the Hyref, is how they clearly embody the divine qualities that the Hyref have historically sought to accomplish themselves.

Having a higher level of adaptability, always being restorative before aggressive actions. Mentally balanced, and of course, having that mastery over one's own equilibrium. This set of behaviors is seen by the Hyref as clearly intentional divine lessons; it's every intricate detail about how the currents function, every ripple of their surface, every moment of filtering, every rhythmic rush, it's all clearly perfect for the Hyref. Worship is expressed in many different sorts of rituals, such as acts of service that go from small donations or the act of cleansing the silt of any river-sector you see in the hub.

That often times is seen more current-friendly than zu'aan-friendly, with a vast array of filtration sieves and water-wheels that are constantly maintained just about everywhere. It's all about sifting, observing, and protecting the flow; it's the sacred duty left to the Hyref by the waters as a favor that they must pay for having the very right to even experience the river's existence first-hand. This translates into rituals which involve reflection, patience and just overall the treatment of the river’s movements such as teachers.

Whose every act is a lesson to how to behave better as a tribe, which explains how they're always being quietly observed and cherished. The stagnation of a river-bed is seen as as close of a crisis as the very destruction of a housing unit in the tribe; it's often seen as a warning or a sign of collective failure that the tribe must put all their efforts into repenting for, it often translates into not only quite a hefty amount of post-stagnation rituals such as a very respectable scouring, but also the reinforcing of the infrastructure that serves to keep the water flowing.

As to keep the divine currents well to the best of the Hyref tribe's efforts; furthermore, the Hyref don't believe in the reincarnation of specific flows, defending that each and every single ripple is irreplaceable; be it by the minerals in the water or the bioluminescence on its surface, every current is extremely unique to the other, and every single one should be cherished regardless of their characteristics, given their own place in the ledger, and given the appropriate amount of respect.
