Geography

The geography of the Xarla Shattered Glacier can be separated into two sections. The truth is, the chosen place for the hidden facility to be built was shattered from the rest of the land during the time the facility was kept in the dark by the rest of the world. But, given the Xildquetor Kin'toni Clan assets, they were able to cross this ravine of cold waters to finally arrive at the urban part. The facility was composed of three parts, the first used by the workers as housing, connected with their labs, and the last part used to imprison the kin'toni resulting from their experiments. After the facility outbreak, the clan turned the labs into housing areas as well.

The urban areas of the Xarla Shattered Glacier can be nowadays organised by kin'toni clans and zu'aan tribes. Most of these places used to be small cities and villages of only zu'aan, but as the outbreak burst into the outside world, the villages near airports and ports were the first ones to be infected, while the places farther away were able to keep themselves safe. These places who kept with zu'aan tribes did not expect to find the Xildquetor Kin'toni Clan, as their only fear was the other kin'toni clans. For their luck, the Xildquetor were too tired and confused to be able to strike a successful attack in these zu'aan cities.

Later on, the clan understood what had happened to the world around them. They gathered themselves under the rule of their leader and built a city for them, similar to the ones found in the rural area, but back in the forgotten lands. They were not able to find their facility again in the midst of the glacier, and they actually did not want to, as their plan was to build a facility and grow stronger to be able to take these zu'aan tribes and other kin'toni clans. Nowadays the Xildquetor Kin'toni Clan is the only kin'toni clan ruling the land, as they decided to leave some zu'aan tribes by themselves, so they could simply attack later for the need of food.

Their city is simple, with housing made out of scraps from kin'toni villages they attacked and resources they were able to find in the tundras of the glaciers. Their city includes a complex underground system, commonly used during harsh snowstorms.

Plants

The plants in the Xarla Shattered Glacier are commonly found in the urban area, although many of these flora tends to die during winter, they always come back when the harsh weather is gone. Normally used by both zu'aan tribes and kin'toni clan as a source of material is the eliam tree, a huge pine tree that grows tall and does not die during winter. this tree produces a very strong wood and it can be found almost everywhere in the biome. During spring the tree does produce a heavy amount of fruits, called egare. This fruit tends to be harvested by zu'aan tribes and kept inside clay pots filled with some sort of oil.

These conserved fruits are known to last years and are very present in zu'aan diets during winter. Another tree found in the glacier is the shorter aralif tree, it does not produce fruit, but it is sometimes used for its wood. The bark of the tree can be collected by zu'aan tribes. They keep the bark to boil in saltwater with the aedroy plant, the resulting drink tends to be drank warm and works as a generous source of nutrients for the tribes. The aedroy plant is a thick bush with big leaves, commonly produced during the hotter months of the year.

These bushes can be easily found in the glaciers and attract several wildlife creatures. It is common for zu'aan tribes to use the leaves as bait for animals. Iticet is a vegetable normally planted by the zu'aan tribes. This vegetable is, in fact, native to the region, and adapts very well to the harsh weather. It grows underground, with thick leaves poping outside, that can also be eaten by zu'aan tribes. The vegetable has a hard texture with dark brown colouring, it normally is boiled to a soft consistency and mashed into a puree, commonly eaten hot.

But there are some recipes where the zu'aan will freeze chunks of this puree and eat it frozen wrapped around the leaves of the plant. Another vegetable found in the region and planted by zu'aan tribes is the eupec, known to grow atop the ground on trusses, this vegetable is smaller but tends to produce a lot in the same crop. The vegetable tends to be kept in iceboxes built by the zu'aan. These iceboxes are slabs of cut ice glued together with water and buried under the snow. This way the vegetable can last for years. After being frozen, the vegetable has a bland taste and can be boiled into a soft consistency.

Even with a bland taste, it works perfectly as a nutritious meal. The last type of plant to be commonly used by zu'aan is the crapla. This plant grows like long blades of grass on the outside the ground, while growing as a vegetable that can be boiled and eaten underground. The blades are commonly used to produce fibre for the tribes, turning into clothing and blankets. These clothes are actually a great defence against the wind. It is common to find every door of a zu'aan house covered with this natural fibre.

Animals

For the Xildquetor Kin'toni Clan, the wildlife commonly found in the frozen biome is not something that calls their attention. Sometimes they do tend to feed on animals, but their preferred food is zu'aan tribes. Commonly found in the area are creatures like the fanson, a big aquatic creature commonly catch by the zu'aan tribes with boats. They tend to fish this animal to eat the meat, but they also have developed a way to harvest the creature's oil and turn it into burning oil. Many of the zu'aan tribes around tend to keep lanterns with fire feed by the fanson's oil.

Other aquatic creature used by the zu'aan tribes is the tessea, while they can also use the tessea oil for lightening, the animal is more commonly used for its meat and pelts, as the thick skin of the animal propitiates a great pelt. Once the pelt is clean, the tribe tend to use it on the ceiling of their housing, this keeps the warmth of their houses in during hard snowstorms. A type of fish commonly caught by the zu'aan tribes and very important in the life of the tribes in the Xarla Shattered Glacier is the bowori, besides being a very nutritious fish, the bowori eggs can be used in medicine.

As the creature tends to lay eggs around the shores of the glacier, the tribes tend to harvest said eggs, which can be smashed with saltwater and used to cure wounds and sickness. They also do consume the boweri meat. A mammal four-footed creature found in the Xarla Shattered Glacier is the welboro, this creature, normally weighing around 200kg, is mostly caught by zu'aan tribes for its fur, which can be turned into clothing and protection for their houses. The creature can also be eaten, but the sour taste of its meat tends to be avoided by the zu'aan. This creature is one of few animals used by the kin'toni for its blood when they lack zu'aan blood.

The numbord is another mammal found in the glacier, a hoofed four-footed creature, weighting around 500kg, it tends to be avoided by the zu'aan tribes and kin'toni clan for its violent acts. Normally the numbord does not approach the more urban area of the glacier, it is believed a huge flock of the creature was trapped, in a similar way to the Xildquetor Kin'toni Clan was, by the frozen ravine. Leaving behind only a few of these creatures, who are decreasing in the amount over the years. Another animal found in the Xarla Shattered Glacier is the gugiss, this creature was actually domesticated years ago by the zu'aan tribes.

The mammal has heavy fur that helps them survive the freezing conditions. It is a costume between the zu'aan tribes to build their houses in a way that is possible to fit the gugiss enclosures under their houses, this way the animal is kept safe from snowstorms and their body heat is transferred to the house, helping the zu'aan to keep their families warm and alive in the harsher times. This creature produces heavy fur that grows fast when cut, the animal also produces milk commonly drank and used in cooking by zu'aan tribes.
