History

Residing in the Orm'kela Terraces was the Dener Zu’aan Tribe, who had chosen the region because they were a small minority who had no other choice. Their history is one that goes far back to a time when the regions surrounding the terraces were run by a tyrannical king, who had ordered that many impoverished members of society should be forced to become slaves for the wealthier members of society or else exterminated and killed, where their bodies would be removed by letting them flow down the river that went through the Orm'kela Terraces.

As a result of this, many reformers and abolitionists protested such treatment, but this was to no avail as the richer class of society found themselves getting into their own sort of civil war, battling with each other to try and gain dominance and prevent the more sympathetic members of this class preventing them from gaining such power. This conflict would often be in the form of protests which is what would be shown to the public in order to make it seem as though there were no issues, but in reality, there were plenty of violent riots that led to many deaths.

This was especially common amongst the poorer members of society who would go and attack those who enslaved them and rebel, attacking many mansions and properties that belonged to the heartless wealthy, or even going as far to publicly humiliating them, with executions in front of the public eye being the most extreme; these demonstrations were to show how aggravated the poor were by the way they had been treated. This chaos descended to such a state that the military forces of the monarch at the time (Fedot Ro) were sent out to patrol the streets and put down rebellions.

Although this was done in an unfair manner since the government managed to poison the minds of the military into suspecting that most poor people were rebels, and therefore the impoverished, penurious members of society faced so much mistreatment that they were forced to flee to escape in order to evade persecution. However, the soldiers were sent to the Orm'kela Terraces to search the area where many of the poor were killed off upon discovery, but a large portion went into hiding and a proper rebellion was formed, who then went on to battle king Fedot Ro but were unsuccessful and forced to flee again.

They still managed to dent the monarch’s authority and control, weakening him, and putting the throne in a risky position. Soon, those who had to seek refuge within the Orm'kela Terraces had chosen to start growing the region and eventually became known as the Dener Zu’aan Tribe amongst the inhabitants, but in reality, this was all kept a secret to prevent discovery, although there are still hopes for the tribe to be recognised by other nations and allowed to progress once the poor people can free themselves from persecution and the stranglehold of poverty. To this day, the Dener Zu’aan Tribe have continuously been battling with its neighbours, hiding in many cave systems and structures to enable them to do stealth attacks and hopefully one day achieve freedom.

Psychology

The mentality in the locations around the Orm'kela Terraces is one that varies, often due to the social classes that the members of society find themselves within. In most cases, the wealthy are more than happy and very joyful, delighted, and cheerful for having so many riches, ranging from money, servants, property, land, valuable relics and goods, and much more. However, many of these people would also have a greedy nature to them and desire for more than they had despite having more than enough and living very substantial, lavish lifestyles, which promoted a sense of competition.

Then there was the other side of the spectrum, which consisted of the impoverished members of society who struggled to make a living and would live in cheaper, more derelict homes as well as have difficulties in getting necessities like food and drink as well as clothing. Furthermore, there were those in the middle of society who could still live pleasant lives but there was always the risk of dropping down to the level of the poor so they would usually be on edge and anxious, although many managed to become almost as wealthy as the rich members of society.

All of these different feelings are a factor in the history of the Dener people, as shown by how these differences led to the conflicts that occurred near the Orm'kela Terraces. One of the driving factors was the greed of many of the wealthy members, who desired to have many slaves that could serve them and allow them to live easy lives. Additionally, the government were facing issues of overpopulation of poorer people since the rich were starting to be in a minority and there was a greater wealth divide. By trying to provide a solution.

Further tensions were only caused as the many members of society protested against the idea that the impoverished inhabitants should be forced to become slaves for the wealthy, meaning that they would no longer need to be paid. Mass protesting took place to express anger, which could grow like a raging fire into vicious, violent riots. This was then met with military forces and eventually many of the poor members of society fled to the Orm'kela Terraces, where they hid and hoped to form a rebellion and fight against this injustice.

To this day, those who hide within the Orm'kela Terraces have decided to secretly form the Dener Zu’aan Tribe, although have done so out of hiding due to fear of being discovered and attacked, as well as the fact that it would be unlikely any nation would support them in the cruel world of Taerel unless they had something extremely valuable. Additionally, they felt the trauma of dealing with mistreatment hit them, and in most cases, most people were unhappy as well as disturbed, tormented and on most occasions mentally broken by the massacres they had seen.

However, being around people who could share their experiences about such tragedies was a factor that allowed for some recovery to take place, for there was the ability to open up to those that the poor people were forced to reside with; it can also be noted how the Dener people tend to be very reserved and mingle in their own community rather than showing openness with foreigners or people from their original homeland. Yet, despite all of this, there is a sense of determination that this mistreatment can be ended, and the Dener Zu’aan Tribe can rise to become better and more powerful.

Culture

The housing of the Orm'kela Terraces and the regions around it can be observed to see many differences, especially since the wealthy such as the monarch, his council members, and other influential figures have been able to live in lavish mansions or even palaces, which would have great gardens with well-kept, beautiful plants and buildings that boasted their grand size and stunning architecture, as well as careful work in creating stunning, ornate designs and the incorporation of tiles and expensive materials.

On the other hand, there were those in poverty who resided in slums that were hidden away, where diseases were rife and the shacks and shelter were often derelict and hardly provided any protection, and in some cases, was overpopulated as people crammed together to try and protect themselves from the outdoors. Furthermore, it was more common than not that many of these would be homeless, sleeping in the streets or trying to hide under the shade of some housing.

When many fled to the Orm'kela Terraces, this all slightly changed as everyone was forced to hide within the caves to avoid discovery by the monarch’s troops, but overall people were content that they were not being taken off the streets and enslaved. Within these caves, the Dener Zu’aan Tribe were able to form a culture of their own, which would be personal to them and have significance since it would reflect on their history. Due to high rates of illiteracy, it was rare that reading and writing were common, but the impoverished people were able to express their emotions through singing and dancing.

Which would consist mostly of vocals that had many themes (hopeful, distressed, determined, pleased) but were often chanting to show their rebellious nature towards the king. Furthermore, it was common to pass the time by having performances where many would enact stories that some members of the community had produced based on the true events and the persecution they faced, with many using this as a way to bring together their society and also share the feelings and emotions that were all mutually felt.

In addition to this, there were also those who found art to be their way of expressing themselves and did so by painting the walls of the caves around the Orm'kela Terraces with many images, with some displaying their trauma through the use of bland, gloomy, dark colours whilst others were brighter and tended to be more vibrant, projecting feelings of hope. In order to survive, the Dener people would trade with many merchants secretly or ambush the carts that transported supplies to the wealthy; some of them managed to make themselves fit a stereotype that the poor were also thieves who should be avoided when they committed such acts.

As for those who had more morals and saw this as an injustice that would make them look bad – almost as bad as the wealthy – there were those who would depend on certain people to sneakily enter the region around the Orm'kela Terraces where the markets were within the monarch’s kingdom and then purchase supplies there, bringing the goods in secret to the caves. Due to this, a lot of the cuisine and clothing worn would not have changed much from the lives of the Dener people before they had formed their group; their diets were similar and they still had clothes that tended to be old and tatty, often stitched up and repaired but rarely brand new.

Government

The government of the people around the Orm'kela Terraces was one that was a council that worked alongside a monarch to decide laws and rulings for the region. Whilst in power, the king’s decision would always be final and in most cases could not be disputed, however, he knew that in order to please his subjects his only option was to make sure that the public perceived that they had their input, so the council was only formed for this reason, but in most scenarios, they were ignored unless the monarch found himself in a state of desperation and required such assistance.

Many protested against this idea and believed that their ideas were still not being heard, but this only put the monarch in a state of rage and these protestors were normally killed sneakily, and in order to further enhance his authority, the monarch would make sure that all council members were his friends. Furthermore, all other workers that laboured within the palace where meetings would occur had to go through rigorous checks and would have alternating shifts to make sure that they did not leak anything confidential to the public.

Under the rule of Fedot Ro, this sense of tyranny, despotism and autocracy was explicit to the public by the decision to have the poorer members of society enslaved and made workers of the wealthy. This was met with heavy protesting and since many members of the council were wealthy and corrupted, they desired not to lose their benefits so chose to side with the monarch, despite many knowing that it was wrong. This led to many of the impoverished fighting back against oppression or fleeing to the Orm'kela Terraces¸ which ultimately had an impact of the king’s land as the poor did in fact contribute to the function of his kingdom by doing work and toiling away, doing labour many of the richer members of society chose not to do.

The leadership of the Dener people is one that consists of a group of rebels who are skilled and tactical, who can prepare attacks on the monarch and easily work out what needs to be done to improve the lives of the impoverished people, such as by secretly trading with merchants in hopes of gaining supplies for the population. Additionally, these leaders are usually elected by the poor people in order to give them more freedom and enable them to have what they were promised – the ability to have an input in the laws and regulations and how their society would be run.

It can also be noted how many of the Dener people’s hatred for the wealthy was grown by the fact that there was plenty of propaganda that was spread, such as a speech by a rebel leader saying, “Fedot Ro, that cursed name. I feel as though my mouth shall be cleaned due to speaking such filth. He has gone too far, and for generations, your families and I have suffered, and why? Because of the rich – the heartless, selfish, greedy, avaricious wealthy. Their civilisation is built due to our work, yet we get treated in such a manner. This is an injustice! And this is why I choose to be your leader, to fight such persecution, and hopefully make us – the Dener Zu’aan Tribe – strong and thriving.”

Military

The armed forces around the Orm'kela Terraces that served the tyrannical monarch would have uniforms that were a camouflage material which would be beneficial for stealth and ideal for ambush attacks, which would also sometimes be waterproof if soldiers were a part of the naval forces. Additionally, there were also some troops who would have access to a set of metal armour which would protect them from attacks, although this was more common for those on the front lines. All troops would have access to a wide array of weaponry, ranging from sharp daggers, razor-sharp knives, vicious axes, powerful hammers, sharp swords, pointy spears, and much more.

Overall, the military was extremely strong and also skilled in tactics, knowing many beneficial techniques that enabled them to be a ruthless force. And it was through these forces that the impoverished members of society were held back and suppressed, for there were the conflicts which involved mass protesting and violent rioting. The poor people were known to fight against their oppression through attacking the homes of some wealthy individuals who tried to enslave them, as well as collecting these people up and then having them humiliated by the public.

This would normally consist of throwing various objects like shoes, rocks and even stool or other disgusting liquids alongside chanting that would be filled with profanities. In extreme cases, these rich people could be beaten so brutally that many even died, so the government tried to solve this issue by sending in the military. The result of this was the fact that many of the poorer members of society would face oppression despite being innocent and hence flee to the Orm'kela Terraces in hopes of finding safety. Yet, their feelings of animosity and desire for revenge were not quenched.

For they desired to unleash their rage upon those who dared to oppress and persecute them, and did so by forming a rebellion, with agents being deployed to commit espionage within the areas of the rich to gain intelligence so that an attack could be prepared. Soon, the day came when the newly formed Dener Zu’aan Tribe would get revenge and they made an attack on the king’s life as well as attempted to invade his palace, but were unsuccessful so fled again to the Orm'kela Terraces, hoping to try again in future and be successful.

To this day, these conflicts still continue with the Dener people being determined to demonstrate their strength and power and free the poor from their mistreatment but are now more organised and tactical. Working in secret, they manage to trade with merchants and gain access to weaponry and armour, although in some cases they would ambush travelling carts of the monarch and loot it for resources. They also have their own insignia with a fist clenching a few coins to show their origins and struggles with money but make sure to have this covered in order to avoid discovery.

Whilst a victory for them seems unlikely, the Dener people still have hope, and believe that they will one day be free.

Religion

Those who resided in the area near the Orm'kela Terraces were usually not pious, for many decided that there was nobody deserving of worship, although there were quite a few groups of wealthy individuals who saw the monarch as being a deity, blessing them with good fortune and prosperity. As a result of this, the ego of the king grew and very soon he saw himself as a divinity and believed that many should worship him due to this, so went out of his way to construct many temples and structures to portray him as a god-like figure.

However, this only caused lots of controversy since some members of society were worshippers of many deities such as Ulo the God of Wealth, Dhalo the God of Success, Atuna the Goddess of Riches, Ula the Treasure Goddess, and many more, who were said to be deities that were the reason why the rich had so much wealth. Since the wealthy people also had a sense of authority, the king was fearful of challenging this and imposing any restrictions, so decided that it was best to allow religious freedom to take place. Hence, there are plenty of religious sites that can be found, such as the huge, grand, lavish temples of the king decorated with golden, glowing articles.

And also made out of expensive materials and bricks with intricate, ornate designs, whilst flags and banners fly in the air with pride; there are also the slightly less extravagant places of worship for the deities of fortune, wealth and much more. As for the poorer members of society, they initially used to be faithless people due to their hopeless nature which depended on the belief that if a deity did exist then they would not allow the impoverished to face such suffering, especially if they were merciful and benevolent. Due to this, some of the poor members of society even became angered and radicalised.

With a desire to attack believers of the deities like Ulo the God of Wealth, Dhalo the God of Success, Atuna the Goddess of Riches, Ula the Treasure Goddess, and many more since they felt a sense of hatred and animosity, as well as feelings that if these divinities existed then why would they be so cruel and let such abuse and mistreatment occur. However, this all changed with the escape to the Orm'kela Terraces, where the people started to become worshippers of a deity called Rhydros, God of Rebellion; He was described as being a god who was actually the spirit of a rebel who had fought for the rights of the poor.

Only to be killed and then resurrected in a new godly form that could not be seen by zu’aan, but still had the ability to give power and strength to those He felt were worthy. Due to this, the Dener people have a sense of inspiration and choose to worship Rhydros, God of Rebellion through many forms such as by observing prayers and giving offerings, but the most common is to call upon him before battle and ask for victory.
