History

Oghay city is one of those cities that sits in the middle of the Rayran Sandy Mountains. It is a city that has always been bustling with life. A city that is bustling with life and people. Oghay has for the most part lived a peaceful existence. The people here follow a god that has taught them the values of peace and mediatorship. The climate is warm and the city doesn’t have a high altitude allowing them to grow crops and travel as and when they need to. Because of the location, the city has always been fairly safe from threats and as such, have not felt the effects that the war has brought on.

They have rarely come across any kin’toni as well. They are only aware of kin’toni from the stories that travelllers bring through the city and even then, it is rare for travelers to pass over the mountains when it’s far easier to go through the mountains at some of the passes further along the mountain range. It is for this reason that the kin’toni have never reached the city. Oghay is pretty oblivious to any threats that are below them. They are high enough to not need to fear and they have enough protection from their high walls built from the stone of the mountains that they are confident in their safety.

The town is very much centered around family as well as helping those in need. They are a welcoming place and the citizens that have left the city are well known across the empire for being good mediators and problem solvers. From an early age, young Oghay are taught about problem solving as well as maintaining peace and calm in any situation. They are self-sufficient mountain folk that will often sit together with their eyes closed and hum in honor of their god Olick. Many of the Oghay are trained in self defense but this type of self defense is specifically created to stop a fight and end the anger.

They are taught to shut down their attacker, ending a fight in its tracks. They believe in the quiet and peacefulness of nature and will often allow themselves moments of peace with nature where they will sit as a family and just be at peace. This city is also known as the quiet city because they have religious ceremonies where they will not talk or utter a single word for a set amount of time. Children, from a young age, learn to be quiet too. Family is very important to the city and they value time with their family the most. Since the religion of Olick has taken hold of the city, there is no crime or anger in the city.

It is a place of kindness and strict values of family. Those who do not follow the laws of the religion and of the city, are shunned. They are mourned as if dead and ignored as if they do not exist. They are expelled from the city and sent on their way.

Psychology

The city is a place where people often learn to get along, despite their differences. They do what they have to in order for the city to thrive as a whole. They pledge to be helpful and follow the rules of their religion. They are, as such, very happy and healthy individuals in the long run. During their time as children, they are educated in what they believe to be their skills. When a child is raised by the entire city as a whole. Then they are taught the most important skills of problem solving in a peaceful manner and encouraged to be helpful.

If they are extremely helpful, they are given gifts or treats to help encourage their peers to follow in the footsteps of the helpful individual. Children are closely monitored to see what their skills are and when they show a skill, they will be encouraged to follow that skill and they will be put with an adult that can educate them more thoroughly. The religion that is predominant in the city is based mainly on a god called Olick who was the main peace maker on earth and in the heavens. Temples of this god are strewn throughout the city and it’s encouraged to have altars in your house.

It’s important to follow the teachings of this god which are mainly to be a good and kind person that will be able to follow rules and get along with everyone surrounding them. The main law of this religion is to make peace and this god is very much against fighting so there is none of that present in the city. Instead they are more or less a peaceful and peace loving city, determined to do what they can in order to help each other. To be blessed by their god, they need to avoid anger all together and stay as calm as possible.

The citizens of the city are mainly happy and healthy individuals that have learned a long time ago to follow the rules. Those that do suffer with anger are banned from the city and are told not to return. They even put that individual through some scary amounts of emotional trauma. In the eyes of the citizens, they will die if they break the laws of their religion. This means that people will mourn for that individual and even act as if the trespasser has died. Sins are not tolerated in the city and those that commit a sin will be excommunicated in the worst way.

This is why most individuals will fear sinning and will go out of their way not to sin. They are shown from an early age what can happen if an individual were to sin. It is with these thoughts in mind that the city often carries forward their lives. Overall, because of these rules, the city is a warm and welcoming place centered around community and love. The city is a place where people will often come to live if they were trying to get away from the violence in their own city.

Culture

The culture is mainly centered around the family and taking care of the families is vital. They believe very much in looking after the future generations of their city. They take pride in raising a family and doing it with care and compassion. The people living in the city being very family orientated, learn quickly that family is the only way forward and as such they follow the rules of their religion. Children are brought up to be friendly and helpful. They are guided in the ways of the culture which mainly follow the lines of being polite and courteous.

The city is welcoming to strangers and travelers. In fact, when a traveler comes to town they will often celebrate the arrival with a big feast to welcome the traveler. They are very self standing as a city and share all their resources so that no one is lacking in anything. For the most part, the city is a happy place with a healthy outlook on life. Feasts are held once a month and the people celebrate many new things that come to their city. New travelers, new children and marriages. They believe in family values and as such it is important to celebrate those values, making sure that all the individuals are cared for, whether they are complete strangers or not.

During a feast, everyone will come together to bring something to the feast for others to share. It is vital that everyone works together to make their city something they can be proud of. During the celebrations, children are often recruited to hand out food and help where they can to serve the older adults. Children are raised by the whole city and are encouraged to be who and what they want to be. They are taught whatever they want to learn because the city believes it’s important to allow a child to grow and become their own person.

Among the many various festivals in the religion that are recognized, there is one that all citizens often look forward to all year and that is the day of gifting. Gifting day is a day where citizens give gifts to those they value most in their lives. They gather around the feast table and enjoy a feast that has been set forward by the entire city. Each citizen is encouraged to offer some food or help in creating the feast that everyone in the city will share during the gifting banquet. There are various dishes to choose from, including meats and dessert dishes.

Once everyone has had their fill, they offer gifts to one another. Naturally everyone works hard during the year to be given a gift because of their value. The citizens often go out of their way to be helpful members of society in the year ahead so that they might be given many gifts during the gifting day. It is generally a celebration of gratitude. The culture of the city is deeply rooted in their religion.

Government

The government is a strong, capable entity that has managed the city since its founding in the very early stages of life. Since the government is so capable, the city is very well managed allowing enough resources for everyone in need. The way the government works is quite fascinating. They are elected by others in the city that all vote in any new leaders that they deem worthy. Anyone can be selected for an open position in the city but positions are most often skill based for example, if the position of agriculture surfaces, then those who have the best skills of agriculture will be put up for the position.

A position will only open once the person who has commanded the position is for any reason incapable of carrying on with the position. That is when the most eligible candidates in the city are put forward for election. The government controls just about everything, from the military to food supply. The Government is very different from other governments and they tend to run the city like a well oiled machine. They will often listen to their citizen’s complaints and do their best to help fix those complaints. This allows the individual citizens to feel heard and respected.

If a citizens has a problem that cannot be rectified, they are encouraged to suggest solutions. If their solutions cannot be implemented, they are taught ways of managing the problem instead of offering for the government to help them deal with it. There is a firm believe in the government that any problem can be handled and corrected. Solutions are very often worked on and the council in the government will try their best to find solutions to various problems. Because all citizens are taught to find solutions to their problems that are peaceful and helpful to the rest of the community, finding solutions within the government often comes as second nature.

The event of offering problems to the council is called the trials. Trials are held every day at midday and can often carry on to the evening. Trials are important for the citizens as a whole. It draws them closer to their council and government and allows them to find possible solutions to problems they didn’t think they could overcome. It is often during these trials that someone who broke the law is named as a sinner and given the curse of death from the council. This is a very horrible punishment to endure for basically anyone. It is rare during the last couple of generations to be given this punishment since every single citizen tends to avoid it now.

It is a punishment that is often threatened to children that tend to misbehave in order to put the children back in line. It works remarkably well. Even the explanation of the curse of death is enough to scare just about anyone. Understanding that this is the one and only threat to any and all citizens, makes it that much easier to endure the rules that the government sets into place.

Military

The military is mainly controlled by the city. It is a very huge part of the city and contains those that have a drive towards defending the weak. The military skills include the ability to find peaceful solutions to problems, the desire to defend the weak as well as the ability to do so. The military are trained in combat and mainly fight with a staff and defensive behaviours. The military tends to have techniques that no other city has. Instead of the drive to kill, the city will often find a way to knock their opponent down and even knock them out.

They will not attempt to kill or cause bodily harm. It’s widely known that the military and their way of combat is the most peaceful in all of the empire. The fact that the city is very high up in the mountains, allows for the military to be pretty much unneeded as far as everything is concerned. The city has been mainly untouched during the cold war where every other city had to fight for their survival. During the time of the cold war, the city was oblivious to the many changes that the empire endured. They still are fairly naïve to the changes since they don’t get many travellers going up to the mountain range.

Despite that, the military of the city undergo in depth training to become as strong as they are. Children who express an aptitude for the military, often undergo years and years of dedicated training and exercise to become soldiers for the military. Generations and generations of citizens have never had to fight or defend the city but they are ready and capable should the need to do so befall them. Apart from the many years of training, they find comradery in the friendships they form alongside each other during their training. They become a family in their own right and enjoy the feeling of being close to their new brothers and sisters.

The military are trained in a mix of hand to hand combat and defence. They will go out of their way to make sure they keep the village safe. They are not trained to give their lives or to end their attacker’s lives. They are trained to do what they must to escape danger and stay alive. This military is the only military that will try and step away from danger. The fact that the city is so out of the way of danger makes it easy for the military to have peaceful values. High in the mountains, there are no threats. There is a different way of life here.

There’s a lot of reflection and praying to be done and that seems to be the only thing that the city does on a regular basis. The military is almost obsolete so far but the council knows that the military presence is important, just in case. The government will always make sure that the city is prepared in whatever they do and for whatever occurs.

Religion

Religion is very important to the Oghayans. It is vital to everything their city is based on. It has created their government, family structures and cultures. Religion has allowed the entire city to live a good and fruitful life. The city depends on their religion to help them survive the landscape they find their city in. Being at the top of the mountains is a lonesome existence and not many venture there with stories to break up the monotony of life. Instead they started following Olick because he teaches respect and calmness.

It is with this respect and calmness that people live their lives. They learn to find their inner peace and are taught from a young age to find their strength in nature. They are taught to work and find joy in their work since it is often to help their community which in turn sustains them and their families. Their religious beliefs are at the root of their day to day lives. They celebrate many festivals based mainly around family and family life. They will celebrate a birth, a death and a marriage with many family and friends helping and chipping in to make the festival a memorable one.

The most endearing festival they celebrate is the giving day which is celebrated once a year to thank those that have been an integral part of any family’s life. Friends and family will often go out of their way to help and aid one another in order to get gifted with gifts during giving day. It’s a day where everyone chips in to show gratitude in a large festival. Everyone is expected to bring something to share for the entire family. Unlike other celebrations, this one is vital to attend. Those that do not attend are frowned upon.

Sin is something that is punishable by a thing the city calls ‘the curse of death’. The citizens are in fear of this as it means that they are rejected from their community. Religion keeps the city in check and allows them to follow a certain order of the world. They listen to the devout followers of Olick when they preach about justice and peace. They pray and hum every day to please Olick. They go through days and days where they will be silent as a mouse, ceasing communication entirely to pay tribute to their god. They believe that only when Olick is pleased, will he allow them to enjoy their lives as they intended to.

They live a pious existence and will often follow their god’s leadership in all things. To take Olick away from the city is to take away their identity. Olick is so ingrained into their lives that it would be impossible to separate them now. Olick is a huge part of how the city operates and there are few other cities as devoted to their gods as the people of Oghay are to Olick. The people of Oghay believe that their god can fix everything if they just believe hard enough.
